Beach Babes getaway week Monica J. from Tryon, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2013 A new house for this group, but as soon as we arrived we realized it was home away from home! We loved the screened porch with the rockers; loved the deck for our morning coffee, plenty of chairs for everyone, and loved everything about it. The living room is spacious. There's a large dining table in the kitchen area, plus a puzzle table in the living room. Bathrooms are newly refurbished, and have little touches like bath mats and new shower curtains. The kitchen is well stocked with great cookware. We had a chef with us, who was very pleased! And a kettle for tea drinkers too (first one I've ever seen in a rental for some reason...).The downstairs/under the house open area has a shower at the base of the stairs for removing sand and another outdoor shower (although not fully enclosed so we didn't use it as a real shower in case we shocked the neighbors)and a sink and table for cleaning fish/oysters/whatever, plus another seating area. New walkway to the dune. Washing machine room too. we didn't use the downstairs bedroom and bathroom, so can't comment on that, but we peeked in and it looked comfortable, although a little dark and stuffy. The dune is wide and flat, the beach gorgeous, and the waves milder on this stretch. We decided we liked this end of Edisto the best - you can walk to the point and see tons of wildlife. All in all, a great beach house, wonderful week. Property Manager Response: Response from Atwood Vacations Monica,It was nothing short of a pleasure to be your host. We really appreciate your stellar feedback. The home owners actively updated this home during the spring. You were the first to enjoy all the new changes. Seeing you and your group every May is a true delight. We look forward to seeing you again next year for your getaway babe weekend!Regards,Atwood Vacations Team |

A Perfect Edisto Retreat! Karen T. from Port Royal, SC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2013 A group of ladies had a wonderful experience at Ballentine. Wonderful winter views of sea oats and sunset James H. from Aiken, SC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in November, 2012 The house is a traditional beach home, warm and friendly, open in the center with 4 bedrooms off the corners. Annual Guy's Fishing Trip A guest from Huntersville, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2012 We have stayed at this property twice for our annual fishing trip and find the location perfect. House and furnishings are dated but since we are on the beach most of the time, it does not really matter. The ground floor bedroom does have a musty odor even after running the hotel style A/C for a few hours. Property Manager Response: Response from Atwood Vacations Michael,Thank you for your review of your stay at Ballentine. Thank you for your feedback. We will look into a way to make sure the downstairs bedroom stays smelling fresh. We are always looking for ways to improve our rental homes. Thank you for staying with us year to year. We look forward to seeing you again for a great fishing trip.Regards, Atwood Vacations Team |

Awesome week at Edisto Brenda W. from Augusta, GA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2012 Great Vacation. Awesome location. Sit on the back screen porch in the rocking chair or a lounge chair on the sunporch to enjoy the best view in Edisto. Step off the porch to walk down a very short path to the beach. House has great layout and amenities but does need a little TLC. Folks at Atwood were terrific. |

Ballentine Cottage Ann F. from aiken, SC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 We loved the location and the overall layout of the cabin was fine. However, there are some significant maintenance issues with the house. We had some trouble with one toilet. More distressing was the overall rundown appearance of the cabin. The screen on the porch was torn in several places. The porch floor needed repair. The ceiling in the main room needs to be redone. The air vents appeared to have mold or mildew around them--maybe it was just dirt. The kitchen needs updating though it was servicable. The furnishings were fine. Several of the exterior doors were difficult to open/ close or lock. The downstairs apartment smelled very stale. My son-in-law, a professional in construction, said there were several issues he noticed with the sewer venting and the support structure for the deck and porch. It is a potentially lovely property in a fabulous location. We would like to return but only if considerable maintenance is done. |

The kitchen needs to be updated. The most glaring problem is the lack of cooking utensils and the refrigerator is small consider John W. from Mt. Pleasant, SC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in July, 2011 |

