Home Away From Home
Kimberly W. from Anchorage, AK recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in December, 2016 This is our second time staying at Hale Kai and we just love it! It's perfect for the family with the park and beach right outside the door. We personally love how small and quiet it is. It truly feels like home.
Amy Y. from Port Hadlock, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2016 We had a lovely time, as usual, at the Hale Kai. The grounds very immaculate, the turtles performed. It was great. The only comment was the difference in the quality of the rooms. We were split between two units and the lower unit was more updated and clean. We don't stay at the Hale Kai for luxury, We stay for the comfort and the homey feeling. One of the units really needs to be updated to stay in line with the rest of the property.
Kate J. from North Curl Curl, NSW recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in October, 2016 We walked in and had our collective breath taken away. What a beautiful, fresh, breezy beach house! The spaces were perfect for our family of 4. The kids loved escaping upstairs to their own 'playroom'. The kitchen was great, particularly with the farmers market just down the road. The laundry facilities downstairs were super handy. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The parking was always available. The grounds and gardens were lovely. The beach out the front and the pool were wonderful. Watching the turtles eat their breakfast in the ocean, from the balcony, while we ate ours was an extra special highlight. The condo was homely and simple, we immediately felt relaxed and at home. We will definitely be back and have been recommending it to our friends already. While there, we hired a jeep and did lots of trips about. Driving the Road to Hana was a highlight. We did lots of snorkelling at lots of different beaches. The factory outlet shopping, wandering about and eating out at Lehaina was fantastic (the outlet shopping was better than Waikiki outlets). We also did the XTERRA trail running events and a bunch of road/path running.
Gary P. from Millbrae, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in August, 2016 We rented #220 at Hale Kai for 8 days in the last week of August 2016. Our stay was very enjoyable and the accommodations were as expected. The weather was warmer than we expected, so with no A/C it was tough for a couple of days. It did cool off at night so sleeping was not an issue.
Gary I. from Tebbetts, Missouri recommends this property. Stayed for 29 days in February, 2016 We stayed for the month of February. We have stayed at the Hale Kai in the past in different units. This unit had been constantly occupied before we came and the management apologized for the dirty carpet (I have seen worse in another unit). They were quick to fix the security bar on the sliding door when we arrived but the holes in the screen remained and we kept those windows closed to keep the bugs out. The unit needs some remodeling to bring it up to par and the coach covers cleaned or replaced. It has a great view of the ocean and we enjoyed watching the whales and turtles from the lanai. The location is within walking distance of groceries, food, and an ABC Store. Over the years the traffic noise at night has increased, seems kids like to race down the road on their motorcycles these days which spoils the charm of the Hale Kai.
Wendy P. from Abbotsford, B.C. recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in November, 2015 Our stay at Hale Kai was amazing. The condo we were in was the perfect size for our family and the location was amazing. We loved having the personal beach and pool and used the ocean side BBQ's every night! The place was well cared for and we had everything we needed for an enjoyable vacation. We would definitely recommend this location to friends and family and plan on returning again soon!
A guest from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in November, 2015 Great spot. Close beach, grocery store nearby. So much better than wasting a lot of money at a hotel or resort. We made our trip so much more.
A guest from Maumee, OH does not recommend this property. Stayed for 8 days in October, 2015 I rented two condos at Hale Kai for our family to have a week together in Maui. Condo #120 was clean and beautifully decorated. Condo #220 was a huge disappointment as it was very dirty, in need of updating as the furniture was old and even the lampshade had a hole in it! The kitchen was missing needed utensils, and a decent set of pots and pans. I would never stay in this condo again unless the owners do some work to it. The saving grace was that the views were spectacular and the pool was beautiful.
A guest from Maple Cross & Mill End Ward, ENG recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in September, 2015 The villa was exactly as described. It was clean. The service was superb. We would highly recommend it. 2 things to know: no air conditioning but windows, fans & sea breeze were fine for us. Also the 2 single beds are in a small hot room and 1 mattress not too comfy.
A guest from Tucson, AZ recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2015 We had 7 people fit well in unit 220. Ms Valerie was very nice, place was very clean on arrival. Location is great, close to local market, beaches, and restaurants. Islands got hit with heat wave, so like most with no AC, bought some fans. Snorkeling gear in closet was nice surprise.
A guest from Oakville, ON recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2015 CONDO # 220: Lots of space, well equipped, spotless, incredible views from the balcony and location couldn't get any better, walking distance to markets, restaurants, right next to a local public beach and playground. We saw turtles swimming right outside of our balcony...priceless.WIFI only one line and one area of the room, the neighbours had the same issue. Needs curtains on the second floor, the sun heats up the room and makes it unbearable at the end of the day. No a/c. It looks like the condo is a good 40 years old but cozy and very clean.Great customer service by reception staff but their welcome office has to be clean and de-clutter. It gives the entire property a poor first impression.
