Vacation Cottage Rental Description:

Mermaid Cottage is a sweet single bedroom/bathroom cottage on the back beach of Mutiny Bay. The cottage is comfortable for one or two in a double bed. There is also a twin bed in the garden studio. It is located by one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the West side of Whidbey Island and is just moments from downtown Freeland, two golf courses, rolling hills for biking and the historic town of Langley by the Sea. This "shabby chic" like cottage with peek-a-boo views of the Olympic Mountains and sunsets has full sun exposure and a south facing deck to relax on. Mermaid cottage has a small, cheery, bright interior that includes a kitchen, washer/dryer, DVD player, Bose music dock, internet access, and a cottage sized gas grill outdoors. Come be surrounded by flower gardens and sleep to the sounds of the ocean waves on Mutiny Bay.
JULY THROUGH AUGUST THERE IS A FOUR NIGHT MINIMUM STAY.

Despite the construction next door (or perhaps because of since we were still able to access the beach until the construction is done), this was a wonderful and relaxing stay. Perfect for two adults and a teen since there's a detached bedroom where she could 'hole up' and sleep as long as she wanted to.

This is a lovely cottage with beautiful grounds and gardens. The pastel colors of the interior were soft and relaxing. The supplies in the cottage were scanty, especially in the kitchen and the cottage needs blinds on the doors and windows because it was extremely hot inside. Deer and rabbits come into the yard and there are lots of fun things to do in very close proximity. With a few improvements, it could be a superior vacation rental.

Quintessential beach cottage, but so intimate that there is no door to the bathroom, only a curtain for privacy. There is construction next door that begins at 7:30 A.M., M-F. On arriving we had some rough spots that were smoothed over by the extremely attentive property manager, Karen Jaeger. Among other problems: an old, stained coffee pot, an ineffective toaster, worn bed pillows and bathroom hand towels that appeared more like rags, were immediately replaced by her when we brought these to her attention. She made this near-the-beach cottage as functional as possible. There is a combination washer/dryer that was mildly effective if you used the ?extra wash? function; otherwise not enough water was pumped in to clean the clothes; use the ?more dry? setting also. The cottage was clean through the efforts of Sylvan, the housekeeper, but the look is ?shabby chic? so you can do only so much. On chilly evenings we used the portable electric heater which did the job, since we could not find a way to start the black fireplace shown in the photo. There is no space where a couple can eat at a table. The bed was comfortable, the chairs in the living room much less so. The public beach is a quarter mile away. After 5 P.M. it is very peaceful. The garden is lovely. The interior is light and cheerful. Because of the lack of privacy and the present construction, we cannot recommend it now but, after the four homes next door are built, or for a week-end, it would be an enjoyable get-away for a single person.

We had a grrea time--we especially loved that you could walk to the beach and we loved the beach itself. It was not crowded at all--we pretty much had it to ourselves and our dog really enjoyed it too. Not sure if it will be so easy to access once the development is completed next door though. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. Our son asked if we could come back and stay there next year. Thanks!

Very Cute!! The bed was very soft and the linens needed cleaning. The duvet cover was old and needed to be washed. The standard pillows were very stained and needed to be replaced.

I booked the property on a Sunday. I had a death in the family on Tuesday. I tried to cancel on Wednesday and was told no. Disappointed. Be careful. They will not give you your money back no matter what. They didn't even try to rent it to someone else. So I paid the full amount and did not even go there.

Very sweet, quiet, tiny... we are pretty easy-going, but there were some definite problems here. First, the key wasn't where we were told it would be and it made us feel very uneasy about what was going on ... having to contact the agent, etc. We had a good time because we didn't really care that the "Bose sound system" turned out to be an ipod port and the DVD player had been removed from the TV screen. It just bothers me when I make a rental agreement and pay the price for certain things and then they are not there and there is no compensation offered for the discrepancy. The agent was nice about it, but she seemed quite unfamiliar with property. I've done VRBO before and have had good results with actual owners, not agencies. Maybe that's the difference. (I mean this place didn't even have a can opener or a sharp knife or a bathroom door, some furniture was broken, the garden room was unusable .... so, cute and quiet was ok for us, but I doubt any of my friends would think it was so cute to be so inconvenienced.

Was lovely except tv was essentially a monitor and there was not a dvd player. My daughter and I rented movies to watch at night only to find there was no way to watch them! There is not a clothes dryer, only a washer and the kitchen is short some essential items (had to borrow a can opener from the neighbors). Lastly, we were not left any keys. We had to use the lock box the whole time. Left a message with property manager but never got a call back. I think the ammenities listed should be accurate.

Bed was way too soft. Kitchen didn't have basics, such as can opener or spatula or serving dishes. Bath towels only. Loved the location and it is a comfy little cabin. We aren't too picky, and would bring what we need and stay again.

Great location! Loved the simple feel to the cottage. A few more supplies/kitchen equipment would be nice. Be sure that the cleaner cleans thoroughly and on time! Rather high bed, which could be a bit more comfortable and newer along with fresh bedding.
