Hillview Crescent runs along the slopes of the Whitfield Range about 4km north of Cairns CBD. The suburb of Whitfield and neighbouring Edgehill were early favourites because of their elevation and the surrounding rainforest. Only 50 years ago Whitfield was a dairy farm. Today these suburbs are loved for their hi-set timber houses , lush gardens and many wonderful old trees that give the streets a scented and leafy ambience.The house and garden The house is a lowset timber house in a beautiful garden of colourful and scented ginger, lipstick palms, cycads and ferns.
A large deck at the front faces the Whitfield Range and a covered deck behind overlooks the swimming pool and garden. The TV room/hall opens onto the front deck and the garden sitting room opens onto the pool deck. The main bedroom (with ensuite) opens onto the garden deck. There is a second bathroom and separate loo. The kitchen looks out to the garden and is very well equipped. There is also a laundry with top loading w/m and a dryer.
Towels and bed linen are supplied.
All bedrooms and the main room have air-conditioners but guests should note that the weekly electricity allowance is $35 which does not allow for continuous air-conditioning. Extra electricity costs may be $10+ per day. Location Whitfield is next to Edgehill village - a popular gathering place with its cafes, vegetable shop/delicatessen, fish shop, hairdresser, beauty salon, restaurant, pub, liquor shop, shoe shop, mini supermarket and Real Estate agents.
The Flecker Botanical Gardens form the eastern boundary of the suburb. They are one of the great tropical gardens of the world and should not be missed. Have lunch or coffee too in the garden cafe.
The Cairns CBD and the Marlin Wharf (for Barrier Reef departures) are about 10 minutes by car from Whitfield. Cairns International (and domestic) airport is also about 10 minutes drive.
The Northern beaches (Machan's, Holloway's, Yorkey's Knob, Trinity, Kewarra, Clifton and Palm Cove) are from 10-25 minutes drive.
