The Alsup House at Jamaica Beach
A guest from Alvin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2016 It was an overall wonderful experience. After a little difficulty finding the house (neighbors in community were friendly and helpful with directions) due to some Google maps misdirection, check-in and check-out was a breeze. The beach house is quaint, cool (A/C worked great with the 100 deg. heat index) and has an amazing amount of open entertainment and deck space. The breeze off the Gulf in the afternoon and early mornings was magical, especially considering the hot tempt.s. The location of the house is perfect; just close enough to the beach for wonderful views and people watching, but far enough away for peace and privacy. While the property could use a little TLC (paint patch and deck renovations) it feels lived-in, but in a very positive way and exceeded all our needs. The only disappointment was the BBQ pit, that was literally on its last leg, causing us to rely on the stove and indoor cooking when we had planned to cook outdoors all weekend. The kitchen was fully stocked with the necessary utensils though which made it possible and kept us fed. I highly recommend the Alsup House, just bring your own pit.
Sam C. from Sunnyvale, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2016 We have rented this home for several years and have been very pleased with the location and the house. Any issues are taken care of in a timely manner.
Reviewed by: Stephen F. recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2015 Recent stay, everything worked but description indicated there was easy acces to a community pool. In reality, there was access to a municipal pool that you had to drive to and cost was $5 per person.
James G. from Kilgore, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2015 the house was clean and almost no defects the deck had a few spots we had to keep the kids away from but, other than that it was fine. the house has a good view of the gulf and a fine breeze most of the time.we had a great time and hope to rent it next year.
Reviewed by: Peter S. does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2015 I have hesitated to bother writing a review because I am sure The House Company (THC) won't post it, but here goes: our house was OK. Pretty much as described but THC performance was awful. They did not respond to my email the first morning until after I called them a week later and then they Didn't respond to my follow up email. I will NEVER rent with THC again and encourage you to think twice unless you want a totally unresponsive property manager.
Kenny S. from Arlington, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2014 We had a great family vacation. The Alsup house was nice, clean, with a large living area open to the kitchen. We had 8 people staying there and there was plenty room, seating, and good sleeping arrangements. And just a short walk to the beach. We like the far west end of Galveston away from the touristy areas and crowded beaches, but close enough to drive in for shopping. The only thing missing for us was outdoor storage to put our beach chairs, shade tents, coolers. There was a small storage room outside but it was locked, as were the pantry in the kitchen and the closet in the room with the bunk beds. Made for a little bit of clutter.
Camilla L. from Beeville, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2014 The house was in a good location to walk to the beach and the drive to Galveston was about 15 minutes. The house met our needs. It was a little dirty when we got there. Not sure what was on the floor but it was more than sand. The master bedroom was a good size room unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable. Needs a new mattress. One of the smaller room's closet was locked and could not be used for storage. This caused a problem with luggage having to be piled up in the corner. The kitchen was fully stocked for dining and cooking. Unfortunately the TV box in the living room went out on the third day we were there and was not repaired while we were there. The outdoor shower was useful for cleaning up after the day at the beach. My whole family sat out on the deck each night and visited till late in the evening. We enjoyed our stay and we will probably vacation at Jamaica Beach next summer.
A guest from Sunnyvale, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2014 Overall, enjoyed it very much. 2nd year to rent this house. Reported left side sliding door very hard to open and close.Repairman did come look at it but had to order new rollers.Reported house does move slightly from side to side. Repairman for door said it may be anchor bolts but also that some of the pier type homes were built with some free motion to try to prevent hurricane damage in the event of a hurricane. My family enjoys this house and location very much.
A guest from Baltimore, Maryland recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2014 Had a great time at the Aslup House. The house was equipped with everything you needed. The location was perfect for us. Private area instead of in the hussle and bussle of touristy Galveston.... Even the neighbors were extremely nice.

My family would stay at the Allsup house again for another occasion

chris b. from kingwood, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2014 unit was just as advertised. Had a brief issue with a toilet handle and a maintenance had it solved within an hour
Donald S. from Harker Heights, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2013 Great location. Short walk to the beach. Lots of local places to eat and buy supplies. I missed my gas grill but the little charcoal one did the job. This house has everything you need and fit the whole family great. Outside shower and 2 bathrooms is a must with a big group of people. Only 10 minutes from the Seawall but miles away from the big crowds. We will be coming back for sure.
Debra W. from Forney, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2013 The house was perfect for what we needed. It was very well supplied with everything and plenty of space. We hope to make this a yearly vacation.
Reviewed by: A guest recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2013 My family and I enjoyed our stay. The house was nice and clean and close to the beach. Only thing we didn't understand is why we had to bring our own toilet paper. For the price we paid that should have been included. Overall it was nice and the grandkids had fun.
A guest from Houston, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2013 Had a great family get together at the Alsup House, the beds were comfortable. Weather was cloudy so it was not too hot on the beach. Great location, I would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet time away from the city.
Reviewed by: Marie R. recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2013 Everything was great! No problems with hot water at all. Just one complaint, we really enjoy having an outdoor shower, but had to put the hose in to get COLD water. The cold water knob is broken.
A guest from Sunnyvale, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in August, 2012 Great stay. First time we had ever rented a house in 58 years of going to Galveston. We will definitely do it again! We usually stay in a motel or take our rv. Loved the Allsup house.
