Good Condo in a Great location
A guest from Jackson, WY recommends this property. Stayed for 29 days in April, 2016 The location of Puu Poa is fabulous (right on a cliff overlooking the ocean) and unit 214 has some advantages including minimum stairs to climb (no unit can be accessed with no stairs), cross ventilation (due to being an "end" unit, and no glare from the western setting sun (although that means you can not view the sun set from the lanai). The condo was spacious and well equipped as far as furniture and cooking equipment. We stayed a month and cooked most breakfasts and dinners, and were happy with what we had. The maintenance could have been better - the entryway lanai drain was stopped up, causing a couple of inches of standing water after a rain, and it took two calls to maintenance to get them to address the problem and while they made it better, they still didn't get it to drain properly. The dining room chairs needed pads on the bottoms (I bought and installed some pads myself, but it needs to be done professionally sanding the bottoms and installing larger pads). There is a broken shower fixture in the master bath (fortunately it was one of two fixtures and the other one was fine, so we just used the working one). Despite the maintenance issues we would recommend Puu Poa 214 to others and would consider staying there again on our next visit to Kuaii.
A guest from Loveland, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2016 We could not have been happier with our stay at Puu Poa 214. The location of the condo was perfect and the view, incredible! We were lucky enough to be able to see whales and turtles from the lanai. We also enjoyed walking to the beautiful beach at the St. Regis next door. We did have to contact Ahh Aloha to report a couple of minor maintenance issues, but they were very responsive, offering to send someone over immediately to fix them. I would definitely recommend this condo to anyone looking for an ideal place to stay on Kauai's north shore.
Jack P. from Lewisville, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in February, 2016 This condo was everything the listing promised. Great location, quite, yet convenient. So many whales we lost count.
A guest from Christchurch, Canterbury recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2015 Loved our stay at this modern and well equiped unit.Views are as good as the pictures and location very convenient for this area. Our only complaint is the lighting- we like to read at night and lighting in both the living area and main bedroom were insufficent for this.
A guest from West Topsham, VT recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2015 Enjoyed staying at Puu Poa 214 very much. It was well supplied with beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers and misc. items like napkins. The location was very good. Liked walking to Hideaway Beach and beach by St. Regis hotel. Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals is very professional.
Ann Marie K. from Webster Groves, MO recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in November, 2015 The proporty was wonderful. Amazing view and very well kept. The only thing that needed attention was the coffee pot did not work and the TV in the living room needed batteries for the remote to work so we could not use that to watch movies we rented. We were onlyt their for 2 days so we made due and went out for coffee. I left a note to housekeeping letting them of these 2 items. Otherwise the propoerty was wonderful and our experince was great. The individual that we made the reservation wiht was very helpful adn accomodating. She really went out of her way to help us as this was a last minute stay. We had originally booked a hotel and when we arrived it was very run down and we decided not stay there any longer. The porpoerty was very clean and had everything we needed. Just need new coffee pot.
A guest from San Rafael, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 5 days in September, 2015 We recently stayed at Puu Poa 214 for five nights. Here is a quick review-The good: The condo was clean. The location was good, right next to the St. Regis in Princeville, with a nice view in the morning of the sunrise. There were beach towels and beach chairs for use and it was lovely to be able to hear the ocean from the master bedroom. The unit was quiet and private. The not so good: There was a heat wave while we were there and no air con in the unit. I was ready to check out and stay elsewhere, but luckily it cooled down! I don't think this is normally an issue in this area, but it was for us. There was only one fan, so had to move it from room to room. The beach is down a steep cliff, using a rope with a lot of mud, so not easily accessible. Due to the positioning of the unit, the sunset is not viewable from the condo. Overall, it felt like a rental with cheap/minimal supplies in the kitchen, uncomfortable living room furniture and no extras. I also felt the price of $350 a night (once taxes and cleaning fees were added in) was excessive for this unit. Overall the view was great and the condo was "fine".
Jeremy W. from Mc Kinney, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2015 Puu Poa 214 was a perfect spot for our honeymoon! Very clean and comfortable unit with spectacular ocean views. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic and affordable getaway in Princeville!
A guest from Lake Forest Park, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2015 all we can say is that we had an amazing stay at Puu Poa 214. great access to beaches and the magical Queen's bath. weather was perfect resulting in spectacular views in every direction. we would love to stay here again some day. Ahh Aloha was very accommodating to our needs.
Chad H. from Bellevue, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in May, 2015 Talk about an ideal spot with a spectacular view! I was a little nervous with it being the end unit but was happily surprised with the privacy and fantastic views. The condo itself was beautiful and we were blown away by the luxury of it. Love this place, can't wait to come back!
Mojdeh Z. from Pasadena, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in February, 2015 All was good, but we did not have extra set of sheets as we were told we wold. we had to wash the sheets ourselves and no back ups.
