Hawaiian for "Village By The Sea," the Kauhale Makai complex is an oceanfront property located in Kihei. This is one of a few buildings in the area with a new central air conditioning system - not window units. This condo stays as cool as you like it. Kihei is perfect for families, romantic couples, or anyone wanting relaxation as well as quick and easy access to world class dining and entertainment. Just a hop-and-a-skip south down the road is the famous nightlife and dining of Wailea, and their world class shopping and golf courses. Just up the road north is the historic town of Lahaina. A nice place to live in Jing Z. from Santa Rosa, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in March, 2016 A very nice condo. Has plenty of stuff that make our vacation fun, such as a small cooler, two boogie boards, lots of bath towers and kitchen stuff. The only thing that I hope to improve is the bed.
NOT what I expected A guest from Riverside, CA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in March, 2016 The condo was nice but, stinky, musty, view of the parking lot. We were very disappointed.
Kauhale Makai #104 for a retired lady A guest from Sun Prairie, WI - Wisconsin recommends this property.
Stayed for 5 days in January, 2016 I loved being at Kauhale makai. It is on the ocean side, so Kihei Rd. traffic noise is hardly an issue. My neighbors were quiet, and I could walk a few steps to the ocean and the beach. There is a vacant lot next to KH, which will have construction noise on it at some point. The condo rooms were spacious for me and would still be with 1 other person. The decor was nice. The building is showing wear with rust on door hinges and wear at wood trim but did not cause me a problem. The walls and ceiling could be painted. The sliding glass door has a screw at the base for safety, so be sure to screw that in when you arrive. The screen door did not lock. KH had a parking space, but the bus stop is a few steps away, so for $4/day I traveled all over Maui and to my meeting at the Grand Wailea. I chose KH for budgeting, and would like to have paid closer to $115 than $139, so I could only stay a few days. I saw 1 termite and 1-2 mosquitos but no other unwanted "guests." The TV was easy to work with 1 remote. It had Netflix which I did not access. I did not use the dvd/cd player. I would stay here again if the price is right. The staff always said hello, check in was easy, checking out was easy, the travel concierge was helpful.
Stay elsewhere Reviewed by: Robert/Elaine W. does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 8 days in January, 2016 Vacation outside of the rental = 10Vacation inside rental = 0Unit smelled of mold/mildew; kitchen sink and bathtub were stained; pots and pans were in very poor condition; few glasses matched; dishes were old and scratched; plastic taped to wall behind toilet; 3rd adult in our party had to stay elsewhere b/c of odor and the only bathroom was accessed through bedroom.
Amazing condo patricia m. from cremona, AB recommends this property.
Stayed for 16 days in December, 2015 We arrived at the condo to find it stocked with many items to make our trip enjoyable from beach chairs, pool toys and condiments, salt pepper and so on. It saved us on having to stock up on those things. The condo was very clean and the grounds were awesome with the pool, hot tub and the BBq's.
Unit 104 - Village by the Sea A guest from Avoca, Nebraska recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in December, 2015 It was fine. not exactly like some of the pictures. The view from the patio is the front of our car, not a putting green. :) Sofa needs a deep cleaning from sweaty people sleeping on it.
Nice stay in Kihei Paul E. from Redmond, Oregon recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in December, 2015 The unit was nice, had a lot of beach items in the room. Close to the beach, just a short walk across grassy area. The parking space was right out the back door of the unit. We really enjoyed our stay.
Awesome for the money A guest from Salem, OR recommends this property.
Stayed for 14 days in November, 2015 My husband and I were happy with the condo we rented for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We had an issue with the toilet loose on the floor, but it was fixed quickly. It was convenient that the parking site was right off the Lanai. We did not have to make trips back and forth from the parking lot. The A/C was great too. We were happy with our stay in Kihei since it was in a great location to access all of the island.
Great for the price Kim S. from FOSTER CITY, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in October, 2015 This condo is well equipped with kitchen necessities and even had a rice cooker which we did not expect. The beach chairs, towels, snorkel set and cooler improved our beach experience as well. Overall, the condo was clean and pleasing. The one complaint we had was that it smelled like mildew. I think they'd had a moisture problem before we arrived. Hopefully, future guests do not have this problem. We did enjoy the location. We are in Maui to go kitesurfing. When the wind was right we were able to rig and go from the beach right in front of complex. A stop in the hot tub on the way back was an added bonus. The parking spot is right in front of the glass slider. This was very convenient for loading and unloading. The hideaway bed is ok for little kids, but let's just say I was glad I was not sleeping on it. One of the corners is not supported and sags through the frame. It really needs replacing.Looking out the condo and across the parking lot you have a view of the ocean.

