As the National Geographic Magazine (January, 2016) issue, The Power of Parks, states, "When we get closer to nature–be it untouched wilderness or a backyard tree–we do our over-stressed brains a favour. Nature nurtures us."
Confederation Homestead is our recommended way for you and your spouse/partner/family/friends to get away from the stresses of city life and rest, or explore our forest, or whatever makes you de-stress.
Our 36-acre farm is surrounded by forest, with its own pond, entirely private and quiet. It comes with a lovely 1866 log-pioneer home which is a wonderful cross between visiting our past history, decorated with period antiques, and the loving and tasteful updates of modern convenience. Situated in the scenic locale of Haliburton County in Ontario, it is a 2-3 hour drive from Toronto or 4 1/2 hours from Ottawa. Available for rentals year round. A Wonderful place to spend your Honeymoon (we did in 2009, and we loved it so much we bought the place).
We are pet friendly. Well-behaved animals are welcome including cats and dogs.
We invite you to explore our website, view the many amenities made available to you, all for a reasonable rate, be it a weekend or a week or two. We have a loyal group of guests who come back, again and again. We welcome you to join that group.
You can view many more pictures, learn more and book by going to our site.
**Please note this is a Housekeeping Cottage, which means you are expected to leave it in the condition you found it. Cleaning products and tools are provided. You also need to supply your own linens, however for travelers from afar or those who wish to use it, we can offer a linen service at an additional reasonable charge.
July & August, minimum booking is one week. During the off season, minimum rental is 2 nights. For Christmas, New Years and March Break weeks, 4 nights. **The last week of summer before the Labour Day weekend, you are invited to extend your stay through the weekend for another 2-3 days for the additional daily rate of $160/night. The highest rates are high season June - Canadian Thanksgiving (2nd weekend in October), and the low rates are after Thanksgiving to Mid June. **If there are open weeks during high season that are not booked, we will consider last minute weekend rentals, however this would only happen if the following week is not booked as well, since change over happens on Saturdays. This may work best at the end of the summer season. Please ask. A rental application must be filled out and returned to the owner. If your application is accepted, a 50% deposit will be required if booking more than 30 days in advance and the balance paid 30 days before the rental, otherwise the full amount is due. We also accept email transfer, direct bank deposit (for Canadians), as well as bank drafts & money orders. The Rental Application can be emailed to you or you can download it through our website link (Contact page) on the Details Tab above, bottom of the page.
If you wish to cancel your reservation after your deposit has been made but 60 days before your rental, and we are able to re-book the full time, your deposit will be returned, less 50% administration fee. If we cannot re-book then the entire deposit will be forfeited. If you cancel 30 days or less before the rental, and the full payment has been made, if we cannot re-book then the full amount will be forfeited. If we can re-book, then 50% of the full payment will be refunded. If the cancellation is due to serious illness, accident or death in the family, please advise us as we are flexible and we will try to re-book your time at a future date.
Terms and Conditions:
See our rental application for complete details and obligations. A rental reservation is not final until the completed application has been returned, accepted by us and the required deposit (or full rental if less than 30 days) is paid. We allow up to 3 business days for this deposit to reach us once your application has been accepted. The balance is due 30 days before the rental.
Pricing Notes: Entirely private swimming is available in our pond, which comes with a wooden floating raft.
Our 36 acre forest has marked rough trails for walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing (around the pond and meadow only). The trails go steadily upward to a ridge, and go through the mixed forest of interesting terrain which includes rocky outcrops.
Whitewater rafting is available nearby at the Minden Whitewater Rapids at Horseshoe Lake, site of the 2015 Pan Am Games and Olympic Whitewater rafting competition.
