A Stay At An Artist's Home in 'Paradise' Marilyn T. from Albuquerque, NM recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in September, 2012 Everything was as described on the rental documents, e.g. parking, key, etc. The home has had flooring upgrade recently (?) and is attractive, especially the original designs in the bath and hallway. Many of the Artist's paintings were displayed. Furnishing was eclectic and mostly comfortable. Internet access was good and helpful. There is a vast collection of original pottery - very nice, except it occupied all the shelf space. The view was SUPERB - looking above the canopy trees over the CarlSmith Beach Park, which adjoins the property. Swimming was available in the well-maintained pool or in the ocean at the beach park, anad many residents took advantage of that. Two bedrooms were nice, beds were adequate. The problem was a strong odor of pet urine in the front bedroom that I could not resolve. Otherwise a delightful experience. Thanks to all of you involved in arranging this opportunity. Mahalo |

Building Shabby, Unit Adequate, Would not stay here again A guest from San Diego, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2012 My husband and I stayed 7 days in Kona, then spent 3 days in Hilo to enjoy the attractions on the east side of the island. When we got to the building, the elevator was smelly, building was old and shabby. Check-in was easy as it was self check-in with a lock box. When we got to the unit Maunaloa Shores #403, door was difficult to open, unit smelly despite windows being left opened for us. The unit was very clean, had enough linen and toiletries. Although unit is described as 2 bedrooms and can accommodate 6 people I don't see how 6 or even 4 people could stay comfortably. I would not feel comfortable using the smaller bedroom as there was no privacy. The window coverings in both bedrooms were made of a straw like material (think of a straw beach mat with the straw not densely tied together) that could not be adjusted, only lifted or lowered. My husband went outside into the community hallway and could see nearly everything inside that bedroom even with the lights off. We only used that room for storage of our suitcases and kept that door closed for privacy during our entire stay. The same window covering was on the larger bedroom that faced the bay. Again there was no way to adjust the window covering so there was no sleeping-in during vacation, when the sun came up we woke up. The other reason I don't think 6 people could share this unit is the door of the only bathroom was made of frosted glass, not completely see through, but somewhat. There was no AC, but 3 ceiling fans. We had to keep the windows opened at night and ceiling fan on to be comfortable. Surf and noise from frogs did not bother me, but the sound of the window dressings hitting the window (due to air moving from the ceiling fan) kept me up. No dishwasher, no drying rack for the dishes you wash by hand, but 4 cutting boards. Only TV is in the living room. |

House hunting Laura R. from Hoolehua, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 1 days in May, 2012 This was our second time at maunaloa shores 403 and the location is perfect when house hunting in the hilo area or vacationing. Everything is provided except meals and how can you beat the price, compared to a hotel w/o the amenities the condo offered? Enjoyed my stay and highly recommend this vacation rental. |

Feels like home A guest from Santa Cruz, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in April, 2012 Remarkably beautiful location, away from the tourist spots but close to activities. Swimming wonderful in protected lagoons. Locals very friendly and helpful. Complex is quiet and it feels like old Hawaii. Unit is very comfortable and decorated with great taste. View and patio balcony wonderful for relaxing. Management very responsive to any special needs or requests. Would definitely stay here're again. Feels like home instead of resort ! |

Nice Condo- Excellent Hilo location Cecil H. from Oak Island, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 30 days in March, 2012 Stayed for a month. Great view of the park. Good value. Was surprised there was no dishwasher in the unit. Also, the Lani table and chairs were quite 'flimsy'. Bought some folding beach chairs at Walmart and also used them when we went to the park and other places as well. Overall, a very good rental experience. I had no need to contact the property management company once we arrived in Hilo. |

pictures were deceptive because overall building was moldy A guest from North Vancouver, BC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in February, 2012 Although the swimming cove outside was nice we were very unhappy with the state of the building. The pictures were deceptive - the building is horribly moldy and smelly. When I called about the WIFI no effort at all was made to solve the problem of logging on. Generally a bad experience, we left a night early to find a better place for our final night in Hawaii. Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals While we cannot do anything about the exterior of the condo building, we do insure that the units we manage are impeccably cleaned and cared for, which they all are. We are sorry that your expectations were not met. East Hawaii is not for everyone, but read other reviews for a full picture of what is available here! Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management |

Beautiful place A guest from Northampton, MA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in December, 2011 The condo was immaculate, very comfortable and well-supplied. It is conveniently located near Hilo, groceries, gas, the farmers' market etc. The beach park outside is beautiful with crystal clear water, not crowded, and even a very large, very inquisitive turtle. However, because of the freshwater rivers, the water is very cold! |
