Evelyn N. from Falls Church, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2016 Our stay for the weekend was great. House was ready for us and we enjoyed the ample space. Conveniently located to cross country skiing which was our purpose. I would recommend it.
Amy B. from Oak Ridge, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2015 Spent the holidays here and loved it. Lovely home and perfect location. We could hike, ski, play tennis, and ride bikes right out the door. Surrounded by great hiking and biking trails. Plenty of games and books helped keep us busy when it rained. Hot tub and laundry were great too!
A guest from Silver Spring, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2015 We had a lovely week in Cubby Hole. We were thrilled with the new couch, the new bigger TV for the living room and the new bedding upstairs. These enhancements made our downtime much more comfortable which we needed after all the hiking!
A guest from Stephenson, VA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2015 The house was very dirty. The furniture was so dirty we couldn't even sit on it. It is very dark outside so really hard to walk dogs. It also needs so maintained. We were very disappointed.
Dwight B. from Cape Coral, FLORIDA recommends this property. Stayed for 13 days in August, 2015 We stayed in Cubby Hole almost two weeks in Aug. It's a great cabin with plenty of room inside and out. Nestled in the woods we were able to get out and take hikes and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I would highly recomend it!
Ronald R. from Chestertown, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2015 Well equiped hideaway in the wooded mountains. Stress free, Fresh air with tons of wildlife. We walked several nature trails with our two dogs. We cooked the majority of our meals in the well stocked kitchen. The locals are very friendly and made us feel really welcomed. Amy and Donna make checking in and out a breeze. Will be back in the Fall to see the leaves turn.
Bonnie T. from Cary, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2015 Great rental. Plenty of space, only 2 of us so we stayed downstairs. Great location, nice natural get away. Loved Davis, great restaurants! Hellbender Burritos oh my, ate there 3 times and also great craft beer selections. Sirianni's Cafe for some of the best Italian I've had, and authentic. Dogs loved the area. Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks and Blackwater Falls all a must. Visited Heston Farms in Fairmont, again great food and samples of wine and shine. Weather was gorgeous, came home to NC and humidity and 100 plus! Replace the broken broom only negative form lodgings.
Barbara M. from Glyndon, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2015 This was our second year in a row at the Cubby Hole. As birders it puts us right in the center of the "action" yet close to amenities - mostly FOOD! The folks at "Best of Canaan" could not have been nicer which is why we keep going back to them. The only change I would make is to get a much larger TV in the living room. We happened to be there during the French Open and could barely see the play. Minor inconvenience. Everything we needed was there otherwise. We will be back again next year for certain, chasing warblers and enjoying our down time at the Cubby Hole. Oh by the way, Sirianni's serves the best pizza in the world, other offerings as well. We hit both locations, the one in Davis and the one in the bottom of Landis Realty across the pond from Big John's. For breakfast we like the spot down 32 by Land of Canaan. Delicious pancakes.
A guest from Cockeysville, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2015 A spacious cabin, perfect location for hiking/biking/horseback riding. Very friendly and helpful staff. We plan to return to experience this beautiful area in all four seasons!
Katherine J. from bethesda, maryland recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in January, 2015 The rental was wonderful though the dishwasher is broken, parts disconnected inside. Also for our family of 6 there was not enough sitting room in the family room but otherwise it was fabulous!
A guest from State College, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2014 We stayed at the Cubby Hole over the Christmas week, and while the snow conditions were not suitable for cross country skiing, we were able to ski both Timberline and Canaan Valley ski resorts, each of which had a few runs open. The layout of the Cubby hole is excellent, open plan downstairs plus an extra sitting area upstairs, which the kids used for setting up their X-box (a Christmas essential for our 16 yr son!). All the bedrooms have TV's, in addition to the living room. We did not end up using them, but it's worth knowing that they are there. As far as location, this is a great place to be, it's an easy hike or cross country ski to the Whitegrass cross country ski center, which is not only a great resource if there is sufficient snow, but also has a neat cafe and bar open lunch times all week and evenings at the weekends. Our only issues with the Cubby Hole was the awful dishwasher, which did not get anything clean, I think it needs to be looked at if not replaced. Knowing that knives in rental properties are generally blunt, we brought our own, but found that the glass chopping boards made these blunt within no time, I suggest you take a plastic or wooden chopping board with you if this kind of thing would annoy you too.Overall I highly recommend the Cubby Hole as a good place to stay, maybe check with Best of Canaan to see if the kitchen issues have been addressed.
