A guest from Noblesville, Indiana recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in November, 2016 Perfect. The home and property are spacious, clean, private, beautifully decorated. The guest house is really nice if you're traveling with multiple families. The property managers, housekeeper, security guard, and personal chef were kind, professional, and treated us like family. We definitely recommend having a private chef fix your meals (it's cheaper and easier than eating out!) We would recommend this property x1000!
Matthew K. from Lasalle,, Ontario, does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2016 The pros,The property is very nice, spacious, and clean. The house is as advertised and the pictures are accurate. The staff at Akumal Properties were very good to work with and I will use them again. Lots of shade for kids, and a lot of outdoor seating. Finally, the best for last, Chef Manny was incredible. Food was top notch and their service was nothing but amazing. Thank You Manny for making our trip. The cons,The groundskeeper and his wife the house keeper were not very helpful. Had to consistently ask for towels, water, & basic necesities and they seemed very bothered when we asked them. The furniture in the house is not the best, a little worn and uncomfortable. Lastly, the pool is gross! Cloudy all week and had a little smell to it, the grounds keeper does not know how to maintain the pool. It was a little depressing looking at the house to both sides and seeing a crystal clean pool and then watching your kids play in a cloudy smelly pool. I would use Akumal Properties again, I just would not stay at this house.
Deborah H. from Lebanon, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2015 Wow !!! Enjoyed THE best family vacation ever !!! THANK YOU to Martina and Rhett and the Akumal Properties "team" !! This was our first time to the Mayan Riviera ... Absolute paradise ! Hubby and I took our 20-yr. old, 17-yr. old and 11-yr. old - we ALL had the "best vacation ever" ! All kids were sad to leave ... Soo much to do - we snorkeled and kayaked in beautiful waters with colorful fish and sealife, swam and snorkeled in a local Cenote (WOW !!), took advantage of our shaded hammocks for afternoon "siestas", enjoyed WONDERFUL local fare in Tulum (terrific homemade ice cream) and only a 3-minute scenic stroll for "to-die-for" gourmet dishes and pizzas at a local restaurant on our beach ! Property was superb and secure ... Beautiful view, tons of room, and helpful on-site caretaker available at all times. Martina went out of her way to make our family vacation happen ! Could not have been better !! Already planning our next get-away with Akumal Properties ! :)
John A. from Davenport, Iowa recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in December, 2014 Absolutely wonderful time. Jose and Marisol were great. We all had a wonderful time. Home is perfect along with the best view in the area. Loved having coffee and cocktails on the roof watching the sunrise and sunsets. Thank you for having a Christmas tree set up upon our arrival
Thomas S. from Steamboat Springs, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in March, 2012 Villa Orquidea is nothing short of marvelous. The property is magnificent, with finishes of the highest quality, and furnishings to match. No detail has been overlooked. Jose attended to our every need, despite the fact that his wife Marisol was staying with her mother in Akumal, in anticipation of the imminent birth of their second child. Jose and sister Anna prepared fabulous dinners and breakfasts. Don't miss the chiles rellenos, and the huevos rancheros. Jose's Mexican Flag after dinner drink is a must do! Colorful, flamboyant, fun, and tasty. We kayaked out to the reef every day, where the snorkeling was some of the best we've ever experienced. All manner of colorful tropical fish; even a sea turtle, langosta, and several nurse sharks. Large schools of small fish (chub?), 1,000 or more at a time. With pleasant security personnel unobtrusively keeping an eye on things at night, we always felt safe. We enjoyed pizza and Caribbean Fish at the Blue Sky, where Leo runs a great restaurant. Tankah Bay is a beautiful, quiet setting. No high rises or mega resorts. Perfect! Direct access into the water is difficult, and you'll want sturdy Tevas, Keens, or surf shoes for beach walking. The beach is not really a walking beach, though we did walk all the way down to Dreams. Day trips to Akumal Bay, the Tulum ruins, and the Tulum beaches provided some nice variety; and we were always happy to return to our haven on Tankah Bay. I would strongly recommend Villa Orquidea to anyone who is seeking a luxury, beach front vacation, with all the amenities of home.
Renee B. from Minneapolis, MN recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in February, 2012 Villa Orquidea is a perfect escape from the hussle & bussle of many popular vacation destinations -- a true hidden paradise! The villa is close enough to many exciting excursions, but also allows for total relaxation if that's what you need.
A guest from Chappaqua, NY recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in December, 2011 Wonderful caretakers.Wonderful caretakers again.Internet was a problem.Great new house designed very well.Very private.
A guest from Irving, TX recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2011 We had a great time. It went mostly very well. I would have rated it higher if the service had been more professional. However, being a remote beach area in Mexico, I should have adjusted my expectations accordingly. All in all, we enjoyed our vacation very much and the house was wonderful.
A guest from Fort Collins, CO recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2011 The family of twelve had a great time. The Casitas were also used. The house was well equipped to entertain the group. The location was great for water activites and adventures. We did a lot of the cooking and enjoyed shopping in Tulum and Aukmal.
A guest from Milwaukee, WI recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2010 this is a very beautiful and exceedingly comfortable new home that has every amenity . it is a total delight to stay in. the traveller should know it is down a bumpy gravel road(that runs along tankah bay (where other luxury homes are located). a reef surrounds the bay so entrance to water for swimming is not ideal but typical for Akumal and Soliman Bay. This location holds much interest for those who want to kayak, snorkel and dive or explore nearby ruins, adventure and eco-parks or sunbathe on the flawless beaches of tulum. I doubt there is a more wonderful home base from which to enjoy the many pleasures of the mayan riviera than villa orquidea!
Charles M. from Yulee, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in November, 2010 Please read these as areas the owner could improve - not criticisms (we did enjoy the tripa and the property:Hot water was only warm. asked Jose to turn up but little changeKitchen knives way too dull for any cookingDogs barked all night on several days. kept several in our party awakeComplementary meals and cooking services not clear. Jose does not understand or explain well. ( we missed the complementary meal )On a positive note the bedding, towels, cleanliness were all excellent.
James K. from Bath, UK recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2009 Fantastic house in a wonderful location with (almost) everything you could possibly need provided. The only things missing were a dishwasher and snorkeling equipment which is a must to enjoy the undersea life in the bay and on the reef near the house. The house was not ready when we arrived (some confusion over dates), but the on-site staff quickly remedied that situation. Occasional problems (wi-fi and safe combination setting) were quickly resolved. Expect the occasional power outage - normal for the region. Close to wonderful beaches at Tulum and in Sian Ka'an Biosphere. Overall, very highly recommended.
