Gary I. from Tebbetts, Missouri recommends this property. Stayed for 29 days in February, 2016 We stayed for the month of February. We have stayed at the Hale Kai in the past in different units. This unit had been constantly occupied before we came and the management apologized for the dirty carpet (I have seen worse in another unit). They were quick to fix the security bar on the sliding door when we arrived but the holes in the screen remained and we kept those windows closed to keep the bugs out. The unit needs some remodeling to bring it up to par and the coach covers cleaned or replaced. It has a great view of the ocean and we enjoyed watching the whales and turtles from the lanai. The location is within walking distance of groceries, food, and an ABC Store. Over the years the traffic noise at night has increased, seems kids like to race down the road on their motorcycles these days which spoils the charm of the Hale Kai.

A guest from Maumee, OH does not recommend this property. Stayed for 8 days in October, 2015 I rented two condos at Hale Kai for our family to have a week together in Maui. Condo #120 was clean and beautifully decorated. Condo #220 was a huge disappointment as it was very dirty, in need of updating as the furniture was old and even the lampshade had a hole in it! The kitchen was missing needed utensils, and a decent set of pots and pans. I would never stay in this condo again unless the owners do some work to it. The saving grace was that the views were spectacular and the pool was beautiful.

Location is great, close to local market, beaches, and restaurants. Islands got hit with heat wave, so like most with no AC, bought some fans. Snorkeling gear in closet was nice surprise.

Stayed for 5 days in July, 2015 CONDO # 220: Lots of space, well equipped, spotless, incredible views from the balcony and location couldn't get any better, walking distance to markets, restaurants, right next to a local public beach and playground. We saw turtles swimming right outside of our balcony...priceless.WIFI only one line and one area of the room, the neighbours had the same issue. Needs curtains on the second floor, the sun heats up the room and makes it unbearable at the end of the day. No a/c. It looks like the condo is a good 40 years old but cozy and very clean.Great customer service by reception staff but their welcome office has to be clean and de-clutter. It gives the entire property a poor first impression.

This 3 bdrm worked out perfect for the 6 of us sharing the space. I have stayed in dozens of condo's all up and down the lower road and this is one of my favorites especially with the girls 3 & 5. This condo is not updated...we found it to be a bonus as it's kid friendly and everything works. The ocean view is amazing from the minute you enter the condo. This is a place you'd love to do the dishes or cook in because of the view. We went swimming in the pool and ocean everyday and some evenings too. We had two turtles on the rocks and one on the beach next door. My granddaughters liked the park next door. We all enjoyed the Farmers Market and Bad A$$ coffee shop. We enjoyed our stay and didn't want to leave. We also enjoyed the fresh banana's hanging for guest to pick off the branch. Thank you Valerie for your hospitality and communications prior to our stay.
John H. from Altamonte Springs, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in May, 2015 This was our third stay at Hale Kai but the first in unit #220, a 3 bedroom ocean front condo. This unit is ideal for guests requiring 3 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms, although its decor appears to be unchanged since its original decoration many years ago. The view is fantastic and we love all of the amenities of the Hale Kai property. We did have some initial problems with the condition of this unit as the Lanai shade did not work and the inside drapes were lying on the floor when we arrived. It appeared as if the windows in the living room had not been washed for quite some time, and the guest in the loft bedroom discovered some alive bugs in her bed. The tub in the shower of the downstairs bathroom was cracked and leaking into the condo below. We called this to the attention of the onsight management and they promptely dispatached a maintance man who rectified all of these problems: however, his attitude did not display the Aloha of the Hale Kai as he told the guest residing in the loft bedroom "if she didn't like the condo she could move to the Ritz Carlston. As this unit was the most expensive in the condo complex, the maintenance man did not convey a friendly Aloha welcome feeling, to say the least. Once the problems were corrected we were thereafter very satisfied. The general condition of this unit needs sprucing up as to furniture. A suggestion would be to add additional TV's so all bedrooms would be so equipped, especially for younger kids that might be sharing the twin bedroom. The location of the condo complex is ideal and overall the property is very well maintained. The onsight management are professional and helpful. Overall I would recommend this property and have already done so over the past 3 years. On our next visit we will select unit 219, a 2 bedroom,2 bath, next door, as it has always been immaculate, costs less, and we will not need 3 bedrooms next trip. We have been coming to MAUI at least once a year since 1990 and always stay in West MAUI.

The size of the condo was accommodating, however it is very outdated and no matter how much cleaning is done, it will never look clean. We did enjoy ourselves, despite the condition of the condo. We had 3 other family members staying in condo #205 which was updated. The grounds and pool area are kept up very nicely. We were too late for whales, but had several turtles among the rocks every day and enjoyed watching them. Would not recommend condo #220, Hale Kai yes.

