Great Place! But Pood access limited A guest from Cougar, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in April, 2013 We have stayed here several times and always enjoyed the property. I made suggestions to make it a little more comfy and the owner stepped right up. The only regret I have about my stay here is access to the pond. It is very difficult for those who might bne disabled, older or both to get out of the swimming area. i only swam once as it hurt my knee to crawl back out and I didn't want to reinjure so I couldn't take advantage of the pond. I may have to just look elsewhere for easier access. I hate to do that!I see in the guestbook that others are having the same experience...hope it can be remedied! Thanks Ardie Stein |

Lovely stay A guest from Mill Valley, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2013 We loved the place. Have stayed in a Kapoho house before and really love the tide pools and general feel of the area. Location is right next to the Champagne pond and also very close to ocean. The house has a nice floor plan and worked very well for our family of 4.I was impressed with how well thought out things were and the nice touches like, water mats, game boards, yoga mats, hangers everywhere to put towels and bathing suits. The only thing that was less pleasant was the construction on the little house across the pond. Workers were not there but the place just doesn't look very nice and there is an unattractive plastic along the road and the side of the pond. Anyways we did like having the pond to ourselves... Thanks for a great stay. |

Peaceful, Private and Relaxing A guest from Waipahu, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2013 The management company was EXCELLENT. Answered all of my questions before I arrived in a timely manner. Very attentive. The home/property is lovely and considerate - anything you may want or need is there. The fresh fruit that greeted us was heavenly and huge - we couldn't finish it all. The pond was heaven on earth. The neighbors were very nice and informative. My only concern is over the access/use of the pond. We saw the property pins and its obvious that the overwhelming majority of the pond rests in the neighbor's yard. Once we knew that we felt like "trespassers" when we used the pond, BUT, the neighbors were there while we were there and they were okay with us using the pond. I think the owner should make it clear to her tenants that she has secured permission of the neighbors for us to use the pond without worry as the pond is the SELLER for the property. =) Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals Thank you for your review and suggestion for the notice about the pond. Hawaii law is very clear that ocean waters do not 'belong' to any private person. Swimming may not be restricted by anyone as long as access is legal, which in this case it is, hence no legal requirement for to put guests mind at ease, a notice may be just the ticket :) Mahalo!, Hawaii Holiday Management |

february 2012 Steve M. from Eastham, MA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in February, 2013 hi all I stay a lot of places in the state each year and thought this was a very nice, clean and well managed property. owner and marketing does a great job. A nice location but a little dissapointed with champain pond. access to pond is between houses was a drag A little cenent walkway and no sand? "nice turtle that lives there though!" Champain pond is a great location if you have a jeep and you drive past the light beacon!(didn't swim though rough and windy there but after all it was february. I will say the other area south was great for swimming around and easy access. house was great but owner should really update the wifi router for house "come-on really? only $175 or so for long range router" I do rentals also and people expect good internet connection! wonderful stay and would recomend this property. one other thing was we only had one access key for gate and 2 cars so that was tough too deal with. (i never did ask about a second access key) so that could have been my fault. i can't say enough about the house, clean nicly laid out and very relaxed atmosphere. and of course very warm pool! a very different stay for me becouse I have never stayed on that side of the island before. Mahalo until next time Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals Thanks for your nice review! The internet is a big problem that, believe me, if we and the Owner could fix it, we would! Access is very limited in East Hawaii and this just happens to be one of those spots that no service provider can get decent access continue to work on a solution. Internet is accesible in the back bedrooms so guests certainly can keep connected. Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management |

