Perfect Ocean View
A guest from Grass Valley, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2016 A bit far from Newport, but a benefit to be away from the crowd. The View is in itself worth the stay. A beach stroll or jog is easily accessible with two steep but short trails. Pet friendly so it worked out perfectly for our dog
Brittney K. from Eugene, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2016 We absolutely loved staying at the Bertlsen Barracks. Beautiful views, cozy home and a perfect get away. Can't wait to return! :)
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2016 The house was in great shape with a gorgeous kitchen and great view. It was on a peaceful street which allowed for a slower pace. The beach access down the road was awesome, and we were able to stroll the beach essentially by ourselves every day. Seals watched us from the shoreline, and morning coffee on the balcony was a treat. We also had a night fire in the massive fireplace that warmed the house nicely. Great Stay and well worth the 15 min drive south from Newport
A guest from Port Townsend, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2016 Windy wet and fun. My only suggestion for improvement would be installation of grab bars in showers and especially in tub/shower in Sandalwood. Many older people are unsteady on a slippery surface when showering.
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Thanks for the suggestion, we will ask the owners about it, good idea.
Reviewed by: Michelle P. does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in February, 2016 The house would have been perfect, but.. The first morning I woke up to heavy equipment, I went outside the home to find them tarring up the road to put in a new water line in the area. I called the property management company and asked them if they knew, they said they did, yet I wasn't notified. I told them I was disappointed they said they would get back to me and didn't. The second day there was a ditch in front of the home and my handicapped father had to stay in for the day unable to leave. My friend(that just had knee surgery) and I were able to walk through to the neighbors yard and then to the road to leave. We were woke up every morning except on check out, which we had to leave early any way. I called another time to only leave a voicemail during business hours and have not received a return call.Am only giving 1 star because it won't let me give zero stars.
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC It was two days after you checked in that you called to complain about the construction. I drove to the house immediately and was told by the workers there that they would be finished soon. They said that they had spoken to you and had assured you that you could pull out of the driveway and be able to come and go as you pleased. They began their work day at 8 am and did not work on the weekends. Today I called you to apologize for the inconvenience and refunded you one night stay. So, you stayed four nights and got one free, tell me again why you gave us an overall satisfaction of a 1 when you stayed in an otherwise "perfect" house?
A guest from Gresham, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2015 The location was peaceful, with no traffic noise, and the house was quiet within with the two bedrooms well separated. The kitchen is great, and there is plenty of comfortable seating in the living room. More/better window coverings would be one improvement suggestion, and there was a mild, unpleasant smell near and in one of the bathrooms. The beach had interesting rocks that we were told were recently uncovered, and there were very few people there. When the electricity went out in half the house for no apparent reason one evening, we were able to talk to a helpful, local management person. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much.
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Thanks for all the wonderful comments, we have repaired the electrical problem, not sure about the smell but we always try to check all our homes before our guests arrive so I guess we missed that. We will look into the window coverings, hope to see you again soon.
A guest from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2015 Wonderful location & fantastic views of the ocean. House isn't fancy but it is well stocked and welcoming. Our 2nd visit here & we'd come back again.
A guest from Dexter, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in November, 2015 This was a wonderful place to stay. The view was excellent, we were able to see the whales passing by to seal rock.
CHARLENE S. from DENVER, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2015 We have used many AirBNB properties throughout the world and I must say that this is the cutest one we've stayed in. It is immaculately clean and super comfortable. It's on a bluff overlooking the ocean and has a perfect view. The deck is cozy too. The bed was comfortable, the heating system worked really well. We went in October and were blessed with a huge storm that we watched come in from the ocean. I could easily spend a month at this cottage!
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Thanks for the review, we are so happy you were satisfied. A note to future guests, we are not part of Air BnB but part of HomeAway and VRBO. We strongly encourage our guests to call us directly at or go on line to our web site at and book directly through us. When future guests book through VRBO or the other partner sites it costs us and our owners additional fees. Thanks and hope you will return soon to Bertelsen's Barracks!!

