Come, take a wonderfully relaxing holiday on a beautiful wine domaine in the South of France. It is only minutes from the beaches of the Mediterranean and less than an hours drive from the Haut Languedoc National Park, a walkers paradise of mountains and gorges. La Vernazobre has been a wine producing domaine for centuries and is situated in a typically beautiful landscape of vines stretching from the sea to the Cévennes hills. The atmosphere here is friendly and relaxed and fluent English is spoken. Christophe, the owner has a private swimming pool, which is available for use by guests. La Vernazobre is perfectly placed for the Mediterranean; the nearest beaches can be reached in just 10 minutes. As well as beaches, there are beautiful lakes, mountains and gorges within one hours drive.
The area has large numbers of medieval towns and villages to visit including Pezenas, St Guilhem-le-Desert and the Cite of Carcassonne. Just over hours drive will take you to the heart of ‘Cathar’ country with imposing castles and monastries such as Montsegur and Queribus. Below are some more of the nearby attractions. 40 minutes drive from La Vernazobre is the holiday resort of Cap d’Agde. It has some 14 kilometres of fine beaches and many attractions for the children like ‘Toonland’ and the famous ‘Aqualand ’
with its giant flumes, water slides and wave machine as well as a super ‘tots area’ for the very young. Meze
Only 10 minutes drive from La Vernazobre , Meze is a delightful little town with a wonderful harbour and lots of narrow winding streets. It is situated on the ‘Bassin de Thau’ (the large inland lagoon connected to the Med.) and is an important centre for oyster and mussel farming. Huge oyster beds are a local industry and seafood is available everywhere. There are small beaches to both sides of the harbour, which are clean, and the water is shallow, ideal for children. Take lunch at one of the many restaurants surrounding the harbour where you will find some of the most wonderful seafood dishes. If you need to walk off your lunch then stroll up to the 15th century church, or the nearby village of Bouzigues. Pezenas
Only 6km away is the medieval town of Pezenas. Here you can explore the winding cobbled streets and can watch local craftsmen blowing glass, making jewellery or potting the local brightly coloured Provencal ceramics. After a morning of discovering the arts and crafts gift shops and artists galleries you will be ready to drop into one of Pezenas's many colourful cafes and restaurants either in the old town square or tucked away in the many ancient twisting alleyways Saturday is market day and Pezenas offers a wealth of local produce, flower stalls, and colourful clothing accompanied by the sounds of jazz or local folk groups
The Accommodation
There are two properties for let at La Vernazobre, Maison Grenache a three bedroomed house and Apartment Chardonney a three bedroomed apartment.
The apartment and house have simple,comfortable furnishings. You will find plenty of space for either having a quiet afternoon with a book, walking or just lazing around. The Domaine is quietly situated some distance from the nearest road. It should be noted that the owners swimming pool which is available to the guests is not fenced in and therefore care needs to be exercised with small children. Apartment Chardonnay (70 m²) is on the first floor. Cheerfully decorated in shades of yellow and green this apartment can sleep up to 5 people. The main bedroom has a double bed and leads to a second single bedroom. In the third bedroom there is a single bed downstairs and a small child's bed upstairs on a mezzanine. There is a living room with table, chairs and sideboard and a kitchenette with gas cooker, large fridge/freezer, electric kettle. The bathroom contains a shower, hand basin and toilet. There is a barbecue area outside with garden furniture
Maison Grenache (80m²) This house is on three floors and can sleep up to 6 people. On the ground floor is the living room / kitchen with table and chairs, cooker, large fridge, electric kettle, and washing machine. The shower room is on the ground floor. Upstairs, there is a sitting room area with views over the courtyard. On this floor there is also a twin bedroom. Steps lead up from the sitting room to the two other bedrooms, both with double beds. The house is situated across the courtyard from the main building and Apartment 1, and there is a very pleasant terrace with a trellis covered in greenery and flowers in the summer. There is plenty of garden furniture and a barbecue.
The apartment and house overlook the domaine and the proprietor, Christophe de Beauregard, would be only too pleased to present his excellent wine to you in person in the attractive wine-cellar.
