Great location, needs a lot of attention
Mark H. S. from Denton, TX does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 4 days in August, 2009
The trailer is very small, with no room for luggage. Storage closet was filled with junk in trash bags. The area around the trailer was waist high with weeds and the lots of junk was strewn about. The @%$#^& black water tank was full when we got there and never would drain all the way. I was out in the rain with a flashlight our first night; the hose was off and the tank gave us trouble the whole time. We would have called for help but the phone didn't work, and neither did the wi-fi. One coffee cup and no wash rags. Faucet hose broken in sink, utensil drawer broken, room divider screen broken, etc... This is a great location and a very cool concept, but attention is desperately needed. The hot tub was great, as were the stars and isolated feel (but even there, there instruction manual said to add "a shock tab from under the sink" but there were none. We were left wondering when the last time the hot tub had seen any chemicals).

Airstream not quite ready for prime time
A guest from Austin, Tx. does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in July, 2009
Great Idea. Beautiful location. Your average visitor looking for a novel experience could use a bit more instruction and/or tender loving attention to figure out all of the manifold electronic and mechanical details for a first time airstream stay. Also, with a $70.00 mandatory cleaning fee, we didnt expect to have to clean out the refridgerator freezer ourselves from the last tenant's rotten, smelly icecream container that was left there. Also, some of the personally rigged components didn't work very well like the hot water heater that gave out after the second shower (never to heat up again); the propane tank that was empty; the leak in the roof heater that we had to put a pan under to collect the water from torrential rains after we wasted all our towels trying to keep the place dry; and the TV service that didn't work after the rain as well. The surroundings were beautiful; it was a fun adventure; but you really had to be prepared to make do and figure lots of things out on your own to take advantage of the place. We recommend that you have someone meet first time guests at the airstream upon arrival and teach them all the ropes for all aspects--from turning on the fridge to gettting in the front door; to working the shower; the hot tub and the heating/air units. Thanks for the opportunity, though--we did grow to love it!

Luxury and duct tape don't fit
A guest from Colombia, MO does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 16 days in October, 2008
This place was fine for camping. For some reason, they want to emphasize the luxury aspect and that is the part that felt dishonest. It smelled of smoke, it had duct tape all over holding things together, sealing holes in the screens, etc. It was cluttered. More dire, the gas leak alarm was on, but when contacted the owner simply said, "crack a window." I ended up leaving early once it got cold because I was worried about running the heater, not knowing if there was a gas leak or not. The setting is beautiful.

According to the website and contract, you listed a hot tub, satelite TV and gas grill. Although all of these things were available, none were working. Hot tub was out of commission. Satelite TV had only 6 channels, and there was NO PROPANE in the grill. Because there was only local calls from the airstream, and no cell phone service we were unable to call. The space and airstream were great and cozy; however, expecting the TV, hot tub and grill, we left disappointed.

Great Hide away---yet close to town
scott j. from christiansburg, VA recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in September, 2008
My son and I stayed at the property for my 50th birthday. It was great. It is close enough to town but tucked away in a nice valley for some isolation. The camper worked out great. The hiking in the area is superp-20 min to desert hiking and the rio grande gorge, 20 minutes to high alpine hiking(highly rec climbing Mt Wheeler. We had a wonderful time and will be back.

Ideal get away
A guest from Austin, TX recommends this property.
Stayed for 6 days in September, 2008
Renting this airstream was the perfect last detail to cap off my "get away". I was taking a "walkabout", looking for some serenity with easy access to some challenging mountain bike trails, but I still wanted a few creature comforts. This airstream and its location could not have been more perfect.

Quiet, clean, in a really nice spot - minor problems - electricity goes out for an hour each afternoon - neighborhood issue not Airstream's - not quite as private as advertised - other houses nearby visible through the trees

Disaster
A guest from Tuscon, AZ does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 1 days in August, 2008
This is my formal request for a refund. I have just returned from a long trip that began at the trailer in Taos and I really feel taken. Shalamar & Gordy were pleasant to deal with but the fact is the price was listed on the web as $69 and even with Shalamar making an adjustment it cost me over $100. Then I got there after a long trip from Tucson with my partner and the hot tub was broken. We were screwed and the energy of our whole trip was twisted. She was still upset over three weeks later the other day. Had the tub worked and we could have really enjoyed the place I would be OK with it.What we got was not what we paid for and I deserve refund. Please be kind enough to do so and contact me ASAP.

