Gal getaway at Cornerstone Cottage
Cheryl B. from Reading, Pennsylvania recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2016 Three high school friends and I (class of 67) get together every year and choose a destination for a mini reunion. We come from PA, NJ, DE and NC. We chose WV this year as a midway destination and the friend from NC is from WV originally. She recommended VRBO as a site to find a rental and Cornerstone Cottage looked really good. And overall it was a good choice. It was clean, attractive, had many amenities and the rate was good, with a fourth free night. It was comfortable and well-equipped. We loved the themed bedrooms. But there were not enough dishwasher packs and Internet was very spotty. We found that to be true of most of WV. Plenty of windmills but not enough cell towers? The hot tub was relaxing, but I suggest better lighting at night. Another suggestion, a table on the deck to go with the chairs. That's about it. Overall, an enjoyable experience for the four of us. Thank you.
Kim F. from Charlotte, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2016 Loved the cabin and working w/Best of Canaan - they are awesome! Great location. Other reviews pretty spot on - no wi-fi but we actually ended up being ok not being connected all the time. Plenty of room for 5 of us to spread out. Only thing missing in kitchen is crock pot - pack one. Very generous on hot water which was great. Hot tub also awesome.
A guest from Alexandria, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2015 Group of 10 had a great stay over the holidays, despite a lack of snow on the slopes. The good news is that we were close enough to walk to the lodge and check out the conditions before gearing up. The house itself was modest, but plenty for what we needed. The yard/driveway was mostly flat, which would have been helpful had there been snow. The main room sat 9 and was large enough for everyone to hang out in, and the fireplace was a nice feature. The heat took a little figuring out, as each room has baseboard heat controlled by an independent thermostat, but it worked flawlessly. My only complaints were: a) the downstairs toilet ran (I fixed it) and leaked onto the floor (I did not fix that), and b) the back deck is in severe need of additional lighting. Several persons in my party slipped on the step into/out of the hot tub and were injured (nothing major), and one stepped through a hole in the deck where the water spigot is located, all because there was insufficient lighting. This is a safety concern, but otherwise the house was a great rental.
Tom D. from waldorf, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2015 We had a great time and really enjoyed the location for a week long family gathering. Overall we were happy, but there were a number of minor items. The cabin wasn't as close to the slopes as I thought it would be, but it was easy walking distance (maybe the equivalent of a block to block and a half). There were 10 adults all trying to use the wi-fi at times, so it was slow enough to be non-existent a lot of the time. Between rain and warm temperatures the end of December the skiing was almost non-existent, but there were enough other activities in the area to keep us busy. The state park over by Davis is well worth the trip. Very cool!
Gaurang S. from Charlotte, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2015 hello all we had a very nice and pleasant stay at this place. I can tell you that whatever you guys looking for you will get it at this location.Very well equipped house with everything nearby.loved this place and surely recommend it to all my friends. Thanks for everything
A guest from Washington, DC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2015 Overall things were good, with one significant exception. The wireless is worthless - do not plan on having any internet access (couldn't even open a webpage). But other than that, the cabin is nice, has a good layout, enjoyable hot tub, and super close to the slopes
Gail K. from Wheeling, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2015 Very clean house, and very close to the slopes. A ski in ski out house will cost double this very well maintained house. If you dont mind walking approx. 150 yards to ski, save your $$ and stay in this great house.
Reviewed by: Lisa W. recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2014 The house is in a great location and is generally clean and cozy. Replacing the mattresses and adding on a ski/mud room would be fantastic. There is no place to hang clothes or skis to dry. We enjoyed walking to Timberline ski resort and hiking around the neighborhood.
A guest from Bowersville, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2014 We had a wonderful time at this cozy cottage. The decor has a very warm touch with a beautiful fireplace. It was nice to have a room with lots of beds for all the kids and a nice size yard for them to play in. If you are looking for a whimsical, comfortable cottage that is reasonably priced than I would highly recommend booking this place.
Mark S. from Worthington, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2014 My fiancée, myself, and our four boys stayed at cabin this past weekend. It was a last minute idea we had around 2am, and by 11am (same day) we were all set. We were super impressed how quickly the agent contacted us. It was also very convient for a late night arrival. The home itself was more than we could've asked for. The perfect size for all of us...the boys enjoyed the hot tub so much we were the last to get in it. We were so pleased with all the amenities. Not many places already have laundry detergent, dishwasher tabs, and extra tp. We were so happy we replaced what we used. The cabin itself was picture perfect and extremely clean. We've already recommended it to friends and family. It was so close to local attractions. We visited Blackwater Falls, Timberline, and hunted bear in a nearby refuge. We cannot wait to come back! Thank you so much. The only recommendation I have is adding a guest joutnal for all to write in who stay.
Beth L. from Baltimore, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2014 We had a nice time in this house with our family of 8. Plenty of room for everyone to sleep. The hot tub was great. Would definitely go again. (One note: the virtual tour / mixed up the pictures of the two rooms on the second floor that each have one bed. The master bedroom with the bathroom is on the left. The canopy bed is in the back right bedroom.)
Nancy P. from Smithville, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2014 The house was very nice. The kitchen is very small but has all the items necessary to cook and serve anything. The beds were comfortable with plenty of extra pillows and blankets. The decor is a bit dated but nice. I do not believe the house is air conditioned so a summer stay may be uncomfortable. We had a good time during our stay. The property management folks couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Our thanks to them!
Theresa T. from Alexandria, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2014 The location is good, only five minute drive to Canaan Valley if you prefer to ski there instead of Timberline (which we did). House is not very big or luxurious, but we were 12 and were comfortable. Only issue we had was on the day we arrived, after a few very cold days and no guests since three days before, the water pipes were frozen. We figured this out pretty fast and the rental company sent maintenance out about an hour after we called. It was a pretty stressful afternoon trying to figure out whether they were going to be able to get the pipes thawed, and it almost came to needing to be moved (which would not have been ideal for us because they would have needed to put us in 2 different houses due to the size of our group) but the maintenance guys were persistent and finally got the water back on about 2 1/2 hrs later. We did not have any issues for the rest of the stay and were glad to be able to enjoy our vacation together. Kitchen amenities were definitely adequate for all our cooking needs, the only think I would suggest is a few more bowls as there didn't seem to be enough if everyone wanted cereal at once.
I had a wonderful stay, will definitely return again.
A guest from Easton, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2013 The house was very clean and welcoming. Great location for my family enjoyed ourselves greatly it was a nice needed getaway.
Angela S. from Charlottesville, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2013 The property was clean and the management company excellent. The kitchen was a little small though, with no pantry at all! It was odd to have to store food on the counter top that we normally would have used for a meal or snack. The bedrooms were great though. A good property if you are looking for lots of bedroom space and don't care about the small kitchen. Not luxurious but very comfortable.
