Abdullah K. from Westlake, Ohio does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2016 It has a nice private location. A little away from everything if you like to be in silent. The property is nice and big enough. The hottub is the best for the kids.As it is names Troll House, there are too much stuff all araond the house about trolls. If you are obsessive like me the house is not confortable for you. I felt like in a museum when i first enter the house. And the property looks clean but it needs detailed cleaning. It is non pet property but i saw pet hairs on the couch. And the last day we saw a rat in master bedroom.
A guest from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2015 We recently stayed 4 nights at Troll House with our family of six. We loved the house. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the open floor plan was perfect for hanging out with our adult children. The art displayed throughout the house makes you feel a part of something special. The privacy was spectacular too, we could not see any other houses. Two of the nights we drove to the top of Mountainside Drive and hiked a short trail up to Dolly Sods Wilderness Area to watch the sunset. This was our favorite! Beautiful views of the valley! You can also watch the sunset from the deck at Troll House. Short drive to hiking, golf, rafting. Clean house, great stay!
Sandra G. B. from Teaneck, NJ recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2015 Years ago we rented Troll House for our annual family reunion, and we were excited to find it available again (with a different agency). The kitchen, dining space and bedrooms were the highlight of the visit. Be aware that the well appointed kitchen does not have much storage for food. The appliances were in good working order. Bring your own measuring cups and measuring spoons if you are planning to bake. The beds are good size--2 kings, two queens, two twins, but the mattress situation is subpar. The twin mattresses were thin foam, no box springs, laying directly on slats. Sleepers felt the slats and put the mattresses on the floor. The queen beds had feather mattress pads that have shifted, resulting in "sway-back" sleeping. My major disappointment was the smell of body oil in the mattresses and bedding. Also some of the towels had a sour "old dishrag" smell. After washing in hot water, this was solved, but I suspect overcrowded washer loads with out enough detergent. The requirement to wash sheets and towels before leaving at 10 am almost guarantees overcrowded washes. Maybe two washers or a later check out time would help with this.Be aware that this house only has one living space and that is small. It worked for us, but would not for families with multiple ages.
Mary B. from Elkins, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2015 This house was used over a weekend for my son's wedding and was large enough to accommodate our family and we used the deck for the wedding. The house was well stocked and maintained, clean, and has a gorgeous view.
A guest from State College, PA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2015 The Troll House was a good fit for our family get together, six adults, two three year olds and a baby. The five bedrooms fit our needs perfectly and was one reason we chose the Troll House. The views are great and the yard was nicely sized for the kids. The hot tub was nice and the spaces in the house were good. The eclectic art and decorations were interesting. The deck was big, a!beit a little worn and the outdoor furniture needs updating (screws were sticking up on lounge chairs and the table and chairs were dried out and rough). The house was generally clean but the laundry room and under the kitchen sink was cluttered and dirty and we found mouse droppings on the bottom of the spice cabinet. The owners had a nice selection of games and puzzles which we enjoyed. The folks at Best of Canaan who brokered the house were very friendly and cooperative. They were quick to have maintenance help us to light the fireplace and fix a screen tear on our first day there. We enjoyed our visit to the Canaan Valley.
A guest from Washington, DC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2014 Very nice house with plenty of room for eight people in five bedrooms. The fireplace was cozy, and the hot tub under the stars was delightful.
Kathy K. from Albion, IN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2014 We enjoyed our stay at Troll House. It was a nice home with plenty of space for at least 10 people. The pictures and decorations were almost like a small art gallery. It was very interesting. We enjoyed the hot tub which was spotless and the fireplace on chilly evenings. The home was very clean except for the carpet in the living room needed to be professionally had a couple large stains (looked like pet stains). The couch and loveseat need new seat cushions. The mattresses were very very firm. A 2 inch memory foam topper would really help. This home is in a perfect area and very private.Stunning views. The decks and deck furniture were nice and there was a nice screen porch that needed screen repairs due to a recent bear visit. We used the gas grill one evening. Worked fine. Nice washer and dryer too. Easy in and out to highway. Not far from restaurants and Canaan and Black Water Falls State Parks. Saw lots of deer and one eagle!
A guest from Mercersburg, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2014 We LOVE Canaan and return each Fall for a long weekend get away, golf, hiking, leaf watching and general relaxation. We have stayed in a great number and wide variety of units, preferring to be in Old Timberline for access to the lakes and Dolly Sods etc... . This year at Troll House, we loved the total seclusion of this home! Of course, all of Canaan is secluded in some sense, but with only 1 other driveway on this dead end lane and a nice view out back, this was as private as it gets! Unfortunately, our weather was one of Canaan's "Grey Outs" complete with several days of mist--but the Leaves were Peak in Color, even if there was NO Sun to shine on them! This allowed us to enjoy the hot tub and the ample supply of DVD's in this home, along with some board games we brought along as well. This unit was nice--loved the large windows and the kitchen was nice--the goofy tea kettle whistle was a lot of fun! A few mechanical issues--one shower conked out just for our visit--another one the door stayed ajar about an inch or so and leaked water. The hot tub was nice--and uncovered for star gazing (what we prefer...), but the jets were a bit weak compared to other hot tubs. The screened in porch had torn screens--not sure if the raccoon that visited the charcoal grill one night found his way in or not??! All in all a nice unit, with supreme location--and we greatly have appreciated dealing with Best of Canaan the past couple of years, after having some simply ridiculous experiences with other local agencies in the past! Still object to the mandatory damage insurance---have been coming here for 20 years and have never broken ANYTHING--so view this (instead of a damage deposit...) as nothing but a complete rip off! But love Canaan and will return and this unit would move towards the top 1/3 of our list.