Debora A. from Concord, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in June, 2015 We were 6 people parents, grandmas, granddaughters. We stayed in this condo June 1-June 9 2015. This 3 bdrm worked out perfect for the 6 of us sharing the space. I have stayed in dozens of condo's all up and down the lower road and this is one of my favorites especially with the girls 3 & 5. This condo is not updated...we found it to be a bonus as it's kid friendly and everything works. The ocean view is amazing from the minute you enter the condo. This is a place you'd love to do the dishes or cook in because of the view. We went swimming in the pool and ocean everyday and some evenings too. We had two turtles on the rocks and one on the beach next door. My granddaughters liked the park next door. We all enjoyed the Farmers Market and Bad A$$ coffee shop. We enjoyed our stay and didn't want to leave. We also enjoyed the fresh banana's hanging for guest to pick off the branch. Thank you Valerie for your hospitality and communications prior to our stay.
John H. from Altamonte Springs, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in May, 2015 This was our third stay at Hale Kai but the first in unit #220, a 3 bedroom ocean front condo. This unit is ideal for guests requiring 3 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms, although its decor appears to be unchanged since its original decoration many years ago. The view is fantastic and we love all of the amenities of the Hale Kai property. We did have some initial problems with the condition of this unit as the Lanai shade did not work and the inside drapes were lying on the floor when we arrived. It appeared as if the windows in the living room had not been washed for quite some time, and the guest in the loft bedroom discovered some alive bugs in her bed. The tub in the shower of the downstairs bathroom was cracked and leaking into the condo below. We called this to the attention of the onsight management and they promptely dispatached a maintance man who rectified all of these problems: however, his attitude did not display the Aloha of the Hale Kai as he told the guest residing in the loft bedroom "if she didn't like the condo she could move to the Ritz Carlston. As this unit was the most expensive in the condo complex, the maintenance man did not convey a friendly Aloha welcome feeling, to say the least. Once the problems were corrected we were thereafter very satisfied. The general condition of this unit needs sprucing up as to furniture. A suggestion would be to add additional TV's so all bedrooms would be so equipped, especially for younger kids that might be sharing the twin bedroom. The location of the condo complex is ideal and overall the property is very well maintained. The onsight management are professional and helpful. Overall I would recommend this property and have already done so over the past 3 years. On our next visit we will select unit 219, a 2 bedroom,2 bath, next door, as it has always been immaculate, costs less, and we will not need 3 bedrooms next trip. We have been coming to MAUI at least once a year since 1990 and always stay in West MAUI.
Robert M. from Signal Hill, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2015 From opening the front door to spectacular views to saying goodbye to the great people in the Hale Kai Community it was a fantastic week. You can't ask for better accommodations, location, and hospitality. Our family of five adults and two very young children had no problems comfortably living in the suite. Mahalo to the Hale Kai community for an incredible experience.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha, Great to hear your experience in 220 and Hale Kai was incredible. Mahalo
Karen M. from Tacoma, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2015 We were 5 adults in condo #220. The size of the condo was accommodating, however it is very outdated and no matter how much cleaning is done, it will never look clean. We did enjoy ourselves, despite the condition of the condo. We had 3 other family members staying in condo #205 which was updated. The grounds and pool area are kept up very nicely. We were too late for whales, but had several turtles among the rocks every day and enjoyed watching them. Would not recommend condo #220, Hale Kai yes.