Needs a little update Ardelle S. from Cougar, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in January, 2013 We have stayed here several times enjoyed and would return. These are the things that would make me choose another similar property. 1) The pond i difficult to enter and exit especially for us with aging knees and backs.2) The maid keeps washing everything down with the same greasy rag evidently. It took me 3 runs at the glass coffee table to get it clean. 3) The shower stall in the mb floods the floor easily. it need a weighted shower curtain. 4) The second bath is Hot all the time as the air does not circulate. needs a fan! 5) The stove top has no fan either and gets uncomfortably hot to use especially in the summer. Last but not least and this is a big one. The owner comes over and in too often. She comes in when we are not there. We have met her and were suprised when this happens. She has a georgous place and we really have enjoyed for the miost part, but I have met others who have stayed and they say the same thing about the pond and the lack of circulation and privacy. By the way, it is my understanding that she does not own the pond area or procured rights to its use. We met the owners this trip and they let us know it was 99% on their property. Luckily they were kind enough to let us use it. I don't know what the future brings, but I think she is advertising this falsely. I will ask before I rent again or refer. Mmost of these are easy, inexpensive fixes..but the pond is a real issue, both its access in the future and difficult ingress, eggres. One more thing. as I said before we have been there several times now (we come at least twice a year and we have never been offered a discount as a repeat client. I also think going from $135.00 to $225.o00 especially for us returners is really disproportionate. Please give this your consideration. Thanks ! Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals Thanks for your review and thank you for booking your next stay at the same property (it must not have been as bad as you say)! We felt it was necessary to respond to the issues you brought up since we feel they shine an unfair light. The access into the pond is certainly legal from Honu's Hideaway and does not require permission from the neighbors. All Hawaiian ocean waters are public, as the Honu's Hideaway pond is. There are 3 portable fans in the house and if you read other reviews, this does not seem to be an issue. The house is VERY clean. Our prices vary by the season so even though you HAVE received discounts, you did pay a higher price in high would! The owner lives close by and does often greet guests and is available for anything a guest may request but she does not stop by uninvited. Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management |

What a great place! Andy S. from Waukesha, WI recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in January, 2013 This was our 2nd of 3 places on the Islands (our only on the Big Island) and it was a blast. The tide pool on the property was warm and inviting (and someone who is afraid of water in our group even learned how to snorkel in it - a HUGE deal for her!!) The property is close to a lot of nice snorkeling. It's a ways away from everything else, which we liked. It's a quite gated community. We did make day trips to the Botanical Gardens in Hilo (neat) and Volcanoes NP. Not to far for any of that, just enough to not be in a big city. The house itself is gorgeous and so very well kept, inside and out. The landscaping is very well done. A wonderful place I'd stay at again! |

Honu's Hideway linda h. from medford, oregon recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2012 The house, garden and especially the warm pond exceeded our expectations!!!!! I had no idea how wonderful and relaxing the stay would be. Everything one could want is provided at Honu's Hideway . The furnishings, bedding, towels, appliances all high end. We arrived at dusk and the house was easy to find and very private behind bamboo fences. The frogs were chirping and you could hear the ocean in background. It was like stepping into paradise. My only regret is that I booked too few days. Once you get to the house relaxation seems more important than sightseeing. The house is that good. |

Modern home in a rural town A guest from Burbank, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2012 Honu's Hideaway was a wonderful vacation home located in a quiet gated community. Kapaho is very rural, so make sure to pick up groceries/supplies in hilo or pahoa. It was also a little hard to find in the dark, so try to arrive during daylight! The realty company provided good directions and suggestions of local markets. We had our own private pond, a few minute walk from Champagne Pond/ocean, and few minute drive from Wai Opae tide pools and lava tree state park. The house had modern decor and appliances, including a nice coffee maker and Washer/dryer. There was even a cabinet of games and play doh, which our 3 year old loved. The owner provided a book of detailed maps of eastern Hawaii, which came in handy navigating through rural areas. Overall, house was a great location, well stocked, very comfortable. |

Well Managed excellent Stay A guest from Duncan, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in October, 2012 My Wife and I stayed here for I week and loved the property. The house is very nice and well furnished. The tide pool is amazing. The Management company was very professional and went way beyond my expectations to make sure I was satisfied with the rental. The reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is the internet is only available in the master bedroom making it very difficult to surf the internet and still be involved in the Holiday. The owner was trying to get this fixed and if she is successful I would give it 5 Stars. Really a Great place to stay. Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals Thank you for your review! The internet is working in the back bedroom only. Paradise on the windward side of the big island Caroline F. from Princeton Junction, NJ recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in July, 2012 This home exceeded our expectations. A tropical paradise. Quiet, safe, and comfortable. Carley, the owner has thought of and provided anything you might need on your vacation. My family and I stayed for awek on this side of the island after spending a wek in Kona. Weenjoyed this laid back setting more than Kona. It's a great point to explore the touristy side of the island(something we wanted to do since we have made many trips and stayed on the Kona side of the island. Staying here allowed us to explore volcanoes national park at sunset and dark, and to spend more time exploring kopoho pools-great snorkeling. Staying on the wet sidle of the island I was afraid we would be inundated with Mosquitos at Honu's Hideaway-I am happy to report this was not the case. It was most enjoyable spending early mornings and late evenings on the lanai and in the beautiful natural pool! Mahalofor a wonderful memorable stay! I am so sad it ended so quickly. |

