Stayed for 7 days in August, 2012 We have stayed at the Ford House for 5-6 years now because of the location and the number of people it sleeps. Only downsides are the tired furnishings. The couch is ripping apart and it's throw pillows are stinky. The fridge is in bad repair. Has to be on highest setting to stay cold and then drips all over inside so the food gets wet. Also concerned about outlets that are coming out of the wall. For the price, seems these should be addressed.We do love the space and the place. |

Ford House, Nice Location - Needs a Couch! A guest from Kirkland, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in August, 2012 We would stay here again, however, the property needs some love. The lack of a TV in the living room was a disappointment, especially with the Olympics on TV. The living room couch is a horrible, broken down, filthy mess that makes you want to take a shower after sitting on it. Listed as a 4 bdrm, but the 4th bdrm is really a TV room downstairs with a futon in it. The big plus for this house is its location, while not on the beach, it is a very close walk, just two doors down from the beach. Can view the ocean from the deck. I wish the owners would invest a few bucks to upgrade a few things that have been pointed out over the years in these reviews. Sunset Vacation Rentals was a pleasure to work with, prompt, and accommodating. We will use them again! |

Sunset Vacation Rentals handled everything wonderfully A guest from Stockten, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2012 When we stayed at the Ford House for 3 nights last week we were very disappointed. We LOVED the location, but had a bad experience otherwise. We got there on a Sunday & on Tuesday night we noticed that our son was covered in flea bites, then we picked a black thing off our sons face & it hopped off my finger (flea), then I was scratching my head and when I pulled my hand back there was a dark thing under my nail & the it hopped out from under my nail (flea), then some saw fleas on their bed jumping, then one of the kids dropped something under the couch and when they tipped the couch back to get it there was a thick layer of pet hair (explained our severe allergies). Between all of us we counted close to 100 flea bites. Plus the sofa in the living room had two different places where there were pointy spring sticking out dangerously. However, Sunset Vacation Rentals was AWESOME!!! They moved us to a different house immediately & even though it was farther from the beach, it was an extremely nice house! Head hurt, nose,eyes stuffy and lots of snizzing. Dirty dishes, had to wash before use. Dangerous spring on couch sticking out. Cat and Dog hair on blankets and couch. It was nice that it was closer to the beach but if you can't get a good night sleep the beach vacation is dimmed. |

Ford House Lisa L. from Milwaukie, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2011 We rent this house for a week every year because it accommodates our big family and dog. We appreciate the little updates done, a bedroom was painted, and some TV's were added. It's a great house, very relaxing, we love it! The only thing that seemed odd was all of the extra furniture crammed into some of the rooms. And for comfort, the master bed is terrible. We had to haul our foam from home to be able to sleep. The couches are funky and getting uncomfortable in the living room and the basement TV room. We rated the staff as mid-range because we really had no contact with them except the initial phone call to reserve the place. Not bad, just not at all personal. Thanks again for a great week at the beach, we love coming to the Ford house!!! |

Stayed for 5 days in June, 2011 June of 2011 was our second stay at the Ford House. We had stayed there together with another family many years ago. It was VERY dog friendly, but I didn't notice a strong dog odor. We had a beautiful view of the beach from both inside the house and on the deck.The living room furniture has definitely seen better days. The main TV and DVD player is down stairs, and since the view upstairs was so beautiful we watched hardly any TV. So we were able to spend more family time playing games. We were steps from the beach, and about a 15-20 minute walk along the beach to get to town. |

Great location but Uncomfortable Furnishings Kathy L. from Lake Oswego, OR does not recommend this property. Stayed for 5 days in August, 2010 My family has rented from Sunset for several years and overall we have been satisfied with the different rental properties we have stayed in. Although the Ford House is in a good location (easy access to the beach, has a view of the ocean) it unfortunately has very a uncomfortable sectional couch and chairs. All family members had back aches upon leaving the place. If a property is going to be rented, it should have comfortable seating, otherwise it should not be rented. We paid top dollar for the rental and expect to not have our backs hurt. There was also inadequate blankets for the beds (barely enough blankets and what was avaialbe were too small for the beds, and most were old and raggedy. (Two were frayed electric blankets.) So even though we thought the location and overall appearance of the house were good, we would not rent this place again unless we were assured that the uncomfortable furniture had been replaced with somehting more comfortable. Love the location away from the town but close enough to get there by bike or a walk on the beach. Great deck with ocean view. Can't beat 3rd house from the beach. Only complaints are the master bed which was changed last year. We find it impossible to sleep on which makes one bedroom unusable for us. Also, the fridge went out a day before our check out and so we had to toss out lots of food. We love Manzanita, and enjoy this house. |

House, furniture in need of replacement/repair A guest from Spokane, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in July, 2010 Not up to usual standards, but we booked late. Others we have rented from Sunset have been impeccable. The furniture was uncomfortable,placed away from the view. The faucets needed work, holes in the family room wall from the door knob. 2 handclothes, few hand towels. But we were given brand new ones from Sunset.The TV was very difficult to figure out, remote didn't work properly. The Sunset Rental people are great, this house should be fixed before renting again. The stove top's main burner was not functioning. The tap water was undrinkable. Also, the absence of small amenities made an unfavorable impression. Purchase items such as study plastic hangers to replace the old bent metal hangers in the closet, and basics like sugar, salt, and paper towels for the kitchen. I purchased supplies myself for the kitchen and left them for the next guest. The home was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We have rented many homes in Manzanita over the years and have enjoyed them all. Thanks so much. Great location, but the house was very "tired". The furniture was old and knocked about. The refrigerator door would not stay Kay H. from Vancouver, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2009 and it seemed a little better, then kept opening again. This definitely needs to be fixed. TV, VCR etc poor quality, could not work the radio/CD player upstairs. Kids watched DVD's downstairs, but adults had no TV/Radio or music upstairs. We all loved the location. Walked to the park and played tennis, etc. Walked into town. We love Manzanita. House too run down for the cost. |

The Ford House A guest from Phoenix, AZ does not recommend this property. Stayed for 14 days in June, 2009 This is the third time I've stayed at the Ford house. The first time I paid $75 a night, there was a beautiful ocean view and all was in beautiful shape. This time the house just seemed tired. The springs of the couches are sprung, there is dirt in the corners, the deck floor is rotten, the master bedroom smelled of urine and had to be shampooed. Several stains (throughout the house) did not come out of the carpet even with the shampooing. The paint is worn and rubbed in many spots. I think some of the bottles in the garage were the same ones there 12 years ago. For $250 a night I guess we expected it to be terrific, not tired. The location is still wonderful, even though the view from inside is gone. And the Sunset people were great at responding to problems like carpet cleaning and providing washcloths and sheets for the king-sized bed. We had to buy a potato peeler, and could have used more kitchen towels and cloths, the kitchen sink was missing a basket and the garbage disposal plan was not adequate. I will look for another property for my next visit. |