Belinda B. from cranebrook, nsw recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2014 It was easy to get to plenty of room the five of us the workers were fantastic the view was awesome it was truly amazing thanks guys Belinda Bateup
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha Belinda, Great to hear you found plenty of room for five in #220 and enjoyed the awesome views. Mahalo
Reviewed by: A guest recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in November, 2014 We had an absolutely wonderful time at Hale Kai #220! The condo was incredibly cozy and we felt right at home as soon as we stepped in the door. Beautiful view just outside of the lanai (balcony) and we enjoyed many evenings watching the sunset and swimming in the pool. Well located, with everything within easy driving distance. Would highly recommend and hope we can come again sometime.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha, Your title says it all and great to hear you felt right at home with the amazing views. Mahalo
Kathryn M. from Lovely Banks, Victoria recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2014 WE really enjoyed our stay at this property. It was in an absolutely amazing spot and it was a joy every day to see the turtles frolicking in the beach behind the apartment. Thank you very much. We would love to return another time.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha, Thanks for the great feedback and the Sea Turtles are a treat to watch out front on the shoreline. We look forward to your return to #220. Mahalo
A guest from Livermore, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2014 I thought Liz was very kind to us. We had a large wedding party but she was very friendly to us all and we appreciated it. The general condition of the property was OK. Our unit #220 definitely needs a new stove. Burners didn't work, otherwise, it was a beautiful spot.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha, Great to hear our on-site rental office was very helpful during your stay and we do have a beautiful spot by the ocean. Mahalo
A guest from Calgary, Alberta recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2014 We had a great time at hale Kai. The place had amazing view of the ocean, steps to the pool, beach, BBQ. Very convenient and walking distance to farmers market, restaurants, and a really good coffee place called bad *** coffee. Would recommend to families, and friends.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha, Great to hear you enjoyed our location to the ocean and shops within a short walk. Thanks for the recommendation of everything we all enjoy. Mahalo
Condos # 120 and 220 Fit my family's needs perfectly.
A guest from Fairbanks, AK recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in January, 2014 While 5 family members were in Maui we were in luxury with two baths and three bedrooms. The "loft" space with a separate bathroom was especially great for my stay up super late daughter. The rest of us got a quiet nights. When we were down to three people, we moved downstairs and enjoyed walking right out our door to the pool and beach. Both of these condos were well furnished - #120 really had a good supply of pots/pans. The number of pans in #220 was good, but very basic. Condo 120 had a more updated kitchen with newer appliances and the bathroom was updated as well. #220 worked great - it was just a little older style. The management firm were fabulous to work with and made our transition from 220 down to 120 especially easy for us with the housekeepers schedule of cleaning. They really helped us out from the beginning of our reservation to our leaving day. The pool area is well kept and nice, the beach had turtles pulling out to rest on several occasions, the sunsets were beautiful the other island. We really enjoyed our stay. The off-street parking was a real plus and the closeness of the Farmer's Fresh food market and the short walk to the Fish Market were refreshing. The next door public park had open areas with tables, kids'' playground equipment and the beach area had a shallow area for toddlers to play since the coral reef there blocked most waves. Totally enjoyed our stay and will come again.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha, Thanks for your positive feedback and good to hear both units accommodated all your family needs. Mahalo
Brent R. from Springfield, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2013 Couldn't ask for a better location. Everyone was friendly and the place was well-kept. We would definitely stay there again.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha - Great to hear you enjoyed our location and our tropical gardens. Look forward to hosting you in the future. Mahalo - HKR, LLC
Suzanne M. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in June, 2013 This is a great property for a large group. Everyone had a great time - a couple of things that would improve the place would be curtains or blinds as there is no way to block the outside sunshine and property lights at night making it difficult to sleep at times - also the bathroom lights shine through windows into the bedrooms so again if someone uses the bathroom at night it lights up the bedrooms. Curtains would also help block some street noise - otherwise we enjoyed and it was fun to see the sea turtles right out front and not be in the crowded tourist zone! Mahalo to Hale Kai for a great time.
Marilyn R. from Grover Beach, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2013 We really enjoyed our condo. We were a family of 6 including 2 children. The 3-bedrooms, two downstairs and a loft bedroom overlooking the living room were plenty of room. The living room and loft had ocean and pool views and windows were able to be opened to give a great ocean breeze right through the condo. The units are older but are being kept in good shape. We did get some noise from traffic on the backside but it did not bother us. The bathrooms and kitchen were in good shape except the electric stove could do with an upgrade. Management were really helpful and friendly. A huge turtle came up on a rock near the beach every night much to the delight of the children. We loved the "Bad *** Coffee shop across the street and the farmers market. All in all highly recommended and we know we would rather stay here than a big modern hotel.
A guest from Surrey BC Canada, recommends this property. Stayed for 21 days in May, 2013 This was our 2nd vacation in unit 220 . We have found it to be a perfect location for our family of 5 adults. Most of our time was spent in the ocean or by the pool but it was great to bring our barbecued dinner out onto the lanai at sunset.
Becky M. from St College, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2013 We were overjoyed with our stay at Hale Kai. The location was better than expected. The pool and beach were in front of our lani. We watched whales from our first breakfast. Sea turtles swam in the reef too. There was enough room for 5 adults. We grilled dinner along with several other families. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you Valerie for your help.
Brandi & Jeff S. from Aldergrove, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 22 days in January, 2013 This was our second year in a row stay at the Hale Kai, this stay was just as fantastic as the last. Unit 220 could use a new king bed mattress as well as a new vacuum. Other then that a great unit with an awesome view!
