The name of our apartment comes after one of the trees surrounding the building, a luxuriant medlar (“nespolo”) the branches and the leaves of which, together with the many plants in the garden, endow our guests with a very pleasant atmosphere made of green, flowers and sweet fruits in season. We are happy to share with you this ideal situation which, we believe, will grant you a memorable stay in Bologna, the friendliest, most hospitable city in Italy.
The house is situated in one of the classiest residential areas of Bologna, the foot of its beautiful hills. It is an extremely quiet, deep-in-the-green area, far from the chaos of the center yet very close and connected to it by the efficient, inexpensive public transportation system (stops nearby). Shops and stores, restaurants, pizzerias and trattorias, ice cream parlors, the largest park in town (pond, tennis court, great for the kids) and a great public swimming pool are walking distance. Together with all those on-site amenities, this excellent location makes of Il Nespolo the ideal headquarters for those willing to comfortably spend time in Bologna for leisure, tourism, business, etc.. As well as the historical center (Piazza Maggiore is no more than 15 minutes), the fairground is easily reachable and so are the University, the railroad station and all the other hot spots in this world-renowned capital of gourmet food, fashion and culture.
The apartment – a true jewel of quality and class – is without any doubt one of the most prestigious rentals in Bologna. Bright, roomy, extremely clean, completely refurbished in May-June 2010 and furnished both with antiques and top-quality crafts, Il Nespolo has everything is needed for a very pleasant stay – from a dishwasher to a washing machine, a microwave oven, a wide, modern, efficient kitchen featuring all the possible accessories and appliances, a tv set, etc.. The whole apartment is air conditioned and wi-fi internet connected. All the decoration, furnishing, linen, etc. have been selected among the best available objects with plenty of love and zest, your comfort and pleasure of living in mind.
Il Nespolo can host up to 6 guests in two bedrooms with two single beds each that can be put together to form a queen-size, a large living-dining room featuring two single sofabeds and a couch, a very functional, clean bathroom with a shower, a wide kitchen, a spacious hallway and a small storage room. The garden surrounding the house is accessible and the apartment – a ground floor – is suitable for wheelchairs and all different needs. Peace of mind is guaranteed by a sturdy anti-intrusion door and windows. Quiet, silence and relax are total at every time of the day. Free, safe on-street parking is available right at the door.
What else could you expect? We look forward to having you with us soon!
"Each morning as we left the appartment in Bologna we were caressed by a perfumed May air. Il Nespolo was roomy and comfortable. The furniture was built to last 500 years. The colonnades of Bologna make it a distinguished city. Bologna is a railway hub - and ideal base for visiting Tuscany and the Emilia Romagna and Venice. The earthquake, though unfortunate for some was but a gent le shaking in Bologna and made the visit memorable." (Sean L., Ireland)
(Angela Z., Canada)
"Working this winter in Bologna, we spent about 5 weeks at Roberta's comfortable, roomy, well decorated and furnished apartment and we never became homesick! The area is calm and beautiful, the centre of the city is easy reachable by bus and there are plenty of shopping possibilities around. Writing this comment, we want to thank Roberta again for taking a good care about us and warmly recommend her apartment to everyone, who is looking for a good, friendly place to stay in Bologna." (Elena & Vitalj P., Germany)
"We were really pleased with the central location and quality of the apartment. Very easy to get around and great local shop across the road for provisions. Everything worked really well and a big thanks to Roberta for making our stay in Bologna so pleasant." (Liam N., Ireland)
"Apartment had everything we needed. Neighbourhood was nice and safe." (Francoise M., Canada)
