2121 Ala Wai 2406- Unit Has Been Updated And Is Beautful! True Value!!!
The building is a 42 story high-rise with 211 apartments total. The project was completed in 1977. This unit is a two bedroom/one bath. Each unit has its own parking space. Amenities include swimming pool, sauna, BBQ grill and recreation room.
The unit was updated in June of 2011. Furniture was reupholstered, apartment was painted, new carpets insttalled, bedding and linens replaced, along with a new washer/dryer in the apartment. This property is not a glamorous apartment, however, it is tropical,has a great location, with great views! A - 2 bedroom 1 bath unit with a full kitchen, in the heart of Waikiki with free parking, washer/dryer in the unit, free phone and wifi, all for under $200/ per night, TRUE VALUE! 2121 Ala Wai is also a very nice building that has a great reputation. It is more of a condo style though vs a hotel so if you are looking for a "resort" style property, this is not for you. Great for people looking to save money on accommodations while having the simple conveniences of a home instead of a hotel room. Beautiful views! Just a side note: The parking stall is not very large so please keep this in mind when renting your car and the size you choose!

Stayed for 5 days in June, 2015 There were no screens for any of the windows and the windows were the glass shutter type and even if you close them all the way the bugs would come in. We had dozens of cockroaches as a result. It was hot and humid and I had trouble sleeping at night due to no ac. The vent in the bathroomHad years of gunk caked on it....if I had a screw driver I would have taken it off and cleaned it myself. Disgusting! Our parking stall was on the very end and we had an suv and it made it take over five minutes to park each time as a result as we had to have everyone get out before I could park. At night the traffic from the street below is so loud it's hard to sleep. You try to close the windows to have some quite and it heats up. Catch 22.

Few mins walk and you're right on the main shopping strip and Waikiki beach. So much to see and do around this location. Wifi and parking were so essential. Parking was tight. BBQ near pool was out of order. The huggy balcony had wide open view of the canal and mountains. Diamond head is visible on the right. Kitchen had every utensil you needed! All the appliances worked well. Shower doors are stiff, carpets in bedrooms need replacing and area rug in living room should be thrown out. Curtains are very dusty. Shabby but very functional and great location.

The bedrooms were a bit smaller than what they appear in the photos, but worked for us. The location was excellent for our needs and having the kitchen was a definite money saver. Sleeping at night can be challenging due to the number of sirens, trucks backing up, and trash trucks making rounds, but his is nothing that can be controlled. There are either termite or roach droppings falling out of the bathroom door on a daily basis. None of the remote controls for the television worked, thank goodness for phone apps. We had to call the management company to find out how to access the wi-fi. This information should be relayed to visitors either in an email or by leaving a note. Other than those items, the condo worked well for our stay.

A little out dated and a lot of maintenance needs to be done. the price was ok but in this case you get what you pay for. The people that I conversed with during the check in process were very helpful and nice. I was in edge the entire time there because as soon as we checked in there was a huge roach in bathroom. I HATE roaches. But that was the only bug we saw when we checked in. Having the washer and dryer was a plus. Overall it was an ok experience all because of the friendly staff.

There were very limited supplies, the dishwasher wasn't hooked up and we couldn't get internet access as they never gave us a password or returned our calls. It was billed as a newly updated unit but I had to fix the toilet from continuously running and the caulking looked like it hadn't been replaced in years as it had slight mold. Since there is no A/C you have to leave the windows open which means you hear loud street traffic throughout the night. Overall, we were quite dissatisfied with this location and quality of the unit.

The lanai has weird fake carpeting like a miniature golf course and a throw rug, which soaked in lots of water when it rained. Other than that, it was a good condo, nice pool and good central location to everything around Waikiki.

The tenant should get full details of the property in question. The curtains up to the back slide glass were not attached correctly. There was no central heat and air system. It was very hot and uncomfortable for me and everyone in my party. Neither was it kid friendly. I feel as though some of the details was left out when making reservations. I listed our reservation that three children would be in my party, if I would have known that the bedrooms was on the walkway and we had to tip toe in order to walk, this place would never have been considered. I would be reluctant to recommend this place to family and friends. In my opinion I didn't get what I paid for. Other than that it was clean and conveniently located near restaurants and beaches.

Halfway through my stay ay 805 am we received a visit from managent with a new refrigerator and dishwasher. They didn't hook up dishwasher. I had to hand wash all dishes from that point. Updating unit should not have been on my time. That point was not understood by managent. Unit needs all new linens, very dated. On the 24th floor the unit is very very windy. No ac. Shower is gross. One door won't slide at all due to all the nasty in the track. Lots of ants in kitchen. New cleaning service necessary.

However it was nice to have the kitchen so we didn't always have to eat outside, although it could be easier to prepare food if there was a chef's knife.

