Maria H. from Woodbridge, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2016 Perfect fit for our family. We have 4 children and their significant other. They all want their own space and bathroom and this house provided it. House was very convenient to slopes. The basement was great! It provided a space for our youngest and his friend. They had Thier own bath and the ping pong table. The ping pong table was a blast for the whole family, including my 83 yr young mom. It brought her back to the ping pong mama of years back. She championed various competitions.
A guest from haymarket, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2016 Travelers Rest is a great value. With plenty of room to eat sleep and relax, this warm cozy house made for a nice extended family ski cabin. The hot tub is nice and we enjoyed it in the snow with views of Timberline and the sunset. Would recommend and would stay again. Beware the driveway is a bit steep and our two-wheel drive cars took plenty of effort to get out - even with chains - after a few inches of particularly slick snow. 4-wheel drive had no problems.
MARY BETH K. from Charleston, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2016 We stayed @ Travellers Rest during the Thanksgiving weekend. Had a fantastic time! Hot Tub was wonderful!!Everything you would need for cooking was there; wine glasses included. LOL
Reviewed by: Michael G. recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2016 One thing that could be something I missed on the web page is the extra charges for dog friendly, hot tub and administrative fees-an additional $150.00. Taxes I understand. The security person, young man maybe 27 or so at the gate became annoyed when I displayed the car information page provided by the office. He then told me that "he was going to create a internet web page to tell visitors the things they should know".Other than that, and the fact that when I checked out, I forgot to provide the house key which I have placed in the mail. The house was very nice, the hot tub was clean and warm, the beds were just right, the view was wonderful, the kitchen was all you needed. So our experience was excellent and we decided to make plans to return on a more regular schedule.
A guest from Mount Union, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2016 Just got back from a 4 day weekend at Travellers Rest in July 2016. Overall our experience was nice. Only a few negatives we experienced. On was the night of arrival. We had a late check-in. A map was left for us with the wrong location marked. That made it very difficult to find the cabin. Luckily the guard at the gate was very helpful in helping us locate the correct cabin. The other was the grill was not working due to previous people trying to use it as a charcoal grill(gas) and fried the lines. They did replace it with a charcoal grill quickly and since we didn't plan for this, they also brought charcoal and lighter fluid. The house was definitely big enough for our group of 9. Everyone had their own space for sleeping and a private bathroom. The appliances are older so do not expect your food to cook quickly. Overall we had a wonderful time and would definitely think about staying here again.
Michael W. from College Park, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2015 From the photos it looks like this a cabin located deep in the woods. This is hardly the case. It was located in what basically equates to a suburban subdivision but with gravel roads. Seriously, gated and everything. It was super close to Timberline resort so if you're going to ski, its perfect. The cabin itself was nice and had plenty of room, a decent sized kitchen, and a nice patio area.
Good place to stay with great floorplan for large groups.
A guest from Cocoa Beach, Florida recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in December, 2015 The floorplan is excellent for large groups of people, and we enjoyed the extra long dining table. We were thrilled that they accepted our dog too! The inside could use a little updating, especially the kitchen utensils and pans, but overall it was a good stay and we would definitely go again.
