House was Awesome, just don't leave anything behind.
CARL G. from Yakima, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2016 Our stay was awesome. Our only concern was that we had accidentally left a binder with almost 100 DVD's on the TV stand. I'm sure the cleaning crew got them. I called and they told me they would have someone go look for it, & call me back. They never called, so I guess the DVD's just vanished. Probably won't stay there again.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals I apologize for you not getting contacted back concerning this! The housekeeper wasn't notified of the DVD's and left them at the rental. We will be happy to pick them up and ship them to you.
Jacob B. from Gresham, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2016 We had a lot of fun. Its a beautiful home with lots of space for three or four average size family's. We rented it about ten years ago and it was as nice today as it was then. My only suggestion or heads up would be that it doesn't offer Wi-Fi but besides that it had everything and we will definitely rent it again.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and will recommend the addition of WIFI to the owners. We hope we can help you plan your next vacation here at the beach.
Paul L. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2015 Plus - really does sleep 16, nice grill with installed gas line, ample space, beautiful wood construction, short walk to beach, and overall very clean.Cons - no internet, no panty essentials other than some salt/pepper. Could of used some sugar, cooking oil, foil, and other kitchen basics. The house only includes the bare necessities.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals Thank you for your review of Captain's Hideaway. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay. We value your opinion and will forward your recommendations to the owners for the kitchen basics.
Julie N. from Long Beach, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in September, 2015 We enjoyed our stay in this house. It was spacious, decorated beautifully, and well maintained. The only complaints were the lack of screens on most of the windows so we couldn't leave them open for fresh air and the location. It was on a busy main road and not as close to downtown Manzanita as I had thought.
Heidi P. from Valleyford, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in August, 2015 Our stay at Captains Hideaway was very comfortable, cozy yet spacious!! Our family loves to cook and the large kitchen was fantastic!! The only thing missing in the kitchen was a coffee grinder;-). The large garage worked great for laying out scuba gear and day packs! The layout really is ideal for keeping sand out of living quarters!! Thank you so much!! We will return!!
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2015 We have stayed here many times as a quilt group. This time there were a few things we discovered that need attention. The upstairs toilet tank is dripping on the floor behind it. The downstairs bathroom light switch needs to be replaced as it is very touchy to get the light to stay on. There was no laundry detergent for us to start laundry before we left. Heat does not work well downstairs. Please provide more blankets on the bed.
A guest from Aloha, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2014 We have been using the Captain's Hideaway for out many years to get together and sew. There is lots of daylight and space to spread out.
A guest from Vancouver, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2014 For 13 years my friends and I have a long weekend of catching up, The Dune and golf each fall. Sometimes 12 of us make it, sometimes 16, this place is a perfect accomodation. Reasonably priced and close to our activities.
A guest from Newport, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2014 The house is really nice without feeling posh, modern with lots of light wood inside, very open architecture, pleasantly decorated with a consistent nautical theme. Kitchen is well laid-out and equipped. The house is located fairly far from the beach and quite far from 'down town' Manzanita but is nestled against the beautiful Neahkahnie forest below Hwy 101. The road in front carries a lot of local traffic to and from the highway which often travels fairly fast, so care is needed when backing out of the driveway. There is no wi-fi, so plan on trips to the library or other wi-fi enabled local businesses like Manzanita News & Espresso if you need to connect to the Net without cellular. Probably best to rent somewhere else if you have trouble with stairs, however. The lower floor has a small common room and full bathroom with 2 bedrooms which enables 2 centers of interaction in the same structure, if desired. It easily served our party of 10 very well (and will handle up to 16 for sleeping). We enjoyed our stay and intend to return in the future.
Jerri M. from Boise, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2014 We loved staying at the Captain's Hideaway. Everything you could possible need was provided, including the bbq grill! The house was spacious. Totally easy to "unplug" and be in Manzanita! Great walk to the beach and easy bicycle to town.
A guest from Moses Lake, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2014 We loved renting this place. It was large and accommodated 8 of us comfortably. The large screen TV in the living room with the blu-ray player was nice. It was great sitting out on the deck. It was a 10 min. walk to the beach. We were disappointed that it did not have wireless internet available.
A guest from Newberg, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2014 Our group of 15 had an absolutely wonderful stay. We were all very pleased with the accommodations, especially the spacious open floor plan of the upstairs. Everyone had comfortable places to sleep, there were ample linens and supplies, and the house was extremely clean. I liked the setting in the trees, and the large covered porch. The kitchen was a great set-up for cooking and serving large meals as well. Thank you for providing a great retreat for our group!
Gina A. from Brownsville, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2013 We had a wonderful time in this open, comfortable and well kept home. Would recommend to stay and at very reasonable rates. :) Thank You!