Candice H. from Monte Rio, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in January, 2015 Great location, wonderful view and property grounds. This condo is excellent, very clean and comfortable. Will come back for many more visits.
A guest from Carmel, IN recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in January, 2015 Stay was fine except the oven didn't work. Called the maintenance number and was told someone would come to fix. No one ever showed up in two weeks. Otherwise the stay was great.
Steve W. from Kokomo, Indiana recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in December, 2014 It was a wonderful stay on the island of Kauai. The rental was clean, spacious, and in a great location. The view from the lanais were breathtaking. Would definitely stay there again.
A guest from San Diego, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2014 Nice place, views were great, very close to public walkway down to the beach in front of the St. Regis, and about 2 miles to Princeville center. The condo was very clean and up-to-date. The first night I had difficulty sleeping the waves were so loud. The key is to shut all the windows at night, then they are modest. We were moved here from a condo with a full 180 view of Hanelei Bay, that was next to a construction project. Won't rent from Ahh Aloha again, as they knew the construction was ongoing and still rented to us.
Gerald S. from Sonoma, California recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in November, 2014 Just returned from 6 days at 214. A wonderful condo. Beautiful views with TWO patios! Location was squeezed between the St. Regis beach and Hideaway Beach. Walked over to St. Regis in a.m. to get espresso. Their beach is really nice and if you are sneaky, can use their jacuzzi/pool! Short drive to Princeville and Hanalei. Rooms had lots of open screen doors...very airy, clean and well stocked kitchen. Needed a couple of small things though. Needed a brush for bbq grill. Two beach chairs are really funky and for a small cost, could have a couple of better fold up beach chairs (current ones have a bar that hits you right in your back...pretty uncomfortable). Great having washer/dryer in condo. Master shower is great. Beds comfortable. Nice having fins available. Needed a couple of masks, but no big deal. Snorkeling off St. Regis beach fair...saw enough fish and ran into a giant sea tortise on last day! An old guy. Pretty amazing. We will come back!
A guest from GEELONG, VICTORIA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in August, 2014 We had an amazing time on Kauai . It was the prefect place to relax on beautiful beaches but we also did some walking to explore the coastline. Everything about Puu Poa was great. The only thing missing was sun lounges on the deck to relax on to watch the sunset etc.
alan f. from San Diego, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2014 I had a vacation rental on Kauai for ten years. I understand how hard they are to maintain. The home was clean and well appointed. We really enjoyed our stay! A few things to note: We always try to avoid mosquitos. The sliding door screens have tears, the kitchen screen was broke and the beach towels were child size. But, Great Job!
Robert P. from Farmington, NM does not recommend this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2014 Start out by saying how beautiful Kuaui, was on our stay. The condo and view was beautiful. BUT our luxury condo, did not have air-conditioning and that made our stay miserable. We had no idea that our condo would be without air-conditioning. If I had known in advance would not have accepted this condo. Need to clarify units with and without air-cons.
Raj S. from Suwanee, Georgia recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2014 Great property with a wonderful view. Nicely furnished with quality all around. Great ocean views and amazing night sky with the milky way visible from the lanai!
Beverly B. from San Francisco, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2014 We had a wonderful stay and absolutely loved waking up to the sound of the ocean and the view. The home was nicely decorated and we had everything we needed in the kitchen for the few times we used it. Great outdoor space and so conveniently located. Thanks so much!!
Sharon R. from Fountain Valley, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2014 Puu Poa 214 is breathtaking. My husband and I stayed June 11th - June 18th, 2014. The entire condo exceeded our expectations. The pictures that you see online are amazing, but I found this property even better than the pictures. The only con I had was no air conditioning. The fan was great, but it needs some air conditioning.
Nora L. from Ross, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2014 Since Unit #401 was booked for the last half of our stay at the Puu Poa and instead of moving to a different part of the island, we opted to stay at the same condo development but in a different unit, #214, at the exact opposite end. Great decision on my part if I must say so myself. This unit was lovely also and provided a different view of the ocean in that we saw bluffs and more of the coastline than in #401. The kitchen and master bathroom were very nice and spacious and sparkling clean! The shower in the master bathroom was large enough for a small crowd and nicely fitted with 2 showerheads and pretty marble tile. Once again, Cathy was superb and extremely helpful with her advice and suggestions and agreed that my choice to stay at the Puu Poa again was an excellent one. As she said " you won't be disappointed" and right she was. I would highly recommend both the Puu Poa and Cathy should your plans lead you to Kauai and Princeville.
Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals So glad you liked it!!! Come back and stay with us again soon :-)
A guest from Prince George, BC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 15 days in February, 2014 I am the travel agent that booked my client in this property for 10 days, which came highly recommended. The last week in December my clients plans changed for them to leave 2 days eairlier. I called to change the date and asked for a refund of the 2 unused days. I was told that NO CHANGE COULD BE MADE AND NO REFUND WOULD BE GIVEN. Any change should have been made at final payment. I told your rep that this was very unsual, as any condo or hotel I have ever dealt with, there would be no problem of not charging for days not stayed. So my clients got there and found the following:No phoneNo ToasterBroken dishwasherBroken Screen doors, which they communicated to someone there. This property WAS NOT INSPECTED for rental, it was just reported as ok by your on site person without any real hands on checking. To my dismay, I got a call from you asking how to get in touch with the Kanes, as they had no phones. So I told the person "You are there, leave a note on there door"4 days later, I got an email asking me to leave the key in the drop box - wow! As I was away from the office I forwarded this to the Kanes email, hoping they had their lap top with them, which they did. Very frustrating correspondence began with hardly any resolution and a 10% rebate offer to my clients.I think nothing short of a 50% rebate would make this situation right and I am sure you can use it as a tax write off.I expect to hear from you regarding this matter.Fay Wong
A guest from St Paul, MN recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in February, 2014 Beautiful property, beautiful complex, beautiful location. Spectacular views. Only two concerns. We arrived at night and it was very difficult to find the right condo, both building and our condo, in the pitch black. Other residents finally helped us. We also believe 214 would be safer at night if the interior entry were lit ( my spouse tripped going over the raised entry into the living area, and then fell as he could not see the steps up to the dining light switch as you enter the home). The owner might consider these safety concerns. We would both recommend 214 and return ourselves, now knowing we must be careful in the dark.
Ruth Z. from Springville, UT recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2014 We were very pleased with our stay in Puu Poa 214 in Princeville. We arrived in the evening (approx 8:00 pm) and knocked on the door of the prop. mgr. We were needing directions to our unit. The mgr was a little "disoriented" and struggled for a minute. But he was able to give us directions to our unit. The Condo is on the second floor, facing the coast. Absolutely amazing views from the livingroom/kitchen area and from the master bedroom. First thing we saw and heard every morning when we awoke was the crashing waves. The Condo was very clean and very well stocked. We would definitely stay here again. The only problem was that the (outside) entryway flooded when it rained. The drain was clogged so it turned the patio into a wading pool. But, overall a great experience. We would definitely stay here again.
Keith K. from Delray Beach, Florida recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2013 The property was very clean, great location. It was open and spacious. The complain we have was that the kitchen was not well stocked. For an upscale place, the place should have a more well stocked kitchen with matching wine glasses etc. The lanai needs some TLC. Needs to be more dressed up and updated furniture. Overall, it is a beautiful place.
Mark R. from San Francisco, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in September, 2013 A short walk to secluded beaches with great snorkeling and even shorter walk to the St Regis for sunset and champagne.
Teresa R. from Oveido, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2013 Lovely condo - great upgraded kitchen! Couldn't get the living tv to work but not a big deal since we were enjoying the amazing sites of Kauai. Highly recommend this unit and I would stay there again.
A guest from Boise, ID recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2013 We were completely satisfied with our rental experience. The management company and the resident groundskeeper could have not been nicer. The accommodations were exactly as described except for the absence of beach towels. The location was exceptional allowing us to have the vacation we were anticipating. We would book this accommodation again.
Michael M. from Peoria, AZ recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2013 Sliding doors didn't lock. Sliding screen on one door wouldn't open. Blinds in kitchen and dining room hard to operate. Second shower head in master would not give hot water. Entry door lock hard to lock and unlock. Tv in bedroom to small. Other than that we had a real nice stay.
THERESA G. from EL DORADO HILLS, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2013 My family and I loved Puu Poa 214. The views from both lanais were awesome! The beach chair, umbrella and the ice chest was a plus. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.
A guest from Lincoln, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2013 Although we have been Kauai many times, this was the first time we stayed in the Princeville area. The rental condo was awesome, we felt very much at home. Overlooking the ocean with beautiful sunsets and great walking trails made our stay very relaxing. The location was ideal with a trail to a very beautiful beach. Will definitely return.
Matthew T. from Sydney, NSW recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2013 The overall experience was very good. The accommodation was great but unfortunately just a few hiccups with maintenance problems such as the fly screen broken, kitchen power points not working, and most annoying of all was that the wifi connection not working when we were there but overall we loved staying at this property. The views from the balconies were fantastic with views of the ocean, the turtles and the Bali High sunsets. Couldn't ask for more. Very quiet and terrific for self catering.
David M. from Camarillo, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2013 Very happy with condo. 2 issues: a. only 1 decent beach chair. b. could not lock sliding glass door from living room onto terrace. Would stay in this condo again.