Fantastic Stay 06/30/12 - 07/07/12 James B. from Boise, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2012 Great week at Honu's. Layout of the house worked very well for us + there was everything we needed + more for our week-long vacation - plenty of beach towels, cooler, snorkels, floaties etc.... Very clean + well stocked kitchen. All furniture, appliances etc.. in great condition. No bugs to speak of in the house - just a few little geckos. Loved hanging out on the lanai with the kids happily playing in the semi-private tide pool (shame about the orange fence on the other side - only thing I can really fined fault with!). Highlight of the week was hiking out (2 hours each way from the end of the road in Kalapana - be warned!) to poke sticks in molten lava - use the guys (Ikaika or Andrew)at Kalapana Cultural Tours, they are excellent. Snorkeling in all the local tide pools was a blast. Would highly recommend Honu's Hideaway (and I'm picky!). Thanks Kathy + the management team! |

Paradise near Hilo A guest from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in February, 2012 Absolutely beautiful house and yard. The house is roomy, with loads of windows and 3 French doors to access lanai and clear, warm tide pool in the garden. Very well stocked kitchen, and many thoughtful extras provided by the owner...umbrellas, flashlights, floating mats and some snorkeling gear for the pond. There is a BBQ and plenty of room to eat on the lanai table. Wash and dryer on site. The garden is lovely with lots of flowering plants. Location is good...close to Volcano national park and good acces to Hilo and the airport (about a 40min drive on good roads). Kathy the owner is very friendly and lives close by if you need any help or advice...she stopped in to let us know that the lava was flowing so we made a quick trip out after dark to see it....the kids were thrilled. Beautiful House in a friendly gated community near heated ponds! Yuko T. from Los Angeles, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in February, 2012 The house is BEAUTIFULLY furnished with Hawaiian decor. The kitchen is stocked with good quality appliances, cookware, and dishes. The garden is gorgeous, and there is a private pond you can swim in. We had breakfast in the lanai every morning, and listened to birds and frogs sing throughout the day. The Champagne Pond (walking distance), the Hot Pond, and the Warm Pond are all near by and is a fantastic experience - the ocean water is naturally heated, is shallow enough to be able to walk, and you can open your eyes underwater and it doesn't hurt! If you snorkel, you can see fish. The owner lives 2 doors down and was very nice. She checked in from time to time to make sure we were doing ok. She left us with her favorite guide book, detailed map of the east side of hawaii with every street, and her personal recommendations of things to do in the area which were right on (farmer's market, beaches, etc.) The house is located in a gated community and felt very safe. It also had a combination lock for the front door so we didn't have to worry about carrying a key around that might get lost or stolen. We were ABSOLUTELY satisfied with the house and would LOVE to return someday!!! |

Zach's stay at Honu house Zachary H. from Tahoe City, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in January, 2012 We had a very nice vacation. The house was great. A few things would make the house excellent: 1) the owner needs to replace the burners in the barbeque. 2) The wireless internet connect is patchy and slow. This should be improved or clearly communicated to future renters. 3) Movies are not available on the TV, although I believe it was advertised that movies are available. A password is needed, which probably means the owner needs to pay more. This was not a big deal for us, but should be clearly communicated. 4) Providing a couple of bicycles would really add to experience. There is very nice bike riding in the area, and we would have ridden bikes to the snorkle area in vacation land. We very much appreciated that the house had many modern conveniences and pretty much everything worked well. This would be a great house for a family vacation. Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals Thank you for your great review! We'd like to address a few of the points you brought up. BBQs take a lot of abuse in our tropical, salty air and we feel that replacing a working BBQ is irresponsible to the environment. It works great and we'll keep it until it needs to be replaced. Same issue with bikes. There is no interior place to store bikes and they would rust quickly and have to be thrown into a landfill. Internet service is very sparse in the Kapoho area and Honu's Hideaway is one of the few properties that actually has internet available. It works great in the back bedrooms! We don't advertise that movies are available. There is a DVD player in the house and a rental store in Pahoa. Thanks again for your suggestions, we will continue to strive for complete guest satisfaction! Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management |

