The cottage accomodation: La Conciergerie is ideal self catering holiday accomodation located in pretty countryside with surrounding forests,woodlands and sunflower fields,conveniently close to local amenities and within easy reach of the beaches along the Atlantic coast.The cottage is beside the imposing entrance gates to a charming 18th Century Charentaise Logis and overlooks a circular fountained courtyard. Renovated to a high standard, this lovely detached traditional stone cottage shares a heated swimming pool and retains lots of original features. Downstairs there is a large beamed kitchen/diner equipped with all modern conveniences including electric oven and gas hob, washing machine,dishwasher,fridge freezer and microwave. A door leads from the kitchen to a spacious sitting room with beamed ceiling and open fireplace with log burning stove,comfortably furnished with 3 sofas and equipped with a mini Hi-fi music system and satellite TV which receives English-language digital channels. There is a ground floor twin bedded room furnished with wardrobe and bedside cabinet and window overlooking the courtyard. Double French doors lead from the sitting room to a private courtyard garden and patio with tables and chairs and brick BBQ for al fresco dining. An inner hall, which provides downstairs toilet facilities,leads to a staircase up to the first floor. Upstairs there are 2 further double bedrooms furnished with wardrobes and bedside cabinets. Both bedrooms have windows overlooking the fountain in the courtyard. On the same landing is a large family shower room with toilet and wash basin and a second bathroom with wash basin and shower over a full bath.The history: A warm welcome awaits you at this beautifully restored 18th Century traditional Charantaise Logis set in 2 acres of landscaped gardens and with 2 heated swimming pools, racquet sports and family games room. Formerly a gentlemans residence with private vineyard, this charming Logis later became a working farm and now consists of a main farmhouse built in the Maison de Maitre style and four separate traditional Charentaise stone cottages available for rent as a whole,individually or in combination.The Logis is approached along a private Chestnutt tree lined avenue, offering ample shaded parking, through grand entrance gates into a fountained courtyard. The farmhouse and cottages are around the main circular courtyard and each have their own private gardens. The facilities: The swimming pool complex overlooks the south facing communal gardens where there is croquet, boule, badminton, short tennis,swings and sandpit.The farmhouse has the sole use of a heated 8 x 4 meter swimming pool with a uniform depth of 1.5m and the four cottages share a further heated 10 x 5 meter heated pool with a shallow end of 1m sloping to a 2m deep end.Both pools feature Roman steps,are enclosed with regulation fences and have large poolside terraces with ample sunloungers and parasols. The games room in the Old Grange, an open barn, provides further entertainment for all the family including table tennis,pool table,air hockey and bar football.The pool complex has a poolhouse with shower,wash basin, shower and wc and next to one of the pools is a bar where guests can buy drinks and icecreams.Gates at the end of the garden lead to woodlands and the river Boutonne. A Boulangerie,bar and restaurant and trout farm to buy fish are all within walking distance. Wi-Fi Internet access is available on site free of charge. The locality: logis de Lussais is situated in the Boutonne valley on the edge of a quaint village near the River Boutonne yet conveniently only 2km from local amenities in the rural market town of Chef-Boutonne where there are 2 supermarkets and a small number of shops, bars and restaurants. The surrounding countryside of woodlands and forests are ideal for walking and cycling or taking a picnic. The fairytale Chateau Javarzay on the edge of the town has a park and lake just perfect for a picnic or fishing. The Chateau is floodlit at night making a spectacular sight, often the focal point for village events and entertainment.The source of the River Boutonne, to which the town lends it’s name,lies deep beneath the church of Notre Dame in the ramparts of the castle in the old town. A regular open market each Saturday in the town square is an opportunity to buy the best of the local produce. The nearest Boulangerie to buy fresh bread is in Javarzay,just a few minutes in the car or a pleasant 20 min walk along a country lane beside the river. The nearest bar/restaurant at ‘Des Cannards’ with poolside terrace is a 10 min stroll from the bottom the garden and at ‘La Herroniere’ on the edge of Chef-Boutonne there is a lakeside bar & restaurant. Both offer live musical entertainment evenings durng the summer months of July & August including a live Jazz BBQ. The region: The Logis is ideally placed in the centre of the Poitou-Charentes,famous for its cognac, pineau, oysters, mussles and goats cheeses,vinegrowing countryside and spectacular sunflower fields. You are within easy reach of the Atlantic coast and the beach resorts at Royan,Chataillion le plage,Fouras,the ancient seaport of La Rochelle and the beautiful islands of Re,Oleron and Aix, some of which are suitable for surfing and water sports. The Marais Poitevin (Green Venice)is a must to visit, a marshland area of great beauty with a labyrinth of waterways linking quaint villages through wetland forests where you can go canoeing or punting.The famous theme park Futuroscope is at Poitiers and historical places of interest like Saintes,the spa town of Rochefort,Cognac famous for vineyards and the like of Hennessy and Remi Martin and the walled cathedral city of Angouleme overlooking the Charente valley are all within easy reach. There are various locations for canoeing,kayaking and dinghy sailing on sheltered lakes and along the River Charente and a variety of zoos, leisure parks, working farms and other attractions to entertain the whole family. The climate: With it's wonderful warm and sunny climate, sunflower fields and vinegrowing countryside, the Logis is ideally placed for visiting the many family attractions, historical buildings and Chateaux throughout the region.