Aisha M. from Rockville, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2014 I visited with my mom (in her late 60s) and we wanted to just have time together somewhere different. We had a wonderful, relaxing experience in the Cubby Hole, everyone at Best of Canaan was friendly, our time in the house was AWESOME, it was clean, roomy, warm and bright. The hot tub is a plus! Would go back
Reviewed by: KATHLEEN O. recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2014 We were very pleased with Cubby Hole as it felt more like a home than a vacation rental. The house was very well decorated and comfortable with modern appliances and a great layout. Highly recommended.
Donna N. from Harrison Township, MI recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2014 We had a wonderful time and loved Cubby Hole. It was very comfortable and cozy. The only comment we have is that the surface is clean but the cabin could stand to be cleaned thoroughly on a quarterly basis such as remove cob webs from lights, dust blinds, vents and molding. If that build up were removed the cabin would be perfect. We loved the cabin and beautiful area around it. We will visit again.
A guest from Oakton, Virginia recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2014 Nice wooded property with enjoyable walks just outside the front door. Not coffee drinkers but we brought our own teapot thanks to comments from another renter. Needs more glasses. Would rent again.
A guest from Pittsfield, MA recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in September, 2014 We would definitely return. Well put together cabin/home. Just as described. Had everything we needed. We brought our own blender. Very nice flowing, open floor plan. Nestled in the trees. Great area to walk right out your door with your dog.
Gregg H. from Wheeling, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2014 This is the second straight year my family and I have stayed at this house. Absolutely perfect. Definitely making a return trip next year.
A guest from waynesville, Ohio recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2014 We stayed for a family reunion trip. Loved being able to take our dog with us. Great location to everything we needed. Went trail riding with Timberline - lots of fun.
Barbara M. from Glyndon, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2014 We were heading out to Canaan Valley for birding and a search led us to Cubby Hole. Loved the property for its convenience to all our birding spots and to Davis for vittles. Beds were comfortable, hot tub was private and very soothing, laundry room a plus allowing us to pack less for our week of wandering. Our only issues were a cook I felt the kitchen needed a few things ( cheese grater, more glasses - regular and wine, paring and chef's knives). The gravel road lead up to the house ( the whole area is like this) was annoying for those of us with low slung cars. Having said it all we would definitely come back.
Richard C. from Winchester, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2014 These are well designed cabins in a reasonably open resort. Great location winter or summer. 15 fry pans and no kettle to boil water - but hey I'm English! Decor as it shows , others mention size of TV ( what did you get away for) however I was suprised to find no means to play music, not even a radio. We would stay at this resort again not necessarily this cabin.
Maya K. from Baltimore, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2014 Really loved Cubby Hole - cozy and comfortable, beautiful hot tub right outside the back door, Best of Canaan was great to work with, and we could ski right down to White Grass. We certainly hope to go back!
Michael M. from Clendenin, WV does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2013 Nice vacation home but needed a good cleaning. Located close the Timberline 4 Seasons Resort and that was good. The biggest problem I had with the home was the TV was too small to enjoy and there was no stereo to listen to music. Fix these problems and I would rent again and recommend to a friend. The property management company was nice and very helpful.
Property Manager Response: Response from Best of Canaan Thanks for taking time to complete the survey. We are sorry that you were not happier and promise to talk to the owner about a better TV and perhaps the addition of a small stereo. Stand by for updates! Thanks again-Happy New Year!