Stayed for 13 days in July, 2015 We needed a getaway from our hectic schedules, so seeking on line we found numerous, great looking, sites - but one definitely caught our eye. 3 days in Maui Robert F. from Brownsburg, IN recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in March, 2015 1st time renting a private condo. Now our 1st choice price permitting. Location perfect for our needs. 1 block N+/- of the beginning of the strip of restaurants, shopping, and traffic on S. Kihei rd. But traffic easily avoided if going eslewhere. Would stay here again. Building well maintained and on site staff excellent! Grounds/pool well maintained and quiet. Spent 1 day at pool, beach and cooked on the BBQ other guests and residents all inviting. Property is 'beach front' 150 yards +/- from beach, which appears little used. Had the beach to ourselves for 1/4 mile in each direction at SPRING BREAK. Safe and Calm waters not sure if norm so double check. Our ground floor unit lanai overlooked park lot, was turn-off at 1st but honestly was pleasant as is higher than cartops w/Nice views towards west mtns & a partial view of the harbor. Close to roadside w/occasional road noise, noticeable outside, not very inside. wifi, tvs with cable in MB and LR a +. Nice stock of kitchen and dishware, snorkel gear and beach chairs a nice +. A sturdy plastic cooler for use would be nice. No complaints about location, building, or in general the unit interior for the cost. Interior is 'average' to slightly +. Curtains brown w age. Maser Carpet dirty, musty, likely mid 90s aged berber, matted in places. consider non-slip light wood laminate. Bath access only via Master Bedroom is a -. Vents need deep clean. Drapes need cleaned/replaced. Rod in LR comes off easily. Both security doorstops are inop. LR stop plug broken, MBR door does not align w its stop gap. The Bed frame in Master is very noisy.
Property Manager Response: Response from Rentals Maui, Inc. Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again in the future.

Stayed for 5 days in February, 2015 PROS:-Amazing air indoors- not humid/sticky at all as was the case with our other condos-Location-Designated parking stall right outside the living room glass sliding windows..loved this feature!!CONS:-Bathroom located within master...not ideal if there are others staying in the condo.

Stayed for 7 days in January, 2015 Location is good but Kihei road is very noisy all day and night. No privacy on the porch, no place to eat outide, a little patio table and chairs wouls have beenice. Place is clean but bathtub is stain and looks dirty, not inviting. Carpet near bathroom in bedroom is dirty or stained, not inviting. Pots and pans are discusting. Teflon frying pans are all scratched, very unhealthy. If people rent condos, it is understood that they will cook!Need proper cooking utensils.
Good homebase A guest from Mata Utu, Wallis Island recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in January, 2015 Everything went smoothly. The condo is in a good spot if you're wanting to visit the rest of Maui. Only downfall was the pull-out sofa-bed that was quite uncomfortable. The bed in the bedroom is fine though. All in all a good stay.
Property Manager Response: Response from Rentals Maui, Inc. This cute little unit located centrally to everything in Maui is a great find. We will test out the sofa-bed to see what we can do about the comfort level. Mahalo.

