Best Trip Ever...
Victoria K. from Citrus Heights, California recommends this property.
Stayed for 6 days in October, 2014
It was relaxed, lovely and a place we will return to in the future!!!The place did need to be tidied up more: no paper towels, toilet paper, napkins and the floors needed to be moped. A couple more face towels also would have been nice.

Great Retreat
A guest from Long Beach, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in May, 2014
We were thrilled to be able to stay right on the water with the waves and a local rooster bringing the only distraction. The local beaches were good for snorkeling, and the rental provided all the gear needed. We had some tasty meals and drinks down the road, and enjoyed a Mediterranean meal within walking distance (try the lamb.) Great for a couple who are ready to get away from it all for a few days!!! We would stay there again.

A Blissful Hawaiian Home
A guest from Seattle, WA recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in March, 2014
We had a wonderful time and would come back in a heartbeat. The location was perfect for us with its blend of privacy, quiet, view, garden and beach access. The proximity to North Shore hiking, snorkeling and bird watching was ideal. Mornings spent on the deck sipping coffee and watching and hearing the ocean, birds and catching sight of occasional whales, was deeply restorative. We had a temporary problem with the washer which was remedied, until repaired, by the owner not only allowing us to use their outside machine, but finding that they had folded our clothes for us as well. We experienced the genuine Hawaiian welcome and recommend this apartment without reservation.

Beachfront Retreat in Wainiha, Hawaii
Mike L. from Leewood, KS recommends this property.
Stayed for 10 days in February, 2014
We loved the studio apartment, loved the view and being so close to the almost deserted beach. The washing machine didn't work, however, and a repairman wasn't available during our entire 10-day stay. This was very inconvenient, because there weren't enough towels, etc., for the entire visit. The other renters had a washing machine, but it was awkward to arrange to use that. The screen door also fell off every time we used it and needs to be replaced. Also we asked that the plug in the Jacuzzi tub be fixed, but no one came to fix that, either, so the tub couldn't be used as a tub. We would definitely recommend this apartment, but it would be much better with a working washing machine.

Great location, needs updating of furniture
Cindy B. from San Francisco, CA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 7 days in February, 2014
This was a great location, and the place was clean, with working appliances and adequate kitchen equipment. It would have been ideal to have described the rental as the inlaw unit to the main house. The pictures are a bit deceiving to how small the space truly is. The comforter and couch need replacing and they were damp with mildew. We needed to get in touch with the management when the wireless router (not in the unit, so we could not trouble-shoot it ourselves) stopped working. We had some time sensitive matters that we needed to take care of (work and a family situation). When we tried to get ahold of management the wrong numbers had been listed so we were unable to really get a fast response. Once we got ahold of the handyman for the unit, it took > 24 hrs to be fixed, leading to some stress on our end.

The perfect vacation location
Jessica O. from Esko, MN recommends this property.
Stayed for 4 days in February, 2014
This is the first time we have used a vacation rental and we absolutely loved this property. The studio was perfect for our family of three. The beach was steps out the patio door, perfect for beach combing for shells. The amenities were great and we appreciated having laundry available in the apartment. We were so sad to leave the quiet oasis! We look forward to returning to the beachfront retreat. Some information that may be helpful; this is an amazing property. It is an incredible drive in, it is quite secluded so if you enjoy a resort atmosphere this may not be the best fit. The beach is incredible; directly out front the beach is very course so difficult to build a sandcastle and lots of coral so not great for swimming. Having said this, just down the beach the sand is more fine and the surf is great for chasing! My family (10 year old son) had the best time searching for shells, crabs, and anything ocean exciting! There are many beaches close that are great for boogie boarding and swimming. We hope this information is helpful. We could not be happier with this location. Mahalo!

Stayed for 6 days in January, 2014
This rental is absolutely perfect for a couple wanting to get away from the rat race and relax together to the sound of ocean waves and the feeling of soft sand beneath your feet right outside the door. Swimming, hiking, water sports are all nearby. And then you come home to a private, homey, well-equipped and maintained, sweet spot that we would rent again in a heartbeat.

A True Find
Anne S. from Groton, MA recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in December, 2013
This place is perfect for two people. Such a beauatiful spot that I keep fantasizing about when I can go back. I almost hesitate to write this review because I don't want too many people to discover this place. The sound of waves as you sleep, the well-stocked kitchen and the well-stocked outdoor bin of snorkling equipment, the overall cleanliness and convenience make this a stellar vacation spot. One small detail: the place should include a long squeegee for the outside of windows so that they can be cleared after the guest uses the hose to rinse off the salt. Just a minor detail but worth considering since the place is so close to the ocean. This place is a true gem--it broke our hearts to leave.

