Nestled on a private 18-acre peninsula with sweeping views of Breen's Pond, St. George's Bay, Cape George, and the Cape George lighthouse, this darling cottage is an idyllic, inspiring retreat. Peace and quietude abound, but you're only a few minutes from the village of Havre Boucher, where you can buy fresh lobster (in season) right off the boat, ten minutes from Cape Breton with its famed Cabot Trail, Celtic Music Interpretive Center, whale watching, and Gampo Abbey, and twenty-five minutes from the delightful university town of Antigonish with its fine restaurants and shopping.
Inside you'll be greeted by a soaring, sky-lit open-truss ceiling and natural pine paneling, a glass-front woodburning stove, a unique hand-made queen-size birch four-poster bed, a kitchen with rustic shelves and counters, a full-size fridge and microwave, coffeemaker, portable cook-top and grill, and a full bath with glass-tiled counter and hand-painted ceramic sink. Sliding-glass doors offer a beautiful water view and open onto the spacious deck overlooking Breen's Pond and St. George's Bay.
Outside, you’ll be welcomed by an extraordinary array of wildflowers, wildlife, and birds that share this unspoiled place–-bald eagle, arctic tern, marsh hawk, kingfisher, and blue heron, just to name a few. The birdfeeder hanging from the cantilevered roof attracts goldfinches, titmice, black-capped chickadees, and other small birds.
In the morning, kick back and watch the mist rise on Breen's Pond or the lobster boats coming and going on St. George's Bay. In the afternoon, walk down the path to the half-mile of private waterfront where a canoe and kayak are waiting for you, or walk out to Cape Jack Beach where the swimming is excellent. In the evening, watch the glorious sunsets and lingering Celtic twilights. And at night, lie in the four-poster bed under the skylight and watch the fire in the glass-front woodburning stove, the Cape George lighthouse, and the constellations overhead.
Inside or out, it's a wonderful place to relax, create, and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds you during a Nova Scotia vacation you won't soon forget. As our guests have said many times, The Writer's Cottage truly is a magical place.
