Week in Kona near beach with family.
A guest from Longmont, CO does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2016 The location was good and the kitchen and bathrooms were outfitted fine and laundry. Choose the unit since it had a loft with bed for our 15 year old grandson. Had difficulty with getting the key: keypad did not work well. Also, the air conditioning was good for the room it was in (living room and loft) but the bedrooms did not get air. Also, there were ants and other bugs in kitchen. Store your food in refrigerator.
A guest from Trinity Center, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2016 It was great. The condo was well appointed and comfortable. Just lived in enough to fell like home. Great kitchen layout and washer dryer a plus. It's location is perfect--close to downtown and nearby beaches.Overall a wonderful experience. I can't wait to visit again.Thank you for a memorable stay.
Thom L. from Chicago, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in May, 2016 I've stayed at this complex before and loved it though it was a different unit. The location is awesome. Two weeks disappointing factors, one I blame them for and one I don't. The one I don't, but you need to be aware of, the master bed in unit 106 faces Ali'i drive and it is super noisy throughout the night. The good, the door are pretty well insulated so shutting the cuts out most of it, FOR ME, the Hawaii experience is to have the trade wind lull me to sleep so I hated closing the doors. What I do blame them for, the roaches! Understand, in Hawaii, especially in homes, you will have bugs, it's just part of island life, if you can't deal stay on a resort, though you'll probably get a few they too. Hawaii is a second home for me so Ive gotten used to the bugs a long time ago, but this was ridiculous! Roaches were everywhere. It was obvious that the unit hasn't been treated in a long time, with much they charge I expect a little better control of the situation. If the step up and get that unit treated more regularly I highly highly highly recommend this place, but until the do, I'd stay away. Please curb the critters
A guest from Reno, NV does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2016 This was our second year staying here and it has gotten worse instead of better. I called the management and they did promptly fix most things but this is stuff that the cleaners should have seen or even maybe the owners should stay there now and then and see what the place is lacking. Will not be back. It has a great location but the road is very noisey. Lots of broken things and missing essentials in the unit. And I was told they want to raise the $$$.
Junjie X. from Dallas, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in February, 2016 This condo is beyond our expectations. I think it actually is much bigger and newer compared with their pictures. It is fully equipped. Great location too.
Richard S. from Pahoa, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2016 This is the second time we have stayed in this unit. Both times it has been a perfect choice for our family. The condo was roomy enough for our group of 5 adults and 2 pre-schoolers. It was well equipt with plenty of towels, bedding and kitchenware. About the only thing we were missing was a large frying pan.A nice selection of beach and water toys was found on the lanai. The kitchen was stocked with some basic spices and condiments. The unit was very comfortable. The air conditioning worked well. Our queen size bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. The condo does not have an ocean view but it is conviently located within a very short walk across the street to beaches and close to shopping. Grandkids were disappointed that the pool was closed for maintanience the one day they wanted to use it.
Richard G. from Summerland, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 12 days in January, 2016 We enjoyed our stay at this property. The the condo was spacious with a very good layout. While not on the water, it was close enough to hear the surf with a short walk to a small beach. It was a short walk to the water front with several restaurants, bars and shops.
A guest from Fall River, Nova Scotia recommends this property. Stayed for 13 days in December, 2015 Great location, close to town and beaches. There was some traffic noise from Ali Drive but that can't be prevented. My only suggestion is to have more lights in the bedrooms.
Chuck P. from Masonville, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in June, 2015 Rental was clean but several maintenance issues, though nothing terriby serious. Burned out light bulbs, deck sliding glass door blinds broken and inoperable making use of lanai very difficult, microwave front falling off, Upstairs AC unit leaked moisture down onto kitchen cabinet. All in all, the important things worked.
Susan H. from Sacramento, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 12 days in March, 2015 This condo was perfect for our trip. Good location, plenty of room, nice appliances. It was a bit challenging to keep cool for sleeping. Lots of road noise with the location near a stop sign. The AC only kept the main room cool.
Amy H. from Sparks, NV recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2015 It was nice. The front lock box does not lock. So we did not leave an extra key in there. A not to renters would have been nice to say what the internet log in was and where to put recycle. The ceiling fan in the master wobbles and makes horrible noise to sleep with it on.
A guest from Vernon, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2015 We had a great stay at the vacation rental. Good location, nice home, lots of great beach toys! Pool and bbq area was not great!
A guest from Kisbey, Saskatchewan recommends this property. Stayed for 39 days in December, 2014 Our stay at Lunapule #106 was perfect. The condo was very nice and suited our needs perfectly. We were close to town, the condo had a great lanai to have our morning coffee on. We loved counting the green geckos on the palms every morning. The place was clean, and we loved the pool.We would definitely stay here again.
