Reviewed by: Elizabeth R. does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2016 We rented this unit for a long weekend in July. The kitchen was straight out of the catalogs of Goodwill. There is only 1 drinking glass meant for adults and 2 meant for children. The beds most resembled hammocks. The futon mattress was thinner than paper. The outside fans and lights aren't labeled. The location was great. The pool nearest the unit was green with algae. I don't think we will stay there again.
Reviewed by: A guest does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in November, 2015 The management company was by far the most rude and unhelpful I have ever done business with. I originally bought this on a groupon. My original date to stay, the Red Tide showed up. The management company said they would not reschedule our stay. Absolutely ridiculous!! After speaking with the General Manager, they made one exception and rescheduled our stay. Needless to say, the Manager was not at all happy to do this for me and she made it known. I am a full time college student, graduating THIS December with a double major. I wanted to make this trip with my boyfriend right before graduation, since the manager told me I could only reschedule within the same year. This past weekend we were supposed to go, but were unable to due to the large amount of projects I have due. I spoke with the manager and she was so rude and did not want to help me what so ever. I paid an additional $80 for cleaning(outside the groupon price) and she said she can't refund me anything. Are you serious!?!? I spent over $300 to come stay there, now in November. We can't go in the water, you can't do much, but we were going to make the best of it. I will never recommend port a escapes to anyone!! We go to Port Aransas all the time, but I promise I will never use this company ever again. The staff was so helpful and nice when they were trying to get me to buy the package. After I made the purchase, everyone's niceness went away. So disappointed.
A guest from Springs, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2015 This was our first time staying at Pirate's Bay. We were really pleased with everything, the condo, the pools, etc. The location worked too. I would definitely return and would recommend it to friends.
Property Manager Response: Response from Port Aransas Escapes We are glad to hear you enjoyed your Labor Day Weekend at Pirates Bay. Whenever you are ready to comeback, just give us a call next time your in Port A.
Mary Louise D. from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2015 THE SHANGRI-LALA PB121 WAS FABULOUS!!! THE DECOR AND AMENITIES WERE OUTLANDISH. THE ONLY THING I WOULD SUGGEST IS TO GET A HAIR DRYER- AND SMALL GRILL FOR THE PATIO...AND THE WIFI DIDNT WORK SO UPGRADE CONNECTIONS.MERCI BEAUCOUP!!!!!!!
Thomas S. from Sugar Land, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2014 Great place to stay for a quick trip - only negative was that we didn't have great directions on how to get to the actual unit, but a quick phone call took care of that. They were also quick to fix a broken garbage disposer. We had a great time and will go back again.
Mike N. from Spring, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 1 days in October, 2014 After checking in at Beach Head number 105 and finding the place outdated and dirty - we didn't even want to walk bear feet on the stained/grungy carpet. We were put in this lovely clean new rental. Loved it
Tammie B. from Liberty Hill, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2014 Condo was clean, beds were real comfortable, close to everything especially beach. Pool was fun for kids. And best thing was being able to have my dog there. She enjoyed the cold stained concrete floor. Liked how rooms and baths were on opposite ends. Patio area was wonderful and was nice to have a door from master to go out on patio or leave from bedroom without waking others. We would go back again for sure.
Jennifer S. from Austin, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2014 The whole process of renting this place was a breeze. Picked up keys, went in and made ourselves at home. We loved that we could bring our dog with us. There are two pools to enjoy, although after all the heat waves they were a little too warm to cool off. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook for our family. Everything was clean and in great shape. Thanks!
A guest from Granite Shoals, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2014 We would definitely stay here again! The condo was clean and decorated in a fun beach motif. We were surprised to see that the outside seating area all belonged to this unit and has gates on either end to give you complete privacy. We, especially, loved the fact that the unit was only two doors down from the smaller pool and was pet friendly. I will say that Pirates Bay could really use a little more grass for the number of dogs there. Also, we never did figure out the internet here. A password would have been nice to have included in our information. Overall,I would definitely recommend this property.