Fantastic location
Larry G. from Dallas, TX recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in October, 2013
The Beachfront Retreat's view and location is absolutely perfect. We loved waking to the beautiful sunrises and going to sleep to the sound of the ocean. We only wished that there had been a few changes on the inside that would have made our stay more convenient and comfortable. We arrived late at night and was not aware there was a door other than the sliding door that was in the pictures; therefore, it took a phone call to find how to get into the house. Also, we weren't sure exactly what items on the property we had access to since a family was living in the larger part of the house. In spite of those things, we definitely would stay at the Beachfront Retreat again.

A guest from Westleigh, NSW does not recommend this property.

The house was easy to find. The location was as excellent as described with a gorgeous view, very nice beach in front of the house and a few more nearby; plus, it is very close to the beautiful Napali cost. The one(!) room has all the usual bed and kitchen facilities. It offers most beach and snorkeling utensils you may need. It only has a few hangers instead of a clothing cupboard (not a problem if you only need to store clothes for a day or two). The phone worked on day one but was disconnected from day two onward, which left us not contactable. The room seemed to have been refurbished (some things still incomplete). Overall, the building itself needs some TLC.

I'm hesitant to say what a great spot this is. I just want to go back and stay. Forever. The promo photo is no exaggeration. If you are kept awake by the sound of the ocean, and you don't like being out of town, look at another property. If you like a beautiful place to upwind and be close to great beaches, great hikes, and the ocean lapping at your deck, this is it.

Could have been paradise.
Pim P. from Buckingham, Bucks recommends this property.
Stayed for 12 days in August, 2012
We have found a few problems with this property, the main things were:1. The lock on the back door is so damaged by the sea spray that the lock simply does not work. Not only are we told in the contract to always lock this door, this also voided our travel insurance in case of a burglary (which fortunately did not happen).2. The secured internet connection that we were supposed to use was not available and a phone call to David and leaving a message resulted in no reply. We therefore have had to use an unsecured connection that did appear.3. There was only one set of towels even though there were meant to have been two sets.4. Cleaning was far from thorough, we found previous occupants' stuff in the bins, there was mouldy coffee left in the coffee maker and a plastic cup was left at the bed side.On the plus side, the location of the property is fantastic and we did have a wonderful holiday on the island. On balance however, considering the price and condition of the property we would in future certainly consider alternatives.

Garrett S. from Phoenix, AZ does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 10 days in April, 2012
The location was fantastic with 20 yards to the beach. The small studio had everything and David (manager) was fantastic. However, we had some problems. First, the door entry was not written out correct and we had to call and were delayed a half hour after a 9 hour trip. The internet sign on was listed as Beachfront2222 and it should be caps. But the big item was BUGS. While mosquitos and ants are normal for the tropics, the amound in the studio was crazy. Ants everywhere and we cleaned and cleaned. My wife was bitten multiple times. Many huge cockroaches were present and had to be attacked. Also, the wooden counter had termites in it and while not bothersome, it was 2 feet from the bed. We spent about $75 on various bug sprays and ant/roach killer. And, I would certainly downplay your pictures as the furniture is at least 15 years old. We did have a great time and the location was perfect and David was great. We really were disapointed with the cockroaches!!!

Heather B. from Missoula, MT recommends this property.
Stayed for 4 days in April, 2012
Overall, we were very pleased to stay here. The bed was very comfortable and the view was great! Everything was very nice. They had chairs, small bbq, boogie boards and a kayak for our use. But, the ocean was very rough and the weather seemed stormy and windy most of the time, so I wouldn't plan on swimming here (we didn't hang out on the porch or the beach here at all), but Tunnels beach is about a mile away with really excellent snorkeling / swimming. We drove a lot to Hanalei to hang out and around the island. I would recommend this place, but next time, I would probably try to rent closer to Hanalei bay or near Poipu, but that's because I enjoy the sunnier weather and hanging out on the beach or outside more. The wind and crashing waves made me feel a bit nervous, but I loved going to sleep listening to the waves!

This adorable spot was perfect for us. It is sort of like a mother-in-law dependency off the main house on the property. Photos depict it well. Easy to get to beautiful beaches, town exploration, and though we did not try it a restaurant is in walking distance. Kitchen and bath very nice. Bed comfy. Tip: if you need to use WD allow pretty of time as takes a while to complete both cycles. I've dreamed of this place since returning home. GO!