Linda N. from West Linn, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2015 We enjoyed our stay at this rental. As usual the house was clean and fresh. A well-stocked kitchen and comfortable furniture added to the beautiful view. Beach access was easy for us but might be a bit of a challenge for someone with limitations. Great place for dogs and relaxing on the deck. We will rent this house again for sure. Thanks!
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Thanks!
Joel M. from Stanwood, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in September, 2015 Rent from Bayshore every year. Most comfortable beds yet, quiet location away from large housing areas. Dirt road access, detached new unfinished garage nice surprise.
Robert F. from Boise, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2015 Breathtaking does describe our trip. We were overwhelmed with the beauty. The home was small, but functioned well. The property was in good repair and very clean.Part of the reason we returned to this part of the Oregon coast was because of Lori and the staff at Bayshore Rentals, they've made wonderful recommendations re which property best fit our budget and wishes and they've promptly addressed any concerns or problems.
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC So happy to read your comments, thanks for giving kudos to Lori, she works hard and deserves it! Such a great employee. Hope you can come back soon.
Elizabeth S. from Grass Valley, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2015 Loved this house for lots of reasons! Location, VIEW, condition and amenities. We had everything we needed in a great home! I posted many pics on FB and posted a link for Bayshore Rentals for my friends who were interested in the area and house.
A guest from Sedona, AZ recommends this property. Stayed for 30 days in June, 2015 Perfect. Love the view, wall of windows and deck for coffee or a cocktail. house is cozy but spacious and appointments are good. Very comfortable and felt like home.
A guest from Spokane Valley, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in April, 2015 It was a beautiful house with a nice deck that overlooked the ocean. Seal Rock turned out to be my favorite beach and it was easy to get to from the house. We were able to bring our two dogs who also loved the beach. It was in a great location, easy to find and near Newport and Waldport.
A guest from Lewiston, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in March, 2015 We had a wonderful stay and the area and the beach were perfect. The house was very clean; even the cupboards!! My only minor complaint is that the beds run small. Bayshore Rentals are truly the best agency to go through and to deal with. My husband and I have been going to the coast for over 40 years and wished we could always utilize them. Thanks!
Maureen B. from Forest Ranch, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2014 Love the house, view of the ocean and short walk to the beach. Perfect for my husband and I and daughter, husband , granddaughter and Juno the dog.
Reviews were somewhat better than what we experienced.
Dale E. from Dunlap, IL does not recommend this property. Stayed for 14 days in August, 2014 We rented this house without seeing it which we normally do not do. The reviews we read were mostly very positive so we were somewhat disappointed for the following reasons. The property is quite old which we did not realize. The closets in the bedrooms are very small and the second bedroom is extremely small. The positives are the sofas and chair in the main room are comfortable. Also the appliances are nice. We had trouble with the shower door leaking and when brought to the attention of the management it was promptly taken care of. The management company, as usual, was excellent to deal with. They are professional. I would probably hesitate to recommend this property to a friend or relative.
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Thank you for your review. We replaced the shower doors with new shower curtains which resolved the leaking. This home can accommadate 4 people + 2 with the trundle bed and is comfortable and pet friendly. But most easily acommadates 2 couples, and pets. It has a fantastic view of the ocean and sits up on high bank overlooking Ona Beach, a beautiful location.
Arthur A. from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2014 We loved the views and the layout of the house. We had most of our meals at the house and enjoyed the mornings just relaxing and watching the ocean.
Kristine I. from Kennewick, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2014 The rental had some obvious areas that needed fixing. The panelling on the outside was actually missing in some places, with large holes. I imagine there are rodents living in the walls. There were cracks also. The kitchen had been upgraded, but the rest needed work. It worked fine, but not a destination vacation spot. We could not locate the path to the beach.
Randy W. from Woodburn, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2014 As always, we enjoyed the comfortable house at the beautiful location. Kudos to to staff. The weather was so heavy that part of the chimney blew off the house. A repairman was promptly dispatched who made swift repairs in a driving rain and wind storm.