Nice oceanfront location; House in need of some updates for the price A guest from Charlotte, NC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in September, 2010 We stayed here as a last minute getaway for the Labor Day weekend. The layout of the house is nice for 2 families or groups - as there are 2 beds and 1 bath on each side of the main living area, plus a 5th bed/bath on the lower floor that has it's own AC unit. The main living area is very open and a nice layout with beautiful views of the ocean. While I have stayed at a range of homes from very budget minded to complete luxury, I knew what to expect by the photos and knew it would be more of a rustic beach cottage. However, there are things that need fixed for the price we ended up paying per night around $265/night (due to a less than one week stay) plus all of the fees. The refrigerator was warm at best, even beyond the four hour initial cooling period. Much of the food we brought along, we did throw away due to safety concerns and not wanting to 'chance' it with young kids. We did place a call to the maintenance line at 6 PM on the evening of our arrival to discuss our concern and were told someone would call us back. No one ever did. The DVD/VHS player didn't work. The wall paper in the bathroom is falling off and a staple gun was used in various spots tor reattach it. General kitchen utensils were missing - a regular, easy to use spatula for eggs/pancakes, a basic spoon to cook ground turkey/beef. The grill cover is dangerous at best and doesn't sit flush on the grill - so beware when using it - especially if you have kids like we do and it falls off (while very hot) and rolls on the ground toward our child. There is siding missing, screens not attached in the screened in porch (sort of defeats the purpose of keeping out bugs) and just general maintenance that was lacking. I'm sure it was cleaned before we got there and I'm not a clean freak, but I think the place is so old that it just wouldn't look clean no matter how much the cleaners spent time on it. The owners of this home have a lovely, memory filled property I'm sure - but ple |

Stay at Ballentine A guest from Asheville, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2010 The overall stay at the Ballentine house was good. The house was comfortable and the layout was great and the view was spectacular. The porches were awesome and the outside showers were great for rinsing off after time on the sand. There are some updates that really need to happen here though. The wallpaper was literally "hanging" off the walls in the bathrooms. The bathrooms had rust in them, no soap holder in the shower, rot on the window ledge and overall felt a little unsanitary. The flat screen t.v. was very nice, but it was basically the only t.v. There was a very small 13" t.v. in one of the bedrooms, but would have been nice to have a better secondary. The kitchen had everything you needed, although there were not enough drinking glasses for everyone in the house. The house does not have a water filtration system, so you must buy your drinking water or bring containers to fill at the town hall. Also, a dryer would be a nice addition for the wet beach towels since linens aren't provided. Overall I would stay here again, its location on the beach and the view are worth it. Property Manager Response: Response from Atwood Vacations Dear Jennifer,Thank you for your review. We appreciate your time in providing us this feedback. We will pas your review along to the owner as it is very important to all of us. We strive to give all of our guests a wonderful vacation experience and hope that you enjoyed your stay. We invite you back to the beach anytime.Kindest Regards,KellyAtwood Vacations |

Home away from home - Ballentine the classic beach home. A guest from Chehalis, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 14 days in July, 2009 We have stayed at the Ballentine house a number of times. It may not be the most modern on the beach but it has that comfortable beach house feel. It is an older home but that is to the good as it has those little extra's that are useful at the beach but no where else. A fish cleaning table and plenty of outdoor water showers and taps for cleaning the catch. Also a number of hooks to sling a hammock or two (the hammocks aren't there any more unfortunately). It has the screened in porch on the ocean side for listening to the ocean and being outside even if the sun is pouring down or the bugs are about. We always shift a table outside for eating. It may be an older house but it doesn't smell damp (except in the basement bedroom). The beach is good, sandy and wide, the water not as rough as the point or as crowded as closer to 'The Pig". You can sit and watch the sun set into the water. The bicycle path is a block away and you can meander through the development. Fresh shrimp and fish is a five minute drive to the Marina. The house is comfortable but not pretentious - a family can relax here. We have always thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will come back again. |
