Our lovely, and ancient, Provençal mas is set in 8 acres of gorgeous gardens and meadows below mediaeval Lussan, one of the ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’ . Its tranquility will charm you from the moment you step inside its spectacular Roman-style inner courtyard.
With a rare 5 star award from the French Tourist Authority, a Best Rental 2012 award from Trip Advisor and rated 25 in all France by Gites-de-France.info, our guests are assured the warmest of welcomes, superb accommodation and unobtrusive hospitality to ensure a memorable vacation or perfect honeymoon.
We are only 15 minutes from mediaeval Uzès with its famous foodie markets, close to Avignon, Nîmes, the Pont du Gard, the Camargue and beaches of the Mediterranean, in the foothills of the mountains of the Ardèche and Cévennes. Surrounded by the olive trees, sunflowers, poppies and lavender of Provence, and in the midst of totally unspoiled wilderness, this is the perfect place to stay while discovering all that this region of southern France has to offer.
For outdoor enthusiasts there are endless opportunities to hike, bike, canoe, swim or canyon. For culture vultures there are Roman antiquities galore, charming Provençal villages, antiques markets and potteries, galleries and museums.
Here you can experience life at a slower pace. After a day out even the most energetic will welcome to peace of our gorgeous gardens and enjoy a dip in our walled pool. Sit back by the pond, enjoy the wildlife, admire the views, sample the local wines and contemplate your evening barbecue. We guarantee you will enjoy it!
The gardens are a delight for the senses – walkways covered with wisteria, roses and clematis; a walled pool garden full of Mediterranean and exotic sub-tropical plants; an ornamental pond, alive with colourful koi carp; banks of lavender, rosemary, cistus and oleander
An informal and fun supper à la Provençal once a week gives you a chance to meet other guests and learn more about the area.
Our three spacious gîtes sleep from 2-6 people. Awarded 5 stars by the French Tourist Authority, you will want for nothing. Beds, pillows and linen are the best, and kitchens are equipped to meet every cook’s requirements. It is our aim to make our guests feel at home and relaxed so they can’t wait to come back again.
Maximum capacity of all our accommodation is limited to 10, but 6 or 8 is more usual, which means the pool and grounds are never crowded. Our gîtes booked together make excellent accommodation for 2 or 3 families holidaying together.
Each gîte has its own private terrace or garden where you can take enjoy a leisurely breakfast or sip something cool on a summer’s evening. Guests can enjoy our heated pool from March to October.
You will find a “welcome” basket of essentials in your gîte when you arrive. Guests arriving late can request a light supper to await their arrival for a small additional charge.
LA BERGERIE (sleeps 2 + 2 children on sofa bed. Accessible, no steps)
Converted from the sheep barn, this very bright and spacious apartment has typical Provençal vaulting throughout. Furnished with style, it offers luxurious living and has been designed so that people with limited mobility can enjoy a high standard of accommodation so often denied them. We are proud to be able to extend our hospitality to guests of all abilities.
Specially-designed pathways from car park to apartment make it completely accessible for wheelchairs, with wide doorways, a large walk-in shower, discreet grab rails in the bathroom and plenty of space to move around.
• private fenced garden with outside dining and lounging facilities • huge and spacious sitting/dining room with separate kitchen area – fully fitted with built-in oven, hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, breakfast bar • sunny bedroom facing south over the pool garden with queen size bed, wardrobes and built-in cupboards. Ensuite bathroom with bath, walk-in shower.
EATING There are a couple of reasonable restaurants and cafes in the village – a 5 minute walk, masses more within a few minutes in the car. We bake bread and pastries every morning – guests can order before they go to bed. Our small ‘shop’ stocks home made preserves, a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks and a few essentials along with home cooked frozen meals for those nights when you just can’t face cooking. We are embarking on a project to restore the old potager and hope soon to supply guests with out homegrown, organic vegetables.
Our hens are fed only organic food and are at liberty to wander where they like, eating wild herbs from the meadow and keeping us free of garden pests. Their eggs are amazing!
We provide dressing gowns and sheets made from organic cotton; hand-made toiletries from a small “atelier” in the next village; wherever possible we use produce from our own gardens, or local produce from local suppliers. Bikes for all ages encourage guests to leave the car behind while exploring the richness of this area.
FAMILIES The mas is perfect for families, children of all ages are welcome and we provide cots and all baby and child equipment. Toys, children’s books and games are available, the pool is safely enclosed and there is a playpen to keep small ones safe. Older children will love playing with our two friendly dogs and children of all ages are welcome to collect eggs and assist with our flock of rare breed chickens.
