Peace, quiet and a marked hiking trail to the Sods...life is good!
I turned to Mr. Webster again. He tells me that a retreat is ?a place of refuge, seclusion or privacy?. There you have it. Welcome to Treetop one of Timberline?s best kept secrets. Nestled on 14 quiet, wooded acres this lovely property includes a pond, a stream and a marked hiking trail all the way to Dolly Sods. The main level of the house provides open space for meal preparation and or out. Teens and tweens will love the downstairs family room with plenty of room to ?chill? and foosball too! Bedrooms on all three levels are sure to please early risers and night owls. While wrapped in privacy you can still enjoy the comforts of home, and possibly more. Satellite TV, WIFI, wood burning fireplace, and outdoor hot tub are all included. Winter visitors must have 4-wheel drive for access.

Great option for Dolly Sods Hikers
Karl L. from Canonsburg, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2016 Love the blazed trail to the north side of Dolly Sods. House layout was great for our 4 kids. When we stayed the furnace filter was very dirty and everyone suffered till it was replace early in our stay. Make sure if you have an issue that you call the rental contact ASAP. Most issues can be resolved quickly, just as this issue was. After the filter was changed the situation improved in less than 30 mins. My only real complaint was the dishwasher. The kitchen is very old but functional. The dishwasher is an old design and even after we ran it with soap but without any dishes mold persisted inside the dishwasher. We ended up washing everything by hand while we were in the house. Not the end of the world but it would not be hard to get a modern and low end dishwasher without a mold issue.I would recommend this property to a friend with some caveats. With a new dishwasher it would be easy to recommend.
Lisa T. from Lexington, KY recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2016 We had a wonderful and relaxing time with great friends at the Treetop Retreat over Thanksgiving weekend. There was plenty of space for us all which included 4 adults and 5 children that ranged in age from 8-15. There was enough in the house to do between movies, puzzles, games, and hot tub that they weren't bored. The house was fully stocked with more than enough towels and bedding, as well as a super efficient kitchen. I had brought a few random kitchen tools/utensils with me, only to find there was already the same thing there. Wonderful time of fun and relaxation!
Matt M. from Hilliard, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2016 We had a great long Labor Day weekend at Treetop Retreat! The location to the Dolly Sods and other hiking options is fantastic. We found the cabin to be the perfect size for two famalies with small kids in tow. The owners have gone to great lengths to provide detailed suggestions for exploring the outdoors and many other options in the area. The only criticism we had of our stay was the overwhelming mildew smell of the basement, which contains a bedroom and the very popular foosball table. The smell was overpowering and made it unpleasant to be spend anytime time on that level. All in all, a great house that we would recommend if you are traveling to this area.
A guest from Columbus, Ohio recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2016 Pleasant stay at Treetop Retreat in June, 2016. Quiet location in nice WV mountains and forest. The three floors allowed us to spread out for alone time, with plenty of room on the main floor for all of us to gather. Property was relatively clean and decor was enjoyable. The water pressure was not adequate for multiple uses, the wireless internet was weak, and the trail up to the Dolly Sods was only partially marked. But overall we were satisfied with our stay.
Property Manager Response: Response from Best of Canaan It is true that here in the mountains our Internet service is very slow. Thanks for your patience.
A guest from Fredericksburg, Virginia recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2016 We had an enjoyable time. We loved the layout of the house, and we especially liked the blazed trail up to Dolly Sods. We would like to rent it again. The rental office staff was very friendly. The only complaint was that the hot tub we had to flick the breaker because the motor wasn't working consistently. We got it going though.
Jerry S. from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in September, 2015 We rented Treetop Retreat for 6 days with my family. It was clean and well-stocked. Nice open floor plan on the first floor. Plenty of little nooks if you wanted privacy to read or relax. Beautiful outdoor seating area with hot tub. Very secluded and private. We had an issue with the hot tub and when I called the management company, they sent a guy up within an hour and a half to resolve it. This cabin is perfectly located for Canaan Valley Resort and Blackwater Falls. It's a half an hour to Seneca Rocks, an hour and half to Romney for the Potomac Eagle scenic shortage of outdoor fun! We plan to return in winter for tubing at the resort and this location is ideal. I wish the owners would consider allowing small dogs. The only suggestion I have is to provide a sheltered area for firewood. It was raining during our stay, and although our cabin had a nice stock of firewood, it was outside, unprotected, and was too wet to use. We were able to use a couple of logs that were left inside, but we had to purchase a hatchet to make some kindling.
Christine W. from Paw Paw, Michigan recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2015 We loved this cabin. It is very secluded. There are deer everywhere and we even saw some turkeys outside our window one morning. It is well equipped with everything you would need to make any meal. The hot tub was nice and clean. The WiFi is great in the cabin but there is NO WiFi or cell service outside of the cabin. I loved that. It was a true escape. The walk to Dolly Sods is short but steep and definitely worth it! We loved climbing on the rocks. One day it rained slightly so we went horseback riding and then played games inside the cabin. I even read a novel (there are tons of games and books!) The staff at Best of Cannaan was very accommodating. I highly recommend this cabin to any large family or group!
STEVEN B. from Moundsville, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2015 We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation weekend. MY son was in for leave from The US Airforce and it was a most memorable experience the accommodations were excellent..Thank you again.
Shan C. from Aliquippa, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2014 The pictures for this rental did not do it justice. The cabin itself is a lot larger than the pictures show. Beautiful alcove area on near top balcony was wonderful to see the sun rise and also set in late Oct. Very satisfied with the rental. We always pack extra but did not need it because everything was provided at this location. Would recommend to family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful visit.
Rob M. from Purcellville, Virginia recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2014 We had a great time here. The house is beautiful and spacious, and well laid out. The two decks and the hot tub were luxurious. The location was secluded and beautiful, but was still an easy trip to the Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls State Parks, and to Davis and Thomas. We loved hiking up to Dolly Sods from the house- it was stunning. All in all, great place for a relaxing mountain getaway.
A guest from Orlando, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2014 We had a multifamily, two-generation group that included a tween and two teens, and everybody absolutely loved Treetop Retreat. The house is well up Cabin Mountain, which is fantastic for peace and privacy (but did not require four-wheel drive to access) and made our hike to Dolly Sods Wilderness much easier than starting lower down. The house is well constructed, with windows everywhere you could possibly put one, it's literally like a luxury treehouse. Canaan Valley had many activities to keep us busy, from hiking to horseback riding to ski-lift rides, sightseeing and just enjoying hanging out on the house's decks, watching deer and hearing foxes, and of course the giant hot tub. We will definitely be back!
Randy H. from Wheeling, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2014 Fabulous time, first time staying here. Everything was good except the water pressure. Very private. Previous storm caused some road damage, but we were able get up and down the mountain without any problem. Thanks to the folks at Best of Canaan for all their extra efforts.
A guest from Lancaster, PA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2014 Was ok, a few things not so good. Saw a mouse in the house of the first night. Saw another one later on in the week which was not so good. Kitchen was well stocked, except the appliances are old not working as well as they should. The dishes were always wet, microwave hard to work. Towels in bathroom very used' and holes in washcloths! A very nice Layout in the house.