Dennis A. from Fredericksburg, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2014 Wonderful setting, glorious sunsets and heavenly stars, plenty of room inside and out, nice layout for small children, loved the decks, very nicely decorated, kitchen very functional, great gas stove, needs a more efficient set of basic tools - like measuring spoons and sharp knives. Outdoor grill needs to be replaced and moved to a safer location. Hot tub is great and was very clean. Overall we loved the Troll House and would go back again.
Wonderful break from the usual vacations we do in summer time
A guest from Beaver, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in June, 2014 Donna at Best of Canaan was a pleasure to work with. The rental was everything we needed, from the kitchen items to the awesome screened in porch. I would recommend Best of Canaan and this rental. The only item I would warn others about would be that the beds are a bit harder than my family likes.
A guest from Parkersburg, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in June, 2014 The layout of the house was great. The amenities were old and in poor condition. Beds were very uncomfortable (felt like we were sleeping on a floor). The grill was unusable because it looked like it would fall apart. The two outside umbrellas were in disrepair. Kitchen was in decent shape but some of the pots/pans need replaced.
Sunil T. from Ellicott City, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2014 House is old with old furniture, nothing like in the pictures. Carpets were not clean, beds were not dusted.Stained couches and pillows.Master bathroom had leaking shower and the shower door doesn't close.Hot tub was not clean and had hair in it. I suggest management to be more attentive to above maintenance and guests would appreciate the house more than ever.
A guest from Columbia, Maryland recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2014 Troll House was perfect for our needs - slightly tucked away to ensure privacy but an easy ride over to the Timberline slopes. We love to cook, and the kitchen was more than well equipped with cookware and utensils. Dipping into the bubbly hot tub was a great way to unwind after the chilly day, and we loved the views from the back porch. Spacious, clean and well-located, we'd love to return in the summer to enjoy even more of the outside activities that Canaan Valley has to offer.
Violet S. from Philippi, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2013 We absolutely loved our stay at Troll House! The location was perfect, secluded with beautiful view off the back deck. Beds were a little hard which my husband loved but me, not so much! having snow while we were there made the weekend perfect!
A guest from Washington, DC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2013 The Troll HOuse was a perfect house for our family, which included an 84 yr.old great-grandmother and a 20 month old baby. Lots of space, comfortable, lovely views which included lots of deer and sunsets. Can't wit to go back!
Robert H. from Virginia Beach, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013 Overall the house filled most of our expectations. The only critical comments would be that there were not enough bathroom supplies; which is okay if we were pre-warned to bring our own (we purchased some locally the day after we arrived). Also, the electronics could be updated with some directions on how to use the remote devices. Also, we brought our own DVDs but could not get the DVD player to work. Overall, however, we loved the house, the screened in porch and hot tub were most enjoyable.

Craig S. from Chesterfield, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2013 Our family had an amazing stay at the Troll house over Presidents Day weekend! Demetrius C. from Washington, DC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2013 So glad that i settled on renting from Best of Canaan. Donna was incredibly helpful, and there was absolutely no hassle in the entire process from inquiry to payment to check in to check out. I had such a great experience and so did my friends who joined me. Without a doubt we intend on returning to Canaan Valley and without question will use the Best of Canaan management. The house was beautiful and clean, and the views were spectacular. Also the close proximity to a nice ski resort was a wonderfully pleasant surprise. Stop considering your other options and rent from Best of Canaan!
DORAN S. from Rockville, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2012 Love Troll House, especially the beautiful view. Honestly, the best thing about Troll House is the rental agency, Best of Canaan. The women who run this company are exceptional at customer service. We have been renting at Canaan for 15 years and have used all the agencies. Without a doubt, Best of Canaan takes its job seriously, makes sure everything is perfect and is always our first stop when booking a vacation. Thanks for everything!
A guest from Arlington, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in August, 2012 We've spent 2 weeks at Troll House for several summers, and have come to regard it as our "home away from home." Thanks to the owners for providing such a lovely, well-equipped place to unwind and entertain family and friends.
Paul S. from Leo, IN recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2012 Amazing. Had a very hard time leaving.Hope to stay in the Troll House again. The house fit the scenery perfect. The master bed needs new matress and also the two twin matresses need replaced.
A guest from McLean, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2012 Troll House is a beautiful home located in a quiet, private area. The yard is large, which we loved for playing badminton! This was our second year at Troll House, and I am sure we will be back again. My children love it (16, 13, and 8)...which is great because sometimes it's hard to find a place everyone enjoys. We really love the beautiful deck (with hot tub!) overlooking the mountains, and the cozy screened porch.
Janet P. from Gloucester, Eng recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2012 We spent a week in Troll House in mid June with our daughter and her family as part of a 3 1/2 week visit to West Virginia where the family lives in the panhandle.Troll House is a delightfully quirky home with intriguing and largely local art and craft works throughout. It is also extremely well equipped for all cooking and entertainment needs. The peaceful location was perfect for us with convenient short walks from the house and great hilarity was enjoyed in the hot tub especially by our 2 grandchildren aged 9 and 13 yrs.We visited Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods, and made several visits to Davis and Thomas which provided good eating places and interesting shopping.Weather was warm and sunny enabling barbecues and chilling on the spacious deck, painting and reading. It was a great week's holiday, the only downer being a visitation of mice towards the end of our stay.
Valerie A. from St. Albans, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2012 Our family rented Troll House for a long weekend and had the most relaxing time together. The house is located in a very private location with the most beautiful, serene views. All the extra amenities for a wonderful experience. Beautifully and tastefully decorated!!! A MUST STAY THERE location for us!!! Hope to visit Troll House again very soon!!!
