The Vexin region feels and looks like deepest rural France, yet Paris is one hour's drive as are Honfleur and Deauville. Nestled in the small hamlet of Dampsmesnil, hidden between rolling hills and the Epte valley, this early 18C farming cottage has been carefully restored, and for the past 12 years has been the weekend home/escape valve for our family. We love to spend as much time as possible outside, either lazily in our 2500sqm (half acre) garden, taking long walks and bike rides through local woodlands and fields, or boating down the river Epte. Within minutes of the house there are many other leisure activites too, including horse riding; tennis in the next door village; trout fishing on the Epte or local lakes; golf at Villarceaux - one of the best courses in Normandy, or sailing on the Seine near Vernon (15mins), which also boasts a new swimming pool. For art lovers Dampsmesnil is also a perfect base for discovering Giverny (15 mins) where the American Impressionist museum and Monet's world-renowned gardens are located and, within minutes of Giverny, the rural settings for many of Monet's paintings. The house is centrally heated, and on fresher evenings or in the cooler months, the lounge becomes a real magnet with its roaring fire and large comfy sofas. The kitchen table seats 8 very comfortably. There are also a BBQ and 10 person teak table & chairs outside. The bakery/supermarkets are just 10 minutes away and we can recommend some excellent restaurants in the area too. Venturing further afield; hot air ballooning (20mins), Adventure Land (25mins), Eurodisney and Parc Asterix (recommended) are approx. 90 minutes away.
