Nice home away from home
Veronica V. from Humble, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2016 apartment was nice and clean. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen had almost everything you would need during your stay. Only thing we had an issue with is we thought we had a view of the beach from our room. It looked that way in the pictures. No biggie.
A guest from San Antonio, Texas does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2016 Somewhat chaotic on picking up keys off site. Office staff was somewhat rude. Too many housekeeping rules for example, a $50 fee if I didn't take out the trash, although I was charged a cleaning fee on top of my rental fee. The blinds on the one window were broken. A shade was on top of the broken blinds that provided little blockage from the intense morning sun. The beds did not have bottom sheets so we were sleeping on mattress pads with cooties. The ceiling fan had a layer of dust that had accumulated over a long period of time. The thermostat was in a corner by a huge armoire and table that made it almost impossible to reach. Check in and out times are ridiculous and I promise you they will not give you keys until 4pm. I arrived at 330 and they would not give me access.
Morgan S. from Pflugerville, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2016 The room was roomy for an efficiency, and just a short walk down the boardwalk to the beach. We wanted to stay as close to Sandfest as possible so we could walk, take breaks with the kids, etc. Their beach boardwalk spit you out right at Sandfest! Beds were comfy. Definitely will go here next year!
Benjamin H. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2015 The property was well kept and the room was in excellent condition. A/C, fridge, oven, and all other appliances worked fine, WiFi was uninterrupted throughout our stay. Beach access was convenient, and not overcrowded, even in August. No noticeable noise at night, slept great. The only quibble would be the process to get your key during after hours arrivals - the combo lock was difficult, and there were mosquito swarms around the box that made the process of getting your key even more annoying. But eventually we did and everything was great from there.
Reviewed by: dalila h. recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2015 More than i expected. Friendly staff and very helpful. Even the other guest went out of there way to be courteous and friendly. The room was spotless and clean. The appliances looked new. Overall a great experience at an affordable price
A guest from Austin, TEXAS recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2015 Great experience! Private beach access - and to a particularly nice part of the beach (my top priority). Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was cute and clean (nothing fancy - older, remodeled). Close to a great little coffee shop (Coffee Waves) and lots of restaurants. Only thing to know is that the property manager for this unit is across the street, not the main office on-site (so you'll need to go across the street to pick up the keys). Overall, a great little get-away!
A guest from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2015 Booked this studio on short notice. It was the cleanest we've stayed in, in PA, as well as the price was excellent. We'll be back.
Alberto G. from Live Oak, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2015 We really enjoyed our stay. The unit served its purpose. Hot shower and comfy beds. We were close to the beach and a short drive to great dining. Just relaxing by the pool was nice. The grounds are well kept and the staff we encountered were very polite. I will definitely be using the sand bar in the future... Also, thank you soooo much to the managements prompt response when I accidentally locked myself out!
Rebecca A. from Cat Spring, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in March, 2015 The complex was clean and supplied everything I Needed. There were places for activities, the pool and it was a short walk to the beach.
Richard B. from Richmond, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2014 The sofa pull out bed was completely unusable for anyone over about 20 pounds. Should be replaced. We did not need the extra bed otherwise it would have been a complete disaster. The place was clean, neat and a good location.
Danielle W. from Cedar Park, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2014 The location was perfect! Only a couple minutes to the beach, which was clean and not crowded this time of year. Condo was very clean inside! Not a single bug to be found. Very homey, had all appliances and utensils I could have asked for. We were really close to all the awesome stores and restaurants. Only a short drive away from Corpus and other fun places. I will definitely come back to this location next year.
Rafael A. from Conroe, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2014 Resort was at walking distance from a nice beach, room was not that nice.Blinds were broken, dead bugs on the floor, and old rusted furniture inthe restroom. Too pricey for the condition of the room.
Reviewed by: A guest does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2014 The AC worked and the shower worked. Not much else to say. We have stayed at nicer places at the island retreat. No balcony or view. It was fine. Not great.