A guest from San Antonio, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2014 Our family has been going to Port A for the past eight years. This was our first time to stay at Pirates Bay. And, we absolutely loved our condo, Shangri-LaLa!!!! It was clean, well furnished, and spacious. The kids loved the pool and the fact our condo was close to the pool. The well manicured and tropical landscaping on the walk-ways created a very relaxing and peaceful environment.
Melissa M. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2014 It was a nice place to stay overalll with the exception of 2 main issues. The 2nd bathroom's shower plumbing...the hot and cold lines are swapped. We finally figured this out after suffering through a couple of cold showers. Also, the 2nd bed was EXTREMELY squeaky to the point where anyone who gets up or moves around makes the entire bed squeak loudly.
Jim C. from Houston, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2014 Originally booked because it was one of the few places I could find that didn't require 3 night stay. Other than being a little firther from town center than what I would have preferred, it turned out to be an excellent choice. Exceptionally clean, two master bedroom design great for two couples, parking right outside door, well furnished, all appliances worked. The only small issue I had was that we could not find the code for the wireless modem, which appeared to be on and working.
Reviewed by: Thomas R. recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2014 Clean, quiet, well appointed condo. Great location, nice pools. Prefered this condo to several beachfront units I have stayed at in the past.
Cynthia P. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2014 Spacious and clean condo that felt like home. The pools and Playscape were awesome! I loved the dog friendly atmosphere!! Very convenient walkable 24 hour store nearby.
A guest from SA, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2013 The condo was great. The layout and the rooms were very nice. We brought our dogs and the little patio was good for letting them out now and then. The kitchen had everything except a hand mixer. There was no blow dryer in the bathroom. The only problem was that the beds were so soft I kept sinking and rolling into the middle. Good location but you have to drive to the beach. Great place to just hang for a few days.
A guest from Round Rock, Texas does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2013 Everything about this conda was really cute however the beds (both of them) were so saggy and lumpy it almost ruined the trip since our backs were so sore after sleeping that it affected the next day. The owner needs to replace the beds in this condo.
A guest from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2013 Very nice place, clean & relaxing. The pool was within steps from the condo. The landscaping was beautiful. Overall...would definitely stay here again!

A guest from Lockhart, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013 Arrived sun called 4times tv did not work, repaired Monday afternoon. The bed in master was terrible , no support and would roll to center. For price paid was very disappointed .
Gina Z. from Bloomington, IL does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2013 We stayed in a different unit last year in Pirates Bay and liked it. However we did not like PB121 Shangri La la and would not recommend it. We prefer King size beds and the mattresses were not firm and you roll to the middle. This unit has no outside shower which we wanted. The TV in this unit is very old and one side the color is out because everyone is purple. You have to disconnect the cable to run DVD's and we had to put batteries into the DVD remote to make it work. The wireless Internet did not work in this unit either. There was no hot water in the sinks in the master either.
A guest from Dallas, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013 The condo was clean and well appointed. It worked well for our family needs and the two pools provided good variety. We enjoyed the location being very close to the main restaurants and also to the beach entrance. The condo had most items to feel homey. The A/C was not working when we arrived, but management had a repair crew there immediately after calling and it was fixed very quickly, so kudos to the management. A couple of items that were not perfect included an old coffee maker that barely worked and the TV in the living area was outdated and did not have a good picture. Overall a nice stay, but a couple of items need updating.
Karen C. from New Branfuls, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2013 This is the second time that we have stayed here and I love this place. It is different from what you think of when you think of a condo. It is one floor and a group of condos very close together. But it works. There is a little fenced in area between each building where you can grill and the kids can play safely. There is a pool for all of the residents to share. The condo is beautiful, nicely decorated, very clean and has all of the extras. It is also huge. You can go into your bedroom if you want some privacy. It is close to everything including the beach. The only problem that we had was the shower handle in one of the bedrooms broke. This happened during both stays. However, I would recommend this place to everyone.