A guest from MERCERSBURG, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2015 Come to Canaan 20 years & in many units. Look for Old Timberline, hot tub, right # of bedrooms/beds-for view/location. Unit highest up have been-private w/little road noise or dust. No view except trees. Best describe unit as "serviceable" & Ok for $$, not best have been in-others more $$ (NOT most $$ either). Driveway steep-OK in Fall could be real bear (full pun intended!!) in winter-little room to turn around or for extra cars. W/all 4 bedrooms off combined Great Room/Kitchen & only basement as extra space, was cramped for 8 of us compared to other units. Hear noise from Great Room in bedrooms, like TV. Kitchen Ok--stove slow to heat up & grill took forever to cook pork chops when outside grill out of gas (NOT checked prior to check in). Lots of counter & cupboard space-pots/ pans old & worn -need upgraded & utensils are low quality (can bend spatula in 2 & watch it snap back-great entertainment value-but no use if flipping food). Nice plates! Hot tub new & has multi colored lights that alternate-Cool! Can turn TV & watch from tub-football & baseball playoffs while bubbling! Bedrooms Ok-basic-nothing to put bags on-used chair from other room. Bathrooms are identical & small. Nice towels & new washer/dryer. Basement dark, dank & musty-no windows just sliding door. Enjoyed ping pong, table uneven & lighting awful for serious game. Unit needs TLC & useful upgrades. Had best weather in years, did not spend time inside-instead were golfing, Dolly Sods & did chair lift & Bald Knob hike-great & fairly easy hike. But if bad weather, this unit is cramped for a larger group. Enjoy Best of Canaan & have served us well, especially in comparison to competitors a few horror stories there. Love Canaan-it's my favorite golf course & beauty & variety of outdoors w/Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks, Blackwater Falls & Autumn in all its glory is unequaled. Caught Fall Color at its peak this year & golfed in sunshine not rain or sleet! Great Trip!!
A guest from Johnson city, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2015 Overall, a great place to stay - quiet and peaceful. Our only negative experience was that the cabin smelled musty when we arrived, and the carpet was soaked. When we asked about it at the office the next day, we were told that the carpet had been shampooed the day before we arrived. The carpet was nice and clean, so the shampooing was a bonus, except that it was damp for 2 days, and the cabin smelled of wet carpet. They should have had fans running etc to dry the carpet before we arrived. As I said though, the cabin was spotless and overall we were happy with out stay.
Property Manager Response: Response from Best of Canaan We apologize that the carpet didn't dry as well as we had hoped. We hope you will visit us again.
A guest from Charlottesville, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2015 The house suited all of our needs! The location was perfect for long walks, beautiful overlooks, and quiet nights.
Heather W. from Roscoe, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2015 We stayed an entire week at this cabin. It was great that each bedroom has its own bathroom. Location was wonderful! Weather was gorgeous! Staff was extremely helpful and directed us to another entrance to Dolly Sods. I would highly recommend this management company and this cabin. The only downside was a fewexcellent getaway spot we think entire week and just have internet it was great that each bedroom had its own bathroom. Location was wonderful! Weather was gorgeous! Management company staff was extremely helpful directed us to another entrance to Dolly Sods with some tips about the hike in. I would highly recommend this management company and the cabin. The only down side was that a couple found the bed a little hard. I did not, but I like a firm mattress.
A guest from Washington, DC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2015 We had such a great time in this house. A group of 7 of us stayed in the house for a ski vacation over President's Day weekend. The house is super close to Timberline ski resort. The house itself has a nice open area for hanging out and large bedrooms each with their own bathroom. We had a baby in the house so the basement was a perfect place for us to hang out later at night so we didn't wake the baby. The hot tub and fireplace were also great to keep us warm when we got back from the slopes. Just make sure when you use the fireplace to open the flue first. It took us a minute to figure out why the smoke wasn't going up the chimney!
Kay D. from South Riding, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2014 The house was just right for us and our annual Thanksgiving get-together with family and friends. It was nice to have new linens (sheets, towels, etc.). Well stocked supplies. Stove could use a bit of work. We cook lots on Thanksgiving day; two burner stove that could use some adjustments on knobs, but we managed just fine. House was clean with exception of carpet need good shampoo and toliets seem a bit stained. We loved the openness of the house and plenty of room for a big Thanksgiving dinner and lounging about. Beds were very comfortable. We would definitely come back and stay in Travellers Rest. Thank you so much!
A guest from Allentown, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2012 We had a great time at this house, for a family getaway - other than finding a few mouse droppings and the hot tub being very cold. Loved the fact that all of the bedrooms had separate bathrooms.
