Our house is ideal for families and anyone wishing to avoid the expense and bustle of resorts such as Nice or Curshevel. We are situated halfway between the Mediterranean Sea and half a dozen of Pyrenean Ski resorts. All this and a lot more can be reached within 30-50 minutes. Fence around the property. 40 kilometers from Perpignan along the pretty tree lined road with apple, peach and apricot orchards. It is located in a cul-de-sac and is very quiet. The town centre, a 10-minute stroll, has a lot of restaurants and all the necessary shops, as well as banks and ATMs, a supermarket is one and a half kilometers away. There is a large municipal swimming pool and tennis courts at a one kilometers distance. 50 kilometers to the Sea and 40 km to ski lifts with a family managed skiing resort with a ski school for children and beginners in 10 kilometers (Mosset). The skiing season starts in December and often lasts through into April. The main resorts are at Font Romeu - Pyrenees 2000 (40 pistes covering 52 km in total) and Les Angles (32 pistes covering 40 km in total). There are also ice skating facilities in Font Romeu. Swimming at any coastal resort you can choose from a large range of (45 km to the closest) or at the lake Vinca at a 10 km distance or at a water sports park in Villeneuve-de-le-Raho (40 km). Casino and nightclub in Vernet les Bains, wine making village just six kilometers away and a lot of wine related activities all around the area. Prades is a cultural town holding events and festivals throughout the year. Spanish cellist Pablo Casals fled to Prades during the Spanish civil war, stayed and established the festival that is now held each year for two weeks in July-August at Prades itself, but also in the Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa. A big and colourful market takes place on Tuesday and Saturday mornings where you can buy local produce such as the peaches and cherries that are grown in abundance here, fresh vegetables, wonderful cheeses and the excellent wine. There are cafes, brasseries and restaurants as well as a good range of shops all around the town square. The Catalan summer school takes over the town for two weeks in August, and there is dancing in the square every night. And Andorra is only a one and a half hour drive away. Places to visit Villefranche de Conflent A beautiful medieval town with complete fortified walls. There are also stalactites caves at a one km distance from the town. And the town itself is the starting point for a ride on Yellow Train, probably the number one attraction in the area. You can ride in open or closed top carriages admiring the breathtaking view from Villefranche de Confluent to Mont Louis. Abbeys at St Martin de Canigou & St Michel de Cuxa are superb examples of Romanesque architecture in beautiful locations. The 1.3 km long path to St Michel de Cuxa starts almost from the gate of the house. By the way, St Michel de Cuxa it that very place where the heroine finally kills Dracula in the best-seller by Elizabeth Kostova 'The Historian'. Tautavel Museum, believed to be the site of the oldest human in Europe, the museum and the exhibition hall have multimedia audiovisual displays. Natural reserve in Nyer - wild life of the Pyrenees preserved as it is with a lot of activities throughout summer. Spectacular panoramic views can be enjoyed in Les Lacs des Bouillouses where you can get by chair lift. The Perfume Tower in Mosset, the organ shaped mountains near Ille-sur-Tet can be reached in 15 minutes, the Solar Oven at Mont-Louis in 30 minutes by car. And also Perpignan with its Palace of the Kings of Majorca at a 40 kilometer distance, Collioure with its Royal palace overlooking one of the most beautiful ports in France, Ceret with its Modern Arts museum are well worth visiting.