A guest from Arlington, Virginia recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in December, 2013 Nice location. We were the only people staying in one of the many similar properties in the area so lots of quiet time. The place was very nice; open kitchen, lovely hot tub, nice fire place. Couldve been cleaned a little better. Overall great experience
A guest from Miamisburg, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2013 We really enjoyed our stay! Cubby Hole was just as described. The only thing that could have made our stay better was if there had been some more information about all the "how-to's" in the house. There were many hings that we were able to figure out after some investigation, but we wouldn't have had to figure them out if there had been a binder of some sorts. There was some information on the fridge, but it was more about how to clean up than how to operate things in the house. The internet password was scribbled on a scrap of paper, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to access the wifi. It all worked out, and as I said, we enjoyed our stay. Oh, and bring plastic cups. With the exception of coffee cups, there were practically no glasses to be found. In the big scheme of things, only minor complaints.
A guest from York, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2013 We rented this home off of Ski season, so the price was amazing for what you get. We only used the downstairs the whole week and it was plenty of space (2 of us). Everything was well kept, working properly, and very comfortable.Highlights:Hot Tub on the balconyFireplace controlled by a light switch!QUIETBeautiful resortClose enough to necessities and restaurants while still being out and away from civilization.Minor inconveniences:Trash needs to be taken off sight (travel with trash in your car to a dumpster down the road)The gas grill needs to be manually lit, but worked great once we figured it out!
A guest from Marion Center, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2013 We had a wonderful time at Cubby Hole, the property was clean and the location was convenient. There are other houses surrounding the property so it's not very secluded (no blinds on windows, except in bedrooms) the view out the front is the best with the woods in view, we saw deer multiple times passing through. Loved that the house was very open and you can be in the kitchen and still view the living room and beautiful fireplace! As far as the amenities in the house, although we didn't have it on much the television was very tiny on top of the fireplace mantle and only a few buttons on the remote worked. It would be nice to have a cozier chair next to the fireplace but overall, the atmosphere was very relaxing (especially the hot tub). Make sure to take extra paper towels and possibly an extra kitchen towel if you plan on cooking. The property management was wonderful and very helpful. Donna made it a breeze booking the trip and was very nice!!! Would definitely book again through Best of Canaan!
A guest from Pittsburgh, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2013 We had a great time. The house was spacious and convenient to all of our activities - horseback riding, canoeing, hiking the Dolly Sods.
Ally R. from Hurricane, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2013 We stayed in the Cubby Hole for 5 days in July 2013 and had a wonderful time. The home was spotless and was much nicer than we expected. The location was perfect for our off season trip. We could watch the horses go by from the house from the stable and there was plenty of space to roam. The hot tub was especially nice. I would definitely stay at the Cubby Hole again.
A guest from waynesville, Ohio recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013 This is our 3rd year at the Cubby Hole. It's a great location to everything around Canaan Valley. We rode horse at Timberline Stables (great fun). Also took a day trip to Smoke Hole Caverns (enjoyed it). The Cubby Hole is pet friendly & has a great hot tub.
A guest from Big Pool, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2013 WE ENJOYED THE PEACEFUL SURROUNDINGS. THE POND WAS GREAT FOR THE KIDS AND DOG TO SWIM IN. THERE WAS ALOT OF FISH TO CATCH TO. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SOME GREAT FAMILY TIME, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. DONNA AT THE RENTAL COMPANY WAS AWESOME, THANK YOU
Property Manager Response: Response from Best of Canaan Thanks Shannon. It was fun to work with you and we sincerely hope you come see us again.
Greggory H. from Wheeling, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2013 My family loved our time at the Cubby Hole and dealing with the Best of Canaan was easy and amazing. We have decided that we will be back every year .
A guest from Ashburn, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2013 Over all good experience, one thing I would recommend is better cleaning of the property. With an infant we wanted to make sure the house is clean for him to walk around. We had to manually sweep the floor as the vacuum cleaner was not working. Other than that we like everything else with the house.