We Loved It!
Becky C. from Pasadena, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in August, 2008
We came to Taos for a family reunion with descendents of Simeon Turley who live in Des Montes and his brother Jessie B. Turley who live in Missouri-my cousin Donna and California-that would be me. Turley's Mill is at the other end of the valley so when you get to the T you take a left instead of a right. Just by chance a few days before we were to meet an archaeology student who had been surveying the site for 2 months for his PHd. thesis answered my query on TOPIX looking for our Turley relatives, we made arrangements to meet with him and our cousins at the Southwest Research Center. He gave a brief talk and then we went to the site for a guided tour. The next day Donna and her husband arrived and we again went to the site for a tour with Corky Hawk a local historian. It was hot that day and Donna is fair so you can imagine what a relief it was to get to the trailer with the awning down and the air conditioner on, she cooled off pretty quick. It is just remote enough to give a feeling of isolation but close enough to be fun getting there. We really enjoyed eating at Graham's in Taos and Michael's also and we loved the Cajun place on the highway. It was a wonderful experience and we hated to leave.

Loved the place, but we got locked in. the door wouldn't open from the inside and we had to crawl out the window to open it from the outside. Also, the stereo was broken, and there was no emergency contact number. Also, the hot tub was rather dirty. But beside those few things, we loved it.

Tips to consider
Jaime C. from Colorado Springs, CO recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in May, 2008
We had a lovely stay in Taos. And really enjoyed the Airstream! The key opportunities that would have made the stay perfect:- the hot tub was dirty (with visible dirt and other floating un-nameables in it) and we could not use it.- the inside smelled like smoke, and even though we tried our best to open windows and light candles, the scent remained throughout our stay.- we ran out of clean towels on the second day.- we were unable to locate the wood-burning fire pit which was listed in the amenities.- we were aware that someone had rented the property immediately before us, which is probably why we ran out of plastic cups and large plates (we just washed them to keep re-using). But a back-stock of these basics would have been helpful.- we also couldn't find a frying/saute pan Otherwise, as I mentioned, we really enjoyed our Airstream experience! And would be happy to come back anytime.Thank you,Jaime Carrington

We - two adults and a 7 mo-old baby - had a very enjoyable time in this rental. The interior is small, of course, but very clean and well organized with everything you need. The hot tub was great, the location is out of the way and scenic but convenient to Taos and the little wealthy hippy town of Arroyo Seco. When we were there the phone didn't work which was FINE by us but worth checking on if that matters to you, since cell phones didn't work at the property.

Very Nice Getaway
A guest from Mill Creek, WA recommends this property.
Stayed for 2 days in May, 2008
The Airstream was a very nice getaway. Wireless worked great, private, and we enjoyed the gas grill, hot tub, and entertainment system. Airstreams are tight so pack light. The place was not cleaned prior to our visit but that was more likely a scheduling snafu and our rate was discounted. We recommend as a unique and comfortable getaway.

My Digital Nomad Ordeal
David I. from Austin, TX does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in March, 2008
Dear Digital Nomad,

My vacation couldn't have gotten off to a worse start and Digital Nomad deserves all of the blame. The directions that you sent were completely and totally incorrect. The directions took me down some back roads, alleys, and driveways on the South side of Taos when the actual property was up in Valdez. I'm sure anyone familiar with Taos would have known this, but given that it is a vacation property and I was on vacation and relying on your directions, I was completely lost. After driving around for at least 45 minutes in the dead of night, I finally called the office number. Luckily, the woman who handles properties for the Taos/South called back and confirmed that I needed to be up in Valdez, not Taos, but she didn't know the area well enough to offer directions. She recommended I call her partner in the area who handles that property. I called him. He called me back around 2:00 the following afternoon and was only minimally concerned with my ordeal the previous night. That was completely unacceptable. Back to the ordeal...I purchased a map at a convenience store and made my way up to Valdez and to the property. Luckily, the map I purchased was very detailed and I was able to follow the curves in the road to the property -- after a few tries that is, given that the property is poorly marked.

Any self-respecting business would refund the first night of our stay given the ridiculousness of your sending us the COMPLETELY wrong directions to your property. Further, the consideration and concern shown by the property manager as to our being sent the wrong directions was completely non-existent.

In addition to these issues, my other concern is that you do a poor job managing expectations for the property. The bed in the Airstream is NOT a full/queen bed by any stretch of the imagination and the bathroom is full only in the sense that it has all of the necessary working parts.