Terrific Thanksgiving Vacation A guest from Denver, Colorado recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2011 We stayed at Honu's Hideaway in Kapoho Thanksgiving week. The location is away from the city and just steps away from the ocean. The house was fantastic and the kids were so happy to have a pond in the yard. Had a great time - would come back again! Sara D. from Honolulu, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2011 The place is even nicer than the pictures, and very clean. The beds were quiet comfortable. The snorkel equipment was better than what we brought - they must have just purchased new equipment.. We had a couple questions here and there, and everytime we called the rental company they answered and helped us through our question. We would definitely choose this place over other places in the area if we come back. Only downsides: the railing into the private pond is made of PVC piping (common in the area) but was not strong enough to support my father who is heavy and elderly. He had booked the place because he wanted to swim in the pond but because he couldn't rely on the rail he had to forgo it. The rest of us (3) swam it in many times throughout the days, it was fabulous and I liked it better than the other house ponds we saw. The other downside was that this vacation was during my school studies so I had picked a place with internet access but there wasn't really any after all (long story but the owner says she is working on this - so could be fixed soon). bottom line - if you are staying in the area this is the place to pick. |

Great place to pretend you live on the big island. William L. from Milwaukie, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2011 My wife and I spent the third leg of our 50th birthday vacation here at Honu's Hideaway. We spent a few days on the Kona side then a couple days in the rain forest past Volcano Village and our last four days relaxing at this home. The only thing we might have changed about our trip would have been to stay here longer. The drive towards Kapoho is spectacular. Once you are inside the gate the neighborhood it is unassuming, quiet and feels like you are home. Anyone you might pass on the road has a big smile for you and a wave. The owner of Honu's Hideaway greeted us shortly after we arrived and was a fabulous host. The house is clean, inviting with everything anyone would need to have a great stay. The pond was GREAT! We spent hours in it day and night. The best time snorkeling was mid morning when the sun was on the water. We will definitely be back here in the not so distant future for another adventure. Next time we will stay here the whole time. |

Awesome!!! Ardie S. from Cougar, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in September, 2011 This is the greatest little place. Actually not so small. The remodel makes it like new and it is so private and quiet for being in a subdivision. For us who have been to the islands often, we could have never left and been perfectly comfortable and entertained. The warm swimming pond is ono (the best), we never even went to the beach. We will be returning in a few months and will look no further than Honu's Hideaway for our stay. We have rented other houses in the area before, but this just can't be beat. Thanks again we'll be back soon!!!!! |

Paradise for Nature Lovers A guest from Luxembourg, Luxembourg recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2011 We loved the wonderful place with the tasteful interior right from the beginning. The house has everything you need (and more) for a brilliant vacation. It was not easy to convince our son to leave the tide pool.We found the location convenient for day trips to Volcano National Park, snorcheling at the Kapoho tide ponds and other sites. The variety of recommendations for restaurants provided helped a lot. On arrival, the nice owner came to greet us and provided some additional helpful information. We liked sitting outdoor at night listening to the frogs and watching the stars. It made us feel far away from reality. The only downs:We needed someone to help us to open the lock for the key pick up (technical explanation could be improved). However, someone from the agency came imediately to help. The next restaurants and shops are 8 miles away, but the location in return is nice and quiet. |

dream vacation! Connie R. from Arcata, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 We loved this place! We chose it online from a number of possible rentals in Kapaho, and once we arrived & could actually compare it to other places by walking around the neighborhood, we concluded it was the best rental in the area. Everything about it was perfect. |

Great Property, Miserly Rental Management James W. from La Crescenta, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2011 The house is actually better than the advertisement photos show. Besides the crystal-clear, perfect-temperature pond, all of the beautifully landscaped plants are lushly tropical, flowering, or edible. The nearby owner was extremely helpful. Our biggest regret is that we didn't reserve more nights here before moving on to Kona.I wish that I could go on about the property, but I must now tell about the management company. When one of our party was not able to join us, I asked for a refund of the difference. (Our Kona rental immediately credited our card.) I received this from Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals:"Aloha Jim,Mahalo for the note! We're only able to adjust rates for fewer guests while the arrival is more than 60 days in advance. Once the balance is paid in full we're not able to make rate adjustments. Sorry about that! We're thrilled to hear that you had a great stay at Honu's Hideaway and hope you'll keep us in mind for future visits!Warmest Aloha,"My suggestion would be to reserve for the minimum party in case anyone should cancel. If you happen to show up with 6 people instead of 4, remind the rental company that they are not 'able' to adjust within 60 days of occupancy. Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals Aloha James, thank you for your critique of our cancellation policy. We agree with you! This policy is inconsistent with our comitment to guest services and we have refunded you for the cost of your cancelled guest. We have made a company wide change to our policy and will consider individual reduction requests with earnest, as well as continue to honor our business commitment to the owners of our properties. paradise found Robert S. from Eureka, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2010 We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Honu's.The only caveat (and it is a stretch) was that the couches were too heat and doggy odored for the environment. Property Manager Response: Response from Hawaii Holiday Vacation Rentals Thanks for letting us know, though to our knowledge there has never been a dog in this newly remodeled house. Thanks, Hawaii Holiday Management |

