BEAUTIFUL PALM ISLAND, NOT SO GOOD VILLA
Cynthia F. from Miami, FL does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2016 This is our 8th stay visit at Palm Island. Its always a pleasureable and delightful stay and experience. This time was not so great. We killed inside the villa 5 active huge roaches. 5! That is unacceptable. The villa was in poor quality not worth what we paid. I rather spend $300 or so for the Deluxe model which we will do next year. Some areas of the walls has water damage, peels, kitchen looks run down and old/ugly. Bathroom shower walls has cracks. But we can live with the cosmetics; but cetainly not with the roaches walking around on the kitchen counter tops inches longs. I will stay away from unit 3113. Aside from all that, staff was very friendly with excellent hospitality. The pools were clean, Barbeque area, beaches were beautiful and all the amentities. The villa, we made the best of it.Our family are true fans and love Palm Island.
A guest from Arlington, TN does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2016 Although we enjoyed being close to the beach and pool, the room was subpar. Decor and appliances were very outdated, large roaches, scratchy and uncomfortable extra blankets/pillows, the icemaker hardly worked (we bought a bag from Coconuts for a reasonable price)and the worst part was the couch. We specifically asked for a sleeper sofa as I would be sleeping on it. This was not a sleeper, but a stiff wicker couch. Needless to say I did not sleep much for the few days we stayed. The front desk told me the girl that booked my room was "very smart" and "wouldn't have made that mistake" when I informed them we were likely given the wrong room without a sleeper sofa. I won't be staying at this resort again.
Mitchell R. from Tampa, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2015 We had an amazing time at Palm island. The room was beautiful the beaches were beautiful and the people were exceptionally kind. The only problem we had was my girlfriend left with bed bug bites all over her legs and back that are still there a week later.
Deerik W. from Leland, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2015 We had a wonderful time at Palm Island Resort. The weather was warm and amazing. We very much enjoyed the beaches and shells. Had lots of fun searching for (and finding) sharks teeth on the beach. The pool was awesome and we loved the tennis center and courts there. The road, however, was dirty and dusty. The pair of tennis courts by the restaurant was sadly in need of repair. The staff and neighbors that we met were so friendly and helpful. We would enjoy visiting there again.
Great View and Location, Condo Needs Some Updating
A guest from Skaneateles, NY does not recommend this property. Stayed for 9 days in March, 2015 I've been vacationing at PI for many years and have stayed in many different units. There is nothing like this resort. The positive for this particular unit is it's location. For the smaller two bedroom floor plan, this is one of a few units that sit directly on the beach which makes for a beautiful view. The pool and grilling areas are close and nice. Being on the first floor, you have a nice walk out directly to the beach. You are a short walk from Rum Bay. The cons for this unit are all related to the inside condition. Nothing has been updated from the original build. It needs some sprucing up! The kitchen was not well stocked like we've seen in other units. The carpet was worn. The shower rods were rusty. Plaster was crumbling. Louvre doors were off the track. I will say that the beds were comfortable and the towels were in good condition. However, considering the cost of rentals on PI, I'd expect a nicer interior.
Chris H. from Longwood, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in March, 2015 Scenery beautiful, ocean front good, villa was clean, staff very helpful, porch furniture uncomfortable, kitchen lacking supplies,
Diane H. from Port Charlotte, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2014 Had a great time at palm island resort . Everything was wonderful. Only thing I could ask for was better weather but as we all know no one has control over that. I would recomand the resort to everyone .
Roger S. from Valrico, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2014 Beautiful two bedroom room with beach views. Awesome shelling on the beach. Nice bar as well. Bartender Charlie was very unprofessional and rude.
A guest from Warrensburg, MO recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2014 The two bedroom condo was just perfect for us. The location on the island was wonderful and the proximity to the beach and pool couldn't have been better. Our stay was memorable and phenomenal, as always. Palm Island is the perfect vacation spot for those who are seeking a slow, relaxing pace with few people.
Brian M. from Largo, FL does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2014 Rating system should reflect current condition of individual units.Original bathroom, kitchen cabinetry.Upper kitchen cabinet doors were broken and hardware needed to be repaired.Window treatments were hanging off wall.Stained, faded furnishings and carpeting in livingroom-dining showed excessive wear. While property management stated"you should not allow this to ruin your vacation",Although we rented a deluxe unit they did concede and only charge us for a standard unit.Overall, our last three year's accomodations at Palm Island's vacation destination has been a disappointment, compared to our previous fifteen years.