Reviewed by: Breanna M. recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in December, 2013 This house was much more than I expected. The kitchen was fab, loved how stocked it was. The fireplace was perfect and paired with the view it made for a perfect relaxing New Years Eve. I look forward to staying here again and highly recommend it.
A guest from Carson, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2013 Our second stay at this house and it was wonderful once again. Enough pots and pans to make all of our Thanksgiving dinner with no problems. The location is close enough to go to town quickly, but away from lots of people. We'll be back.
Melissa E. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2013 Although we have rented dozens of times through Bayshore, this was our first for this home. The view was incredible thanks to the wall of windows facing the ocean. The kitchen and living room was very roomy, comfortable and clean and since it was very rainy, we were very thankful! The bathrooms could use a little updating though. A small curtain on the window in the rear bathroom would be good too.
Bertelsen's Barracks is very comfortable - it feels like home.
Randy W. from Woodburn, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2013 The view is beautiful. We enjoy the unobstructed view of the Pacific. The continued upgrading and improvements to the property are also appreciated.
Reviewed by: Carol W. recommends this property. Stayed for 15 days in October, 2013 Lori was amazing!!! She was professional, sincere, tremendously helpful and very caring. She addressed any problems immediately and went above and beyond the call of duty. She has a calming presence. I will book through this company again. The property was lovely.
A guest from roseburg, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2013 I would rather keep this "find" to myself! But if you are curious and stay at this rental, take really good care of it. The furniture, beds, linens are nothing short of quality and comfort. The view is outstanding. The bathrooms are quaint. What a lovely place to relax and enjoy the coast.
A guest from Walla Walla, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in August, 2013 This home had the potential of breakfast, lunch and dinner on the deck, if the weather had cooperated! To hear the ocean through the multiple screened windows, was lovely on the days it wasn't pouring rain, windy and cold. But that is the variable the coast can bring even in August! The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, and dishes. The furniture was comfortable. The washer and dryer were fine. The bedding was abundant. When checking the couches and chairs at the week's end, I found a crayon, pencil, candy, wrappers, and someone's quilting circles! The main concern which has already been mentioned, was the leaky shower stall. I had a wet bath rug and mat every time I used it. I tried varying my shower head position, but It was still Wet! This could be a slipping hazard.I also had mentioned that the bathroom vent could use a cleaning. Oh, it was nice to have a covered carport! Thank you for the use of this lovely property!
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Thanks for your response, we will certainly speak with the cleaners about doing a better job of the furniture. We also willl look into the leaky shower, it helps to get a guest's perspective. We certainly do not want someone falling!
Rose R. from Missoula, MT recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2013 I loved this house, the ocean views from the windows and deck were wonderful I couldn't believe how many great beaches were within a 2- 15 minute drive either way-Ona and Seal Rock were very close and both great for the dogs and beach walking was a major part of our stay. There was plenty to do and see up and down the coast and the little coffee hut with their homemade pastries was a huge plus-and right there in Seal Rock!
Patty H. from Reno, NV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2013 This was our 2nd time using bayshore rentals, staff was very friendly. Our home had a wonderful view of the ocean, beach acesses not far.Would definitely stay again, planning trip for next year already!
A guest from Albany, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2013 The house was very easy to stay in and was well stocked with amenities. The view was gorgeous and a great deck. Just a couple small things would make it better. 1. Numbers on the garage. Trying to find it at night was very difficult. Can't see the sign on the house at night!2. There are two paths to the beach. The closest is to the North. Psycho path (with a sign marking it). It is pretty steep and slick. 3. The second path is further and to the South. Go down Huckleberry Rd. When you come to the end of a wire fence, you will see path runs down to beach beside a house with shingles. It is easier than psycho path - but, please be aware if you have anyone in your group with limited mobility - it still is not an easy path. Very steep steps in the middle and muddy areas with loose boards. Our group had no issues, but anyone with mobility issues will have a difficult time. The neighborhood was quiet and very comfortable. The beds were comfortable and so was the furniture in the living room. Bring your own games/puzzles/books. Thank you for sharing your house!