Anna L. from Auckland, Auckland recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2014 Fantastic place to stay for Ironman. Close enough to the start to not be inconvenient. Everything you need is within walking or cycling distance. Clean. Gets a bit hot up in the loft. Love the automatic ice maker in the fridge.
A guest from Nevada City, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in September, 2014 Nice place to stay at a reasonable price. Kitchen supplies were a bit limited. Pool area needed a better barbecue and was not extremely inviting. The pool was not important to me, we go to enjoy the ocean.
A guest from Saltcoats, Saskatchewan recommends this property. Stayed for 17 days in February, 2014 Our second visit to Kona, first stay at Lunapule#106. We are a group of 4 adults, the condo suited us well. Great location...about a 5 min. walk from a nice little beach and a 10 min. walk from the downtown area. The condo is located on Alii Drive therefore traffic noise may be a problem for light sleepers but we seemed to get used to it. We did not spend anytime at the pool or use the barbeque therefore cannot comment on it except it's located across the parking lot. We did a fair bit of cooking at the condo and found it well outfitted. My only suggestion would be a new coffee maker and if I were the owner I would remove the carpets. Otherwise a great place.
Dana D. from Leavenworth, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 13 days in December, 2013 We loved the Kona Sunset Condo. Great location and walking distant to town. I thought the pool needed to be cared for better and updated but didn't spend time there so no big deal. I would stay there again!
A guest from Independence, MO recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2013 Very satisfied with the condo & property. Had one issue & it was handled well thd nexg morning. Family had a great time. A car is very much needed.
Bill L. from Maple Ridge, BC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 8 days in April, 2013 The property was clean and tidy but was located facing Ali'i Drive and was very busy from sunrise to sunset. There is one air conditioner for the entire condo that did very little to cool the unit. It gets very hot and uncomfortable. There was an exhaust fan in the loft area located in a small window that was not running. If it had been it probably would have been slightly cooler. Nice kitchen with modern appliances and big fridge and stove. Other than the heat and noise, quite a nice unit.
MaryLou G. from Goomburra, Qld recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2013 on the web the pool area looked to be connectec to the unti it also looked inviting the real story was the unit was not near the pool at all and the pool was really poorly maintained as there was paint peeling of it etc In unit the upstairs bedroom had no fan or air into it but still alovely room. WAs great to have all the kitchen things there everything worked well didnt help though the last night there we lost power for 10 hrsso would recommend this place for serviceable no water front view place to staymangement was great to deal with
If you want a stress free vacation, this is not the place to stay
Alan & Denise S. from Clarinda, IA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 11 days in February, 2013 Did not enjoy the noise pollution. Renting the condo was easy. Not the right location for a tranquil retreat or ocean view. The street noise covered any ocean sounds that would be ideal. The updated kitchen was nice. Bathrooms need updating. Dryer took forever to dry anything. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone wanting to find a peaceful vacation.
A guest from Marion, MA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2013 The condo had the right amount of space for a family of four, but was very old. Other than a recently upgraded kitchen, the rest of the condo was late 1980's, the smaller shower was tiny and looked well used and the electric fuse for the kitchen and the water heater had to be reset at least two to three times a day and especially each morning to ensure we had hot water. The screen door was broken and could not be closed. The location was great though and the condo complex itself was very quiet. The unitWas well stocked with basic amenities so we did not have to shopOther than for food. The pool was such a disappointment so we never used it.
A guest from Fremont, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2012 This condo had a perfect location on Ali Drive. We could walk to almost everything. Good restaurants, farmer's market, groceries all within walking distance. A small white sand beach and a cute snorking area was within 5 mins driving distance. Everyday evening 15 mins before sunset we could walk out to see the sunset on the ocean. This place had two body boards, kids enjoyed a lot on those body boards. Ali Drive is a busy street but we enjoyed watching people jog and all that happening on Ali Drive.
yvonne e. from Auburn, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2012 Loved the location to the town, close to beaches. We did have 8 people and so the sofa beds that did not work was an issue but we managed. Had home cooked meals every night and great family time. I would stay there again.
Nathan P. from Nome, AK recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in March, 2012 We booked this place because we were going to have two small, young families and needed the space. We ended up with just one family and mothers in laws visiting so it worked, but the loft would not have been ideal for either young family. And the loft is hot.The kitchen is small, but big enough and beautiful. The dishwasher is a nice added luxury. The lanai is nice to have, but faces the street, not the pool which is actually located in another area. We never used the pool because we felt like we were in someone else's backyard (but that was probably our own deal). Also, we didn't NEED a pool with the great Kona weather! We hit the beaches almost every day instead and used the unit more for a staging area and sleeping place. The one major drawback was the noise of traffic from Ali'i Drive. I could sleep through it, but others not so well, and our baby woke up quite a bit too.
