Kolea 11K -- low-key luxury, paradise for families, great base for Big Island adventures

The condo was a perfect set-up for our extended family vacation. It wasn't over-the-top fancy or glitzy but casually elegant and comfortable -- homey in an upscale way. The beautiful and pleasantly quiet pool club area is a stone's throw away, and just beyond that is the path to a pretty strip of beach where there are lounge chairs set up and nice snorkeling -- good place to view sea turtles, and it was nice for our 13-year-old to be able to walk over there on his own. The Kolea condos form part of the larger Waikoloa resort complex, which includes a couple of small upscale shopping areas that are about a 10-minute walk from Kolea 11K, and while that wouldn't be big draw for most adult travelers, our 14-year-old appreciated being able to walk out there on her own to get a postcard or shop for sunglasses, etc. We didn't spend a ton of time at the resort, instead using our condo as a base for expeditions to various attractions all over the dry (west) side of the Big Island (which isn't actually all that big). But the condo was a great place to wake up in and to come home to in the late afternoon or evening, and we appreciated having the well-equipped kitchen so that we could eat in sometimes -- we found beautiful fruit at the farmer's market in Kona to have for breakfast and fabulous (and cheap!) fish at the supermarket to grill for dinner.

If you are looking for a truly relaxing, luxurious vacation condo, this is it! Everything is spectacular and the attention to detail is beyond compare, right down to the beach toys for the kiddos! We can't wait to return.

We loved this unit. It was on the ground floor and was perfect for the kids to play in the grass. The pools and path to the beach were conveniently within a very short walk. Shopping and restaurants were also nearby, within a 2-minute car trip or 10-15 minute walk. We highly recommend staying at Kolea and especially in Villa 11K or a similar unit.

We had booked this condo very last minute, and the unit had not been cleaned before arrival. The property managers took care of everything the next day, apologized, gave us a cleaning credit, and a lovely basket of Hawaiian treats. The location of these condos is fabulous and the grounds are beautiful. They are very spacious, and well appointed. I would definately stay here again.