Teresa P. from Gainsville, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2014 The grounds were wonderful, except for the unit itself,. This unit is not managed by the office on site. Must go through booking agency.
A guest from Round Rock, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2014 Nice quite little condo. It's a small little studio apartment that can sleep a family of 4. Nice little kitchen, a little bit of a drive/hike but close enough to everything! This has always been pretty clean when we arrive. No weird smells. Really cold AC. Plenty of hot water for a family of 4. Our cars and stuff were safe. This is not a huge place, but hey, your just sleeping there! We will stay there again!
A guest from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2014 We got there and the toliet did not flush, we called the property management and within an hour a plumber came out and fixed it. We were a group of four girls there for Spring Break. We just needed somewhere to sleep and eat, this location was perfect for that. It's small and the location was not bad, you can walk to the beach.
Ann H. from Killeen, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in February, 2014 The location and cleanliness of the property was exactly what I was looking for in a vacation rental. However, two things stuck out that didn't make the experience enjoyable; the musty smell of the room and overall ambiance of the room. Several of the pillows, like the throw pillows on the couch and the bed, need to be replaced due to wear and tear. There is a lot of rust on the outside of the refrigerator, though the fridge itself worked just fine. Despite those two things I would stay here again, but would hope in the future these things would be addressed to make it a more pleasurable experience.
Property Manager Response: Response from Port Aransas Escapes Thank you for the review. The owner has been informed several issues and they should be done this spring. We hope you will come back soon! Port A Escapes
Cindy P. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 1 days in October, 2013 The carpet was a little smelly. The dip in the floor was disconcerting. Overall a good stay though. Love the boardwalk to the beach and the grounds are well-kept.
A guest from Karnes city, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2013 I loved renting from Port A Escapes. They are great. Our property was ok. I wasn't fond of the musky smell and older appliances. But these things were tolerable. The pool was great. And overall the room suited our needs.
A guest from SA, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2013 The only window this property has faces the parking lot. There was a beer can cap behind the coffee maker which tells me it was not properly cleaned and the floor by the bathroom sink was sticky. The outside door of the fridge was rusty and the throw rug in the kitchen needed to be thrown away. Also, no bath matts or place to hang your wet swim suites and towels.
Our Experience at Island Retreat (positive and negative)
Kari G. from New Braunfels, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in August, 2013 We enjoyed being close to the beach, it was nice to be able to walk to the beach without getting in car. However we were not pleased w/ the condition of our room & some things. There is a large area on fridge door that is rusted & every time we walk by it, we thought spaghetti sauce was spilled all over it. There are few missing blind slats on the window, we were not able to change our clothes without hiding in bathroom. The rug in the kitchen is VERY FILTHY. It's something that we would throw away. The knives (Miracle Blades) weren't clean. The lid to large trunk (one that stores extra sheets, pillows, etc.) is broken, it wasn't safe to put suitcases on it without it moving around. On the morning of our check out, we wanted to vacuum the floor, but the handle to vacuum was broken, we could not get it to start. We went to condo office to ask for another vacuum & they weren't able to help. The manager in the condo office told us that we had to call a number to request for another vacuum, we explained that we are deaf & cannot make phone calls, so she made the phone call for us (w/ an attitude). No one showed up w/ another vacuum in time for us to vacuum before check out & return the key to you by 11 a.m. The website, rules print out, etc. said there is a dishwasher, but we did not see one, there is dishwasher soap under the sink, but no dishwasher? So we had to hand wash instead. We were disappointed to find out that you do not have ADA Compliance Kit for the deaf as it is required by law. See link: So we got 20% discount from the total cost because of this & we had to bring our own equipment which was not easy. Besides the stuff mentioned above, it was really nice to be so close to the beach, the swimming pool was very nice, loved the fact that it's a dog friendly place, the security patrols were very friendly, the front desk lady (not the manager) was very nice.Kari Graves
sheri j. from Boerne, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2013 Mattress was bad..******. The pillows were pathetic. There was no place to dry wet beachwear. Hey, we're gonna have wet beachwear. And the blinds didnt provide much privacy. Other than that, the location was great. The girls in the office were friendly. I didn't meet a single ****** person. Appliances worked. Everything else was great. Loved it and plan to be back next year. And I do so appreciate that my dogs were allowed. P.S. Tim fixed the suspended ceiling in the shower area and the bathtub trim. He felt sorry for the place. I was happy there.