Alton G. from Danville, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 32 days in January, 2012 The location was very good and the property was in good condition. Wireless internet was added on the 3rd day we were there. The only problem was the noise from the street which was at a 3 way stop with the motorcycles and trucks loud acceleration after the stop.
Tony M. from Huntley, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in February, 2011 The Condo sits right on Alii drive, (light sleepers beware)so it is within easy walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants in old Kona town. Well furnished with nice new kitchen. It can sleep 5-6 comfortably. Didn't use the pool since the beach was also close. DVD player would be a nice addition.
A guest from Karperstraat, 180 recommends this property. Stayed for 17 days in September, 2010 The house is perfect for 4 people or for a family with children. There are two bedrooms and twe bathrooms, the other people sleep in an area above the living room, so for a group of 6 or 8 friends the house is not very handy. The location is perfect, you can walk to the centre of Kona.
nice location, unit very warm/hot, air condition very noisy, screen door is hooked on wrong - opening to wrong side of entrance.
A guest from Honolulu, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 18 days in September, 2010 nice kitchen, a bit noisy from Alii drive. Worst noise is the air condition unit. But we were satisfied. One of our men left his nice tan/brown shoe when we left/vacate the unit. Talked to Wayne but we weren't able to get the nice shoe back. We got one shoe (a different one-dark colored one )back that was left there ( fella didn't not know he left shoe back at unit/apt. But never got the nice/tan dress shoe back. We also left a new dish rack that we bought (maroon color one) when we moved in but were not able to retrieve either.
Melina T. from Red Deer, AB recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in November, 2009 Overall, this was a good accommodation. Location is great, close to shopping and the ocean, the kitchen is very nice, layout is practical and comfortable. The disadvantages are that this unit is very noisy and very hot. We had difficulties sleeping because of the noise and the heat. The units should be properly insulated for the climat. The loft is immpossible to use - it is that hot. The carpets should be changed, they look worn out and dirty. Overall I would rate it at 2 2/3. Thanks
Property Manager Response: Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals November was a very hot month with temperatures reaching 95 degrees during the day. A/C units in not only this property, but other properties and my office as well could not cool sufficiently. The loft is an issue and we are in the process of installing a separate A/C there. I carpets are worn, but are not dirty. I have not had noise complaints on this unit before and am wondering if the sliders were left open because of the heat which would make the noise from the street much louder.
Linda M. from Scottsdale, AZ does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2009 I would not recommend only because we basically had very little comfort in the way of air conditioning. With 5 people sleeping and poor air conditioning, it put a damper on our stay when kids and myself didn't sleep well. But, lessons learned. Thanks.
Property Manager Response: Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals The air conditioning unit in the living room is usually sufficient to cool the downstairs. The loft area does get warm and we have installed a fan in the ceiling that pulls air out. The month of August here in Kona is the hottest month of the year and this year was no exception. My office A/C unit has been running 8 to 10 degrees higher this month as a result of the warm days and humidity. The A/C unit will be tested to insure it is working propertly or will be replaced.
A guest from Kent, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in February, 2009 Nice place within walking distance of downtown. Plenty of room. Has everything we needed. Property manager was awesome.
Bathroom Cleanliness and Kitchen utinsils and serving bowls
Harry M. from Prineville, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 17 days in December, 2008 The small bathroom was full of mold in the shower and on the floor. The larger bathroom had mold on the floor and some in the shower but not in the quantity of the small bathroom. There was not a full set of silverware available or adequate serving bowls. Other than the above we were quite comfortable.
Tom D. from Tacoma, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2008 Problem with location was road noise, not something you can fix, but it might be better to alert guests to the issue. Made worse by fact you want to leave windows and doors open to ventilate at night.
Cheryl A. from Papa'aloa, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2008 My family loved the location of this vacation rental. We enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi. It was a great place for rest and relaxation. Even though we were able to see the traffic on Ali'i Drive from our balcony, we slept peacefully. We are looking forward for our stay next year. Thanks!!
A guest from Santa Cruz, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2008 We loved the convenience of the location. The unit was beautiful. It exceeded our expectations. It was very spacious and the layout offered much privacy. I have already forwarded the unit information to a friend who is looking for a place to stay. I can't imagine why this wouldn't be the perfect place for everyone.
Rosita Maria & Nabih D. from Sao Paulo, Brazil recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2008 Could have more litghs points in the living. Pool there was o lot of cloro But the rest was very good.
A guest from Fallbrook, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 8 days in June, 2008 a/c was only one inwall unit. Didn't keep anything cool except the living room and kitchen. Had to sleep on the floor in the lr, upstairs and bedrooms waaay too hot. Keep the fans OFF, they only suck the hot air back down.