A guest from San Mateo, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2013 Really glad we rented this condo. The location was perfect - spectacular views from inside and out. Loved that there were two beautiful beaches within walking distance, although not easy access for someone with physical disabilities or limitations. Everything very clean and fresh. Our only complaint was that there weren't any beach towels. Everything else great. Nice rental experience and good value.
A guest from Sturgeon Bay, WI recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2013 We had a wonderful time at Puu Poa. This unit was beautifully decorated and very clean. The two large lanais were awesome and the view from the master bedroom was incredible. We had just a couple of small issues. First of all, none of the electrical outlets on the back wall of the kitchen worked. We informed maintenance and they came right away and fixed one outlet so that we had one to use. They said they would be back with parts to fix the others, but we never saw them. The other issue was that this unit is very close to the road and there is traffic noise in the second bedroom. The maintenance issues can be easily fixed. I still would recommend this unit, especially if you don't need to use the second bedroom.
Mary G. from Albluquerque, NM recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in February, 2013 This condo was a great place to stay. I was there with a friend and another couple, and there was ample space for all of us. The views of the ocean were awesome, and you could leave the sliding doors of the master bedroom open and hear the waves all night. We were able to view many whales from our lanai as well, and it was useful to have a pair of binoculars too, but it wasn't necessary. If you're into watching television (as one of my friends was), it was a little confusing to use all the remotes, but there were detailed instructions on how to turn things on and off. The kitchen was stocked well with nice dishes and pots and pans. It was also a pleasant surprise that there was a boogie board to use from the condo. I would highly recommend this condo to anyone who wants beautiful views, comfortable surroundings, and a great location on the north end of Kauai. Also, you're footsteps away from the plush St. Regis Hotel. Mahalo!!!
Lori B. from Bellevue, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 30 days in January, 2013 This was our second stay at 214 and overall we are very pleased. The unit was exceptionally clean when we arrived and seeing the gorgeous view from the deck was breathtaking. The unit has all the expected amenities plus items that are a nice touch, ie: salad/lettuce spinner, blender, ample silverware/utensils, plastic/foil etc.We would have given five stars all around except for a few minor repairs needed and the furniture is looking a little tired.Otherwise we were very happy and plan to rent again next year. Thanks,
A guest from Albuquerque, NM recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2012 This condo unit had an absolutely gorgeous view in a nice, quiet location of the complex. The complex is conveniently located in a beautiful setting! It was very clean, interestingly decorated and comfortable. This was a perfect place for our small family of three. Even though the kitchen and dining area was near the road, that did not deter from its appeal. It was not too much of a problem for us in December, but here was not an umbrella for the lanai table; apparently a new one was on order. There were many beach toys and chairs we were able to use. Snorkel and tennis equipment was available, too. There was even had a small electric barbeque on one of the patios. The bathrooms were very updated, and the washer and dryer were a great plus for us. The screens and windows and blinds could use some updating. Reservations were easy, everyone involved was wonderful to work with. I'd reccomend this condo to others. We had a fabulous time on Kauai, and would love to stay here again. Aloha!
Marcel D. from Quebec City, Quebec recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in October, 2012 This was our second stay north of Kauai. We love this place so lush and energizing. We enjoyed the condo. It had everything we needed for a great vacation: sets of snorkeling, beach chairs, cooler, tennis rackets. . . The location was perfect: 2 miles from the mall where we find a Foodland and Wine Market, just up the Puu Poa beach, 45 minutes walk from Queen's bath, 10 minutes from Anini Beach, 15 minutes Hanalei, 30 minutes from Kee Beach. . . The view we had from the two terraces was amazing. The place was quiet and fenestrated. Super! Thank you.
Caitlin D. from Omaha, NE recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2012 Kauai is a special place for us. We were engaged and married on Kauai. We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary on Kauai and our 10th (a year and a half delayed..) anniversary on this trip. This was the first of our four visits that we chose a condo over the Princeville, now the St Regis. We are already planning to spent our 15th anniversary celebration at Puu Poa 214; it made that much of an impression on us. The unit's conveniences are fantastic -- excellent wifi connection, good sized flat screen tv (there was a big Huskers game to view while we were there!), washer/dryer, plenty of cookware, cutlery, and basic utensils, and a grill -- the views are magnificent, and the accommodations are absolutely top notch, completely updated and thoroughly modern. We thought the value/price per night was completely reasonable for such a lovely property. Great kitchen and luxurious bathrooms. One item to note, something so small that it feels petty to mention it, but future visitors should know: 214's building is the furthest from the pool (not that far, really), and there is no restroom/cabana down there. No big deal, just have it in mind if you spend time at the pool. That said, the pool is well maintained and overlooks the most perfect vista. Cannot wait to return!