"I would highly recommend this lovely, spacious, and airy apartment, which is surrounded by beautiful trees and in one of the best neighbourhoods in Bologna. The neighbourhood is well treed, safe, and quiet. The apartment is well laid out, with a lovely entrance hall, comfortable living room, well equipped kitchen, and two nice sized bedrooms. The bathroom is modern and immaculate and includes a tiled shower stall and washing machine. The decor is modern and fresh, and the entire apartment is extremely well maintained. One feels immediately at home. There is a pool nearby, as well as a terrific supermarket, and many wonderful shops and cafes. The apartment is near the lovely Giardini Margherita and it is a short 20-30 minute walk to the historic centre of Bologna. The owner, Roberta, is friendly, helpful, and efficient. I would recommend Il Nespolo for families as well as business travelers." (Erin C., Canada)
"This is a great, beautiful, very confortable, elegant apartment. The location is fantastic, you are deep in the green yet a stone's throw from the center. Quiet and cozy, very clean. Kind owners. Definitely worth a visit." (Carlos De Souza, Brazil)
"This flat is in a pleasant area just outside the centre of Bologna, on bus routes going both to the Fiera (30 mins) and also to the centre (20 mins), and was provided flexible accommodation for the number of people who stayed there at various times, except for the table, which really wasn't big enough for 6. It was easy to contact the owner, and small difficulties were easily resolved. It was comfortable and had everything we needed. We were very impressed by the little shop,a mini-delicatessen, over the road, which stocks an amazing variety of delicious food, and is run by two very helpful and charming brothers - real characters. We managed to communicate with their English and our Italian. We ate twice at a small restaurant, Antica Trattoria del Ragno, on Via Murri, only a five minute walk, which served excellent traditional Bolognese fare, and is highly rated by Italians" (Clive B., UK)
"Occasione eccellente, l'affitto turistico ideale. C'è eleganza, comfort, pulizia e la posizione è strategica. Assolutamente consigliato". (Franco Cena, Padova, Italy)
"Unbelievably clean and classy rental, great owners, top comfort. Perfectly stocked. Strategically situated (stay away from the center when in Bologna - too busy, noisy, dirty). Perfect if you like to cook - everything is provided in the kitchen. The garden is small but nice. We (a family of 5) spent one week here and found Il Nespolo a great value for our money. Thanks Roberta! Ciao." (Rob Hinemann, Adelaide, Australia)
"Beautiful, clean, brand new, cozy, peaceful deep-in-the-green apartment located in a very nice residential area. Great quality-price ratio, extremely kind owners, perfect for a small family or couples. Good connections with the center. A must." (Gloria P., USA)
"We've stayed at Il Nespolo for a week, and have been very satisfied. The apartment is spacious, very clean, and exceptionally well-equipped. (Wonderful to have wi-fi too.) t's in a quiet, leafy part of town. Our first impression was that we were some distance from the centre, but the #13 bus provides a quick, direct way of getting there. Overall, we would highly recommend a stay in this gracious place." (Georgie & Jeremy, Victoria, BC, Canada)
"We wanted a Flat in Bologna, not in the busy Centre, but in a good suberb on the edge of the City, to spend 4 weeks immersing ourselves in Italian life to improve our language skills. The Apartment was airconditioned, ample in size for our needs, clean, and very quiet, but close to Buses (#16, #13) to take us to and from the Centre. A full range of Supermarkets, Trattorias, and Salumerias were within easy walking. Strongly recommended." (Reg & Margaret Miller, Australia)
"We've had a very pleasant stay and the apartment was great for the three of us and had everything we needed for our holiday in Bologna. I would eagerly recommend it to anyone who would like to visit the Emilia-Romagna region. After a touring day you will find the necessary relax at Il Nespolo property. Quietness and comfort." (Alberto F., Spain)
"My partner and I stayed at this property for 8 nights and thoroughly enjoyed this apartment. It was extremely clean and neat with just about everything you need. The kitchen is fully equipped with upscale appliances. If you like to cook, as we do, then this apartment is perfect. We arrived on a Sunday when most supermarkets and stores are closed. It was very nice that Roberta left a nice variety of food items including pasta so that we were able to prepare dinner without going to the store. She also had a few items for breakfast which made our first day of arrival easier. The first couple of days we walked to the city center which takes 20 - 30 minutes and then started using the bus which has a stop very close by. Bus #13 goes all the way to the city center and makes it very easy to get there. There are trattorias close by and a wonderful salumeria across the street from the apartment. I was most impressed with the cleanliness and the fast responses from Roberta with any questions that we had. Thanks, Roberta for making our stay in Bologna wonderful. You are a wonderful hostess. We would definitely stay here again." (Mike K., USA)