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Thanks so much for the suggestions, we wil post them in the house for easier beach access.
Karen M. from Philomath, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2012 Bertelsens Barracks is truly wonderful place to stay, great view, great beach walks, very comfortable place to stay with our college age sons.
Monique A. from hood river, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2012 We visited this home with friends and our dogs. I loved that one bedroom did not have carpet. It was great to go onto the back porch after being on the beach and towel dry them off and there was a door that kept them from running on the carpet until I dried them. Clearer directions to the beach access would be great.
Rodney P. from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2012 This property is beautifully situated with fantastic ocean views. Beach access is limited to folks up for a hike. Bring ingredients if you plan on cooking, the house only has salt and pepper. Overall you cannot ask for a more relaxing, quiet, wonderful stay. We highly recommend it and intend to come back.
A guest from Richland, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2012 Great experience on the coast. Lovely spot, well-equipped, quiet, nice view. Bayshore rentals went out of their way to accommodate us after a personal emergency postponed our holiday. I would recommend this to any group of 6 or fewer.
Nancy P. from Gladstone, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2012 Wonderful stay again this year. We have already reserved our stay for next year. Thank you Bayshore for being so accommmodating to our needs.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2012 Only complaint was strong odor of air fresheners and laundry products...which are obvious due to location of washer/dryer.
Maureen B. from Forest Ranch, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2012 We've stayed at Bertelsen's before and it is perfect for our group..consisting of 2 Grandparents, 2 parents, a Three year old and an older dog!
A guest from Carson, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2012 We really enjoyed our stay. House was clean and well stocked with kitchenware. Watched whales from the porch. Tidepools a mile away. Enjoyed the sandy beach in front of the house. The ocean view is wonderful and relaxing. A great place if you want to be close to activities, yet not in the crowds and noise and traffic of a town.
Terrie K. from Sparks, NV recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2012 This was our 2nd stay at Bertelsen's Barracks. They allow pets, this is why we rented it in the first place. But it is a wonderful place to stay. It is very relaxing, most everything that you need is already there, so you can just play on the Or. coast & relax at the end of the day in a nice house with a fantastic view.
Christie N. from Cottage Grove, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2012 It was our 2nd time staying at Bertelsen's Barracks. We had a great time with our kids and it was very relaxing. We love the Psycho Path!
A guest from Cottage Grove, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2012 very comfortable home, loved the cushy leather couch and chair with ottoman. And the view of the ocean was very beautiful.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2011 Our overall experience was great. We did find a couple of things which could be improved upon. The cookware needs replacing as well as the 'sharp' knives and misc. utensils. We like to cook!
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC We replaced the cookware last week, so it should be really nice for the next we will look into the utensils and knives. Thanks for the suggestions.
Signe L. from Lowell, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2011 Our stay was great ? we've been going to the house for over 25 years (before it was a Bayshore rental). My only disappointment was/is the cleaning expectation when you leave. We pay a good size cleaning fee to rent the house so I was shocked and somewhat surprised at the list of "To-Do's" when you leave the house, on the refrigerator. It seems over the top! Wash the towels, strip the beds, wash all dishes, and do more laundry if the washer is free again. I think the list should be doing the dishes only ? that's acceptable.
Property Manager Response: Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC Gosh, all we ask is that you start a load of towels, empty the garbage, and load the dishwasher. I am not sure where or what you were reading.
Maureen B. from Forest Ranch, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2011 Nice view, kid and dog friendly, comfortable, nice view, short walk to the beach had everything needed in kitchen! Thank-you to the owners for sharing!
Nancy P. from Gladstone, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2011 Bayshore is always so helpful. Thank you for allowing us to check-in early. We were traveling with a handicapped/special needs person and checking in early was very helpful. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.
A guest from Rosefille, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 There was a sewer gas smell that did not go away. Some of the bath towels were frayed. Several of the pots were badly burned on the bottom. The bathroom sink had no plug. etc., etc.