Stayed for 13 days in January, 2014 As international visitors we would have found a few things useful in the apartment - an instruction manual about the apartment - how to connect to WiFi (didn't work the whole duration of our holiday - we could connect anywhere else), the phone number of the unit, emergency exit plan, how to dispose of our garbage, how to contact the building manager/security guard, a TV guide and some tourist information including a street map of Waikiki. Just a few things we would have found useful. The bed linen could do with an update. The curtains in the living area were falling off the track. A clock/radio in the bedroom would have been a nice addition. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the apartment was neat and tidy but a few small additions would enhance the vacation.

Very convenient to the beach and restaurants and market. Beds were decent and linens and towels were provided. Refrigerator and stove in working order. The in unit washer/dryer was great but a bit noisy. Parking spot is narrow and parking made more difficult by being against the wall. WIFI was not working and still was not resolved by the office before we left.

Stayed for 5 days in December, 2013 The unit is NOT newly renovated and clearly falsely advertised: the carpets are old, the bedding and lines are old, worn out and dirty, and the mattresses are worn out, dirty and old. The unit was not newly painted and the furniture is outdated and for sure not reupholstered, the kitchen only received new counters to make it look good, but the rest of the kitchen is super old... everything was dirty and disgusting.. But the worst thing is: The Unit has a huge COKROACH INFESTATION... we found live cockroaches in the dishwasher (yikes) and about a dozen more in about one day.. there were cockroacheggs all over the place (above washer and dryer, in the hall way ceiling) and management refused to remove those...I would NOT recommend this unit to anyone and the property owner needs to change property management ASAP.. they never respond to calls and treat guest very poorly. Their only explanation that it is the tropics and things happen, won?t just fly? I get the occasional bug here and there, but this is far from one or two bugs because it is the tropcis? and on top the obvious false advertisement sounds more like a rip off? I would give the unit a 0 star if possible... we made pictures of everything and will file a complaint to get a refund? We will 100% not rent this unit again or from this property management.

If you want a budget place that you won't spend much time in this is decent. Beds comfortable. Beautiful sunrise view. Kitchen is adequate. It has termites in the bathroom and front door - but hey it is the tropics and that happens. Loud siren noise at night. If you are a New Yorker it will sound like home. Has a mould issue. For the money it is passable. The management company was very helpful and that was a blessing. I would book with them again BUT not this unit I'd rather pay more for better quality. But that's me.

There is no way to enter to check in without any assistance. Other than the check-in process, everything else was wonderful.

If we would have been better prepared for some of things that we were going to be faced with that may have helped. Firstly, the parking. We rented a van and couldn't get into the parking spot that was reserved for us. There is NO WHERE to park. That was frustrating. We called the property management company and they never called us back. We also as of yet haven't been reimbursed for our cleaning fee. We paid a fee and were told that it would be reimbursed if the condo was clean. We made sure it was clean and still haven't gotten a refund. The dishwasher did not work. We had bugs. Where to dispose of our garbage wasn't clear. The stay wasn't horrible but it definitely wasn't what we expected. I would not stay there again.

Stayed for 4 days in May, 2013 We were a group of 5 adults and looking for value and a 2 bedroom rental of this price point suited our group (better than 2 hotel rooms). Although the beds were a bit soft four the group, the couch was super comfy for the 5th person. It had basic amenities and included a parking spot. There were no instructions/passwords on how to access the wifi but we were able to piggy back off of an open wifi. For those on a budget, this place was just fine. Great breeze in the apartment and has a washer/dryer and balcony overlooking ala wai. The company was easy to deal with while booking, however I do not think I received specific instructions about how to access apartment but had to call the day before to get instructions/directions to access the building/lockbox/parking, etc. I also believe I left something at the apartment and called the number to ask if I can retrieve but but have never heard back from them. But overall we enjoyed our stay and the convenience and price and included parking.

The location was great as we could walk down to the beach easily, and its really easy to get in and out of with a car. the fact that the parking spot is included was a BIG bonus.if you are looking for a high end or fancy condo - this is not for you. It's a basic condo with all the things you need for a week or two on vacation. To a previous reviewer, yes, it was a bit windy on the 24th floor and the windows made some noise, but so what? we opened them a bit and the noise stopped and we had a great breeze in the condo - loved it!NOTE: I would likely not stay here with a spouse/partner as the bed was not what I would consider ideal for two people, and the condo is not set up to be romantic or fussy. But having said that, if you are on a budget and both of you are average size (for the bed) - go for it!This condo was a great value and I would definitly stay here again.

The condition of the actual apartment was outdated, old and needs updating. I was not happy with the fact no information was given to me prior to arriving from the property management so I had to struggle once I got there to find how to get into the room. Never was provided information for the internet in the room or about the gift package left on the table (no papers saying there was a charge for it or not so we left it alone). Overall satisfied but don't expect luxury.