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha Brandi & JeffI am so glad you have a fantastic time here. Hale Kai has a lot to offer. The owners did get a new king size bed! If has a new vacuum too. They also bought a new large flat screen TV.We will be doing some painting too in April. The views and being so close to the ocean it is hard to beat. Mahalo Valerie
A guest from Sacramento, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in December, 2012 As soon as we opened the door we felt home. At first I was a little worried since It was my first time not staying at a hotel; however it turned out to be the best place I had ever stayed for a family vacation. I have stayed at many high end hotels but this was the best experience ever. .. It felt homy and my teens loved it. I am planning to come back next Christmas and stay here again. We recommend this place to anyone how wants to be relaxed . Thank you for a wonderful stay :)
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha MilfredMahalo for the kind words. We are small, quiet and quaint. I do hope to see you back again.Mahalo Valerie
A guest from Vernon, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2012 The unit we stayed in -220- a three bedroom is in dire need of repair and updating. This complex was built in the 60's and this unit has had nothing done to it. The online photos look great - we opened the front door to first see broken rattan furniture in the living room and then were greeted by ants all over the kitchen counter, everywhere in bathroom and in two of the three bedrooms - not just a few - they kept marching in. The property mgmt company did send someone in to spray but ants kept returning. Some of the units have been updated very nicely. The pool is awesome and kept very clean. Beach area great for swimming and snorkeling. The management were attentive and very accommodating. Bottom line this complex is very good, location is great but this unit really needs some TLC.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha Ken & Jo-AnnSorry the unit did not live up to your expectation. It is a great unit with a view that is hard to beat and so close to the ocean. The owner has not been in a position to do anything to the unit forsome time. Her children have taken an interest and are fixing it up. They are buying a new king bed, large flat screen tv and having some painting done. We are going through everythingand freshing it up. Ants we have not had problem since you were here so I hope that we have detoured the ants. The unit was remodeled about 20 years ago so some TLC will take it a long way.Mahalo Valerie
A perfect place to get away from it all & be close to it all too.
A guest from Portola Valley, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2012 The Hale Kai property was fabulous; quiet, beautiful, and steps from a basically private beach. Snorkel and swim with the Turtles while grilling dinner and lounging by the pool. Walk across the street for everything you want to complete a perfect vacation, or drive 10 minutes and be at the West Maui hot spots. Unit 220 needs updating, but the rest of the complex is in great shape. 220 is an excellent location, big corner unit with huge amounts of light and cross breezes. We'll be back again. Thanks Hale Kai.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha Susan Mahalo forthe kind words. Our location is great close to just about everything. I am so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. Looking forward to seeing you again. Mahalo Valerie
A guest from Laguna Niguel, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in June, 2012 We had a wonderful stay. We could walk a few feet to the ocean and snorkel with the turtles, walk every morning to Bad *** Coffee and go shopping at the Farmers Market. Loved the location, near Lahaina. We had 3 familes with 8 people in the unit and were quite comfortable. The youngest was 15, so basically all adults - the two boys had to sleep on the couch. My husband and I stayed 15 years ago and I was a little concerned because it has been so long ago since we stayed. We were happy then, we were happy again. Thank you for a great stay. NOTE: if you are looking for a high end Spa type condo, you will not be happy. If you are looking for a well priced, place to hang, cook food, beautiful view and great location. This is the place to stay.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha Eileen & Robert, With our property being small it is a great place for a family reunion. Being centrally located to shops, restaurants & Farmers Market does make it easy.Thank you for the kind words and for picking Hale Kai for your vacation. Look forward to seeing you in the future. Mahalo Valerie
Roger K. from Prince George, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 15 days in May, 2012 This property was ideal for two couples travelling with an infant. Fantastic setting on the ocean with turtle sightings daily. Great friendly owner neighbors. Unit 220 spacious and idealy located in complex. Unfortunately unit is overdue for some updating cupboards need refurbishing or replacing. Overall cleanliness could have been better but this may be more difficult with dated decor. Furniture needs a good cleaning. This unit has huge potential but needs some TLC to justify the rental fee.
Property Manager Response: Response from HKR, LLC, DBA: Hale Kai Oceanfront Condominiums Aloha and Mahalo for staying with us. I do appreciate your committs and will try to work on the unit with the owner. I have it scehduled for a deep clean, with all the work we havebeen doing around with our landscaping and new railings they are all due. Mahalo Valerie
Shannon R. from Vancouver, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2012 Beautiful, you never know when booking online but we feel like we found a secret gem. Thank you! If we ever come to Maui again, we'll be staying here for sure! Aloha!
