Des Rosiers is a large alpine-style house in a tiny village called Verthier at the southern end of Lake Annecy. Quiet and peaceful, the house enjoys stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains and is the ideal location for year-round holidays (only 40 minutes or so from the nearest ski resort). The house is on three levels. The ground floor includes a comfortable sitting room with large stone fire place and satellite TV which receives English and French programmes. There is a formal dining room, a more casual breakfast area and a well-equipped kitchen with cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and microwave oven. There is also a separate WC on this floor. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms (one with en suite bathroom), a twin-bedded room (each bed is actually a small double), another bathroom with its own shower cubicle and a separate WC. All the bedrooms are light and comfortable and have wood ceilings and lovely views. Downstairs is a lovely twin-bedded room which opens up onto its own terrace and another bathroom. Also on this floor is the boiler room (which houses the washing machine and tumble drier) and the integral garage with automatic door. We've personally owned this house for more than 10 years and have always loved its character, but have recently completed a major renovation with new bathrooms and heating and redecorated it throughout to make it even more comfortable. Outside There's a large, secluded garden and private terrace with built-in barbecue. Two full sides of the house open onto a balcony to take full advantage of the beautiful views. Located at the foot of the mountains, Verthier is part of the commune of Doussard – a friendly village with a bank, shops, supermarket and bar. Verthier is sometimes called the source of the lake as it is Doussard´s rivers which feed the vast majority of Lake Annecy´s waters. Just up the road is a complex with 4 hard tennis courts. It´s also possible to cycle between Doussard and Annecy on a dedicated cycle route along the lake. Lake Annecy has been described as the purest lake in Europe and is about a 20-minute walk from the house. You can swim from jetties, sunbathe and picnic on the water´s edge and also rent a boat to take advantage of the beautiful scenery. Or try water sports such as kayaking, water-skiing, wakeboarding or scuba diving. There are some great lakeside restaurants to choose from – we give full details in our comprehensive house book. The town of Annecy is a 12-mile drive along the east bank of the lake (takes about 25 minutes) and is great for a day out at any time of year. Home of wonderful restaurants, lovely shops, historic buildings and quaint waterways we haven´t met anyone who doesn´t love it. There is wonderful walking nearby and for the more daring, the Col de la Forclaz, world-renowned paragliding centre is about 6 miles away. For skiers Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and Les Saisies, the nearest ski stations are about 40 minutes away by car. Megève and Courcheval are among several other resorts that are also reachable in just under an hour The house is ideal for golfers, being situated between the spectacular 18-hole courses at Golf du lac d´Annecy at Echarvines on the east side of the lake, and the 9 and 18-hole courses at Golf de Giez with its magnificent views of Mont Blanc and Lake Annecy. There are several other courses within an hour´s drive. Please note: We regret no under 5's, no pets and no smoking in the house.