"We spent a terrific week in Nespolo: the walk (15 min) into the heart of Bologna was very convenient, the apartment had everything we needed, including plenty of space, parking was outside the door and easy, and the surrounding (peaceful) neighborhood was pleasant. We had a warm welcome, with plenty of local suggesions. The apartment was quite clean and pleasant and well maintained. We liked walking in the Giardini Margherita, a lovely city park, a short walk away, and a wonderful neighborhood place, Antica Trattoria Sterlino, for dinner, only a few minutes walk on Via Augusto. We spent every day in Bologna (many wonders to see, museums, buildings) and one day trip to Parma (delicioso!). We highly recommend this apartment and the city. And don't miss seeing the meridian in San Petronio!" (Marjoire C., USA)
"This was an amazing find. We've rented apartments in many cities (much prefer them to hotels in Europe). The pictures and description that Roberta has on the site are spot on. It's just bigger than it looks in the pictures. Roberta met us at the apartment to make sure we understood how everything worked. She also has the manuals for the appliances which came in handy when we used the oven. This seemed like a new construction with bigger rooms, a fully equipped kitchen with stove, oven top, big refrigerator/freezer, press coffee maker (much appreciated by Americans a little weary of expressos), pots & pans, etc. Both bedrooms were large and comfortable. Flat screen TV and large couches made relaxing easy. It's a couple block walk downhill to the bus that takes you into Bologna center (cost of 1 Euro - 10 minute ride). The area had some great restaurants (had an amazing lunch at Trattoria Antica at the bottom of the hill, one block from the bus stop. Highly recommend that place. We tried to go back for dinner the last night but they were full. Reservations recommended!) Also amazing gelatarias (one place had about 50 flavors!) and pastry shops. Free parking right in front of the building was convenient too. I'd highly recommend this rental for a long weekend or a month if you wanted. It's that comfortable! Now if I could just find something this nice and this cheap in Paris!" (Roland D., USA)
"Bologna was our third stop during our two week Italian vacation. We loved the apartment because it had a lot of space: two bedrooms, a large litchen with a table and 4 chairs, and a nice living room/dining room with two couches and a 4 chair dining room table. WiFi was excellent, as was the heat! Great market across the street - the owners were really nice. As others have said, a short - and easy to figure out bus ride to town - 5 mins away. We could have walked, but it was cold. Great restaurant with really super pizza, pasta, etc... and reasonably priced with great waiters about a five minute walk away on the way to town - ate there a lot each dish better than the night before! Recommend very highly. Roberta was great - no problems with anything - oh, great shower and washer. Everything went smoothly, from the renting via e-mail, to getting together to check in, to checking out. Enjoy!" (John M., USA)
"We participated in Bologna Book Fair and stayed at Il Nespolo for 5 nights. Apartment is located in a very nice and quiet residential area. Very comfortable, cozy and fully equiped. It was a much better and cheaper stay than in a hotel. Very kind and helpful owners." (Inga G., Lithuania)
"Excellent. Beautiful apartment. Loved the little homely touches!" (Roy M., USA)
"We spent five months of a Italian sabbatical in this apartment. This was by far the best rental we had in all of Italy. It is close to the center of Bologna and I got to travel through the beautiful center of Bologna by bus every day to work. The place was very clean, very comfortable, reasonably priced and also close to Margarita Park to which we could walk with our young daughter. Roberta the landlady was very friendly and helpful. If available I would always stay here if visiting Bologna." (John and Naila, San Diego, USA)
"Il Nespolo is a fantastic apartment in a terrific, safe, and elegant neighbourhood in Bologna. I would highly recommend this apartment for families, and for business travelers. The apartment is spacious and well equipped. It is well maintained, bright, spacious, and airy. There are excellent shops, restaurants and supermarkets nearby. It is close to transportation and a short walk to a beautiful park and the historic centre. The owner is delightful and very helpful." (Erin C., Canada)