The condo was incredibly cozy and we felt right at home as soon as we stepped in the door. Beautiful view just outside of the lanai (balcony) and we enjoyed many evenings watching the sunset and swimming in the pool. Well located, with everything within easy driving distance. Would highly recommend and hope we can come again sometime.

We had a large wedding party but she was very friendly to us all and we appreciated it. The general condition of the property was OK. Our unit #220 definitely needs a new stove. Burners didn't work, otherwise, it was a beautiful spot.

Condos # 120 and 220 Fit my family's needs perfectly.
A guest from Fairbanks, AK recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in January, 2014 While 5 family members were in Maui we were in luxury with two baths and three bedrooms. The "loft" space with a separate bathroom was especially great for my stay up super late daughter. The rest of us got a quiet nights. When we were down to three people, we moved downstairs and enjoyed walking right out our door to the pool and beach. Both of these condos were well furnished - #120 really had a good supply of pots/pans. The number of pans in #220 was good, but very basic. Condo 120 had a more updated kitchen with newer appliances and the bathroom was updated as well. #220 worked great - it was just a little older style. The management firm were fabulous to work with and made our transition from 220 down to 120 especially easy for us with the housekeepers schedule of cleaning. They really helped us out from the beginning of our reservation to our leaving day. The pool area is well kept and nice, the beach had turtles pulling out to rest on several occasions, the sunsets were beautiful the other island. We really enjoyed our stay. The off-street parking was a real plus and the closeness of the Farmer's Fresh food market and the short walk to the Fish Market were refreshing. The next door public park had open areas with tables, kids'' playground equipment and the beach area had a shallow area for toddlers to play since the coral reef there blocked most waves. Totally enjoyed our stay and will come again.

Everyone had a great time - a couple of things that would improve the place would be curtains or blinds as there is no way to block the outside sunshine and property lights at night making it difficult to sleep at times - also the bathroom lights shine through windows into the bedrooms so again if someone uses the bathroom at night it lights up the bedrooms. Curtains would also help block some street noise - otherwise we enjoyed and it was fun to see the sea turtles right out front and not be in the crowded tourist zone! The 3-bedrooms, two downstairs and a loft bedroom overlooking the living room were plenty of room. The living room and loft had ocean and pool views and windows were able to be opened to give a great ocean breeze right through the condo. The units are older but are being kept in good shape. We did get some noise from traffic on the backside but it did not bother us. The bathrooms and kitchen were in good shape except the electric stove could do with an upgrade. Management were really helpful and friendly. A huge turtle came up on a rock near the beach every night much to the delight of the children. We loved the "Bad *** Coffee shop across the street and the farmers market. All in all highly recommended and we know we would rather stay here than a big modern hotel.

At first I was a little worried since It was my first time not staying at a hotel; however it turned out to be the best place I had ever stayed for a family vacation. I have stayed at many high end hotels but this was the best experience ever. .. It felt homy and my teens loved it. I am planning to come back next Christmas and stay here again. This complex was built in the 60's and this unit has had nothing done to it. The online photos look great - we opened the front door to first see broken rattan furniture in the living room and then were greeted by ants all over the kitchen counter, everywhere in bathroom and in two of the three bedrooms - not just a few - they kept marching in. The property mgmt company did send someone in to spray but ants kept returning. Some of the units have been updated very nicely. The pool is awesome and kept very clean. Beach area great for swimming and snorkeling. The management were attentive and very accommodating. Bottom line this complex is very good, location is great but this unit really needs some TLC.

Snorkel and swim with the Turtles while grilling dinner and lounging by the pool. Walk across the street for everything you want to complete a perfect vacation, or drive 10 minutes and be at the West Maui hot spots. Unit 220 needs updating, but the rest of the complex is in great shape. 220 is an excellent location, big corner unit with huge amounts of light and cross breezes. We'll be back again. We could walk a few feet to the ocean and snorkel with the turtles, walk every morning to Bad *** Coffee and go shopping at the Farmers Market. Loved the location, near Lahaina. We had 3 familes with 8 people in the unit and were quite comfortable. The youngest was 15, so basically all adults - the two boys had to sleep on the couch. My husband and I stayed 15 years ago and I was a little concerned because it has been so long ago since we stayed. We were happy then, we were happy again. Thank you for a great stay. NOTE: if you are looking for a high end Spa type condo, you will not be happy. If you are looking for a well priced, place to hang, cook food, beautiful view and great location. This is the place to stay.

Fantastic setting on the ocean with turtle sightings daily. Great friendly owner neighbors. Unit 220 spacious and idealy located in complex. Unfortunately unit is overdue for some updating cupboards need refurbishing or replacing. Overall cleanliness could have been better but this may be more difficult with dated decor. Furniture needs a good cleaning. This unit has huge potential but needs some TLC to justify the rental fee.