Schaquil D. from Carpentersville, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2012 The view from Pu'u Poa 214 was beautiful inside and out. It was nicely appointed although the tv was a little confusing to figure out (the owner does have a very detailed list on what to do). It was a couple of miles to the nearest store, but it was a beautiful walk and there are quite a few little restaurants in there as well. Careful going down the path to the beach, but bring the snorkel stuff with (we forgot). You could see fish a couple feet off the shore. The family upstairs were noisy in the morning, but that can't be blamed on the owners of the rental. There wasn't a view of hanalei bay which I know some people complained about, but the view was still incredible, blue skies above blue water below. My only complaints were with the great double shower in the master, hot water did't last nearly long enough to enjoy it. Also we weren't allowed to open the kitchen windows due to water damage which makes for really hot cooking. If guests can't open the window while cooking place a small fan on the counter to blow the hot air out. the ceiling fan in the dining area didn't help keeping it cool.
Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals I don't know if the note is unclear or the guest misinterpreted it, but you're welcome to open the kitchen window. We ask only that you close it IF IT RAINS in order to prevent water damage. The hot water is normally more than sufficient to run the washing machine, the dishwasher and the shower simultaneously. The shower has a valve that controls the water temperature, it sounds as if it was moved to a lower setting. But we will have maintenance look at it, just in case...
A guest from Colville, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2012 The location was great and the updated condo was very nice. There were several problems though including the fact that we were given the incorrect lock box code and couldn't get into the condo on a Saturday evening. Further, the lighting in the condo was terrible, more than half of the lights inexplicably didn't work. In fact several things were broken or didn't work (iPod player, coffee maker, there was no outdoor umbrella). So overall the condo was great (location, updates) but the details were considerably lacking.
Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals Fortunately we have a guest services manager in Princeville as well as a 24-hour emergency number, so that a guest can get immediate assistance if they have trouble getting in. For things like burnt out lights or a non-working coffee maker, all a guest needs to do is let us know, and we are happy to take care of it at once. We prefer that -- finding out about and fixing problems immediately, rather than waiting to read about them in a review!! We want our guests to be happy and comfortable, and are happy to help.
Hyun k. from cedar park, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2012 I used this place as my honeymoon.I miss this place already. Very clean and great decoration and all the kitchen stuff. I wish to come back next year. Make sure you check out the secret down hill path to the beach. The scenery from the beach is breathtaking.
Bill A. from Cupertino, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2012 The condo is absolutely beautiful and very, very well equipped. The kitchen appliances, pots and pans, and utensils are the best I have ever seen in a rental condo. The only negatives are the condo's location in the complex. It does not face Hanalei bay and the sunset is not visible from the patio. The window in the second bedroom is very near the street, and traffic is a bit annoying - no sound of the ocean.
Nicole B. from Lafayette, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2012 Spectacar view from 214. Condo was very nicely updated and very spacious. It was perfect for a family of 4. Could stay here for the day and hang out on the terrace, read, sun, whale watch. Pool overlooks ocean, small but nice and we were the only ones there. Beach access on North side of St. Regis leads to great beach, good for kids.
Lori B. from Bellevue, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 26 days in January, 2012 Sandy (and her folks) at Ahh Aloha are a pleasure to work with. We have rented several condos and have been very happy.
A guest from Lake Forest Park, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in January, 2012 Puu Poa 214 is a gorgeous condo with amazing views in an awesome location. The complex is very quiet. We hardly heard a peep from the neighbors. The furnishings, amenities and decor are just lovely. I loved the tile floors, the two lanais - one off the master bedroom, the well-stocked open kitchen, and the unobstructed ocean views. We saw whales jumping in the distance! Amazing! We had a couple of issues, though, which we reported and hopefully will be taken care of - the fridge seemed to be malfunctioning - too warm in the cool section and TOO cold in the frozen section, the door to the microwave was broken, and I received some inconsistent information from the booking agent when I asked about particular items in the condo. I was told there weren't any stand alone fans or beach umbrella, but both of these items were indeed in the condo. I'm glad we didn't buy our own umbrella beforehand, which we almost did... So overall, it is a wonderful property and I would return and/or recommend it to a friend. One last note about the absence of air-conditioning, which nearly turned me away from renting it initially (coming from the NW and very sensitive to heat). There is such a nice breeze coming off the ocean and in through the wide lanai doors, we were never too warm.
Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals The fridge will do that if you change the settings on it, which you aren't supposed to do. If it's set too cold, too much of its energy goes to freezing and not enough to refrigerating. And we would rather under-promise and over-deliver when it comes to the small optional amenities like a beach umbrella :-)
A guest from Ipswich, Suffolk recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2011 Renting the property was efficient and the description met expectations. We had a wonderful 4 days on Kauai at Puu Poa but two points let us down slightly1 we did not realise how far the property was from the airport or how expensive car rental was2 as we arrived late and had no rental car, it was clear where we could buy food or eatWhilst we resolved the problem ourselves (by eating at St Regis that night and walking 2 miles to shops next day), it did mar our initial expectationsThe appartment was very good; the only small point being that the bed linen could do with being refreshed/replaced. Else we really enjoyed our stay and would use the location if we returned to Kauai.
A guest from Rochester, NY recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in December, 2011 Fantastic quiet corner condo. Ocean views from kitchen, living room, and master bedroom. Fully stocked kitchen, cooking dinners at home was relaxing. Loved the huge master bathroom too. Walking distance to Princeville st Regis beach and also small hidden beach down bluff.
Roland S. from Temeculah, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2011 Overall the condo was a good place to stay and a good value. There are some things that need attention in order to maximize the condo's appeal:~~ The internet service needs upgrading. The service tech that came to the condo to fix the troublesome wireless access, noted that the router needed upgrading in order to do a good job of providing that service.~~ Ditto for the cable service. HD channels were impossible to get and the rest of the equipment, DVD player, surround sound and so on, were not working or too difficult to figure out. Granted we were not there for the TV, but if its there it should work perfectly.~~ Some of the blinds in the kitchen/dining room are non-operational. They need repair or replacement. Some windows and doors proved difficult to open. Master bedroom closet slider needs attention.~~ Concierge service, while a pleasant person, did not offer much added value. We ended up making all our own arrangements for golf, dining, other activities and so on. In fact it took several days from the time I sent an email before departure and then leaving two phone messages after arriving before we finally connected. Thanks,Roland
Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals The internet and cable issues have been and remote updated, modem reset. The closet door has been adjusted, and windows are now working properly. We appreciate the detailed feedback and the opportunity to make subsequent guests' experiences problem free :-)
Ron S. from Manhattan, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2011 The week was spectacular - it allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the tropical spender. The location is perhaps the most ideal in the world for this. We are exceedingly thankful for the opportunity to stay in Puu Poa.
Issiac G. from Duarte, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in August, 2011 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pu'u Poa 214. The views from the condo were absolutely amazing. The condo was nicely furnished and the kitchen was modern and very well equipped. The double shower and double vanity in the master bath allowed us to cut our prepping and primping time in half. There were some maintenance issues, but the property management company handled them expeditiously! The washer was not working when we arrived and the bedding had not been cleaned properly. A new washer and dryer were delivered and installed a couple days later and the bedding for both bedrooms was replaced immediately. Prior to our arrival we had reviews which mentioned problems with the refrigerator malfunctioning. When we arrived, the freezer door was open and water had leaked onto the floor. We were careful to follow the advice of the property manager and we did not adjust the temperature settings. A few days later, we noticed that the interior of the freezer looked like the antarctic! After examine the door, we believe the real culprit is the seal on the door. A proper seal should nip this problem in the bud once and for all. The property was clean but extra care should be given to removing cob webs and dead insects and thoroughly mopping the floor. That aside, we appreciate the owners willingness to share their lovely condo with us! The best part of all is the condo sits above Hideaway Beach I and II which are the best snorkeling spots on the island! In addition, it is within walking distance of Queen's Bath and waterfall! The views of the crystal clear waters, Bali Hi and colorful sunsets make this a prime location. Maholo!
Jon W. from Murrieta, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 Only drawback was a broken washing we couldn't wash our towels or clothes...but that is the only complaint. Everything else was superb! Thank You
Cindy L. from Knoxville, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2011 Puu Poa 214 was beautiful! The ocean views were awesome! We loved the location and the layout of the condo. It had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The kitchen was well stocked with essentials, although it seemed to work best as a one person kitchen. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable, however, I missed having a nightstand on my side of the bed. Snorkeling on Hideaway Beach was unbelievable. There were a few maintenance issues (the patio umbrella was broken, there was no broom or dustpan to be found, the outside lights on the lanai didn't work and the blender leaked). Overall, we had wonderful time and would return in a heartbeat!