Tara H. from Elizabeth, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in December, 2012 The television in the front room needs upgraded to a larger screen. The home needs to offer family friendly games. It would be nice to have the option of blinds/curtains for more privacy. I felt very exposed, the kitchen/dinning and living area windows were open entirely without the option of any blinds or shades. The telephone did not work and I did not have cell service. I had to go elsewhere to make reservations for the Golden Anchor. The kitchen was stocked well, the master bed was comfortable. It would be nice to have more information about the local area perhaps a booklet. My husband and I have stayed in Timberline for 12 years, two and three times a year. We know what the area has to offer in the way of homes and pleasure. The Best of Canaan needs to limit their fees, I have stayed in better homes for less money. The staff in booking the property were kind and helpful. I will use my other rental company the price and amenities are much better. In today's society people will choose the best deal for their family and budget. I do not mean any disrespect to any person but I must be honest. Thank You and God Bless
A guest from Silver Spring, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2012 Cubby Hole is a very cozy home in a great location for access to all Canaan Valley has to offer. Best of Canaan staff are terrific -- very responsive and helpful!
Mike K. from Mercersburg, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2012 Best of Canaan will always be our choice from here on out when we come yearly to Canaan Valley. They were the most courteous and responsive that we have had in the last 14 years we have been coming to Canaan Valley. See you next year!!
A guest from Morgantown, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2012 The hot tub was not ready, so we missed having it for the first day. The management called us back within an hour of us leaving a message that evening, which was nice. The problem was resolved and the hot tub fee was waived.
A guest from Vienna, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2012 Lovely house, great location, friendly staff. The only problem we encountered was that the DVD player momentarily freezes now and then during play.
A guest from Annapolis, Maryland recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2012 Amy and Donna were wonderful to work with. The house is very nice and clean. Canaan and surroundings are at least as nice in the summer as in the winter. Lots of hiking in the area, as well as mountain biking. We had a nice time.
SHERI T. from TILTONSVILLE, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2012 Our vacation and the house were both Wonderful!! It was a very nice family get away. Very peaceful and relaxing. We also enjoyed the beautiful senery that Canaan Valley has to offer. We will definataly be back and maybe even stay in a different house n bring some friends but I will use Best of Canaan for sure!!
A guest from Clayton, MI recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2012 we would definitly change the location of the tv in the livingroom, looking up at the ceiling stinks! The ceiling fan and tv in the one bedroom didn't work and the chair next to the hottub needs to be replaced. The cabin was extremely clean and very nice though. Nice location.
Amber G. from Glenburnie, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2012 My boyfriend and I brought our dog. We love that it was pet friendly. The staff is very nice and the towns are so cute and quaint. We went the last week in March which isn't peak season. The best part of that was there literally was no one in town but the locals. Our community was vacant. Which we loved! We wanted peace and quiet and we got it. Downside is places close early or weren't even open at all bc there wasnt enough business. We enjoyed the food, the views, and the parks. Overall we loved everything about our trip and we would do it all again using The Best of Canaan :)
A guest from Washington, DC recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2011 My husband, our two friends and I had such a wonderful time at Cubby Hole! We immediately felt at home, making Thanksgiving dinner in the VERY well-equipped kitchen. Donna at Canaan Valley made everything seem like a breeze. The hot tub was hot and ready to jump in for a relaxing soak before dinner, the house was very clean, the rooms were huge and there was plenty of space. We cannot wait to return!
Ashley P. from Germantown, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2011 We were so happy with our experience, we loved the house and really enjoyed our much needed time aweay. We plan to visit again some day and have already recommended your agency to several of our friends.
A guest from Potomac, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2011 A great place to get some R&R for the weekend -rental staff had great recommendations for restaurants, house was perfect for our family needs. Beautiful surroundings in the valley and easy to find. We will be back!
Jenn B. from Columbus, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in September, 2011 From the first time I sent an email inquiry about possibly renting the Cubby Hole cabin, to the day we left, our experience has been GREAT!! The staff at Best of Canaan is not only professional, but extremely sweet and helpful as well. The cabin was better than we expected and had everything we needed except for the food :) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan on coming back again!!
