FABULOUS!! WE LOVED THE ALI'I MAKAI!!! Kim J. from Centralia, WA recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in October, 2015 We absolutely loved this property and will stay here again when we come back. I do agree with some of the other reviews as far as the air conditioning in the one back room by the rock wall as there is not a lot of air movement but we made it work. We had coffee every morning looking at the ocean, enjoyed the pool everyday, explored the Big Island and finished our day watching the sunset from the fabulous deck before heading for dinner. Thank you for an unforgettable stay!
Lovely property and beautiful view John B. from Dayton, MD recommends this property.
Stayed for 6 days in June, 2015 Family of seven stayed for 6 days in early June 2015. Very clean, relatively new, large home in nice residential neighborhood with all amenities we needed. Kitchen was well stocked with tableware, pots, pans, appliances, etc and there was a good selection of condiments. Nice pool with automatic cleaner and plenty of pool toys. It was nice that there were beach towels available for use and a washer and dryer to do laundry. The back room behind the garage needs an AC unit. There is no breeze to allow ventilation and the fan is only a token addition to the room. Be aware that turning outside lights on at night will attack bugs and you will see a few geckos roaming about (even one or two inside the house). We had one issue with the AC in the main house but the management team responded and it was quickly resolved. Location provided easy access to downtown Kona (3 miles), the airport, coffee plantations, macadamia nut farms (30 min), and volcano national park (2 hours), K-bay for snorkeling/kayaking (20 min). The binder with area activities was a good resource.

Stayed for 4 days in March, 2015 Our stay at Ali'i Makai exceeded our expectations. Views were spectacular. The kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, tupperware, cooking utensils, spices, [plates, bowls, cups], coffee-making materials, etc. (more and better amenities than the typical rental which made cooking very easy).
Beautiful vacation A guest from Nanaimo, BC recommends this property.
Stayed for 11 days in February, 2015 We had a great time despite some minor inconveniences. We were a little upset that there was no hot tub on the property. On the VRBO listing it states that there is one and that is half the reason we rented this house. The views are spectacular and it was great to have our own pool and BBQ. The set up of the house is a bit strange and will not work for everyone. There are 2 bedrooms that are not attached to the house at all, one of them is at the back of the house and quite isolated from everything. It worked out okay for us, but was not ideal.

Stayed for 4 days in May, 2014 We had a wonderful time on the Big Island and our stay at the beautiful home made it all even better. The property is amazing, the view and sunsets are incredible, 3 of the 4 bedrooms are just what we dream of, the 4th is nice but nothing like the 3 others. The property I give it 6 out of is that nice.....:)
Spectacular view of the Pacific! A guest from Roscommon, MI recommends this property.
Stayed for 15 days in November, 2013 We had a wonderful vacation and this house was lovely. Returning to our home away from home at the end of the day was always something we looked forward to. Being able to watch the area wake up in the morning and see the sensational sunsets at night while looking over the Pacific ocean around the pool area will always be treasured. Our reservation was made prior to any reviews being written and now that we've stayed at Alii Makai, we understand some of the confusion renters have with the layout of the could be very helpful to post a layout of this home with your listings. The photos are accurate, but give no indication of which bedrooms are in the main house and which are external to the house. We learned that 2 bedrooms are part of the main house and one is quite small and an ordinary bedroom with a bathroom that was not attached. The other bedroom suite and attached bath inside the main house was quite spacious. The main house has AC. A 3rd spacious bedroom suite is separate from the main house, looks out to the pool area; this unit does not have AC but the ceiling fans and breeze made it fine for us. The entertainment room as pictured appears to be a separate room, but is actually part of this bedroom. There is a 4th bedroom suite (which we did not use), referenced in previous reviews, that has ceiling fans and no AC. It is separate and against the back stone wall and has the reputation for being too hot to sleep in at night and noisy. AC would make it usable. This is a fabulous house and I would expect all details to be attended to. Other issues:1)sandy window sills that hadn't been cleaned because the shades hadn't been opened 2) we emailed ahead to see if the house had hairdryers. It didn't and two were quickly purchased 3)Information on how you'd like garbage and recycling to be handled for longer stays would be helpful. We learned on our own that recycled items need to go to one of the transfer stations. Staff was attentive.

