Beautiful house, great beaches
A guest from San Jose, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in July, 2015 We stayed here with our two kids (12 and 15) for over a week. The house was great, with lots of space, 3 separate full bathrooms, and a great view of the ocean and sunsets. The artwork of the owner that decorates the house is very nice, too. We really liked the affiliation with the Manua Kea hotels, and the beaches at both hotels are just beautiful. It's hard to over state just how nice these two beaches are, and they are both just minutes from the house. One of our highlights of the whole trip was the kids paddle boarding off the beach at Mauna Kea.The location is pretty far out from Kona, so we spent most of our time out at the resorts in the area (Mauna Kea/Hapuna, Mauna Lani, and Waikoloa). Everything you need is there, but it's pretty quiet. That was good for us, but people looking for a busier scene might want to be closer to Kona, because it's about a 30 minute drive away.We certainly recommend this house. The combination of a good sized house with plenty of space with access to the hotel amenities at Hapuna and Mauna Kea is really hard to beat.
A guest from Reno, NV recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in March, 2015 Hale Lani Napo'o--where to begin? This proved to be a perfect place for our family. We had an absolutely wonderful time. The home is ideally located for many (any?) of the island adventures and yet feels perfectly peaceful and quiet. The house is roomy and comfortable with all the amenities one might need. The well-stocked kitchen allowed us to comfortably prepare every meal we desired (of note, the kitchen gets quite warm when using the oven as it vents directly into the kitchen; a poor design but minor detail). The house is apportioned with a nice selection of fiction and non-fiction books and decorated with very neat photography that documents an earlier time in Hawaii. In the garage were 2 chairs and sand toys for visits to the beach. Sleeping arrangements were comfortable for 4 adults and 2 children; the children (7 and 5 yrs) slept on a trundle bed in a TV room that is not isolated from the main room but was more than adequate. It would have been nice to have a DVD player in that room; there was only one and it is in one of the bedrooms. A minor detail. The lanai and pool were a favorite and most convenient destination at all times of the day, even after dark. We took full advantage of the optional (paid-for) agreement the property has to have access to the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea resorts and were totally satisfied with having the access to amazing beaches for snorkeling, boogie boarding, body surfing, sand play, happy hour, fitness centers, and more all within a 5 minute drive!! Waikoloa and Mauna Lani resorts are an easy drive (10-15 minutes) for access to shopping, a great Foodland (ML), and restaurants. Hawaihea is even closer for shave ice and an amazing dinner at the Blue Dragon. Waimea and Hawi were also easy to get to from the house and well-worth a drive around a loop connecting the two. The views of the mountains and ocean are amazing and each sunset was not to be missed. . We will definitely be returning to stay at the Hale Lani Napo'o.
Ron M. from Poway, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in February, 2015 great set-up, cool artwork - almost like staying in a gallery, 270 degree views, quick walk/drive to the resorts, quiet and separated from neighbors, wish I was sitting in one of those lounge chairs in the picture now.
Pam A. from Lafayette, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2014 Our family was very happy with the vacation rental and would consider returning to the same house. The property was conveniently located to both the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea Hotels which we visited daily for use of the fitness centers and beaches. The property is well-maintained with both the gardener and pool service coming by to take care of the facilities. There were a couple items that needed checking at the property and we found the property management group to be very responsive even on a holiday.
A guest from Palo Alto, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in January, 2014 It's unfortunate that a lack of attention to detail on the owner's kept us from rating this property 5 stars on everything. The home was beautiful, the location excellent and the view fantastic. Furniture was fine. Property, grounds and pool were clean and immaculate. However, some everyday items (dishes, towels) need to be upgraded so instead of feeling we were in a luxury home, it had the feel of a vacation home equipped with leftovers. Very unfortunate.
Margaret C. from West Vancouver, BC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 13 days in December, 2013 We had a wonderful vacation, but were somewhat disappointed in this "luxury" 3 bedroom rental. I had clearly indicated that we required accomodation for 6 adults, and was advised this was a 3 bedroom home. However the 3rd bedroom was an alcove off the living room with no door so no privacy or furniture appropriate for storing clothes. The pool was not heated, and the hot tub not in working condition. We were advised not to use the air conditioning which made the nights uncomfortably hot. There were many items in the home not in good repair. The rental agent was not particularly attentive to our concerns, responding to concerns after one week.We have rented many times on Maui in the past, but have no experience on the Big Island, so don't have a fair comparison.