Leonard R. from Bonita Springs, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2014 Our Cruise Club stayed for two nights and were pleased with the experience. Good docking facilities, pleasant welcome and departure staff, and a splendid location. My only problem came in the villa we rented. The screen door to the beach had a broken latch and banged in the wind and one of the bathrooms had bath fixtures that were inoperative due to corrosion. We reported the problem and hopefully it has been fixed. Hard to believe the maids missed these issues.
Nikola S. from Sharon, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2014 I was AMAZED literally amazed about the entire experience. To begin, my Wife and I needed a vacation away from the every day 9 to 5 per say. So here it is and it's College Spring Break. I'm the type that considers No Room Service, "Roughing It". With availability in Marco Island and several other central to south west Florida locations, my wife Vicki finds available dates on Palm Ilsand Resort. Which I've never visited but she had been a couple times in the past but was very worried that I would not enjoy it knowing how picky I was about Hotels and their guest services as well. So here we go, to this absolutely beautiful place The Palm Island Resort. The view from the two bedroom master bedroom being a full 180 degree Gulfview. My wife knew this and the staff was very kind to accommodate our request. Once we arrived and I walked out onto the balcony it truly fealt like I was in heaven. The sun was going down you heard the sounds of the ocean and the wildlife. There were no 1000's of College Students on Spring Break running around. Nothing but NATURE, Beautiful & Peaceful Nature & US. Now this is non commercialized "Old Flofida", I Love It !!!
Mark B. from The Villages, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in January, 2014 We met a sales rep at The Villages Travel Expo and learned about Palm Island. We booked that day as we were looking for a new adventure in Florida. WOW!! What a great stay, superior resort, a great staff (even had a sightseeing boat cruise set up for us), and just an overall great weekend. We will share this with many folks in The Villages, and thank you for providing us with a wonderful experience.
Peggy B. from West Palm Beach, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2013 It was very laid back and relaxing. Only complaint was bar/restaurant closed at 8:30 or 9:00p.m. Too quiet for my sister and I.
Kim S. from Tampa, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2013 This was exactly what we needed for the end of our summer. Quiet, clean, beautiful view and no need for a schedule! Cannot wait to come back!
A guest from St. Pete, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2013 We had a great time. Only suggestion would be to add another restaurant or have the ferry come back later than 8pm. Also, would have been nice to have more grocery selections!
Pat M. from Henderson, NA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013 The condo had a few things wrong. No laundry soap. Microwave didn't rotate. Prices on food were high. NO bar in bathtub.
Edith & Marc V. from Surfside, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2013 We been here quite a few times in the past and always look forward to our return with our friends and family. Our time here, as before, was wonderful as was the weather. The unit was impeccable as was the weather. We had a great Memorial Day weekend!
Property Manager Response: Response from Palm Island Resort Edith & Marc, We love to have people come share special times at Palm Island Resort. We are always happy to hear that you found everything to your liking!! Please come see us again?anytime!
A guest from Trinity, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2013 We were able to book a 2BR with short notice and no trouble. Rates were fair. We've been staying at Palm Island since 1989. Beaches and fishing are great! Peaceful and quiet. The beachfront room we stayed in this time was showing a lot of wear and tear though. Warped cabinet doors, large gaps in the cabinets under the sinks from what appears to be past water leaks. Washer/dryer sliding door broken, hot water could not keep up with the 4 of us. We've been in much nicer units though and it looked like they're upgrading a few of them during our stay. Suggestion: tear out all the rotten particle board in kitchen and baths, install pre-fab wood cabinets from Home Depot for $1,500 and it will last for a decade. I thought of a great idea for checkout when you rent golf carts. Allow renters to leave/check out their carts where you check in for your stay. Simply have someone from Coconuts meet you there, eliminating the hassle of hitching a ride back to the parking lot. I think people would love this. We will be back soon!