Nice Property & Nice Location - Management Not Great
Sonya M. from Boerne, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2013 We rented this 2 bedroom 2 bath unit for a quick getaway to the coast with our family The layout was nice and the property was very clean. PROS: Pool directly out back gate; beach within 1/4 mile; restaurants/shopping a few blocks away; undeveloped area a short walk away that our dogs could run free in; very clean unit; nice layout; A/C worked great; nice outdoor covered seating area to relax and pile all our stuff; outdoor water hose to rinse dogs and kids after day at the beach; WI-FI easy to access (once we figured out which one to pick); 2 parking spaces and 1 close overflow spaceCONS: Master bed was incredibly uncomfortable -soft to the point of no support; Advertised as Queen beds but they are not - would only consider them full size beds; horrible pillows and no extra pillow cases - take your own pillows!; kitchen was sparse - few pots/pans, NO spices, Coffee Pot didn't work correctly; hot/cold water reversed in both bathrooms - were not notified of this and didn't figure out until after cold showers!; living room TV looks like about to go out - screen colors weird; Overall - it's a nice property and a lot of our issues could have been avoided if the property management company actually did their job - told us all the details (which Wi-Fi to access, water issues, where to find extra bedding, etc...) They were in a hurry to give us a key and get us out along with the 20 other people trying to check in at 4:00 - bad system. I asked multiple questions and was told there should be a book in the property to give me answers - there was not. When we tried to use the "24 hour" number, could not get an answer or an answering machine.
A guest from Fayetteville, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2013 The home was nice - good layout, clean, cute. Need to put some hooks in the bathrooms for towels. Nice little private patio. The community is super cute with nice pools. Our shower did not work but they sent a plumber out as soon as I called and he was able to fix it. I loved Port A and would definitely recommend it over Corpus - very touristy with all dining and shopping conveniently close.
A guest from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2013 It was a lovely cozy place that provided everything we need. The single story split bedroom floor plan is ideal for a family. We enjoyed our stay here at Pirates Bay and loved the amenities. The location is close to the beach and the convince store/gas station.
Norma M. from Karnes City, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2013 This place was amazing!!! So much space very clean and well kept...the pool was so relaxing..a perfect place for kids husband and I plan on coming back next year!!!
Selina G. from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2013 Beautiful condo and resort. I immediately felt at home for our entire stay. I was sorry to have to check out. We vacation in Port A every year and this was our first time using Port A escapes. I will definitely recommend this to my family members for next year
Chris A. from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2013 It would have been nice to check in earlier than 4 p.m. We arrived around noon and headed to the beach until check in. The master bed were a little too small for my husband to sleep with both me and our 3 year old so he slept on the futon sofa (which came in handy). We appreciated the dog friendly policy which allowed our dogs to travel with us. We loved the stained concrete floors and kitchen, washing amenities. The TV in the family room needs to be updated - our teenager brought along his video games but was unable to connect to the TV. The pool looked AWESOME but we didn't have time to enjoy it. We will absolutely be back!!! I also left behind a monogramed beach towel in the dryer and called twice but no one called me back or mailed it to me :(
Ross P. from Corpus Christi, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2013 The house was very nice. It was just me and my fiancé staying at the house so there was plenty of room. The Pirates Bay Resort is a great place to stay in Port A. The beach is 5 minutes away on a golf cart. We don't have kids but Pirates Bay is very kid friendly with 2 onsite pools. The house was very comfortable and had a private lounge area to enjoy your coffee or late night drinks. We had one small plumbing issue with the master shower. Made a phone call to Port A Escapes and they had a plumber over there within the hour to fix the issue. Also the living room TV is outdated, dvd player does not work, and the master does not have a TV. Those are my only complaints. We had a fantastic time in Port A and would definitely recommend the Shangri-Lala house. Can't wait to go back next summer.
