The surprising and Expensive Disappointment
A guest from San Ramon, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2016 The inside of the house was pleasant and comfortable, except spots like the television cabinet were covered in cobwebs and dust. The outside of the house, front and back , looked like a haunted house. Unswept, dirty, heavy cobwebs and bird droppings covered the patio and unswept decks. SO unwelcoming and embarrassing for us, especially since we invited guests. We requested a significant refund. We will see if we receive it...
Sandy B. from Morro Bay, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2016 I have such a deep fondness for this place. Whenever I'm there it brings back such wonderful childhood memories. The weather was very hot this year so we spent most our time sitting in the shade on the porch or the dock.
Jane V. from Mill Valley, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2015 the drawers in the kitchen need to be cleaned....kitchen in general not too clean. Rug in upstairs room needs a good cleaning. Wonderful dock and view keep us coming back each year!!
Sandy B. from Los Angeles, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2014 My grandparents were the first owners of this cabin and I was there every summer for close to 40 years. It's like going home. And very little has changed on the interior. Too bad about the lake but having no water didn't really bother me.
A guest from San Francisco, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2013 Our family has stayed at Arce's Lakehouse for more than 25 years - so you could say I know it quite well. Twain Harte is a beloved family place for a variety of reasons, and the location of this property right on the lake with the dock is the main reason we have come for so long. However, every year the condition of the furnishings is a major disappointment. In fact, it's become a family joke - "Wonder what will be new when we get there? I know - nothing!" The furniture is tatty and ratty. Some of the mattresses must be 20 years old. The deck furniture in particular is horrible - white plastic chairs that have been there at least 10 years and are now black. This year there was something new - a hideous, uncomfortable couch. The wood table/bench on front patio is so splintery I didn't even sit on it this year. And there's one other thing: The condition of the stairs down to the property, and the stairs from the cabin to the lake. They need to be torn out and replaced. It is a safety/liability issue for the owners. Even with all this, I'm sure we'll be back, just because we have been going there so long. But they should be fixed.
Mary B. from San Anselmo, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2013 The door opens into the laundryroom. All the curtains are drawn and everything's dark and dreary. Then the burglar alarm goes off. We don't have cell phone reception to call anyone, the pages and pages of conditions we have to meet don't say anything about an alarm. I can't find the cabin phone (it was in a kitchen cabinet). After 10 minutes the alarm shuts off, we find the phone and make the needed calls. After about 45 minutes, a very nice policeman arrives. And, after that, we slowly move in, open all the windows, let the light in, and learn that we're in a beautiful cabin. It was better than their descriptions said. A large deck among the sugar pines hangs over a small lake. Everything works as far as we could tell. Everything's nice and clean. New shower. Old stove and fridge with freezer - both working fine. The place feels rustic and after the alarm we were reluctant to settle in but were very, very happy once we did. They do nickle-and-dime you, though I guess that's normal now. There were 2 of us for 3 days. We paid $100 for cleaning but still were required to bring our own linens, do the garbage, replace any TP and other paper products we used, make the beds and make sure everything was EXACTLY like we found it!
Kerri M. from Spreckels, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2012 We love this cabin. The sunsets off the back deck are spectacular. The dock is well shaded if you do not want too much sun or you can hop on a raft and float out a bit in the lake to get more sun. We look forward to our stay at this cabin every year.
20+ years at the Arce Lake House! We keep coming back!!
A guest from San Francisco, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in June, 2012 We love the Arce Lake House! - (just wish there were one more private sleeping space. . ) Please thank he Arces for the new screen doors! and Thanks to THVR for phone replacement. Dan and Susan Eesley
A guest from Tiburon, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 Love the location, but the cabin needs updating. There is a sewer-like smell in the kitchen. The carpeted bathrooms are not ideal for a vacation rental.
Kerri M. from Spreckels, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2011 We completely enjoyed our stay at Lakeview 103. While there were some areas of the cabin that were in need of repair or a good scrub down, we were rather expecting that from the age of the cabin. The cabin was well stocked and you can't beat the location. The property managers are so nice and helpful. We can't wait for next year!!
Thank you! for this invitation to provide feedback!
A guest from San Francisco, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in June, 2011 Dear THVR, some points which need improvement at the dear Arce Cottage - our "home away from home" in TH: wood picnic table & benches are on their "last legs"; rt rear burner on stove has not worked for 5 yrs at least, which may account for slight constant propane odor; mattresses on trundle bed in rear dwnst room are very poor; acc to family members, the same since mid-80's; the kitchen floor is usually not clean; vacuumed, yes; clean, no. . . Dan replaced missing clothespins and bag, and broken paper towel roll holder in Kitchen; BRAVO! Dan! Dan LOVES the cottage!! I laundered the very soiled kitchen rug and cleaned kitchen floor; Dan also laboriously and patiently cleaned plant debris from btwn deck boards and dock boards. THANK YOU! for prompt repairs on laundry machines!! Not your responsibility, but perhaps you'd have some influence: BAD WEED GROWTH IN THE LAKE! impossible to swim from "our" dock - which is our central attraction at the Arce Cottage! Inquiries gave the impression that Lake mgmnt was asleep on this matter, and ordered abatement too late. Could you raise this concern with the Lake Assn Board? We will also write about this disappointing condition. I learned that Doug Coke, () Pres of the Sugar Pine Lake Assn, has succeeded in keeping that lake clear, following Fish & Game staff recommendations. . . How about THLake consulting Doug Coke? WE DEFINITELY WISH TO RESERVE FOR THE SAME TIME PERIOD IN 2012! Please confirm by email that you have our 2012 reservation! Thank You! for this opportunity to comment on our stay this year! Dan and Susan Eesley
A guest from Lafayette, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2011 Once again, we had a fabulous time in the beautiful cabin on the lake! The location right on the lake and having your very own dock, make it all the more special. It's such a privilege to get to use it every year! Already looking forward to next year!
