Great Location - We stayed at Mark Twain 33. It was a short, pleasant walk into town, and a short drive to the Lake. A guest from Millbrae, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2011 The house and yard were in good condition, with a few minor exceptions: the hood over the stove didn't work, the coffee maker didn't drip properly, there was no corkscrew, one of the sofa's was very lumpy and uncomfortable, and there were some creaking noises in the upstairs of the house at night. Other than this, everything was well maintained, well stocked and working, and the beds were comfortable. We were pleased overall, and especially appreciated that the enclosed yard was secure for our dog. |

Stayed for 5 days in June, 2011 Cabin is furnished with old, hand me down furniture. Bedspreads were dirty. Broken fan was a fire hazard. Kitchen is stocked with the cheapest assortment of utensils, pans, etc. There is no pride or desire to make the the cabin a place visitors would want to return to. The upstairs addition of two bedrooms was done as cheaply as possible. The back yard is well fenced and is safe for a dog. The property manager does not seem to have any quality standards for which homes she will rent out. Our family loves Twain Harte and will return to the town again, but NOT to this cabin or to this rental agency. |

Stayed for 4 days in February, 2011 Very disappointed in the cable channels--for a few dollars more a month, more kid-friendly channels would have been available. Like the lockbox convenience. Would be easier to find stuff in the kitchen if some of the many duplicates were removed. Downstairs shower head lousy. Fix door rod in upstairs bedroom. Sliding glass door very hard to slide open/closed. |

The kitchen well equipped - need to bring wine opener though.. The interior is charming, interesting books.Could be much perfect with bigger beds on the rooms on the first floor. And the need to bring linens and towels is a bit of a down grade.Other than that all worked fine and we had a great 3 days stay! |

Disappointing Cabin A guest from Alameda, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in February, 2010 Arrived at 10:00 pm having informed the agency we'd be late to receive a difficult to read in the dark forest service map and no directions to the cabin. The cabin was dark and cold on arrival;not even a porch light on to light the way up the uneven path and steep staircase to the front door. Inside many of the lights were burned out and there were no spare light bulbs to be found. The main sofa was hard as a rock. The kitchen was poorly equipped-no wine opener, dull knives, a poorly functioning coffee maker, no dish towels to dry dishes, no bath mat in the bathroom or even a rubber mat in the tub so showering was scary. Carpets not very clean in the main bedroom. Very limited television reception,no movies available and no games in the house that we could see. Overall, just no up to the standards we're used to. The agency was closed for the holiday weekend and evidently did not want to be called as they included a note in the envelope that said "don't call us if the electricity goes out" which kind of indicates they don't want to be bothered. Property Manager Response: Response from Twain Harte Vacation Rentals The map we provided is not a Forest Service map - it is an enlarged version from the map of the area. We apologize if the porch light was not on at arrival - that is standard procedure for our housekeeping staff when they open the cabin for you. Last time I was there, there was a supply of dish towels (which I had washed myself) - not sure where they might have ended up ... This unit is advertised as having basic cable TV and is not listed as having a video library. We do expect our guests to call us if they have any issues with the cabin. The only reason the special note is in the packet regarding electricity is that there really ISN'T anything we can do about PG&E outages. The note posted on the cabin refrigerator encourages guests to call us if anything is awry. We would gladly have brought over light bulbs. Not sure what you mean about the coffeemaker being "poorly functioning", but would appreciate a little more info on that. |

The cabin was fine except needed to update the sofa bed and make it usable. Other than that it was fine and in a good location. Angel H. from Belmont, California recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2009 I put our comments in the envelope when I returned the keys on Sunday. I was pleased with the location of the home but we could not use the brown fold out sofa bed in the livingroom. The mattress was filthy, even had screws and dirt on top when unfolded. It was unusable and looks like it hadn't been open in years? I don't want to be blamed for the filth. You rented a unit for sleeping 12 but we had to have to of our party sleep on the floor, which in fact that rug was also filthy. Two of our guests had no sleeping. I think we should be compensated somehow for this situation when returning our cleaning deposits. I would rent this facility again if these things were improved. The pots under the stove had black sludge as though someone put them away still wet. The upstairs had no vetilation and was extremely uncomfortable at night. |