A guest from Atherton, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2013 Just stayed at a very good rental in the heights above Mauna Kea. Somewhat dated, but very well maintained and fabulous views. Too far to walk to the gorgeous beaches, however, but an easy drive. No access to the two car garage, which is a bummer as cars get super hot in the sun. Also, no modern entertainment system, e.g. large screen TV. Back yard pool needs some updating, too. All-in-all a very comfortable house, clean, and professional experience.
A guest from Green Oaks, IL recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in August, 2013 We loved our stay and would happily return to this property! Great location, beautiful views, huge pool... Mauna Kea amenities package gave us the best of both worlds. This is the way to do the big island!
A guest from Rosamond, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2013 We were very happy with the house, pool, spa, and grounds. The furnishings were top notch. In our week long stay the pool guy came twice and it was spotless. Watching the goregous sunsets from the back lanai was so relaxing. Then watching the stars from the hot tub was awesome. We grilled fresh fish several nights. Bring fresh salad supplies with you. Or there are two nice grocery stores in Waimea about 10 miles away. Costco is between airport and town. It has a fresh poke counter worth trying.
A guest from Newport, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in April, 2013 We enjoyed our stay at this very nice and well furnished home. Our only disappointment was the inability to close the sliding doors on the "3rd" bedroom. This made it a little difficult for our children to sleep at night.Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed the location and the use of the hotel amenities program. Some of the nicest beaches in Hawaii are in this area and were where we spent the majority of our time. There are excellent snorkeling sites on the edges of both Hapuna and Mona Kea Beaches. At night, it was nice to come back to a comfortable home where we grilled fresh fish and enjoyed the sunsets. The pool is an added bonus, particularly for the little ones, who can't seem to get enough water time.If you are looking for shave ice and or a fresh fish market, drive a few miles north to the town of Kawaihae.
Marilyn I. from West Vancouver, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 21 days in March, 2013 This property has so much space and privacy. Very clean and comfortable. The view is amazing. Having easy access to Mauna Kea and Hapuna beach is a bonus.
A guest from San Anselmo, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in July, 2012 My family and I had an amazing time at this beautiful home in Hawaii. The house had everything you need and more. The location is incredible and it was a bonus to sit in the hot tub each night with my kids and discuss the days events. I would give this house an A+ rating and we will definitely be back.
A guest from Saratoga, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in February, 2012 The main issue was that the listing said that the house had two king beds. When we arrived, the house had one king bed and one queen, plus the advertised trundle bed. We are all tall people and my son in law is very tall and no way would we have ever rented a property with a queen bed. When we called the rental agent, he was not going to do anything, till we showed him on his own web site that it said it had TWO KING BEDS. My daughter graciously said that she could sleep on a blow up bed, which the rental agent did bring out to the house. THe house is lovely and the view is wonderful. There are at least 3 things in the house that needed repair and the repair man came out but he couldn't fix any of them. Also, and I forgot to advise the rental agent when we left, the dishwasher does not clean the dishes. It goes on and goes through the cycle but the dishes were never clean. We did have a great time tho. The pool and the hot tub are wonderful. And the location is perfect. But we could not rent there again because of the bed sizes. I did see that the listing has been corrected.
Gerald V. from Kraainem, Belgium recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2011 This is from far the best accommodation we ever got in Hawaii. Grandma's Castle is ideally located, with great views and a quiet environment. The house is spacious, the bedding extremely comfortable, the bathrooms very nice and the quality of the appliance is very high. Our sole regret was to leave this paradise after only 6 days ; we would have enjoyed a much longer stay.
A guest from Park City, UT recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in June, 2011 We very much enjoyed our stay at Grandma's Castle! The view of the ocean was magnificent. We loved having the pool, and the house was extremely well located and very comfortable. We will be back!