A guest from Keizer, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in December, 2010 Loved the view of storms, waves, whales and ships. Half way to Waldport and Newport for the weeks supplies. Definitely will look for availability again when staying at the coast AND refer to others. Thanks for a great place to stay.
Richard B. from Reno, NV recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2010 We stayed in this property over the Thanksgiving holiday. Overall we were all very pleased. The house was clean with many recent updates (flooring, etc.). Beds were cozy and there was plenty of stuff to cook our turkey dinner with.
A guest from Eagle, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in October, 2010 The toilet and shower were not clean when we arrived. I cleaned it. The kitchen needs help - the lighting is bad (appears to be new but is very dark in there) and the pans need to be replaced. We bought a frying pan we could use. Would be nice to have a baking sheet. It is a nice location with a great view. Comfortable home to vacation in.
A guest from Corvallis, OR does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2010 Our bedroom was a converted garage that was musty and cold (heater worked sporadically), yard man came at noon on Saturday and all we could hear was his weed eater while we were trying to relax and listen to the waves, antagonistic notes posted at property...I could go on but I won't.
Becky A. from Kennewick, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2010 2nd time in this home. We enjoy area, view and deck a lot. The main living area smelled like pet urine. It was really strong when we had to turn on the heater at night. Last year when we stayed we had the same smell, probably a bit stronger. It would be better if there was tile in the main living area instead of carpeting...? We also love the set up of the home. My mother had her own suite. We probably will try another home the next time we come to the coast.
The carpet smelled of dog urine. It was so strong we had to open the windows several just to kee p from gagging. We had to purc
Ralph T. from Richardson, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 14 days in July, 2010 The pet fee should be applied to cleaning the carpet. I really like the unit, but not would rent again due to the smell.
Sandy J. from Eugen, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2010 Bertelsen's Barracks has a long, open living room/kitchen space with a fantastic view and a great deck. Big leather couches are super comfy, and so are the beds. Close to remarkably fascinating Ona Beach. Not our first visit here and not our last!
Stephen Brent S. from Salem, Oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2010 We had a great stay. The house was wondefull! Please don't tell anyone as we don't want it to get too popular!
Veronica K. from Eugene, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2010 The home was devine and with a fabulous view. The furnishings were clean and comfortable. Decorations were lovely. I appreciated the well stocked kitchen. I have recommended this place to 2 people already! Thank You for the lovely stay!
A guest from Bend, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2010 The view from this home cannot get any better! And the short wake down to a very interesting beach is nice; it?s more of a rocky beach over a large expanse of sand but you can find many more interesting things on this beach! Bertelsen?s Barracks is much nicer then a hotel/motel room! Dan Davis.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2010 The beach was great. The house was nice. WiFi worked great, TV and DVD worked well. Shower heads were fairly short so it was a little hard to take a shower. Over all a great place for the price.
Leslie P. from Salem, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2010 The title says it all. Good weather or bad - nothing spoils the view inside the house or out on the deck. The view west seems to be endless (watch for whale spouts!) as does north and south. The view is followed up by the house having WIFI. As much as we like to 'get away from it all', being connected for email, a little (school) work or connect with friends (Facebook) there is never any issue with getting on. Our third reason, we can bring our woof. It is pet friendly and has a nice neighborhood walk for her (of course being a responsible pet owner!). The downsides...cell phone usuage is not, so be sure and give a family member the house phone so if needed for an emergency - a phone call can be made. Another small downside, the write up says queen beds in the two rooms - pretty small queens or hefty fulls. The beds are very comfortable, but if you're sharing be sure you like to be cozy in bed! We also notice little things like the dishwasher is very quiet! The furniture is very comfy and easy to take a nap on! The kitchen lighting, while plenty in the ceiling, the wattage could be higher - it's like they are dim - we relied on the under cupboard lighting to prepare meals. Will we stay again? ABSOLUTELY. Oh, and the Bayshore staff - what a pleasure to work with them! We've rented for several years and several different houses and have never been disappointed with a house or getting help with the staff - they are terrific (and can help find the 'perfect' house)!
