Approach to the cottage
|
|
The cottage has been beautifully restored to a very high standard in the traditional Andalucian style, incorporating high, wood-beamed ceilings and warm terracotta tiles. Two good sized bedrooms, both with views over the valley, a substantial living room and separate kitchen with room for dining. The delightful terrace is planted with fragrant flowers - and has wonderful views across the vinyards and tropical fruit orchards. Ideal for a young family, two couples or a group of friends. It can also be rented as a one bedroom cottage at a reduced rate - please enquire.
All rooms are tastefully decorated with quality furnishings. The living room has hand-woven rugs on the walls and floors. There is a Sony CD player and radio, a DVD player and a television that receives Spanish stations and plays video tapes. A selection of video tapes, DVDs and CDs is provided, as well as books and adult and children's games for the rare rainy day or the long summer evenings. The bathroom is tiled in traditional Spanish style with a full bathroom suite including bath, shower, sink and bidet. There is a gas hob, microwave and new, spacious fridge freezer in the kitchen. The crockery is white with traditional terracotta oven and table ware. The pure white Egyptian cotton bedlinen and cotton towels are changed weekly. Room fans are available for hot weather and heaters and a log fire for the chillier winter evenings.
Through the double doors from the kitchen/diner is the private terrace with stunning views across the hills to Mount Maroma and the Tejeda mountain range. Paved in terracotta and edged with a fragrant jasmine hedge, it has a selection of scented English (David Austin) and Spanish roses, stephanotis, moonflowers and other fragrant plants. There is a good sized paddling pool, a covered dining area with table, chairs and barbeque, a sunbench and a large portable sun umbrella.
Located off the main tourist route, Cutar has a lot of charm and is a quiet, traditional village with architecture that strongly reflects its Moorish heritage. In the shadow of the 16th Century church the white houses and small narrow streets tumble down the hillside. Because of the very mild semi-tropical climate, farmers grow mangos, avocados, citrus fruits, dates, figs, pomegranate, guava, sugar cane and the heavy, delicious Muscat grapes. The grapes are dried into raisins or made into the famous Malaga muscatel dessert wine. The village has a general store, a pharmacy, a bakery, two bars and the traditional way of Andalucian life. Banks, cash machines, supermarkets, restaurants and (in the summer) open air swimming pools can be found 5-10 minutes drive away in the neighbouring villages of El Borge, Almachar and Benamargosa. Drive 20 minutes south of the village to the small Spanish resorts of Torre del Mar and Rincon de la Victoria. Drive 30 minutes east to the attractive seaside resort of Nerja. East of Nerja, the deserted rocky coves of the small white hamlet of Maro and beyond, offer opportunities for snorkeling. Malaga itself is a wonderful town, still largely undiscovered by tourists - well worth a visit for the new Picasso Museum, the Moorish Alcazabar, the Arab baths and excellent bodegas. Traditional Fiestas take place in Cutar and nearby villages throughout the spring, summer and autumn and nature and wildlife lovers will find many delightful places to walk in the nearby hills and countryside.