Stayed for 7 days in September, 2013 The home was all we epected. It was very well equipped from the kitchen to the laundry room. Everything we needed was provided. Only set back was that we paid for air conditioning but the 2 tangent bedrooms did not have a/c which was very uncomfortable for the person in the back bedroom since there was no circulation at all. when you pay for a/c, it should be in all rooms. Suggestion is to place a separate a/c unit in each tangent bedroom. Other than that the home was beautiful and the sunsets were great. Thanks.

Stayed for 7 days in August, 2013 We stayed at this property Aug 12-20 loved every minute of it. The house was amazing and fit our group of 8 perfectly. We had two kids and 6 adults ranging from 3-72 and we all had a great time. The view was amazing and we enjoyed sunset nightly. We took our family Christmas pictures with the sunset as our backdrop. The house was so big that we missed the extra room on the back of the house until we were almost done with our stay. The kitchen was perfect for our family as well. The only suggestions would be to heat the pool slightly and to have a Jacuzzi. But, those are minor things and do not take away from our stay. We loved being able to wake up whenever we wanted and make our own meals vs wasting money at restaurants. The house was a short drive to the beach and not within walking distance, but that was not an issue either. We cant wait for our next trip to Hawaii and know it will be just as amazing and relaxing as or first trip. The staff was helpful and allowed us to check out later than normal which was great. Our flight wasn't until 11:00 pm so being able to check out around 6:00 was very helpful. Once again, best, most relaxing vacation ever for us. We have been to the Caribbean and stayed at all-inclusive resorts and didn't enjoy our time as much as we did here.
Kona is a fantastic location Brenda C. from Severn, Maryland recommends this property.
Stayed for 14 days in July, 2013 The house was gorgeous. Very happy with the condition of the house and the kitchen equipment was in great condition. Only complaint was that the 4th bedroom in the back of the house needs air conditioning, does not get tradewinds and a few of the nights were very hot/humid. My son had to sleep on the couch in the main house during those evenings, acceptable, but not ideal (especially for the price). The view was magnificent from the lanai and we watched the sun dip into the ocean every evening. Splendid!
Beautiful view, just needs air conditioning or fans Noel L. from Portland, OR recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in June, 2013 This house is beautiful and the view is amazing. The one thing it really needs is either air conditioning or fans for use in the rooms that are not in the main house. The two suites that are separate from the main house can get very warm, especially the suite in the back of the house. We could not even sleep in that room during our stay. if you opened up the doors during the day you were eaten by bugs at night and there is no air flow along the back. The other one opens up into the pool area with large screen doors, so that really helped. Also there is no indoor seating at a table, only bar seating. I recommend you buy mosquito coils or spray to use in the lanai area at night since that is where you will sit and eat or enjoy the sunset. It would be nice to have indoor table seating for playing games in the evening of eating inside.
Lovely Home in Kona A guest from Lake Forrest, IL recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in January, 2013 Eight of us rented this home for a week and really enjoyed our stay. The home is new, spacious and lovely. The pool was too cold for us to swim but added a nice ambience to our time relaxing on the patio. The view of the ocean was spectacular and we were able to see (with binoculars) whales from the patio. Our only issue with the house was the fact that 2 of the bedrooms are not air conditioned. That was not mentioned in the home description. It was fairly cool at night but not always as comfortable as we would have liked. There are ceiling fans everywhere which helped. One of the bedrooms is near the large AC unit for the house and, combined with the proximity to the highway, was a bit noisy at night with the windows open. Maybe minor issues...overall a very enjoyable stay.