"I would highly recommend this lovely, spacious, and airy apartment, which is surrounded by beautiful trees and in one of the best neighborhoods in Bologna. The neighborhood is well treed, safe, and quiet. The apartment is well laid out, with a lovely entrance hall, comfortable living room, well equipped kitchen, and two nice sized bedrooms. The bathroom is modern and immaculate and includes a tiled shower stall and washing machine. The decor is modern and fresh, and the entire apartment feels is well maintained. One feels immediately at home. There is a public pool nearby, as well as a terrific supermarket, and many wonderful shops and cafes. The apartment is near a great park and it is a short 20-30 minute walk to the historic centre of Bologna. The owner is friendly, helpful, and efficient. I would recommend Il Nespolo for families as well as business travelers." (Campbell E., Canada)
"We (a party of three) spent three days at Il Nespolo in Bologna. The apartment was exactly as represented, probably one of the highest concerns that many people have in renting a property. The apartment is modern, spacious, and has all the amenities that you'd want. Add in the FREE wi-fi, the location in a nice neighborhood, and local bars and restaurants a few blocks away, and it was a perfect stay. Roberta, the owner, was kind in providing a few little snacks for arrival (fruit, crackers) and had some other information available for us. Although the property is not in town, we got around without a rental car. We much prefer being away from the noise of a downtown area. The historic center is a short walk away (we like to walk) or catch the local bus for 1 Euro. One day we caught the train to Venice (a little over an hour on the Express), so it's also well situated for day trips. If I was returning to Bologna, I would look for anywhere else - I'd definitely stay here again!" (Mary Jo M., USA)
"We spent 10 lovely days in hot and sunny Bologna. Roberta was the perfect host and it was welcoming to have fruit, pasta, etc. to tide us over at the beginning. We soon found the little shop opposite which was great for breakfast items and then we discovered a "Co-op" in Goivanni Dagnini, just a short walk away. We loved the local swimming pool and used it several times and adored visiting Venice,Florence and Verona. All in all, we loved being Italy and have some wonderful memories ~ thank you Roberta and family for being so attentive to us." (Delia M., UK)
"We (a family of 4) had a lovely stay in Bologna for 10 days in October. We arrived around midnight on a Saturday night and were promptly met at the apartment by Roberta. She quickly showed us around and showed us where everything was, first impressions were good as the apartment was nice and clean and well decorated. As mentioned previously, most shops are closed on Sunday so we were glad of the supplied provisions of water, tea/coffe , milk , fruit to get us started. Soon found the local pasticceria just on the main road which seemed to be busy from first thing morning to evening, was great for breakfast treats, especially the “ciambella”. We walked into the city centre and on the way found the Giardini Margherita which was a lovely place to relax and look around. It’s a good 25-30 minute walk into the city and after the first day we took the bus using a “Citypass” for convenience which was much better although can be interesting when busy. The apartment was very spacious and stayed cool despite warm weather. The kitchen had all we needed and there is a small deli type shop across the road which was convenient for fresh bread in the morning as well has having much more. The well stocked co-op supermarket was a short walk away and also had some good local stores on the way. Bologna was lovely, especially the food , and a good base to explore other places which we did taking the train which was fairly easy. Again the train station was easily reached by bus as public transport is good. The apartment was relaxing and comfortable and we felt safe at all times. It had many comforts of home and was far more enjoyable than staying in a hotel. Roberta was on hand to assist and help whenever we needed and this was much appreciated, even arranging a taxi for us to take us to the airport. I hope we get a chance to return and if so we would be happy to stay at Roberta’s apartment." (Carol T., Scotland)
