The apartment has a private entry from a large outdoor deck dedicated to the unit. The deck provides outdoor seating and eating areas.

Near the intersection of Red River and 45th Streets, the property is located in a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood within a 15-minute walk to two neighborhood centers with local restaurants and shops.
At 43rd Street and Duval Avenue, Mother's Café (vegetarian), Julio?s (Mexican), Original Hyde Park Grill (home cooking), Juice Land (raw foods), Quacks & Dolce Vita (coffee, drinks, pastries, etc.), Antonelli (cheese shop), grocery store, and Asti (Italian). At 53rd Street and Avenue G, you?ll find several vintage stores along with Drink.well (neighborhood bar), Foreign and Domestic (American cuisine), and Phara?s (Mediterreanean).
4 city bus routes are within a 5-minute walk. The #10 Red River goes the heart of downtown along Congress Avenue, traveling from the Capitol, over Townlake, and to SoCo. The #338 Lamar / 45th takes riders downtown along Lamar Avenue, going by Pease Park, the Whole Foods Headquarters, Townlake / Auditorium Shores, and ACL. The #350 Airport Boulevard provides convenient access to Austin?s Airport. The Red River Shuttle travels directly to the University of Texas. All buses have bike racks.
For your car, there is plenty of free parking on the street. Hyde Park is served by Austin's own car-sharing business Car-2-Go, and short-term use cards are available on their website .
Owned by a local architect, the apartment was fully renovated in 2013/14 and designed to mix traditional Texas materials with a contemporary twist. The apartment is adjacent to a 1915 farmhouse with great bones and a wonderful history.
The farmhouse was built in a Texas vernacular style and pre-dates the Bungalows seen throughout Hyde Park. Beautiful, long-leaf pine salvaged from the house was repurposed in the apartment to provide warmth and contrast the white, contemporary interior. The exterior siding is a board-n-batten technique, reminiscent of traditional outbuildings in the neighborhood.
Following the Petmecky family's sale in the mid-1960s, the property was a rental its purchase by the current owner in 2009. The complete renovation of the apartment is the next step in the property?s history, as the owner / architect works to restore the main house and landmark the property. Rental income from the unit feeds directly into this work.

The bed was SO comfortable and the sheets were so soft. In fact, I'd like to know where they came from so I can get some. The rental had everything. In the kitchen, there was a fridge, glassware and flatware, a microwave, and hotplate. The bathroom had nice big towels, soap and shampoo, and sunscreen. The futon was comfortable for the 3rd person in our group. It was easy to check-in with the app.The location for this rental was great. Just a short ride to downtown and other areas of interest. The neighborhood is quaint and quiet, but has a lot of character.

The one thing I will say is that it's located along a short stone path that leads behind a main house that can be difficult to find when it's dark, so make sure to settle in and get your bearings during the day time. It was super confusing to get in late and try to find the right path in the dark. Other than that, a great experience!

It's a bit of a bus ride from downtown (30min, and buses come every 20-30min), but it's just one bus or an inexpensive taxi ride. And there's a couple of fun places to explore within a 15-20min walk (43rd St at Duval, and Ave F @ 53rd/North Loop - really liked Epoch Coffee!). And loved Austin, what a great city :) We had a bit of trouble figuring out what house it was when we first arrived as it was late and there aren't many streetlights, but it's a friendly, safe neighbourhood and we eventually figured it out!
