25min from the amazing fortress city of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria's old capital; free light & sound shows are held at the fortress each evening. Nearby are numerous ancient Byzantine churches, and the famous Tryavna, Troyan & Dryanovo monasteries. At Dryanovo you can also explore the spectacular Bacho Kiro caves above the monastery. A 45 minute drive away, near the lovely city of Gabrovo, is the Ethnological village-museum 'Etara'. Etara is comprised of houses relocated stone-by-stone from different parts of the country. Here you can see the ancient way of life, and watch traditional Bulgarian crafts being carved at the watermill. Less than an hour's drive away are the ski resort of Uzana, the beautiful historic city of Lovech, with its coloured houses & covered bridge, and the mountain spa resort of Apriltsi. The house is located in the quiet, friendly village of Idilevo, 5 minutes drive from the Hemus highway that bisects Bulgaria from its capital, Sofia, to the Black Sea coast at Varna. The 2.5-3 hour drive is very easy, picturesque and enjoyable from both Varna and Sofia airports. Car hire is available for 15EUR per day - please ask for more information. The house itself is newly renovated & furnished, with air conditioning in every room. On the ground floor are a large kitchen and living room, a laundry and huge shower room. Upstairs is a south-facing balcony and three good-sized bedrooms. Each bedroom can sleep 2 people. More beds are available with prior notice (2 of the rooms could sleep up to 4 people). The garden is flat and very large, with flowers & many fruit trees. The property is surrounded by a high stone wall, so it is safe for children. The house is managed by an English-speaking couple, who provide a welcome-pack and are on-call in emergencies. Grocery shopping and tours are available by arrangement.