A guest from Wheeling, WV recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2011 My husband and I came to CubbyHole for LaborDay weekend and were quite pleased! I haven't seen a WoodEnd home that I don't like (it's a very nice community) but the real perk was dealing with Donna and the other girls at Best of Canaan. They go above and beyond what is expected to assist the renters. We're going back very soon.Thank You!!!
Robin R. from Potomac, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2011 We visited in July. Very comfortable living space for 5 people & 2 dogs. Loved the hot tub(the roof was a key factor in the rain). Nice location--woodsy, peaceful but not isolated. Convenient to horseback riding, pond, hiking, tennis, Big John's restaurant. Staff offered good advice re which house to choose. We thought one bathroom upstairs for 3 kids might be a problem, but the half bath at the bottom of the steps helped. Would go back if we visit the area again (maybe in Spring for livelier rafting).
A guest from Charlottesville, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2011 Overall, it was a nice property, however, the linens were worn and need replacing, especially the towel. it would be great if they were white, so they were easy to bleach. The sofa could also use updating.
A guest from Waynesville, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2011 We spent 3 nights at the Cubby Hole. I called beforehand to be sure this place met our inter-generational needs. Amy was extremely helpful. It was everything we expected/advertised & more. We did recommend this place to our family members at the reunion & are hoping to stay again next year. It was close to everything we wanted to see, yet secluded enough to have privacy.
A guest from Haymarket, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2011 In February we stayed at Cubby Hole and truly enjoyed the property and interior decorating. We took long walks through the neighborhood, or in my dog's case, should I say rabbit chasing early Sunday morning towing my owner along. There are beautiful views of the woods through the many windows and the location was very convenient to Timberline Resort. I would definitely recommend this beautiful property for a vacation rental.
A guest from Falls Church, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2011 This is a great house within an easy walk to Timberline. Maybe not with ski gear but it's perfect for families who want to come and go without having to drive to the slopes if they don't want to. The house was great. Very clean. Plenty of room and comfortable. A nice gas fireplace for warming up post skiing. Even though we didn't use it, there was a very nice hot tub. Lots of wildlife around, so enjoyable walks with lots of photography opportunities. The one drawback per se would be the TV in the living room. It's rather small and high up over the fireplace, so viewing was not optimal. We were there for skiing, so not that big of an issue but it's definitely not Super Bowl party worthy. The piece de resistance was Donna from Best of Canaan. We booked last minute and this amazingly nice, professional, helpful person went beyond the call of duty to help us pull it off. We will only book through Donna for any subsequent trips to Timberline. Unbelievable customer service skills -- a rarity these days. A true gem.
A guest from Olney, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2011 Our family of four (plus a golden retriever) had a great ski weekend here in January. The gas fireplace and hot tub were very nice touches. We especially appreciated having the handy utility room off the front porch for storing ski stuff. The walk to the Winterset ski slope (beginner slope; access behind the ski team building) was a bit long -- probably about a quarter mile. But it gave us more flexibility, and parking in the main lot is a pain on weekends anyway.
A guest from Arlington, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2010 This was a very nice cottage for a long ski/New Years weekend. Everything was very clean and the house was in good shape. Everyone in my group had a fantastic time and we were overall very happy with the rental! The location (in terms of skiing) was good, but not great, as it was a quite a long walk or a short drive to skiing. If I had any small complaints they would be:1-the hot tub was too cold to use for the first day (even though we did appreciate it was cleaned for us) This was somewhat of a letdown not being able to use the hot tub after a long first day of skiing.2-this may not matter to some people but the TV in the family room was only about 24" and was way to high for comfortable viewing. The TV was too small to see if a field goal was good or not watching New Years Day Bowl games! This would be an easy fix for the owner and I would recommend it as a quick upgrade to the house!3-The family room could use another comfy couch! Please do not let these comments dissuade you from booking this property, it is a great house for a family/group and led to a great weekend for my friends and I.Also, the property manager was great and could not recommend renting through this company more!