Relaxing ocean-front North Kauai studio
A guest from Seattle, WA recommends this property.
Stayed for 4 days in February, 2012
The house it?s in is right on the beach. I enjoyed walking on the beach and relaxing in the house while watching the big waves. The Hanalei area is incredibly beautiful. I enjoyed my stay and would return again, but would also consider other rentals. Some items to note are:1. The unit is part of a house that is occupied by the owners.2. It?s on the north coast, so it?s windier and has higher seas than other parts of the island. In the winter, the beach right outside the house is not safe to swim in. I did not hang out on the front porch or lawn because of the wind and salt water spray.3. You have to ask the owners to use the pictured kayak or surf board.4. There were no fins to fit me (women?s size 6.5, I only saw kids and men?s sizes). You may need to rent gear instead of counting on what?s at the house.5. The gas barbecue worked, but was old and ******. It was really dirty and did not heat properly so we only used it the first night. I expected it to be clean since it was included in the property description.6. I would recommend bringing a good knife because all the knives are dull. It took me about 15 minute to cut a pineapple instead of five. There are a couple of maintenance items. The screen door fell off the first time I tried to open it. The rod to keep the door locked is moldy because it?s always sitting in water. The part of the washer that covered the soap repository was also broken. The directions to the house should be revised. They state it?s the first big house after two one-lane bridges; however, there are several larger houses before it. There?s a plant that blocks the address that is written on the garbage area that should be trimmed. The directions don?t tell you which door to use; it?s the door on the right when you face the ocean.

We enjoyed our 3 night/4 day vacation in Kauai this january and we are so happy we stayed here. The 1 bedroom studio has a modern flair with a touch of the island decor.A totally renovated and well equipped kitchen. As soon as we entered the house the view was simply breathtaking. It is literally 15 to 20 steps to the ocean..not even a minute away! The beach is secluded and hardly any people around. We enjoyed cooking all our meals in there and it saved us a lot of time and money communting to other restaurants nearby. You don't have to go anywhere for sunrise or sunset.Tunnels beach is minutes away and so also Kee Beach. I wish we had stayed longer to just soak in all the nature around not forget to star gaze in the night lying on the lounge chairs...the sound of the ocean and the view of the star light sky is simply awesome. We will return to the same place sometime in the future for sure. Our 5 year old daughter had a really good time collecting coral and sea shells from the shore. This vacation rental is really what was described on .

Too Many Surprises
Patsy K. from Joplin, MO does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 4 days in January, 2012
While this property has a magnificent view, it was otherwise drastically overpriced and poorly maintained compared to the other Kauai properties we used. I understand "insects are a part of island life" but I do not expect to have ants (despite constantly wiping down cabinets and putting EVERYTHING in ziplock bags in frig. There were also a few spiders, and the largest roaches I have ever seen. The exterior of the property looks like a junkyard. There were old chairs, a junky hammock, trash cans, miscellaneous odds and ends all around. Linens were of poor quality. Washcloths were stained and dingy. Even though the view was lovely, the surf would have been too choppy for anyone but a very experienced swimmer. Directions to the property were poor. Address was hard to see. There was no outlet in the bathroom, so I had to take the hair dryer into one of the mirrors by the bed. Towel racks are mounted on the front of windows. There is no a/c, so if you have shutters open to get air, there is no privacy in bathroom. Only mirror in bathroom is also mounted on window shutters. Also, be aware that this property is pretty much at the end of the road and has several low bridges that evidently flood during heavy rain. We left early on our check-out day just because I was so ready to move elsewhere. Later that day, we found out how fortunate we were to have left early in the day since one of the bridges was closed for part of the day because of heavy rain. Although that should not necessarily keep someone away, renters should at least be aware of that eventuality. I paid half this price for one other property and the same amount for a third, both of which were beach front properties and had lovely furnishings. I gave both of them glowing reviews.

The location was as shown in the photos--right on the beach! Exactly what I was looking for. However it was VERY windy which I have come to learn is typical for this location--this was a bit disappointing as I had hoped to spend more time outside. I did get used to it. The recent remodel is very attractive! Furniture, flooring, ceiling, bath fixtures, cabinets (except sticking drawers), toiletry supplies all lovely. Something that appeared to be blood was on some of the living/bedroom area floor tiles. I cleaned a bit but could not get much off. I did not call about this. I did call David about the condition of the windows and someone came out to clean them right away. Unforturnately they are indeed "etched" by the salt spray. This detracts from the quality of the remodel. So does the paint that is along the edges of the window interiors. The bottom area of the bath louvers was yucky--this too does not match the quality of the remodel. The downstairs studio was quiet except for when the upstairs toilet was flushed. Unfortunately the pipe is right over the bed. The sliding door was a bit wonky. At $200+ a night, I would have liked everything in tip top order. I really did enjoy my stay--the above details did not have a lasting negative influence.

Romatic getaway right on the beach

The Beachfront Retreat is about 4.5 miles further west from Hanalei town. It is a large, recently remodeled studio attached to a family home right on the beach with a northeasterly view across Wainiha and Hanalei bays to Princeville in the distance. The sunrise (in June) was directly out front. The kitchen has a new huge koa countertop/bar and the bathroom has new stone tiling and a jetted tub. The washer-dryer were welcomed amenities. The kitchen is adequate, but the knives could use sharpening and it would have been nice if there were a few basic starter items beyond salt and pepper in the larder. I would recommend the Beachfront Retreat to anyone looking for a true North Shore Kauai experience, and would very happily stay there again.
