Open the carved wooden garden gate to reveal a walled oasis dominated by a wonderful freeform swimming pool. The surrounding 2.5m walls are concealed by mature gardens of lush green palms and ferns bursting with Heliconia and Bougainvillea. Frangipani and coconut palms hang over the pool giving a cool shade. The open-sided living areas spill out onto the poolside decking and grassed areas to giving a pleasant feeling of space. Fans turn lazily overhead. Four simple bedrooms (and 1 kid/maid room), all ensuite, sit around the pool in two separate buildings between which lies a shady balé (gazebo). Bangkrai and Merbau floors, bamboo shades, Sirep (Iron Wood) roofing and teak furniture provide strong wood overtones which contrast well with the clean white washed walls of the recently renovated (2007) MahaRaj.

Out of the cul-de-sac and you are in Seminyak itself. Petitenget Beach and the popular beachfront La Lucciola restaurant are just 500m from The MahaRaj Villa. Ku De Ta, The Living Room, Hu’u Bar and other iconic restaurants and bars are in easy walking distance and the main shopping area along Raya Basangkasa is less than 2 km away. Villa MahaRaj is a true in town oasis and the villa staff can guide you as to what is ‘in’ during your visit. Although there are literally 100s of restaurants to choose from, the villa does come with a full time chef as one of the 10 staff. There are also a manager, 3 maids, a gardener and 4 security personnel all of whose presence or lack of can be dictate by you the guest. For those wanting complete privacy there is bell to summon staff who will also handle all provisioning on your account for a small additional fee.