Stayed for 5 days in October, 2014 Easy access to our car. Swimming pool was nice, 8' deep end. No direct access to a swimming beach. No restaraunts within walking distance. Good hot water, good water pressure. Appreciated the beach chairs and umbrella.
Great location and away from the crowd Bo C. from Long Beach, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 5 days in October, 2014 The parking is right out side of the door. Very quiet place. The pool, hot tub and bbq grill are wonderful but the kitchen has everything already. Also the unit has complete snorkeling gear which is a plus. The only thing we had a problem with was the WIFI that didn't work.
Property Manager Response: Response from Rentals Maui, Inc. We apologize for any WIFI issues you experienced. We have an on island technician that assists with any issues when our office is contacted. We will send someone over today to check out the internet. Thank you for your comment.
Good but not great Robert G. from Laval, QC recommends this property.
Stayed for 6 days in August, 2014 This unit has plenty of room.Problem is with humidity. You can smell it (in the cushions, furniture etc.) Some mildew over the A/C.Unit is a little too close to the road.
Maui no ka oi! Carole B. from Tampa, FL recommends this property.
Stayed for 13 days in June, 2014 This rental is by far the best value on Maui!!! It is well appointed, roomy, clean, with a super view and great amenities! Love the tile whale on the bottom of the pool! Only wished the hot tub was open earlier.
Good value in central location A guest from Richmond, BC recommends this property.
Stayed for 4 days in May, 2014 It was a very enjoyable experience and was very convenient to have a place which was so useful with the kitchen and all the amenities provided. Felt very homey
Parking lot view.... A guest from Piedmont, Quebec does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 6 days in April, 2014 The condo 104, was well equipped, clean and well furnished. We didn't like the location of this appartment in the buiding, straight on the parking lot, no intimacy. There was a patio, but impossible to have our meal on it. No dinner table, and to have our meal close to the parkimg lot.....
Winter in Maui Barb A. from Thunder Bay, ON recommends this property.
Stayed for 74 days in December, 2013 The property was good value for the cost. The condo is roomy for two, and was comfortable for our son who stayed on the pull out couch for a week. The grounds are very nice and the staff was always helpful and friendly. There was a small leak under the sink that was fixed promptly. Have reserved through Kathy Englert four times now and have never been disappointed.Cons-The hot tub is only turned on from 4 pm to 10 pm. Food is not allowed in the pool area.

Stayed for 8 days in October, 2013 Overall good experiance. Maintenance work was being done on other units and they posted notices (noise, water shut offs, etc...) within24 hours of work so we could plan for our days. Unit was clean with lots of beach towels and extras like chairs, snorkels a body board. Only issue was at checkin - its a good thing we printed and brought all documents and had all info with us, the management had no idea we were checking in. However we will be back, great location and quiet!