Katie L. from San Antonio, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2013 We rented Ir-16 for a weekend at the beach. We specifically chose this unit based off of the glowing reviews and location. I was disappointed with the condition of the condo itself. When we walked in we were greeted by gritty floors (I expected sand, but I assumed that the floor would be cleaned prior to arriving) and the refrigerator door that I thought had splattered marinara sauce on it but it was actually stained from rust. The whole place had a strange smell (I think due to the humidity and the fact there is shag carpet over much of the area which absorbs all the moisture) and part of the ceiling in the bathroom was falling in. The blinds were also missing panels so I was glad that there was a bamboo shade covering the window, although we could still lay in bed and watch people walk by relatively clearly. It was pretty obvious that this particular unit has a lot of wear and tear on it and needs quite a bit of touch-up maintenance. While the size was perfect for our needs (only my husband and myself), next time we will look elsewhere (I would give this place 2.5 stars if I could). That being said, the walk to the beach is very convenient, and pool on site was very nice (overall, the grounds were well-maintained). Overall, I would probably stay at the Island Retreats again, just not this particular condo.
Reviewed by: A guest recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2013 The room looked very professional, but it didn't feel the part. The bed was very uncomfortable, and my children decided to sleep on the floor because it was softer than the sofa bed. It was too small of a room to say it's for four people just because it has a sofa bed. Another note was the fridge, it was so dirty with dried up oil, I'm guessing, but it was the first thing we saw when we opened the door. Overall, we went there for the beach, but the room just a little TLC.
Darren S. from Round Rock, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2013 This place was awesome. It's very clean and small and will can sleep 2 adults and 2 kids just fine. Very relaxing after a day in the sun. Nice little kitchen with all the tools also. Make sure you get the address of the rental before you get there (especially if arriving after hours) because the condo is a different address than the Port A Escapes office. We had a great time and will rent again!!
Barbara L. from Latham, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in November, 2012 We had never had been down to Port Aransas, so we had nothing to rely on but your reviews. We wanted a condominium close to the beach, but something we could afford and still enjoy the sites around the area.I highly recommend this rental group to anyone wanting a good place to relax with family. All the staff from checking in to our last day was great.Thank you. We will be back.
A guest from Lockhart, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2012 The trip and the weather were great. The condo was close to everything we needed and quiet and clean. It was a little smaller than antisapated but we were able to adapt with no problem.
A guest from Jonesboro, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2012 This was our second stay in this condo and it was wonderful just like last time. Condo is clean, comfortable and a great find.
Serrina W. from Brookshire, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2012 Our stay at the Island Retreat was great. The room was clean and had all basic ammenities, but it was very small. It was ok with us since we were there for the beach and island itself not the room. However if you intend on spending a lot of time in the room and require space you may want to look around. With that being said it was close to the beach and the property was great. I would bring my family to stay there again.
Reviewed by: A guest recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2012 We took our two young kids. There is no view, but that's ok, as we were out and about most of the time. The walk to the beach is short (10-15 min), although, lugging two kids, a wagon, and all the stuff was a little rough....there are 3 or 4 steps you have to go up on the boardwalk. The sand was pretty well packed, so the wagon rolled just fine. The place was very clean. Nice pool, lots of picnic tables and BBQ pits. Note: IR16 is rented by"Port Aransas Escapes", whose office is NOT located at "Island Retreat". We were a little confused when we arrived as to where to pick up our key. Just keep Port Aransas Escapes phone # with you, and they can help you find your way.
