Resort: Small, historical city directly by the sea, 56 km south-west from Glasgow. All shops, restaurants etc. in the resort. Access: motorway M77 Glasgow. Then road A719 to Ayr. For arrivals by plane: airport Glasgow Prestwick (PIK) 6 km. Ayr lies in the very centre of the famous Firth of Clyde. A popular seaside resort since Victorian times, this old town has 3km of sandy beaches and impressive old buildings and churches dating back from the 12th century. Culzean Castle, located just south of Ayr, is one of Scotland's top tourist attractions. The beautiful Ayrshire countryside and the facing isle of Arran provided inspiration to Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns.
