Kona Makai 4-302 A guest from kirkland, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in April, 2013 Overall, there were positives. The view was great, building quiet, lots of room, grounds gardenlike, condo well stocked, inexpensive. I would stay there again. The biggest negative was the cockroaches in the kitchen. No food or dirty dishes left out, but returning the first evening in the dark, turned on kitchen light and 6-8 small cockroaches running on counter, sink, into silverware drawer. Cockroach droppings in silverware drawer. We had to wash silverware and dishes and store in the refrigerator. Left light on and covered sink openings after that, and it was better. |

Roach Motel! Stay away from this unit, possibly the complex A guest from SAN CARLOS, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2013 The condo itself is in a good location. We had a nice view of the ocean and were able to see sunsets from the lanai. The unit was also well stocked, and the photos reflect the property in general.However, the cleanliness of the property is highly questionable. Upon arrival, we found two cockroaches running in a kitchen drawer (the side opposite the stove). Needless to say, this grossed us out. We saw at least one roach in the kitchen each day. Also, when we were about to go to bed the first night, we found that the sheets were dirty. Luckily, the unit had a washer and dryer. So we took time to wash the sheets (and towels, because who knows!) right away but had to wait before going to bed. The unit did not have any laundry detergent. It was late and stores were closed, so we decided to use the dish detergent the first night. When we went to move the sheets into the dryer, we found several towels and two floor mats stuffed in the dryer, beyond its capacity. It looks as if the cleaner did not bother to take them out from the previous cleaning job.This would have been a more pleasurable stay if not for the conditions mentioned above. Too bad, because the complex and unit are both rather nice otherwise. (We question the rest of the complex, because if you see roaches in one unit, it's likely that there are roaches in other units.)We have stayed in other condo units on the Big Islands before, and never have we had this disappointing experience. |

Stayed for 13 days in March, 2013 Kona Maki is a great complex for adults, beautiful manicured grounds and awesome views for some of the most incredible sunsets right from your balcony. Condo is a little tired and could use some updates but the only real concern with this particular unit (building 4) is that it backs onto the tennis courts and busy road which equates to lots of early mornings with lots of noise. |

Stayed for 35 days in February, 2011 The overall condo was okay. The amenities were good in the kitchen area but there was WAY too much clutter thru out the condo. There was too much furniture in the condo to a point that you felt like you had to walk thru a maze so as to not hit your foot, knee or hip on something. There was enough bedding in the condo to supply all of unit 4. I brought extra supplies (extra vacuum, two extra comforter sets, 4 extra sets of sheets and numerous pillows, etc) up to loft so I could put my own stuff in the closet and drawers. Things like mirrors, dust bunnies and the lanai could have been way cleaner. It was very difficult to get used to the parking lot noise which is not the fault of the owner but other renters that did not respect other condo renters. There was alot of car alarms, people hitting the lock button/key 3-4 times at all hours of the night. Garbage truck came everyday at 4:30 am. The view is a bit far from the ocean but still very pretty. |