Stayed for 5 days in September, 2013 Extremely happy with all aspects of this property. Suggest they install a safety bar, or safety latch that works on the main sliding glass door from the living room. Place was a perfect location and very nicely stocked. Would stay again if I make it back to Maui.
Nice Place A guest from Maintal, Maintal recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in May, 2013 Everthing was perfect. we was disappointed about the beach infront of the plant. In Kaanapali are better beaches. Bute the stay at kauhale makai was awesome. Really clean and you got everthing you need. The wifi works slowly but it was ok. Thanks for all.
great location and great place to stay, enjoy your vacation Moe S. from Honolulu, HI recommends this property.
Stayed for 4 days in May, 2013 We are from Honolulu. The room we stayed was quiet, very convenient. quite clean. It was worth it what we pay for, can't complain about it. We will stay there definitely when we visit to Maui again. We are very happy and enjoy our trip, to stay in Kauhale Makai. We were glad what we did choose the right place. Again, will stay there again. Mahalo n Aloha.
Ahmazing !!!! John B. from Merced, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 6 days in April, 2013 This was our first time to Hawaii and we would highly recommend going to Maui and especially staying here at this condo. The view was pretty darn good especially from lower floor. Condo had everything we needed even some extra snorkel gear for my Hot wife and myself. Make sure you visit Burgers in Paradise in Lahaina. Tim Schooler the manager is all about customer service. Black Rock is awesome for snorkeling, get there early pay the parking and enjoy. Mahlaina over at Boss Frogs on Kihei Rd in Kihei is very knowledgeable and honest. The feast at LeLe in Lahaina is the best. We can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay and the best part was not having to worry about the condo was very relaxing. We stopped at Costco on way in from airport picked up some good and enjoyed breakfast every morning out on the lanai with a gorgeous view of the ocean and hills of Maui. We are looking at buying a condo in this complex. LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!!!!!
Nice place A guest from Anchorage, AK recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in February, 2013 Overall a very nice place to stay. Well kept, clean apartment. The front door could use some updating as far as the lockbox, but it works. A minor problem with the dishwasher was handled quickly by the management folks. I would stay there again.
A mostly good review A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in February, 2013 We were surprised to find that we had to provide our own toilet paper after we used the initial 2 rolls. Our internet access seemed to be intermittent. Otherwise everything was great. Plenty of clean kitchen ware, bedding and towels. Our view was mainly parking lot but it wasn't noisy and the ocean was in the background.
Kauhale Makai #104 Susan E. from El Cajon, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in January, 2013 Overall our experience was good. We were surprised (disappointed) more basics like toilet paper and soap were not provided for the week. (One partial roll) My husband was concerned that the sliding doors were not more secure and bulbs were burned out in the bathroom.
Three cheers to a perfect stay in every way! John P. from Bellingham, WA recommends this property.
Stayed for 5 days in January, 2013 Everything we needed was in our condo. Fresh linens & towels, a fully stocked kitchen equipped with cups for the beach. Nothing was left out! The conveniences of having a washer & dryer just down the hall as well as the pool & hot tub were great. a short walk to the beach was a plus. I would definitely recommend this special spot in Maui.
Nice and private A guest from Lake Peekskill, NY recommends this property.
Stayed for 2 days in January, 2013 MY only complaint was the cleanliness. I also had to wait an hr. for the cleaner to finish. She parked in my spot. It was not clean enough for my standards, mostly superficial, although linens were o.k. The cleaner was pregnant and I guess working slow and minimal. The pots were inadequate. The rugs in the bathroom need to be replaced. Aside from the cleanliness, the apartment was nice, amenities were great, and well situated.
Very happy with our stay! Sharmaine P. from West Kelowna, BC recommends this property.
Stayed for 11 days in December, 2012 We really enjoyed our stay in this condo. Nice layout and comfortable beds. The only thing it lacked was beach towels and shade umbrella which we bought at Longs just down the road. Nice place for a good price.
Maui 2012 Trip A guest from Puyallup, WA recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in October, 2012 The rental was quick and easy to locate from the airport. The location was great and the ocean views were wonderful!! The rental was clean, well stocked with supplies, close to grocery stores and restaurants, and had amble space for both of us, but would also be adequate for 4 people. We felt the location was within easy access to many of the places to see on the island. Of course, who could not be delighted with the weather!!!!

Stayed for 4 days in October, 2012 We stayed at the Kauhale Makai #104 in October and loved it! The condo was immaculate, the ocean view from the lanai was to die for and the folks on-site were helpful too. We are already planning our next trip!

Stayed for 7 days in April, 2012 Some bugs inside the condo, not the end of the world considering the rate here. Don't forget anything in the condo because we did and it was a nightmare trying to get stuff back, and when we finally did, it was damaged by housekeepers.
Nice Location, Affordable Condo Maryann B. from Innisfree, Alberta recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in April, 2012 This condo was very clean and spacey for our stay in Maui, it had everything for a nice vacation. Stayed for 13 days in March, 2012 Very nice property. Loved the swimming pool. It was great for the kids. Clean, very well kept, convenient to get to activities, beach, restaurants, etc. Can watch a beautiful sunset from the lawn in front of the property. Also, even being on the first floor, we had partial view of the ocean from our back door. Also, was very easy to deal with the management company when we rented this unit. They were very accomodating and helpful.