Debby D. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2013 Thanks again for contributing to another great weekend away from work. We had a wonderful time and appreciate the extra bedding left out for the futons. We did leave a comment about the fridge, it might be running too long, especially at night... you might want to check it.
Sandra C. from Hillsboro, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2013 I did not give this property a 5 star on general condition or location only because some light bulbs were missing, some outlets did not work and the ceiling fan did not work. The location was far from town and a long 7 blocks to the beach on a narrow road, not safe for a stroll. Other than that it was a very nice house. I would probably not stay here again only because I would like to be closer to the beach.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2013 The great room is perfect for many people to all hang out in the same area, which was great for our group. The porch leads off of the living room area very nicely. The kitchen was wonderful to work in. We enjoyed the experience very much. The house was quite a walk from the beach (10-ish minutes) and even longer from the main street of Manzanita, which was our only complaint. But the size was perfect for our needs.
Robert L B. from Pasco, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2013 The home was great not as close to the beach as we like but just a short walk .The home was fantastic would recommend to anyone we had a great time. thank you
A guest from portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013 This home is perfect for a large family to come together to spend time lounging on the deck or in the great room spending time chatting, relaxing and hanging out. The house is only 10 minutes walking distance to the beach and is often times sheltered from the wind and harsher weather other homes get right on the beach.
Jean H. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in May, 2013 We had a really great stay at the Captain's Hideaway. Our only disappointment was one of the bathroom sinks broke during our stay. That made for some problems since we had 7 people who were using that bathroom upstairs.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2013 We always love it there and the weather was wonderful. We were not able to use the barbeque for some reason, but it did not make our stay any less wonderful.
Debby D. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2012 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we always do. Thanks for enabling us to once again have an economical beach retreat; we definately will be doing it again in April. The under sink kitchen cabinet door does need a new felt stop. It can be very noisy when it is closed.
A guest from Seattle, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2012 Our family had a wonderful weekend at "Captain's Hideaway". There were 10 of us and it was nice to have space for everyone and a table big enough for the crowd! We enjoyed sitting out in the sun on the deck while playing games and reading. The beach was a short 10 minute walk away.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2012 The house itself is quite nice. Good layout, with two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs, nice kitchen, decks, grill. The location is not really ideal for walking. It's a brisk 10-minute walk along a quite busy road (no shoulder) to get to the beach. Ok for adults, not so great for young kids. The walk into town is quite long. In the past we've stayed in South Manzanita (near the golf course) and really appreciated being able to easily walk to the park, ice cream, beach etc. I probably would not choose this location again.
Debra L. from Gilbert, AZ recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2012 Overall, we were satisfied, though the dog kennel enclosure was unusable due to a large hole in the chain link fence and another at the base where a previous dog had dug through. The cable tv was not working upstairs so we only watched DVDs, which was not a concern for us. There were a few things that need attention: the bbq grill needs to be repaired, only half the burners ignite, the ceiling fan in the upstairs king bedroom does not work, and there is some mildew that should be removed in the downstairs bathroom. The house is VERY well stocked with plenty of linens, towels, dishes, pots, pans, etc. It would have been nice if the downstairs king bedroom had a usable closet or place to put luggage, we had to bring in chairs and set our suitcases on them for the week and had no place to hang clothes. We were VERY satisfied with our stay, would definitely stay again and would recommend to our friends! Thank you for a great vacation experience :)
A guest from Spokane, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2012 Manzanita has a lovely beach! The house was clean and perfect for large groups. The kitchen was well stocked and it's nice to have laundry available. The water heater kept up nicely with alot of people. The dog kennel has a hole that the medium sized dog could escape from but other then that, we loved it! I highly recommend this property for large groups!
A guest from Bellevue, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2012 Really love the house it's our third time going to the Captain's Hideaway. It's a great house for two large families or large group.
Debby D. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2012 My fellow quilters and I love to come to Manzanita during the off season just to finish up some projects and have some fun. We always stay at Captain's Hideaway and love it!
A guest from West Linn, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2012 We loved our stay - we would like to see the furniture on the deck washed off so we could use it with out cleaning first. Overall our quilt group throughly enjoyed your space - I have two groups now that we spend time at this property and we love it.
Solid home in Manzanita, good for a group or family.
A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2011 The key to this home is the great room - that is, the living/dining/kitchen. The soaring ceiling and walls of windows make it a wonderful space. Wish there was a stereo, and better lighting in the living room, but overall this is a fabulous place, albeit a mental haul (though really just 10 minute walk) to the beach.
Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals Adequate lamps have been added to the living room. We will send your stereo suggestion to the owner