The only distraction was the coqui frogs and the rotten foliage in the bottom of the pond. A guest from Kailua, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2010 Would like to have been warned about the coqui frogs. |

Honu's Hideaway was an exceptional place to stay and was everything advertised to be. Dave S. from San Luis Obispo, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in October, 2010 We can not say enough about what a great place to stay Honu's Hideaway was to relax and edulge ourselves with while visiting The Big Island. It was the biggest part of making the trip very memorable. We had great weather, enjoyed Pahoa, hiked to the lava flowing into the sea, shopped at the farmers markets, snorkeled in several areas, kayaked near the Cptn Cook monument, and took in all the lush scenery in the area. We were pleasently surprised at how much there was to do in the Hilo side of the island so close to where we were staying. The house had all the conveniences of home and more. Wifi was great to have so we could use our iPad and post photos and video to Facebook as it was happening. Best of all was the warm, convenient, and inviting natural pool next to the house that we lazed in daily. We even got tothe point that we liked the sound of the prolific sound of the Coquis. AAA++++++ |

if you like Construction noise try this place! Deeann M. from Waikoloa, HI does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2010 We live in Waikoloa Village and were disappointed that major construction was going on on the house directly across from the house's pond. It wouldn't hurt for your staff to wonder these neighborhood's every once and a while to see what type of construction or whatever is going on. We could of saved 700.00 by staying home and listen to construction noise. I know it's in your contract, but pretty if I was coming from the mainland and had that crane and nailgun blasting all day. The place is nice but waking up on our last morning with a crane installing the roof trusses was a bummer! i personally won't recommend your company to anyone I know plus I mention neat places to mainland visitors when they want to go see the volocano but I wont' be recommending your company. Mahalo for your time! Property Manager Response: Response from Hawaii Holiday Vacation Rentals This was so unfortunate! The house being built went up in record time two lots away from our wonderful rental, Honu's Hideaway. Of course we have no control over construction noise in the neighborhood, but we do have many other great properties that we would have been happy to relocate these guests to. Unfortunately, they didn't let us know about the construction noise until the day they checked out. We really do care about our guests' experience! This is the cornerstone of our business! Honu's Hideway site of my family's "best vacation ever" Chris C. from Torrance, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2010 Honu's Hideaway is an amazing place, the best rental house/condo I've ever stayed in. Beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Great snorkeling in the backyard pond and in the ocean just across the street. One warning: the pond is deep and drops off quickly. If you have children that are not strong swimmers, you'll need to keep a close eye on them. But they loved the house-provided rafts and floats. Well supplied kitchen that had almost every utensil you could think off. After hitting the market in Pahoa (about 8 miles away) for food you'll never need to leave.Wonderful place, the entire family loved it. |

Wow. Perfect Place for a getaway Kwok (Kevin) L. from Park Ridge, NJ recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2010 Fantastic house. We walked in and exclaimed, OMG. All the creature comforts. Trouble is we didn't really want to leave the house. The backyard tide pool is like a jacuzzi; nice and warm for an afternoon dip. Our family of 5 loved it. |

Hawaiian Paradise Mark B. from Sunnyvale, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2010 This was an incredible spot. Our own (relatively) private salt pond to swim in right out side our door, tropical landscaping, and a beautiful home add up to a great vacation spot. Pretty isolated, an hour or so from Hilo and Volcano. |

Heaven At Honu Hideaway A guest from Kailua-Kona, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2010 This place is truly a secret magical wonder in Hawaii. Very old Hawaii feel to this area and we didnt even get in our car. The house had everything we needed except more time. As a Hawaii resident of 31 years this is now my favorite place. The house is in the perfect spot. And although not ocean front you can hear the waves. Very private pool, so clean and crystal. If you do visit please remember to respect the area and the locals.