Bill P. from San Angelo, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2012 Had a great time, the condo was very nice for the price, we will be staying at this location again. we will book IR16 for our next stay.
A guest from Crosby, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2012 the room was small but clean and very nice. it came with everything you would need towels, pots pans etc... the property was very clean. I would definetly stay again and recommend to someone else.
Tiffany T. from San Antonio, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2012 A/C was broken when we arrived, it was 86* in our room, they didn't fix it until about 8:30pm. The room looked like we walked into 1975, old furniture, and appliances, asbestos ceiling and floor tiles. For the price, this place was a ripoff! I was told they had a military discount, did not receive it, was told at check out they would reimburse me the money and the owner would call and talk to me since I wasn't pleased - still hasn't happened! Not to mention they charge you an automatic cleaning fee then make you clean everything before you leave including removing all trash or you'll be charged another cleaning fee. Other than the location to the beach and bars, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! Waste of money, you'll be happier with the Days Inn down the road!
A guest from Pheonix, AZ recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2012 If you want a small well-equipped place to stay in Port Aransas, this is the place for you! It's in a great location close to the beach with nice grounds and pool. It's also pet friendly. Enjoy your stay!
John W. from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in February, 2012 The property exceeded expectations and was perfect for 2 plus a dog. The property is convenient to everything and is well maintained. We wouldn't hesitate to rent again.
Eric J. from Lansing, MI recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in February, 2012 We enjoyed our rental, once it was finally booked. It took us several attempts to get a property rented from the management company. They were very flexible, yet super unorganized. It would have been nice to have a set of instructions and phone numbers upon arrival so that we would have known what to do in case of emergency and what to do to check out.Our rental unit had many of the amenities that we needed, but we were missing one basic essential, a spatula (we had to borrow one for the week). We could have used a set of salt and pepper shakers, and a flashlight (the power went out) as well.
Jeanette H. from FT Worth, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2011 We had a great stay! The condo was very clean and had all the equipment needed to prepare full meals. There are grills and picnic table available around the property for BBQ. There was a large commons area to walk th
Kerre E. from New Braunfulls, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2011 Great place for my 3 year old and myself. Close to the beach. They need to upgrade the TV so that you can play DVDs though! Will be back next year!
sheri j. from Boerne, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2011 Best of all was Lynn at Port A Escapes; Got me a 3-night deal at a perfect place. Island Retreat was just great. A clean little condo that actually let me bring my dogs in. There is a shower outside so we kept them clean. We've already recommended it to others.
Johnny C. from Edgewood, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2011 The bed was bad needs a better matress, there was no view, couldn't get phone or Internet service in room. Left early.

JOrdan M. from Ft Worth, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2011 We walked in a the place smelled like dog pee. I think they had shampooed the carpets recently or something because the smell eventually went away, as it dried maybe? My 2 year old found cheeto balls in the sofa bed. Beds were uncomfortable. There is an oven but no sheet or dish to bake anything in. We had planned on making pig-in-a-blankets one morning. Had to improvise. The lights in the kitchen came on after about 15 minutes after flipping the switch, so I cooked breakfast by the light coming in the window. The dishes in the pantry weren't clean. TV was blurry, so winding the kids down at the end of the day could have been better. Went to pop a dvd in, discovered it wasn't even hooked up, so my husband moved the entertainment center to get it all plugged in, and then discovered there weren't even outlets in the tv to plug the cables in. The walk to the beach wasn't too far, but needed to be cleaned out...kind of like a tunnel that was partially buried in sand. Overall, the redeeming quality about this property was its location. We probably would have checked out after seeing everything, but I didn't want to waste even more time trying to find somewhere else to relocate to, having been unfamiliar with the area. Won't return.
Michael B. from Corpus Christi, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2011 I and my wife really enjoyed our stay at IR. The room was very clean and the staff were very hospitable. We would stay here again.