Raphael M. from Encino, California recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2011 We recently spent 3 nights at Puu Poa 214 in Princeville and really enjoyed our stay. If you're looking for a romantic and upscale getaway, this is the place. I'd certainly stay here in the future. I'll break down all the pros and cons belowPros: beautiful upscale property, breathtaking view from the living room and bedroom, fantastic master bathroom with twin showers, nicely equipped with flatscreen tvs, dvds, books, etc., great kitchen, about 100 yards from the beautiful St Regis hotel, reasonably affordableCons: although directly over the ocean - not on a beach, far away from most must see attractions (Wimea Canyon, Na Pali coast), slightly uncomfortable bed, no air conditioner in unit and no fan in the living room (ceiling fan in dining room)
Jane S. from Tacoma, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2011 What a beautiful place. We love the privacy of the unit. Even though it was next to the road, you didn't really notice the road noise much at all. The view is spectacular - best on the island (and we've been here a few times). The property was pretty clean and very spacious for a 2 bed unit. The lanai had a drain issue (a small lake formed one rainy night), but it was fixed the next day after we called to report it.We appreciated the peace and quiet of Pu'u Poa. All of the tenants seem to respect that as well. Joe was very friendly and helpful during our stay. Pu'u Poa beach has the best snorkeling in the island. The trail down was an adventure in itself! The stereo unit was a bit confusing - we never did get it to work, but all in all we loved staying here and were sad to go. We would definitely book this unit again. Mahalo!
Dickson L. from Renton, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2011 What a wonderful condo. Location is perfect. Great view of the ocean and looking down onto the Hideaway/Pali Ke Kua beach. I can always see the condition before heading down to the beach. These 2 beaches are just so secluded, with fantastic corals and sea lives for snorkelling. Very comfortable condo with all the amenities of home. Cooked out at the lanai with the electric grill for fish and steak, what a fantastic evening. The local manager Joe was very friendly and helpful as well. Didn't get to use the tennis court, but it seems available most of the time. Quiet neighborhood, great relaxation. Will definitely stay again in future. Mahalo for a wonderful condo.
A guest from Edina, MN recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2011 Loved it - views were amazing, especially waking up to the sunrise over the ocean every day. Unit updated tastefully and beautifully. We cooked in most meals, so we made great use of the awesome kitchen. There is a hidden little beach right off the back side by the pool which is tough to get to (very steep), but if you're physically fit it is awesome and pristine.
Amy S. from Baltimore, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2011 We loved Pua Poa 214 and we would definitely return. The place is well kept up, and the location was perfect. We loved hiking down to Hideaways daily to get in a morning snorkel. Our only complaint is that the guest bathroom did not seem to be carefully cleaned - there were some yucky hairs on the floor by the toilet. Apart from that, everything was perfect! It was especially nice that there was a closet with snorkel gear, a cooler, and a large fan.
Charles M. from League City, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 10 days in April, 2011 Where to begin... There were a multitude of problems that were never addressed. Upon arrival, dishes were in the dishwasher and not clean. The IPOD player didn?t function and I called maintenance (David) to report it on Thursday. He said that he would have someone come by on Friday morning at 9:30. We waited and no one showed, killing most of our morning. I called back and he reported that he actually didn?t do any of the work, he delegated it. He said that he would (personally) come by and verify that it didn?t work and replace it. He never showed, again. I called several times and either got the run around or never got a call back when messages were left. I called the property manager and they said that he was to replace it, but that never happened. When calling back to the property manager (about the inaction), there was no answer and no return call, although a request to do so was made. More importantly than this irritation was the refrigerator, which quit working on Friday. All of our food spoiled (we have figured a very, very conservative $125.00 worth of food), of which we have not been compensated for. Again, no one showed up to even give a cursory check of this important piece of equipment. Finally, I shut off the refrigerator for several hours and restarted it and it functioned properly for the rest of our time in the condo, but the damage was already done. While not reported, the outdoor table and chairs were rusting at the base and leaving significant rust remnants and stains on the lanai, debris of which stuck in my foot as a splinter. All in all, our stay at Puu Poa 214 really put a damper on our dream vacation and set a tone that was far from Aloha.
Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals Guests are asked in their pre-arrival check-in instructions not to change refrigerator settings, to leave the refrigerator set at "medium". When the switch is turned too low, it causes the coils to freeze and the fridge can no longer cool. Returning the temperature control to medium (or as in this case, shutting off the fridge for several hours) allows the coils to thaw so the fridge will cool again. That is normally what maintenance will instruct a guest to try first, before scheduling a service call. When our guest called to report the refrigerator problem, he stated that he had changed the settings, and therefore caused the problem himself. Our sincere apologies that no one addressed the ipod not working, the owner wanted to check that it was still under warantee before going to the expense of replacing, and unfortunately that could not be accomplished instantaneously. An ipod dock, while a nice extra, is not an essential nor a guaranteed item.
