Go back in time and relax riverside at ?Chiwa Lodge,? nestled on five acres with 150 feet of pristine Yakima River frontage. Chiwa (pronounced chee way) is a Yakama word for the trout that inhabit the river, sharing the environment with salmon, deer, elk, beaver, river otter, and a extensive variety of birds. The lodge?s unique architectural design salutes local history with storefront facades echoing the frontier coal mining town of Roslyn, just miles away.
Featured in Pacific magazine and Mountain Living magazine, the home,showcases family and local memorabilia and pieces of furniture-art designed and built by the owner. The main lodge and a guest cottage, linked by a ?boardwalk? deck running the length of the two structures, make Chiwa a great getaway for 2 or more families.
Tastefully decorated in a hunting and fishing theme, the main lodge boasts 3 Bedrooms and 2 ½ baths in 2,000 square feet. In the 24x32 foot great room, your evenings will center around the two story river rock fireplace and leisurely dinners and rousing board games at the long teak dining table which seats 14. (Or gather around the outdoor fire pit for fish tales and a barbecue!)
The guest cottage is a studio with a private bathroom and provides an additional 500 sq ft of living space. In the main house the 3 bedrooms are equipped with 1 King, 1 Queen, and 3 Twins including a set of bunk beds. The Guest cabin offers 1 Queen plus two couches.
A separate TV room in the main house sports a 47 inch flatscreen TV with DVD player. Other amenities include an IPod Player, and a gas BBQ. The master bathtub includes jacuzzi jets for a relaxing massage after a day outdoors. The kitchen is fully equipped for the most ambitious meal preparation.
From the front door of the lodge, a 100 foot stroll through majestic evergreens will take you to the scenic banks of the river for water sports and foot fishing. For drift boaters, the lodge is conveniently located between the Nelson Siding (Bullfrog Road) put-in and the take-out in South Cle Elum.
Chiwa Lodge is a 75 minute drive from downtown Seattle, 30 minutes from the Summit Ski Area on Snoqualmie Pass, and even closer to golf at Sun Country Golf Course or Suncadia Resort. In 30 minutes east bound, you are in Ellensburg for Jazz in the Valley, the Ellensburg Rodeo, and other attractions. For history buffs, a visit to Roslyn (setting for the Northern Exposure TV series) must include the unique cemetery and the Coal Miner?s Museum. Other local attractions include the Burlington Northern Railroad museum in South Cle Elum, and the Telephone Museum and the historical Carpenter House in Cle Elum.

Stayed for 3 days in December, 2012 My recommendation of the property comes with a disclaimer. ;) First, the positives: ASVR was a pleasure to work with during the reservation process. The location of Chiwa Lodge is beautiful and the snow magical. It was the perfect location to celebrate a quiet Christmas with extended family. The layout of the home is ideal for large groups and accommodated us comfortably. My 91 yo grandmother was able to maneuver through the cabin easily, even with a walker. I appreciated finding a home that welcomed the canine member of the family. It would not take much for this home to get a 5-star review from me, but for the price, I felt like there could definitely be improvements. My complaint lies in the cleanliness and condition of the home. While I was confident the important things (toilet, shower, sink) had been cleaned, the cleaning was not thorough. I expect crumbs in my home silverware drawer, but someone else's crumbs are not so appealing. The dusting and mopping had not reached into the corners. The bedspread was obviously not washed before being put back on the bed. Upstairs shower didn't drain. Silverware was not clean. Inside of cupboards needed to be wiped out. Towel in the bathroom was bleach stained and had holes. Furniture had not been moved for vacuuming. The thoroughness of cleaning was akin to how I clean my own house as opposed to that of my housecleaners. Bottom line, the home had the dirt/dust that comes from being lived in. I expect that in a residence, but I've stayed in and prefer vacation rentals that are cozy and homey but spotless. All that said, we enjoyed our stay, just would recommend some white-glove treatment. 30th Bday Weekend Joanna H. from Tacoma, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2012 My husband and a few of our friends had a wonderful time at Chiwa Lodge. It really only sleeps 9 comfortably, but then there are couches as well as a cot in the master bedroom. We did not need those, since there were only 6 of us for 2 nights and then 4 on the last, but this is something to be noted! The layout is wonderful and the large dining room table made for perfect area for meals. On the last day, we woke up to nearly 6 inches of snow! It was a bit tricky getting out of the long windy road that leads to the main road (our Subaru needs new tires!) but we made it out with the help of chains. Something to think about if you have a 2WD car and are planning on visiting this area in the colder months. Although we were here in the winter, we could see how fun it could be in the summer, with the fire pit in the yard and the close access to the river. A couple of my friends were mentioning wanting to rent the cabin for their birthdays or in the summer! I would definitely come back to Chiwa Lodge again. Che-wa lodge A guest from Middlebury, VT recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2012 The sight was more remote then we were led to believe and the river cannot be seen from the house. The river is a short walk away. We could hear interstate traffic and train whistles coming from across the river. No internet but there is cell phone service. Houses were clean but in need of new shower curtains in all bathrooms, the furnishings were fine and comfortable. Chiwa Lodge in July Francis S. from Lake Forest Park, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2012 Chiwa Lodge is a well-appointed pair of cabins in the setting of an old western town. It's located with one boundary of its five-acre area on a clear river that meanders over small boulders. The location near Cle Elum and Roslyn gives access to some benign hikes that traverse lush forests.All of us, from the nine-year-old through the 25-year-old, their parents and grandparents, had a fine time. Management served us well, taking care of one random problem with dispatch and a good solution. We recommend Chiwa Lodge highly as does the doe that stalked through the meadow one early morning. A quaint retreat A guest from Tacoma, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2012 We had a wonderful time. Both the main house and the guest house were quaint and comfortable, right down to the beds. The handmade furniture and family items give the place much character. Another couple joined us for the last two nights and it was nice just relaxing by the river rock fire place....loved that. The weather was perfect and we wanted to play croquet...couldn't find a set and looked in town to no avail. We bought horseshoes instead. Occasionally, we heard free-way noise, but that is the case with most places by the river. We plan to stay again to enjoy the early fall season, and we are very much looking forward to it. We had 12 people there from 4 families and everyone was able to have their own space and privacy. There weren't as many beds as we expected for sleeping 12, but there were pads and cots. The lodge was beautiful, with a gorgeous central fireplace that kept us cozy all week. The kitchen and large dining room table were perfect for our large group. The privacy of the cabin itself in the woods was also wonderful. The only drawback there is that we expected riverfront property and there is actually a thick forest between the cabin and river so you can't see it or simply walk to it from the house. The spacious cabin made a perfect place for our adult children, gradnchildren and us. There were three separate sleeping areas which made the stay so pleasant. The huge kitchen table was the center of activity for Christmas cookie baking, art projects, games and wonderful meals. The river is beautiful and so close to the house. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2011 A group of 8 adults (4 couples)decided in April we wanted to go somewhere for the 4th of July, 2011. We stumbled upon this place on and consider ourselves very luck to have found this place that late. It is ideal for multi familys. Has everything you need in the kitchen, easy quick walk to the riverfront and accomodations were great all the way down to the relaxing back room with satellite tv on a big screen plasma! Great little BBQ on the deck, deck chairs provided by the property, lots of great history throughout the house. All of us were very satisfied and I got complimented and thanked for finding such a great little secluded place. (One couple did have to lay their heads in a bunkbed though. They were ok with it, but just an FYI) They also loved being able to bring their pets to a pet friendly lodge! All around a great, recommended multi-family, pet friendly lodge.