Stayed for 4 days in September, 2011 It was a great experience loved the island and the people, great service! but the bed is a little worn out didn't get a good sleep but still had a great time.
Not as advertised- beach-unkept grass-north facing Roger & Laurie W. from Lewistown, MT does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 10 days in January, 2011 At first glance we wanted to run the other way. This condo ad is very misleading!! After finding a nice beach to go to we settled in a little but never really unpacked. The Kauhale Makai sits about one block from the ocean but you don't have to cross the street to get to the ocean,so I suppose that is where the term oceanfront/beachfront comes from. What you have to walk across to get to the beach is long unkept grass. (All the other condos in area had theirs mowed nicely.)Then when you arrived at the beach it was about 6 feet wide sand strewn with rocks and no way could one sit on the beach there. The water was very brown and murky, something I would not want to swim in! We were told the condos had lounge chairs there(beach) which isn't true-there wouldn't be room for them on the sand anyway!!! Unit #104 faces north, so there was never any sun to sit in on our lanai...something you really look forward to when you come from Montana!!! Also, it didn't face the beach at all, and our view was the parking lot and mountain. :0( I would not recommend a ground floor unit to anyone as everyone walking by or parking can see right in. NO PRIVACY at all so we left our shades drawn most of the time. :0( I feel we were very mislead in this unit and will not return, however, we did find nice sand and ocean farther south in Wailea and Makenna, which is where we will go if we return to Maui. There was no screen on one sliding glass door which was replaced right away, and we purchased chairs for the beach, which we were told we will be refunded for, so the company did work with us some. The unit was not spotless by any means, many smudges on woodwork, etc, and rusty places on appliances. All in all this place was not the best. Thank heavens good swimming and food were within 15 to 30 min drive!!!
Kihei area of Maui is best. Mike K. from Ottawa, ON recommends this property.
Stayed for 9 days in December, 2010 Although we did experience a mud slide from the mountainside, Kihei, is a great location to spend your winter vacation. It is a drier climate than the other side of Maui and is centrally located so you can access any part of the island within a very short period of time. There are bike paths along side most of the roadways in this area and it is relatively flat. The whales are seen from the beach and you can park just about anywhere. Beach access is available to anyone and not restricted to the large resort customers. Although our condo at Kauhale Makai was on the beach, there are other beaches that are more attractive so it is a good plan to visit them during your stay. The price to stay here was quite affordable when you consider the prices you may pay at a larger resort which you may never leave during your vacation. We enjoy exploring the entire island so we did not expect to have all the frills an all inclusive might have. We got up every morning, had our own coffee made in our kitchen , had a small breakfast outside on the deck looking out to the mountains, accessed the weather and made plans for the day. Our car was parked 15 ft away from our door making unloading easy. The room was quiet, and clean but did have a moldy, tropical smell. Something for easterners to get used to. The unit also advertised it slept 4 but I'm thankful we did not bring our friends or anyone else. two is very comfortable, They have a pullout couch but the bathroom is in the main bedroom which would make midnight visits a bit awkward. I would reccomend this type of unit to an adventureous couple that needed a clean, affordable, accomadations where they could cook the occasional meal on the communal BBQ, or in the fully stocked kitchen, and venture out to all the Maui attractions without planning a major excursion because of the location. Have fun! We sure did!!
Lovely, neat and clean unit. Keith S. from Kelowna, BC recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in April, 2010 A great unit, unfortunately it is on the dark side of the building and doesn't get the sun until 3:30. This may be good in the heat of the summer. Location of building requires a car to get anywhere except the Pacific Whale Foundation Center. Very friendly and helpful visits with others at poolside are good to give you inside info on Maui if you are new.
Great value for the location. I felt safe, unit was clean and had all I required re: kitchen etc. BBQ's are a great place to mee A guest from Richmond, BC recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in March, 2010 This complex was friendly, clean and right on a great walking beach. My unit(104) was right on the parking lot however I heard very little road noise as their quiet time is 10:00pm to 8:am. I would definitely recommend this complex to anyone.