A guest from Double Oak, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2011 This unit was very over priced. The tv is so old and the picture was horrible. The floor sagged and just seemed depressing. The only thing that worked well was the airconditioner. I even called the company we went through to see if they had anything else since we rented this for my daughter and her friends and never received a call back.
Emily P. from Jonesboro, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2011 This condo was perfect for our extended weekend trip to Port Aransas. The condo was very nice and actually larger than I expected. Both the room and property were nice and clean. The pools were also nice. Only downside was that the boardwalk to the beach was a pretty good walk from the room so we chose to drive onto the beach instead of lugging all of our stuff and a small child on foot. We will definately stay again.
Excellent Property & Excellent Price! Photos don't do it justice!
A guest from LLano, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 1 days in June, 2011 This property was clean and perfect for our stay. The photos on the website just don't do it justice. It is so much cuter than I imagined. Perfect for 2 or 4 people. It is a studio, but it has a bed and a fold out couch bed, so it was perfect for us, plus only a nice short walk to the beach. Very nice property!
Tod J. from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in March, 2011 It was a bit of a do it yourself stay due to spring break but otherwise you could not ask for more. Port A Escapes was friendly and helpful at all times even during the rush of spring breakers which I am sure strained them to their limits. Thank you for a great time, we will definitely be coming back!
Alice P. from Austin, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2010 We appreciated the kitchen, the knives & all equipment. The bed was good. The lack of return air made for humid air in the apartment. The chest needs repair on one hinge. The TV was not good...snow visual.
A guest from Fort Hood, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2010 A few minor defects in the unit but to be expected due to the age of the property. It was over all a well kept unit and not a far walk to the beach or pool. The Rental Company was also very open and helpful about the few small issues that we had.
Phoebe K. from San Antonio, Texas recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2010 My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in Port A! The condo was really clean, well-maintained and well-furnished. It is only a short walk down the boardwalk to the beach and the two community pools were wonderful. Great for a weekend vacation that doesn't break the bank.

A guest from San Antonio, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in June, 2010 perfect location for a quick getaway. This condo was well kept. The beach is a short walk and the swimming pool was excellent. I didn't want to break the bank for a quick trip and this condo definitely fit the bill.
Fuzzy tv. pay up front, u bought it, u own it, u got it. enjoy your stay
A guest from RoundRock, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in June, 2010 Did not like paying all up front, and then you get what you got. Very cute and newly furnished room. Bad tv though, and the fam didn't like it. everything you need to live at the beach for a few days, just no support from the mngt company. will not use them again. love the area and hope people realize that your actually living in borrowed space.
A guest from Bullard, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2010 My husband and I talked on the phone with a lady named Brenda just before arriving. She seemed to be near retirement age or at least past sixty years old. We had been driving all day and it was very hot in the late afternoon when we arrived. Brenda seemed to be on break when we arrived, she was in the lobby there talking on her cell phone. Whom ever she was talking to must have been very important because she had no manners about greeting us or asking if we needed water or coffee...there was no Big Southern greeting, "can I get you anything---glad you all could make nothing like that; she was very asertive and to the point when I tried to ask her a question---three times she had to point me in the direction of the lady behind the desk...she clearly did not want to be bothered with us. Well, the lady be hind the desk was just as charming as Brenda...just take these keys--- here ---thank you... good bye!But she was polite and seemed nicer that you know who.I woke up with bug bits all over me mosly on my buttox and stomack. We looked for fleas---there were no fleas to be found anywhere the whole four nights that we had stayed there. I am sorry to report that the bits can only be bed bugs and form what I have read..good luck getting rid of them--- they are very hard to get rid of. I have washed everything we took in clorox and treated the luggage with pest stuff and have left them outside, until I am sure the bugs are dead. The nice lady that lives and takes care of the property there gets a five star as she was always helpful to us, even tho it was not her job to be.