A guest from St. Joseph, MI recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2012 This was our 4th stay at Palm Island resort, 5th time on the island. There were very few renters for the week following Thanksgiving. The resort appears as it did 15 years ago. The setting is unique, the grounds very well maintained. Our two bedroom unit was located where I had hoped, beachfront and less than 100 yards from the pool reserved for renters in our building group. The unit was clean, but a bit tired...older Formica counters, cupboards and drawers adequately, but sparesly appointed. These indvidually owned units are updated...or the owners with the resort setting basic standards. The first time we stayed at Palm Island resort the unit'skitchen had been updated with higher end appliances and Corian counters, special lighting...not so in the unit this stay. Those comparisons aside, Palm Island Resort delivers on grounds appearance, layout, orientation to a beautiful, six mile long beach, Gulf sunsets and laid back quiet lifestyle. If you are looking for those things in a vacation, I've been nowhere like Palm Island Florida or the Carribean.
A guest from Windermere, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in November, 2012 This was our 3rd trip to Palm Island Resort. The villa was nice and fit our group well. The weather was great for the beach and we enjoyed picking shells and sand dollars. It looks like the beach suffered damage from a storm but it didn't impact our stay. We did find a roach in the villa but it appeared to be solo and we didn't find anymore during our stay. We will return next year again for a long weekend.
A guest from Saint Petersburg, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2012 Great and relaxing vacation; however, it was not the unit I had originally booked online.management switched units and gave me upgrade but unit decor very outdated.
Cathy G. from Seminole, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2012 The grgurich family had a great time at palm island, pretty sunset's and relaxing beach. We will be coming back every year!
A guest from VALRICO, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2012 In the four years that we have visited the resort we have always enjoyed put stay. The only disappointment over the years has been the cindigo on of the rooms we have stayed in. I realize that the majority of our time is spent on the beach but it would be nice to come back to a room that is upgraded and comfortable. I think the owners of these units should be made aware of the conditions of their units and the need to invest in them to make them more appealing. We plan on coming back but would like to have the opportunity to enjoy a more upgraded unit.
Cathy K. from Alpharetta, GA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in April, 2012 Loved the location of the unit just off the beach. Tv could use updating. Our friends stayed in another unit which had a larger flat screen tv easier to view from couches. Most of our time was spent on the beach though. One rainy night we stayed in to watch tv and kids watched at night.
A guest from Columbus, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in March, 2012 Had great weather for our 11 days on the island. The housekeeping staff was great and responsive. Rum Bay is losing some of its appeal. Wait staff was not consistent on charging for drinks and refills and their are no healthy options for the kids to eat. Ran into a few palmetto cockroaches in the condo at the end of the stay and the front desk response was "well it is Florida"...Still will come back just not the same unit.
Maudel H. from Kathleen, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in January, 2012 I had been once before with my daughter and one of our friends. On this stay, I brought my husband and sister in-law and her husband - - everyone was extremely pleased. I would love it if it were possible that people that had stayed at the resort were offered special discounts to stay at the resort during the year and especially during the non-peak season.
Carolyn B. from Bellair Bluffs, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2011 The condo was in good shape, although the coffe pot went out first time (replaced within 20 minutes by resort staff) and the beds, whiel new mattresses, were hard. Foam toppers were provided by the afternoon. The staff is committed to making your stay perfect. Good stuff.
John W. from Belleair Bluffs, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in November, 2011 Spent 3 days and 2 nights in a 2-bedroom Beach Villa with my wife, sister and brother-in-law. The unit was immaculate and tastefully decorated, with beautiful views of the beach and gulf. Pool was close by. Golf cart was included in the rental. Also rented bicycles and kayaks. So, we were able to do a lot of exploring. The entire experience was fun and relaxing. Dinners at the Rum Bay restaurant were well-prepared and fairly priced. This gem is only 2 1/2 hours from home. We will be back.
Karen I. from Cape Haze, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2011 Where else can you go within the US that is so secluded and beautiful. The beaches are lovely. To see the sunsets were so serene and gave everyone a special relaxed feeling.
A guest from Riverview, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2011 We had the best short vacation in years! We decided to stay just for a couple of days, to see if we would like it... and we loved it! In our search for a great ocean front resort, we have traveled just about all the way around Florida and the Caribbean; in all, perhaps, we may have only found a couple of places we like to go back to, well we just found our new best favorite. One knows, you have found something special if days after you, still find your self day dreaming...and Palm Island is that place for us... Thanks, and see you soon!
A guest from Indianapolis, IN recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2011 If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. Natural beach beauty and a quiet low key place to vacation.