A guest from Rachute, QC recommends this property. Stayed for 12 days in March, 2011 We stayed in unit 214 and cannot recommend it enough. The view was awesome and non obstructed with ocean (no hanalei bay view in this building). Never heard any noise of neighbors. Superb quiet ambiance and sleeping to the sound of waves. Managers and responsibles for rental (Sandy at Ahh Aloha) were very helpful and responding quickly to any requests we had before and during our stay. They called to be sure we were satisfied with our rental upon our arrival and even accommodated our special arrival time. The unit is spotless, very romantic master room and much better than pictures. They renewed the kitchen too so it's even nicer now. Our only suggestion would be to eventually change the mattress in the guest room, was a little old and uncomfortable, but nothing to spoil the stay! The buildings show some age but we can see they are maintaining regularly. It is honestly the best pick you can do in Princeville, close to Hanalei (which we felt in love with), grocery very nearby too and all other activities. We visited the entire island from North hosting and would not do it otherway when we come back. The north is much nicer! No comparison with south Kauai nor east in our honest opinion. Enjoy! And if you can rent in Puu Poa, you are very lucky and can travel in peace of mind. Aloha to you.
Melissa K. from Wichita, Kansas recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in February, 2011 Beautiful condo with an amazaing view. Sleeping to the sound of the surf was fabulous. You won't be disappointed!
Mark H. from Croton-on-Hudson, NY recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2011 We had a fantastic time at this condo! It's huge, in excellent condition & located at the edge of a 200' cliff overlooking the ocean next to the St Regis in Princeville. The first thing you experience when you open the door is the ocean views from huge double patios,Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen & MBR. Next is the sound of crashing surf from every room! Most memorable: breakfast on the patio table every morning with whales breaching below us. It's a 10 minute drive to reef-protected Annini Beach where you swim with turtles. You can also walk via access path to the beach in front of the St. Regis (summer beach). We'll be back at 214 next year for sure...maybe sooner!
A guest from Bellevue, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2010 It was awesome place to stay for a vacation!!! I am very impressive with ocean front view, fell into slumber along with wave sounds. My family and I really enjoyed our stay!
Christine P. from Mililani, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in December, 2010 AMAZING!!!! The location was perfect. Close to everything fun. The beach below was beautiful. The condo was beautiful with a beautiful view. Nicely stocked with everything we needed. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay. We will definitely tell our friends about this place!
A guest from Marina Del Rey, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2010 We spent 7 amazing nights in this beautiful property. We could not have been happier with how clean and organized the condo was. The beach just below the property ended up being our favorite in all of Kauai. We cant wait to return and have recommended the property to friends.
A guest from Columbus, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2010 I definitely recommend Puu Poa 214. It was immaculate. The view was amazing. Location can't be beat. It was well equipped - hair dryers, coffee maker, some basic spices in the kitchen, cooler, beach chairs, etc. The bed was comfortable. The best part was the view and the huge lanai with the ocean view. I want to go back!
A guest from St. George, UT recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2010 Only complaint we had was that their TV, VCR, stereo was very complicated to use. Not sure why you would need a TV in Kauai, but some music is always nice.
Sarah W. from Silver Spring, MD recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in September, 2010 We were amazed by the view and happy about the accommodations and privacy. The condo was even better than the pictures promised. We hope to be back next year.
A guest from San francisco, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in July, 2010 Thank you for all your help and assistance. We are looking forward to staying again in the future. Thanks for making our stay affordable and memorable,
Mark Z. from Cincinnati, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in June, 2010 The condo was a great place to stay in Princeville and I would recommend it to all. It was clean, nicely decorated and the view was incredible. The only complaint is that the lights in the kitchen and dining area were dim overall it was a great experience.
Melissa M. from Victoria, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2010 Never having been to Kauai before, and coming in to Princeville in the dark, we had no idea the paradise we were going to wake up to the following morning. Unobstructed ocean views from the bedroom and living room. We liked the quieter laid back feel of the north island and it's beaches! This place really was fabulous, and we would be back there in a heartbeat!! We highly recomend this condo!!
Tamela P. from Welches, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in April, 2010 This Condo was wonderful! This was our 3rd time to the Puu Poa Condos! Everything was superb in the condo, very clean and well equipped. The master roon bed was so very comfy and I absolutely loved the shower!!! Lovely condo..we will definately be back! A "10"!
A guest from Kapaa, HI recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2010 Property is beautiful. There are a lot of bugs and insects and the outdoor lights did not work. It would have been nice to spend evenings on the beautiful decks but there was no lights. The entry door lights were also burnt out. The disposable didn't work. The cold water on master bedroom right side was broken. Ice maker not hooked up. When we got to the property at 4 pm, the housekeeper was half way through with the unit. But the beauty of the beach made the stay nice.
Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals The garbage disposal has been replaced. An electrician is scheduled to repair the outdoor lighting when current guest departs. Bathroom faucets have now been replaced, and water line to ice maker hooked up again. We do try to address maintenance problems as soon as we are made aware of them! Our check-in time is 3pm, but occasionally a departing guest fails to check-out on time and it's not possible for the cleaner to finish by 3pm. While we regret the inconvenience, we want to insure cleaning is done properly, even if it causes slight delay.
