Toronto International Film Festival. This event draws not just film buffs, but film stars from a variety of genres. The festival that started it all is held in September in Toronto, but the event has grown to a year-round love affair with cinema. You'll find programming and events scheduled throughout the year.

Just for Laughs, Montreal. Imagine 400 comedians descending on Montreal for a week and performing in 250 shows. Sound like a lot of laughs and a lot of fun? Well, it is. In July, plan on belly laughs and smiles all around. If you can't make it in July, there's still plenty of comedy to be enjoyed in Montreal, one of Canda's most vibrant cities.

Quebec Winter Carnival. Let's just get it out there--it snows in Canada during the winter. A lot. But that's a good thing, because it means Canadians have learned to make snow more fun than just about anywhere else in the world. The Quebec Winter Carnival, held in February, offers so much winter fun that you won't even notice the cold--artic spa villages, ice palaces, snow slides, dogsled rides, outdoor BBQ, sleigh rides and a lot more unique snow-inspired activities you simply won't find on any beach, ever. Catch the fun before it melts away.

Vancouver Symphony of Fire/ Celebration of Light. The official name of this event has changed (as have sponsors), the incredible splendor and amazing display of fireworks hasn't. The Celebration of Light is the largest fireworks competition in the world, attracting 400,000 people from Canada, the United States and around the world. Fireworks experts from around the globe compete for the title of The Best Fireworks Display in the World. The festival runs for multiple nights in late July and early August.

The Calgary Stampede. Besides being held in one of the most beautiful parts of British Columbia, it's a 10-day celebration of cowbay culture. There's a rodeo (the world's richest tournament-style rodeo), chuckwagon races, grandstand shows, animal and agriculture displays, a world-famous parade and much more. 2012 was the 100th anniversary of the Stampede, and it's held in July and just keeps getting better every year.