Perfect family vacation spot with kids of all ages
A guest from Zionsville, IN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2010 We discovered Palm Island Resort 20 years ago, and have visited almost is a perfect family vacation spot with kids of all ages, especially young ones. Safe environment, away from traffic and noise. Several swimming pools, hot tubs, tennis courts and clean condos with fully equipped kitchens. Long, clean, beautiful beach, good for jogging, long walks, looking for shells, or building sandcastles. Plenty of interesting birds to look at. One week of total immersion into a different world, but still close to civilisation, should you need it (if your toddler gets an ear infection, etc.) You can go home totally recharged, no need for passport.Goergous starry nights, too.
A guest from BOULDER, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in March, 2010 This vacation will be the one we always remember. It was so quaint, peaceful and just so beautiful! It is a perfect get away. Time seemed to slow down and we did not need a vacation from the vacation when we returned home. We would highly recommend this resort to everyone.
KATHY C. from ST PETE, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2010 Palm Island is one of our favorite places to go. It is so peaceful and relaxing. It is the perfect place to get away from it all.
A guest from Saint Petersburg, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2009 When we first arrived and entered the first room we were to stay in we were pleased until we outside and could hear the construction 2 buildings down. Theproperty manager was very accomodating and put us in a bigger and nicer unit. Wewould probably like to stay in that unit again. Great view of the beach and sunsets.Very relaxing and peaceful.
Property Manager Response: Response from Palm Island Resort Dear Ms. Stepp, Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to our survey. We apreciate your time. I look forward to your next visit to Palm Island. DJ Cutler, Director of Hopsitality Operations
Thomas D. from Bradenton, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2009 We've stayed at Palm Island for nearly 20 years. Always wonderful! The facility is great as well as the employees (a couple who have been there as long as we've been going).
Property Manager Response:
Dear Mr. Davi, Thank you very much for responding to our survey. We appreciate your time and we look forward to your next visit. DJ Cutler, Director of Hospitality Operations
A guest from CARROLTON, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2009 The resort surroundings and staff were wonderful. From the ferry captains to the check in staff and the grounds keepers - everyone friendly and helpful. Our particular condo was very basic. It was clean and we had new towels, however the kitchen equipment was minimal and was in need of updating. We have stayed at Palm Island before and we had family members in other condos this time - in comparison, this unit was by far in need of updating to Palm Island Resort standards and pricing equilavent. The beach chairs available were scarce and broken chairs remain on the beach.
Property Manager Response:
Dear Ms. Lane, Thank you very much for responding to our survey. When you are ready to book, please let them know that we have communicated and that we have offered you the best possible villa for your next stay. We appreciate your time and we look forward to your next visit. DJ Cutler, Director of Hospitality Operations
A guest from APOLLO BEACH, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2009 Can't get better than this! Palm Island is fantastic, but I hesitate to tell anyone about it...don't want it becoming TOO popular! Heaven on Earth.
Property Manager Response:
Dear Ms. Kirse, Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I have many guests who feel like you do.....We look forward to your next stay with us! DJ Cutler, Director of Hospitality Operations
SHEILA T. from LAWRENCEVILLE, GA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2008 the beds and pillows were extremely hard - we took turns sleeping on the sofaIn addition, the outlets in the bathroom did not work as long as the ceiling fan was on in the den area. Also, the light over the kitchen sink did not work.
CHRISTY P. from ORLANDO, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2008 Our unit had several roaches in it and really needed updating. Its a shame that there is such variation in the condition of the villas.
A guest from WINDEMERE, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2008 You have to be very careful when you stay here. Most of the units are now older and many are so incredibly worn and stinky.(they just feel dirty) We have had multiple units where the ac barely works if at all. I really wish they would change the entire bed between guests instead of just the sheets. Rooms are generally priced $250 and up which is alot of money for what you get. They need to put golf carts near check in instead of 1 mile down the road. My suggestion is either stay somewhere less expensive and cleaner or bring your own sheets. You have to know before you come across the ferry that there is one very poor restaurant on the island and you need to bring your groceries in from Publix or Walmart. We did not understand that the first trip down.
Restaurant is called Rum Bay and is good for a quick bite but very pricey. Most entres are in the $20 range and the quality is low to moderate. We are not picky people and I don't think we have ever gotten a correct order yet. My son's dinner never did come last time after sitting there for 2 hours. Luckily he wasn't that hungry.
Overall, don't be fooled by thinking you are going to get a luxury vacation here. It is very laidback which is the charm but as they continue to raise their prices those of us who put up with the less than desirable accomodations will find other places to frequent.
