The place
You will be in the historical center of medieval origins of San Mauro Cilento, gracious little town of the Parco Nazionale del Cilento (National Park of Cilento), of a thousand inhabitants, and located 500 meters (about 1,640 feet) above the sea.
The small town of San Mauro Cilento is located on the slopes of Monte (Hill) Stella and it faces the sea. The town is surrounded by lands cultivated with olive groves and splendid oak chestnut woods. Weather is pleasant all year round. Even during hot summers, the temperatures are never too excessive, for they’re milded by the breeze coming from the sea and the fresh air coming from the woods.
Here you will be able to get to know the inhabitants of the place and their simple way of living. You won’t see crowds of tourists but the warm hospitality of a typically Italian southern small town.
From San Mauro Cilento the sea and the golden sand beaches of Acciaroli are easily reached, and during summer you can arrive there with convenient bus trips.
A few feet away from the house you will have shops, bars, restaurants, and a large public parking area.
Its history
Casa Gianluigi is an apartment inside an old stone building which is part of the historical center of San Mauro Cilento. It was built during the medieval times.
The building has a history which is linked to the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire under the hands of the Turks in the middle of the fifteenth century. During that period important families related to the emperor, killed in battle, escaped from Constantinople (Istanbul nowadays ) and headed towards Cilento. It was here that the last heir of the throne of the Empire in the East, Rogerio Paleologo, lived in exile and where the dynasty of the last heirs of the Emperor Constantine was extinguished.
The apartment
Once through a large wooden gate you will enter a courtyard shaded by a large pergola and where there is an old well in the middle of it.
To get to the apartment you will have to climb a staircase of about 30 steps. You will enter a large living-room illuminated by windows and balconies which overlook the tiny square below. In the living-room you will have a table with chairs, a couch and armchairs placed around a working fireplace, and a television.
From the living-room you can reach the kitchen. The kitchen is furnished with a table and chairs and has a small balcony. The kitchen has a four-burner stove, an oven, and a fridge with freezer.
Both double bedrooms are spacious and have windows with a view of the countryside. The bathroom has a shower.
The apartment has been recently restored, and its furnishings are complete and comfortable, with beautiful family furniture.
The terrace
At Casa Gianluigi A you will have a pleasant terrace at your disposal. You reach it after climbing and outdoor staircase of about 20 steps. This staircase is right in front of the entrance door of the apartment.
The terrace will enable you to face from above all the roofs covered with old tiles of the surrounding houses. Your eyes will also meet the valley below and stretch up to sea a bit further.
The terrace is furnished with a large umbrella, a table, chairs, and deck chairs. You will enjoy spending time outdoors, and when the night falls, you will be able to catch the magnificent view of sunsets over the sea.
The beach
The nearest beach is the long golden sand beach of Acciaroli. The water is clean and transparent, and the shallow sandy bottom is perfect even for kids to go for a swim.
If you want you can use the services of the beach establishments of the place, which offer you parking space, umbrellas, and sun loungers. At the beach you will also have bars and restaurants. The climate is mild, and you will be able to go for a swim from late spring to mid autumn.