Hanh P. from Conroe, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2012 Pros: great location, quick stroll to the beach, outside shower, spacious living/dining room, lots of windows, spacious deck, adequate sleeping space, washer/dryer on premiseCons: refrigerator was not operating properly (milk was about room temperature to the touch), barbeque grill was old, rusty & non-usable, more than half the pillows were filthy & stained, lint filter in dryer was torn, can opener was extremely rusty, cable & wi-fi was difficult to access, and at arrival, there was garbage left outside the garbage receptacle.Last but not least, service was lacking. When we called to report that the fridge was not working properly, the rep suggested that it was because we "filled it up with food" & turned up the temperature. In other words, she implied that it was our fault that the fridge was not cooling as it should. Rep advised that she could send a technician to look at the fridge but the tech would have to unplug the fridge for up to an hour. Obviously, we declined to have the technician come out. We took lots of photos and a video for documentation if needed in the future.
Caroline Y. from Midlothian, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2012 Our overall stay was very enjoyable. The location and amentities around were great. Getting to sit on the balcony listening and watching the ocean was fantastic. Their was plenty of room for all 10 of our guest.
Dorothy D. from San Antonio, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2012 The Alsup House in Jamaica Beach is a very nice home in a nice location second row from the Gulf. Took the whole family (kids, grand kids) a dear cousin and even the family dog. Enjoyed the deck and beach walks. Nice easy drive to the heart of Seawall and the Strand too! Clean home with plenty of room. Would recommend it to anyone!
Lisa R. from Humble, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2012 This is a great house to stay in and would rent again. Sleeping space is plentiful, the kitchen has all that u need, except pantry space, this is locked by the home owners. Also don't forget your toilet paper. Overall, this house is clean with a great view. We felt very safe as it seemed there is 24 hour patrol in the area.
We hope to use our "southern escape" again in the future.
A guest from Mahomet, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 46 days in January, 2012 Our six weeks at the Alsop house this year was about the same as the previous 4-5 winter months. The house is generally in good shape having been repainted and new floors after the hurricane 2-3 years ago. It's located in the second row of beach houses in Jamaica Beach, about 10 mi south of the city of Galveston. The only negative regarding the house is the relatively poor lighting in the kitchen and living room. We have brought floor lamps with us for comfortable reading in the living room. The cable TV system offered has several hundred stations, quite sufficient for a variety of viewing. The House Company has been very accommodating when problems have popped up during our past stays. Galveston is an interesting town, with over 100 yrs history, some rather spectacular. The 1900 hurricane is well documented in the city as well as explaining the method used to raise the level of much of the northern island some 30 feet after the 1900 hurricane. Of course, there is great availability of sea food, fresh and in restaurants. We've been surprised that relatively few tourists are about the city during winter months. The winter climate is not generally "hot" by any stretch of the imagination, but is 20-30 degrees warmer than any northern US state, which is a real plus. The typical coastal weather, i.e., fog and cloud cover and showers, is there and offfers a different variety not generally experienced in more continental sites. We hope to use our "southern escape" again in the future.
A guest from Plano, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 12 days in July, 2011 My family stayed in Alsup House for 12 daysin July. We were very happy with the location, its proximity to the beach and to shops and restaurants was great.
A guest from Jacksonville, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2011 We enjoyed our stay at the alsup house, the location was a little far out from the main city but peaceful and less crowded, the front door was frustrating very hard to open and close kept sticking so we used the other door, the umbrella on the deck was broken, the dishwasher was broken and when i tried to wash the dishes water leaked out all over the floor plus there was no dishwashing liquid. But the beach was great and beautiful even with the heavy winds and rain. we will keep vacation rental homes with this company in mind for our next vacation but i have to say making guests supply their own toilet paper and paper towels seems a bit rude and cheap.
Over all a good stay. A few problems: dishwasher was not working, coffee maker did not work, light bulbs in both bathrooms out,
Robert H. from Allen, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2011 I know it is a vacation rental and did not expect perfection but these things are simple fixes, for the price per week I expected better. Other than that it was good......
A guest from Garland, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2011 It was a good location. Easy to find and great view. Just need some minor changes to the house. It is a decent property.
A guest from Houston, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2010 Yes, we had a great stay. However, we took our own linen?all sheets and towels but were charged for the linen. We stripped the beds initially and neatly folded all sheets and stacked them with the unused towels in the Master and the other two bedrooms. Please make sure that I receive a credit for the linen charge
Sheena P. from Carrollton, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in May, 2010 Although I liked the house and location, and the staff were very friendly, the number of mosquitos really took away our joy. We were bothered and bitten countless times,at all times of day and night. No bug sprays nor foggers made a difference. Something has to be done about the number of mosquitos in the area. Also, I woke up one morning to find a large cockroach in my glass beside my bed. It shocked me. Otherwise, the place would have made a dream-stay. If these 2 elements are addressed, in would be paradise.
Susan R. from Houston, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2009 Not real keen on the back yard so close to retail stip center and folks walking thru the property to the beach.A/c is not enough tonage for the size home it is so it was difficult to keep cool. Did not see the part about needed to bring soap, toilet paper dishwashing soap in advance of my stay.
A guest from Richmond, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2008 Great location (close to beach) and very spacious. But upper bunk beds are not suitable for children (no safety rail or working ladders). No lamp in kids bunkroom. King beds are very old and squeaky. Kitchen needs inventory - few matching pans with lids. Lots of flatware - enough for a banquet!
Betty W. from Mahomet, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 60 days in February, 2008 Wonderful stay in Feb/Mar 2008, particularly coming from wintery Illiois. Somewhat surprised that more 'northerners' weren't enjoying Galveston's weather, culture, history and seafood. House Co staff most helpful. House in good shape, sufficient for 6 people, close to good Gulf beach, 15 min to Galveston and 1 hr to Houston.