Stayed for 6 days in January, 2013 From the get go, I was a little weary after reading some not-so-positive reviews but I think people are expecting too much from a rare $170/nt 2 bedroom unit right in Waikiki.Hawaii Paradise Retreats' email response has been hit and miss. Some emails got answered right away, some took 2-3 emails, and some were just completely ignored. Worst of all, I had 2 pack and plays reserved, and reassured they'd be ready at the apartment upon our arrival. However, they were not. To their credit, they had a staff member personally deliver them, but I had to wait 30 minutes with 3 cranky kids waiting in the car.The apartment itself was generally clean, the linens were severely outdated, and the beds were creaky but comfortable.Light sleepers might have trouble getting over the noise as the lack of A/C means you have to leave the windows open. For us, not a problem (plus the breeze was especially nice) but I swear every 30 mins to an hour past midnight, a police car with sirens a blazin' is screaming down Ala Wai Blvd and it gets LOUD. Also there are no bug screens but being on the 24th floor, it was never a problem (plus in Waikiki you'll see way more pesky pigeons than bugs).Some highlights are the very thoughtfully equipped kitchen (with extras like a rice cooker, blender, etc..) and the local cable TV is amazing with it's myriad of channels.All in all, I would definitely come back. My family agrees this place actually looks BETTER than the pictures (very rare LOL). The key is.. Consider the price you're paying and keep your expectations, and this place will exceed it all.

Had to fix toilet myself. Biggest issue is the complete lack of communication from the managing landlords. We had to follow up SO many times to even confirm our booking, then when promised that we have got the booking back in April for our September stay - we made contact again in early August, only to be told they don't have our reservation. Then they find it but don't tell us, then they take out our deposit but don't confirm that in writing. Then we get there and are told to call a number - from where? We've just arrived late at night, there are pay phones but we don't get given coins when we swap money over. Thankfully Roberts Hawaii have fantastic transport staff who helped us out. Free wi-fi was great, but had to figure out myself how to join since their instructions were completely inaccurate. Hired a car, no confirmation given that there is an available car space. We did have to fix the landline phone up (not connected) and thankfully we were given the number as they were helpful once we were there - but it took multiple phone calls over the week. I love Hawaii, but not sure if I'd come back to this place, despite it being one of the few two bedroom places available.

I was told that location is ALWAYS very windy, and to our dismay, the horizontal slat windows in living room and bedrooms do not properly seal when shut tight and the wind was literally howling and whistling through the condo all day and night for most of our time there. Another resident of the building said all the condos there have the same problem. so we struggled with strategizing how to stop the howling, by stuffing the curtain into the corner, and opening the kitchen windows.The place was nicely remodeled (with remodling materials still in cupboards), although crack in tile under sink, and old shower doors. a Mini laundry washer-dryer unit worked, but had a loud squeak in the dryer. But after we got used to the noise of the wind, and the wind did calm somewhat, then it was a pleasant place to stay. The waist-high wall on the outdoor corridor was a bit freaky at 24 floors up. but looks like most of the buildings I could see had similar. We are not used to such unprotected heights, but that is city living.We had just come from quiet, low-key, rainy Hilo/Big Island, so it was quite a contrast to come to noisy, Manhattan-density Waikiki. Since it was rather far from the beach, it was a nicer view over the quiet canal , every evening the local outrigger canoe teams did their practices there, and many people jogged and walked along the path. It is easy walking distance to teh main waikiki beaches, though, and many (often high priced) food stores. The unit did have everything we needed to cook with so that was nice, and plenty of TV and wifi, So that's what my family enjoyed the most. Also an easy drive to the rest of the island (after 5-10 minutes of heavy inner-city Waikiki traffic.Unit does have a nice BBQ patio(but VERY windy) and pool area (not windy) on 6th floor.

It is a security building that is clean and well maintained. The condo was breezy which kept it nice and cool. It was clean and had just been updated! We had a wonderful time and the management was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend!

This unit was in disrepair with thick layers of dust and dirt on most surfaces. There were several louvered windows that had controls that were broken, several lamps that were missing light bulbs, the fans supplied and other appliances (toaster, washer & dryer, etc.) were rusted and not functioning at all or well, the smoke detector alarm went off and would not stop until we removed the battery, and all the drapes were torn, missing hooks and dirty. We called the agent when we arrived and was told "I haven't seen the unit." We even went out and bought a new shower head and installed it because the one there was unusable, and then took it with us when we left. We were so happy when our week was over so we could get out of there. We stayed at three other places in Waikiki and of those we can recommend Captain Cook Resorts and the Ala Moana Hotel Condos, but don't stay here. Aloha!
