Owned by a local architect, the apartment was fully renovated in 2013/14 and designed to mix traditional Texas materials with a contemporary twist. The apartment is adjacent to a 1915 farmhouse with great bones and a wonderful history.
The farmhouse was built in a Texas vernacular style and pre-dates the Bungalows seen throughout Hyde Park. Beautiful, long-leaf pine salvaged from the house was repurposed in the apartment to provide warmth and contrast the white, contemporary interior. The exterior siding is a board-n-batten technique, reminiscent of traditional outbuildings in the neighborhood.
Following the Petmecky family's sale in the mid-1960s, the property was a rental its purchase by the current owner in 2009. The complete renovation of the apartment is the next step in the property?s history, as the owner / architect works to restore the main house and landmark the property. Rental income from the unit feeds directly into this work.

Adena B. from San Marcos, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2017 Property was clean, efficient, private and had every basic need for a comfortable stay. The mobile app had all the information for check in, check out and easy to use. We had a car so it was easy to get to downtown and other areas of Austin but would have been challenging without one. This studio fit our needs perfectly and well worth the reasonable cost.
John H. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2017 I reserved the Hyde Park Studio for nights I had to be in Austin to sit for the Texas bar exam. This studio was absolutely perfect and completely supportive of my needs and reason for being in Austin. You can see the place is clean and pleasing; it was also quiet, easily accessible (both from my car parking and from the freeway), comfortable, and had excellent WiFi coverage and speed. I wanted for nothing with this property and would look to it first for any future trips to Austin. Aside from zero complaints, I can't think of one way this experience could have been improved.
Bill W. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 30 days in January, 2017 The space was everything I could have asked for. It was clean, efficient and fully functional. The neighborhood is great with interesting places to visit well within walking distance.
Brooke H. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2016 Quiet, perfect location, super comfy bed, cute deck, great little spot. Highly recommend to anyone needing a private little getaway. Enjoyed the coffee they provided. Would stay again!
A guest from Pembroke Pines, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2016 We came into town as first timers to Austin for the F1. The rental was clean and basic for our needs. The bed was SO comfortable and the sheets were so soft. In fact, I'd like to know where they came from so I can get some. The rental had everything. In the kitchen, there was a fridge, glassware and flatware, a microwave, and hotplate. The bathroom had nice big towels, soap and shampoo, and sunscreen. The futon was comfortable for the 3rd person in our group. It was easy to check-in with the app.The location for this rental was great. Just a short ride to downtown and other areas of interest. The neighborhood is quaint and quiet, but has a lot of character.
Jessica B. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2016 Great place, great location. Close to downtown and to the airport. Would not recommend 4 people staying there but other than that, it was great: clean and up to date. Totally recommend for 3 or less to rent.
Emilie H. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2016 Awesome property! It's just what you need for a short stay in Austin. The one thing I will say is that it's located along a short stone path that leads behind a main house that can be difficult to find when it's dark, so make sure to settle in and get your bearings during the day time. It was super confusing to get in late and try to find the right path in the dark. Other than that, a great experience!
pamela l. from wichita, KS recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2016 I made a visit to Austin to see my daughter. Initially, scheduled for my husband and I to visit. He bailed at the last minute. This place was quiet, offered a clean roomy environment. Mini fridge, coffee, tea, hotplate, dishes, utensils, sheets, towels, sun deck, and even a friendly neighborhood cat dropped by to inquire....All the creature comforts of Home with IKEA storage, modern colors and very affordable. I'd do it again all over. Hope I can get this place on my next visit.
A guest from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2016 My mom stayed here for 3 nights. I live a block away so it was perfect! I briefly met the owner and she was very nice. The place itself is airy, clean and adorable. Very basic, but has everything you need.
Jessica T. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2016 My rental experience was great! The place was described accurately online, so there weren't any surprises when I arrived. The place was extremely clean. It really did feel like my home away from home during my stay in Austin. Thank you!
Abraham B. from Fort Collins, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in January, 2016 Everything was completely in order for the rental on Depew. The place was clean, spacious despite the one room, and very comfortable. We were close to downtown and bus stops which was great for us. I loved coming home to our own place after a long day of exploring.
Burch F. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in May, 2015 Modern, clean and close to good stuff. You can't beat this place for the price and Brooke was always helpful and responsive. Two thumbs up!
A guest from Victoria, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in April, 2015 We had a great stay at the studio. It's a beautiful space that was so relaxing to return to at the end of the day. It's a bit of a bus ride from downtown (30min, and buses come every 20-30min), but it's just one bus or an inexpensive taxi ride. And there's a couple of fun places to explore within a 15-20min walk (43rd St at Duval, and Ave F @ 53rd/North Loop - really liked Epoch Coffee!). And loved Austin, what a great city :) We had a bit of trouble figuring out what house it was when we first arrived as it was late and there aren't many streetlights, but it's a friendly, safe neighbourhood and we eventually figured it out!
A guest from Ken, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 20 days in September, 2014 The room was top notch. It has everything my wife and i needed. We were able to make ourselves food, yet it was close to everything. The bed was comfortable, plenty of towels, dishes and space. Highly recommend it!
Julia M. from Ken, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in August, 2014 My husband and I rented this beautiful back-house for a month in between moving and moving into a house. We loved our time here! It soon became home for us! The space is set up efficiently and effectively and we are so glad to have found it. It suited our needs completely. We loved the location, convenient for just about everything! It was such a great experience the whole time; whether interacting with the property manager or the property owner we had professional yet warm and friendly encounters each time. Loved our time here! Would definitely recommend!!
