A nice place to stay in St Augustine A guest from Long Sault, ON recommends this property. Stayed for 56 days in January, 2013 We stayed 8 weeks in this little bungalow and enjoyed every minute. Walking distance to wonderful restaurants and shops on a quiet street with very little traffic. Oasis House on Anastasia Island, St. Augustine Catherine D. from Brockville, Ontario does not recommend this property. Stayed for 30 days in March, 2012 The furniture in the family room was extremely uncomfortable. The pond was not much more than some makeshift rocks with water pouring over them. The pump stopped working on the second or third day we were there and we also tried to vacuum but the vacuum cleaner didn't work. We called maintenance and someone stopped by for a short while and said he would be back to fix the pond and he left the vacuum by the front door it. We never heard from anyone again. A stagnant pool of water in Florida is a festering ground for mosquitoes. The house had cockroaches and was infested with fleas. Our dog was taken to a local vet office. The house had obviously had not been fumigated when the last tenants left and before we arrived. Our dog was agitated a scratched for the month we were there. The vacuum was eventually fixed by my husband, which took three hours or more. After a second call to the maintenance office two men came who fixed the pond and they also took it upon themselves to power wash the barbeque (it was too filthy to use otherwise). The two men who came were very effecient and they took notes about the flea infestation, etc.The location of the house is good for anyone who likes to walk as it is a short 15 minutes across the bridge to the old part of St. Augustine and within walking distance of the Conch House on Anastasia Island. St. Augustine is a beautiful city and very dog friendly which interested us as we were there for a month and wanted to take our dogs. As for re-renting this house, we wouldn't do it. Too uncomfortable and the garage is absolutely packed with all kinds of junk, etc. The pond is not really an attraction and the fenced in backyard turned out to be a 2' high brick wall. Comments on Oasis House A guest from Springfield, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 96 days in November, 2011 Although the property was advertised to sleep six. It could only accommodate five.Unit was equipped with WiFi and reception was very good.Kitchen well equipped except for no sharp knives and was not equipped with a garbage disposal.Family room furnished with two rattan chairs and a 2-seater rattan couch. Very uncomfortable. Although the unit had three TVS when COMCAST went digital only one converter box was provided for TV in family room.No screen on door leading from family room to deck and, especially at night, we had a problem with flying insects.RECCOMENDATIONS: (1) Replace day bed with twin beds and install TV in third bedroom.(2) Provide sharp knives in the kitchen.(3) Install garbage disposal in kitchen sink.(4) Replace rattan furniture in family room with two recliners and a comfortable 3-seater couch.(5) Install screen door on door leading from family room to the deck or enclose deck completely.(6) Deck needs to be power washed, renailed, and painted.(7) Awning needs to be repaired.(8) Outside barbecue pit needs repair. (9) Consideration should be given to replacing the present TVs with 4 flat screen TVs (one per bedroom and 1 in family room). Roaches Amy P. from St. Johns, FL does not recommend this property. Stayed for 8 days in October, 2011 When we first arrived it was very late at night. The first impression was nice. The house was furnished nicely, there was plenty of space for our family, and we were grateful to be able to bring our lab. However. The back yard is not fully fenced. Along the back is a brick fence all of 2 feet high and there is a large gap behind the fountain. When we went into the kitchen there were roaches. Live and dead. I had a roach crawl on me when I was sitting at the couch watching tv. And I saw roaches in the bathroom. The was at least one roach in the silverware drawer each time I opened it, sometimes several. And when I went in to the kitchen first thing in the morning and turned the light on to make coffee, roaches scampered across the counter, into the stove and coffee maker. Plus the longer we were there the worse our allergies were, including our dogs. I don't know what it was about the home, but I spent $150 in vet bills for her allergies because benedryl wasn't helping her. We were all taking allergy meds but ultimately drove a few hours to go stay at my parents because the meds weren't helping us either and both my children woke up with their eyes swollen shut. It might be that we are all coincidentally delicate beings and can't breathe normal air. But judging by whatever the brown goo was dripping from the electrical plates and light switches, the owners are aware of some issue. I wish they had taken it off the site and gotten it fixed before we wasted our time and money there. The house is lovely. The existing residents and health issues, not so much.
